Jacobson & O'Nien preview cup clash with Fulham

Goalscorers on Saturday, Luke O'Nien and Joe Jacobson are hoping Wanderers can end their Carabao Cup curse tonight vs Fulham at Adams Park (k.o. 7.45pm).

Wycombe have not progressed to the second round of the League Cup since 2011, when the Blues defeated Colchester United on penalties.

Having run Fulham close in the same stage of the compeition two years ago in a narrow 1-0 defeat, O'Nien is hoping the Chairboys can come out on top this time around.

"I remember watching the game when we last played Fulham here in the cup and we played really well and we did again last year against Bristol City," he said.

"Our record might not be very good in the cup over the last few years but we could have very easily come away with something from both of those games.

"So the results in the cup haven't been coming, but we'll look to put that right on Tuesday."

After putting in a man of the match display in the league opener against a physical Lincoln City side with one goal and one assist, Jacobson is expecting a different type of challenge from the Cottagers.

"Fulham will be a completely different test," the full-back stated.

"Lincoln felt like a bit of a battering ram coming at us and I think Fulham will be the opposite, they will want to play complete football and keep it on the deck a lot.

"Obviously they have got some fantastic players and it is going to be a real test for us, but we'll be prepared and come up with a game plan where we can try and match them and use our own strengths against them and hopefully get the win."

He said...

"It was a real big effort from all the players on Saturday and I wasn't surprised at the end when both teams were dead on their feet. But now we've got to get the boys up for the League Cup now and it's going to be a tough one against Fulham. I'm sure we'll see a few changes and a few new faces in the team, but we're looking forward to testing ourselves against higher opposition once again." - Gareth Ainsworth, Wycombe manager

Carabao Cup Preview

This evening Fulham will travel to Adams Park to take on Sky Bet League Two outfit Wycombe Wanderers in the First Round of the 2017/18 Carabao Cup. The competition is one in which clubs often blood their younger players, and tonight's match will see the Whites do just that, as they did at the same stage last season when Ryan Sessegnon was one of four Academy graduates to debut at Leyton Orient.

Academy Director Huw Jennings is looking forward to the encounter. "These types of cup competitions are the perfect opportunity for our younger players to really seize their chances and show what they can do," he said. "As ever, they've been working hard in training and it's very pleasing to see them step up and represent Fulham in competitions like the Carabao Cup."

Both Jennings and Director of Football Operations Tony Khan agreed how essential the Academy is to Fulham, and the Club's general plans for ensuring a continued pipeline of success. "Tony and I are very much on the same page about the direction of the Academy and how it is integrated into the structure of the Club as a whole. We're all looking forward to an interesting evening and the new season in general. The future here at the Club is extremely bright," Jennings went on to say.

"We're really proud of our Academy and the work Huw has done," Khan added. "It's great to have a cohesive approach across all levels of play here and I'm truly looking forward to tonight."

Fulham's new striking sensation must get the nod tonight as the Cottagers head to Wycombe

Fulham conceded a late equaliser at the weekend as Norwich City snatched a draw at Craven Cottage in the dying minutes of the game, and boss Slavisa Jokanovic will be keen to get his side back to winning ways when they travel to Wycombe in the Carabao Cup this evening.

The Cottagers will be key to avoid any potential upset, and Jokanovic is likely to field a strong squad to ensure his side advance to the next round.

The Serbian boss has made a number of new signings this summer, and may use this opportunity to give his new men much needed game time as they look to integrate into the squad.

One man who came off the bench on Saturday is striker Aboubakar Kamara, who may get the start this evening as he goes in search of the first goal for his new club.

The 22-year-old Frenchman linked up with the west London outfit having helped fire French side Amiens to Ligue 1 last season, and having scored 15 goals in 45 appearances last semester, will aim to improve on that total in the English game.

Heading to League Two Wycombe is the perfect opportunity for Kamara to find his feet, and although the promotion hopefuls will certainly not go down without a fight, a strong Fulham side should have enough about them to see off the challenge.

Kamara is an ambitious young forward who has come to this country with the hope of one day playing in the Premier League, and tonight could be the game in which he announces himself.

If the Frenchman gets the nod, expect him to find the net this evening.

MATCH PREVIEW: Wycombe Wanderers vs Fulham

Thankfully for football fans up and down the country, the football league season is back and in full swing.

The opening weekend of fixtures came just last weekend, but we've only had to wait till tonight before there is more football to be played, as the Carabao/EFL Cup commences later today.

There are lots of interesting and exciting ties to look forward to, with Wycombe Wanderers vs Fulham being one of them.

'The Chairboys' had an impressive League two campaign last season, as they pushed for a play off place right to the final day, missing out by just one point, as Blackpool managed to secure the last position.

The Buckinghamshire based club will be looking to challenge at the business end of the division again this time out, and had a decent start to their campaign, drawing 2-2 with newly promoted Lincoln City, who many believe will have a good season following their FA Cup success last season, and have the potential to cause an upset tonight.

Fulham also had a good season in their respective division, in the Championship, finishing sixth and securing a play off place.

The London-based club were undoubtedly the form team during the back-end of the season, winning five of their last six games, and put the pressure on Leeds who ultimately crumbled and gave the final play off position to 'The Cottagers'.

Many thought the play offs were Fulham's to lose, but ultimately Slavisa Jokanovic's men fell short, but will be looking to push on again this season, and started similarly to Wycombe, with a draw, against Norwich City, and will be looking to push far in the cup competitions as well.
