Chelsea's replacement for Asmir Begovic may be nearby in Fulham's Marcus Bettinelli

Chelsea may not need to look far or long to replace Asmir Begovic as their backup goalkeeper. Marcus Bettinelli may move down the road from Fulham in search of his Premier League debut.

Chelsea have several transfer situations to negotiate that will consume large amounts of time and money. If they can resolve some of the lighter situations quickly and easily, so much the better.

The Blues made good on their promise to transfer Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth earlier this week. The search for his replacement may be over just as smoothly. The Daily Mail reports that Chelsea are considering Marcus Bettinelli from Fulham to be Thibaut Courtois' backup.

Bettinelli has many of the characteristics of someone who would be willing to accept a transfer, knowing that they would have few opportunities to play. He signed with Fulham in 2012, when the Cottagers were still in the Premier League. Fulham loaned him to Dartford of the National League (the Vanarama National League, for those keeping track at home) for his first year. He was "promoted" to a loan to League Two's Accrington Stanley the following season.

He grew big and strong drinking plenty of milk at Accrington Stanley, earning him a starting spot with Fulham in 2014/15. Unfortunately, this was Fulham's first year back in the Championship.

He made 37 appearances that season. His playing time constricted greatly in the following two seasons. He made 11 and eight appearances in 2015/16 and 2016/17 after getting displaced by Andy Lonergan and David Button, respectively.

Bettinelli allowed one goal in each of his eight league games this season to go 5W-2D-1L. In his three FA Cup appearances he conceded one goal in each of his first two games before shipping three to Tottenham.

Asmir Begovic played eight games for Chelsea this season. Unless Marcus Bettinelli thinks he can overcome David Button as Fulham's top keeper, he can expect another single-digit season with the Cottagers.

The prospect of more money for a similar number of appearances – and having those appearances be on a better club that will likely go further into domestic cup tournaments – should be enough to convince Bettinelli to take an offer from Chelsea. Not to mention the winners' medals.

Backup keepers are an unusual bunch. Moments of total responsibility punctuate long periods of nothingness, and yet they must maintain absolute match-readiness. Marcus Bettinelli has experience as a starter in the lower tiers and as a backup in the Championship. Being a backup in the Premier League may not be anyone's childhood dream, but it could be a top opportunity for Bettinelli.

Keeping Tom Cairney and signing a striker... the transfer business Fulham will look to complete this summer

Fulham's prospects in the transfer market?

Can they can keep together the team that missed out on promotion in the play-offs? Tom Cairney is arguably the best player outside the Premier League and is wanted by Newcastle.

Ryan Sessegnon looks set to leave. The left-back has yet to sign a professional contract since turning 17 earlier this month and Tottenham are interested.

Slavisa Jokanovic wants the club to show ambition but the well-regarded manager has himself been considered by Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Middlesbrough at the start of an important summer for Fulham.

What would improve the team?

A striker to lead their promotion bid next season is the priority but some experience to go alongside a talented young squad would also help.

Pre-season plans?

The club have yet to announce their fixtures.

Is Ryan Sessegnon ready for the Premier League?

He's made quite the impression in the Championship this season, but is the youngster ready for the step up?

Every so often, a young star in the lower leagues comes along whom everyone makes a fuss over. This time it's Ryan Sessegnon, however he is even younger than most. Only turning 17 last month, Sessegnon played large parts of the season as a 16-year-old, becoming the youngest player to play in the Championship, and then the youngest goalscorer.

The next Gareth Bale?
He is predominantly a left back, however has been used effectively as a left midfielder/winger for much of the season and that is where he will end up according to many due to his attacking skills, subsequently drawing a lot of comparisons with Gareth Bale in this regard as well.

Matching the career of the Welshman isn't out of the question either. Arguably, Sessegnon is an even more accomplished footballer than Bale was at the same age. He is very mature for someone so, so young and reads the game superbly. He can explode past people with ease, much like Bale could and has an eye for goal, scoring a very impressive seven times, making a further five assists this season. The performances and numbers Sessgnon has put out at such a young age is almost unheard of.

The Premier League beckons
However, is it a step too soon to be playing in the big time? Sessegnon can still be inconsistent with his end product and can make the wrong decision from time to time. These aren't criticisms, though, and are completely natural for a football as young and inexperienced as Sessegnon.

However, it his maturity that makes you feel he can cut it in the Premier League. He is a very special talent and hasn't looked overawed at any point during this breakout season, also scoring against relegated Premier League side Hull City in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup.

Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked, but there are strong rumours of a move to Tottenham Hotspur. Mauricio Pochettino has a fantastic record of developing young English talent since moving to this country, especially attacking full backs which Sessegnon is.

Should Sessegnon decide to make the leap up to the Premier League this summer don't expect him to just be a bit part player. Expect him to take the league by storm.

Go For It Jokanovic – Here Are 3 Signings That Could Massively Improve Fulham In Their Promotion Bid Next Season

Three Signings That Would Improve Fulham Next Season

Fulham's disappointment at not making the play-off final this year was palpable, and as for the fans it was doubly disappointing as it seems they will have to build on the squad without stars Ryan Sessegnon and Tom Cairney.

Given that they will most likely be losing a wide man and an attacking midfielder, they will surely look at these areas when heading into the transfer market but I'm sure a defender is on the shopping list too. Here are three players they will do well to get hold of:

Tom Lawrence (Ipswich Town)

The man from Wrexham managed 9 goals and 9 assists from 34 Championship appearances this season, contributing to a goal once every 156 minutes which, for a player playing in the lower reaches of the league, is an excellent record. His pass completion rate of 71% is perfectly acceptable and he may prove to be as good a replacement for Tom Cairney as is realistic for the club to get.

Yoan Gouffran (Newcastle)

The former Bordeaux winger is due to leave Newcastle this summer but has had a very solid year for the champions and still has more to give. Gouffran never seems to be on top of any particular charts, but chipped in with 5 goals, 3 assists, and a pass completion rate of nearly 80% in the Championship during the season.

Gouffran is a bit of a man for all seasons and for those wishing to make a big promotion push over the next year, really should be thinking carefully about a bid for the Frenchman.

Harlee Dean (Brentford)

Signing Dean would be to the annoyance of near neighbours Brentford, but he is just what Fulham need right now.  The centre-half has improved so much in recent seasons and has played a key role at the heart of their defence.

Dean would most likely be available at a fair price too, with Brentford having always shown willingness to do business if there is a solid bid on the table. The big defender has spent 6 seasons at Griffin Park now and may feel he is stagnating a little; the sale of Scott Hogan another unfortunate reminder that Brentford aren't a club looking to build significantly towards a promotion push.

Fulham are a club with serious top level ambition and can give Dean the chance he feels he deserves to play big league football.

Chelsea tab Fulham goalkeeper as homegrown replacement for Asmir Begović — report

True to our promise in January, Chelsea have allowed backup goalkeeper Asmir Begović to join AFC Bournemouth after the end of the season, getting a good amount of money with a £2m net profit in return, even. Stacks of cash don't quite make for a good backup goalkeeper however, so now the Blues are once again exploring the market for someone to play second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois. According to the Daily Mail, we're not looking very far just yet, identifying Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli as a homegrown option.

The 25-year-old joined Fulham as a youth player in 2011, graduating to professional football only a year later with a loan to Dartford. Since 2014 he has been a regular at Craven Cottage, though a starter only that first season. He's spent the last two seasons backing up Andy Lonergan and then David Button. Bettinelli did start the last six games of the season as well as both legs of the playoff semifinals as Button's struggles were jeopardizing Fulham's promotion chances. Were he to leverage that run into a starting job next season, it would be hard to see why he'd want to join Chelsea instead.

Money does of course speak volumes. Begović was much more established when he joined two years ago, for example. Incidentally, Bettinelli was also rumored before the older man signed with Mourinho's champions. As in 2015, the best thing about Bettinelli would be that he's homegrown and would thus not take up one of the 17 allotted non-homegrown spots in the squad. The Mail do not put a price on the potential transfer, but Bettinelli does have two more years left on his Fulham contract.

Tottenham Hotspur Or Manchester United? Which Should Be The Ideal Destination For This English Sensation

Ryan Sessegnon, the young left-back, currently playing for the Championship club Fulham, has been in the headlines for quite some time now for all the right reasons. The wonder kid, who turned 17 this month, has attracted the interests of some of the biggest clubs in the Premier League with his dazzling display of footwork down the left-hand side for his current club and is considered to be the next big thing in English football.

The versatile youngster is known for his darting runs down the pitch into the attacking third, with his mesmerising dribbling skills bamboozling the opposition defence. He can also play as a left winger and has great pace and prowess to become one of the best left-footed players for his country in the near future.

He is a regular in the under 19 team of England and is looking to make a mark in the Premier League by moving to any of the big name clubs, including the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The teenager, however, is still in contention for a contract renewal to stay back at Craven Cottage, as speculations are rife that he might leave Fulham, who were knocked out of the Playoffs by eventual runners-up's Reading, at the end of his current contract with them.

Ryan Sessegnon to snub Man Utd and Liverpool this summer - report

RYAN SESSEGNON is reportedly set to stay at Fulham this summer.

The Championship star, 17, had a solid season in west London last time out.

The left-back made 30 appearances for Fulham, netting seven goals and chipping in with three assists.

Sessegnon has attracted a lot of interest from Premier League clubs, who would be able to sign him for a £2m compensation fee.

However, the Daily Telegraph say the youngster sees his future at Fulham.

They claim United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are all keen on Sessegnon.

He is aware of their interest but he's open minded about staying at Craven Cottage.

The Telegraph add that Jose Mourinho's son - Jose junior - was previously at Fulham's academy and rates Sessegnon.

Fulham had an impressive season this year but fell short in the play-offs.

Sessegnon and co. lost to Reading before Huddersfield beat Jaap Stam's men at Wembley last week.
