Another article on Julian Jeanvier......... Gathering speed?

http://www.fulhamweb.co.uk/news/fulham-transfer-link-~-julian-jeanvier.aspx

Fulham are looking to strengthen their defence ahead of next season with the capture of Reims defender Julian Jeanvier but face stiff competition from Huddersfield.

The recently promoted Premier League side look to be leading the race for the 25-year-old's signature who only joined Reims last summer, but Fulham are hopeful of adding him to their squad as they look to follow in Huddersfield's footsteps and gain promotion this time around.

Slavisa Jokanovic's side have enquired about the player's availability with Jeanvier thought to relish the opportunity at playing in a higher division than the French second tier, a division he was voted best defender in.

Jeanvier has one year left on his current deal at the French club and cost them £425k last summer when he signed from Lille and can play at either centre or left back.

Jeanvier has had loan spells at Mouscron and Red Star

Transfer gossip: Whites want Arfield, Sun say

Fulham want Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield, The Sun say.

The Sun reports that West Brom have targeted the Canada international and that he is also wanted by the Whites and Hull.

Arfield has a year remaining on his contract at Burnley, whose manager Sean Dyche would apparently be reluctant to let him leave.

Brighton linked with McDonald

Brighton want Fulham midfielder Kevin McDonald, The Sun have also claimed.

The Sun say a move to the promoted Seagulls would appeal to the 28-year-old, who has three years remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage.

It is claimed that Brighton are ready to table a £2m bid for him and that he is also wanted by Glasgow Rangers.

McDonald would also see a transfer to Ibrox as a good move, The Sun say, because he wants to get back into the Scotland squad.

Sessegnon speculation

Manchester United are keen to snap up Ryan Sessegnon and Liverpool are still in the race to sign him, according to the Daily Telegraph.

It comes after the Daily Mirror reported that United and battling with Tottenham for the Fulham youngster and that Liverpool had ended their interest.

The Telegraph say United boss Jose Mourinho wants to take Sessegnon to Old Trafford, that there is no sign of any interested clubs withdrawing their interest, and that the player is open-minded about the possibility of staying at Fulham.

The Liverpool Echo reported earlier this that Liverpool have ended their interest in Sessegnon and believe he will join Tottenham.

Spurs have long been interested in the 17-year-old, who has yet to sign a professional contract at Craven Cottage.

Arsenal have shown an interest as well, while the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Everton have also been linked with Sessegnon.

The Echo believe Liverpool doubted Sessegnon's commitment to joining them amid reports Spurs are close to agreeing a deal to sign him.

Whites want Fletcher, Mirror say

Fulham are among clubs interested in West Ham youngster Ashley Fletcher, again according to the Mirror.

The Mirror say Huddersfield are keen to sign Fletcher, 21, on a season-long loan following the Yorkshire club's promotion to the top flight.

The newspaper say Fulham, Middlesbrough and Norwich are also looking to bring in the forward for next season.

Cairney's future

Newcastle continue to be linked with Fulham playmaker Tom Cairney.

The Daily Telegraph say the promoted Magpies are set to make an approach following the Whites' play-off defeat against Reading.

They were linked with Cairney during the January transfer window and are apparently undeterred by reports Fulham want £20m for the 26-year-old.

The Telegraph suggest Newcastle are likely to offer £12m and that Cairney may well be keen to make the move now Fulham's hopes of a return to the Premier League have been ended.

The Northern Echo believe Newcastle will make an approach for Cairney and that there is also interest from West Ham and Southampton.

Fulham to make move for John Ruddy as their No1.

Hopefully not.
Personally would not mind John Ruddy, very solid keeper in the prem, better at championship level and recent England international in the last year, not that that counts for much these days but all the same means he isnt a bad keeper

Premier League midfielder wanted by Fulham, Hull and West Brom this summer

According to a report by The Sun, Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield is attracting attention from a trio of English clubs this summer.

Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion want to poach Arfield from Burnley but they will be rivalled for his signature by two Championship sides.

Fulham, who recently missed out on promotion via the play-offs after losing in the semi-final to Reading, have identified Scott Arfield as a top summer target.

Hull City – who were recently relegated from the Premier League – also want the versatile Burnley man, who can play anywhere across the midfield.

Both Championship teams harbour ambitions of winning promotion next season and the 28-year-old has experience of doing just that.

The Canadian international has twice won promotion to the Premier League with Burnley whilst also winning the League One play-off final with Huddersfield Town in 2012.

With just one year left on his current deal with Burnley, these three sides are lining up a swoop with a reported fee of £2.5m likely to be enough to land their man.

It is unlikely that Sean Dyche will be willing to part with his regular first team member but the security of a longer contract might convince Arfield to leave Turf Moor and pursue his career elsewhere.

Tony Pulis is a big fan but Arfield would be promised more playing time at one of the two interested Championship clubs.

Jokanovic talks about Cairney's future

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic has made it clear that Newcastle will not sign Tom Cairney after the London club were offered £20million for his services.

The Championship boss confirmed that the recently promoted Premier League side have submitted a bid for the 26-year-old goal and assist machine.

Scotland international Cairney helped Fulham secure a top-six spot during the recently concluded season, scoring 12 goals and supplying 11 assists from his 45 matches.

Jokanovic's side were eventually beaten in the play-off semi-finals by Jaap Stam's Reading, who suffered their own heartache against Huddersfield in the final.

Nonetheless, the Serbian boss issued a firm response to Newcastle following their big-money offer for his highly-rated playmaker.

"Yes, he's good. He (Benitez) asked for him and they offered £20million, but we did not let him go," Jokanovic revealed, as quoted by the Chronicle.

"He is not for Newcastle, there is no business there, he fits in at Fulham. When the team has problems the ball always goes to him and he keeps it."

Fulham did the double over Newcastle during the 2016/17 Championship season, with Cairney scoring or assisting in both fixtures for his side.

Over the course of the campaign, Cairney played 51 matches in all competitions for his free-scoring side, finding the back of the net on 13 occasions added with his 12 assists.

Rafa Benitez' team won the Championship title on the last day of the season and they are now on their way back to playing Premier League football for next term.

The last time Cairney played top-flight football was with Hull City during the 2009/10 campaign, where he made 11 appearances, scoring one goal.

Report: Huddersfield to beat Fulham to their first summer signing

Huddersfield move closer to signing Reims defender and former Fulham target Julian Jeanvier.

Huddersfield Town are on the verge of completing their first summer signing after securing promotion to the Premier League.

According to the Daily Mail, the Terriers are close to signing centre-back Julian Jeanvier from Ligue 2 side Stade Reims as they prepare for life in the top flight.

Jeanvier, who was named the best defender in France's second tier in 2016/17, has also attracted interest from Fulham but would be understandably more keen to play at a higher level.

The 25-year-old joined Reims from Lille in a £425,000 deal in the summer of 2016, but only signed a two-year deal upon in his arrival giving Huddersfield more bargaining power in any potential deal.

Jeanvier has the ability to play as both a left-back and a central defender, and David Wagner views the Frenchman as the ideal recruit to bolster his options at the back.

The former Nancy youth player made 30 appearances in all competitions for Reims last term, scoring three goals, but has played the majority of his career in Ligue 2 and has limited top flight experience.

@jolslover

French TV reporting we have bid 10mill for defensive midfielder Ole Selnaes of St Etienne.
Think we were linked last summer. I really rate him. Very good passer off the ball and dictates games. Reminds me of Busquets.

Not sure we should be spending 10mill on a defensive midfielder however.

Strange if we try to sign him for the same sum as they declined 1 year ago? Sure this is not old News?

elnes does not go to Championship to sit on the bench. He has played very well in the French league and in the European league. He is also central to the Norwegian national team.

However, think this is an old recycled news story. Fulham offered 10 million pounds in August 2016.

I work for a major norwegian company and a lot of the norwegians base dhere say he is ok at what he does, nothing special but very solid and dependable

Would not start him ahead of Bettinelli so why sign him unless Button moves on and we want a backup?

I owuld start him ahead of Betts, better command of his area, Better with the ball at his feet and a avery good shot stopper. Betts is a very good shot stopper, his command has got better but with his feet he is not good. Love Betts but Ruddy, if true, would be an upgrade just my opinion.

Have to remember SJ had enough doubnts to sign a keeper last summer to replace betts as the number 1, and Betts only got back in as Button had a nightmare against Derby. I would be surprised if Betts starts next season as the number one, just a felelng that I have

Wouldn't start him ahead of Bettinelli?!? What, an experienced 30 year old keeper, with both Premiership and Championship experience, add to that promotion, and an all round better commander and distributor of the ball.

Madness..

Agree we're surely not going to spend £10m on backup to KMac.

Worth noting however that KMac is nearly 30 and let's be honest, as good as he has been this year, his talent has a ceiling and I can't see him rising to the standard required in the premiership if we go up.

This Norwegian is young and has much more potential. If the reports of Brighton or others wanting KMac are true and we can get £5m+ for him and replace him with this guy at something like £7-8m that would sound like a good bit of business IMO
Agree it would be good business. My only caveat is he knows what it take sin this division and is ready and able to take that. PLayers coming from abroad sometimes take a long time to adjust, but in SJ we trust

Hull City to rival Fulham for Chelsea man Tomas Kalas as Leonid Slutsky looks for first signing

Fulham remain hopeful he will sign for them but recently relegated Hull have reportedly made him one of their top targets

Hull City's new manager Leonid Slutksy is aiming to make Tomas Kalas his first signing, according to reports.

The 24-year-old has a fantastic season at Fulham last year as he featured on loan from Chelsea, making 36 appearances as Fulham lost out to Reading in the Play-off semi finals.

Slavisa Jokanovic is a big fan of the defender and wants to bring him back to Craven Cottage ahead of next season as he looks to strengthen his defence to mount a title challenge, while Kalas himself said in the season that staying at the club would be "the perfect scenario."

But the Evening Standard have reported that new manager Slutsky is a close friend of Roman Abramovich and would like to make the Czech his first signing, although Fulham remain hopeful he will sign for them.

The defender only has one year on his contract at Stamford bridge and the club look set to offload him this summer.

While I'd agree that this is most likely recycled news (lazy journos and all around transfer season), it isn't necessarily problematic reporting. We supposedly offered 10 million last season which was rejected. If we valued him at 10 million last season and they rejected it as too little, it's still possible that we rate him highly enough to pay the 10 and that they might accept since he's 1 season closer to leaving on a free.

Doesn't come across as something Fulham would do normally but, we are in the age of statistical analysis. We've not seen the club make a big signing yet under the TK regime. Difficult to know how they'd proceed.

I'd love for us to continue adding higher quality, younger players but, I'm not getting my hopes up.
