If they do say that, Chelsea don't let them leave on Loan this season- which drastically reduces their chances of playing for a whole season.

If Kalas says "I am leaving for free next summer", Chelsea will probably try to sell him this summer to the higher bidder rather than lose him for free next year.
On the other hand, the contract that Chelsea can offer him for the next three years might be more rewarding than the one we could offer, even if that means he will spend the next 3 years on loan with different teams.
