FULHAM are signing Braga star Rui Fonte, the Portuguese club's chairman has revealed.

Former Arsenal striker Fonte is set to join the Championship club for £8.3m (€9.125m), according Antonio Salvador.

Braga rejected three bids from Fulham but Salvador has admitted it is "impossible" to stop him from moving to Craven Cottage.

He said: "Rui Fonte was not, at all, a player we wanted to sell.

"He was a player we counted on for this season and for the next and he was a captain of our team."

Salvador added: "This proposal from Fulham has already been over a month and this was already the fourth proposal: it went through the €4m, the €6m, and then the €7.5m... I always refused and said that the player was not saleable."

Meanwhile, Fulham are in talks with Cardiff City over a move for left-back Joe Bennett.

The Whites are on the hunt for a left-back after selling Scott Malone to Huddersfield.

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock said: "I think they're talking to our people. I'm not aware of anything definite.

"I think he has a buyout clause in his contract and then it's up to them, if they meet it then they're entitled to talk to him.

"It doesn't mean he's going anywhere but they're entitled to talk to him."

Fulham drew 0-0 at Leeds United last night but have lost Chelsea loanee Lucas Piazon to a broken leg.

Fulham Slaps £50M Valuation on Tottenham Target Ryan Sessegnon After Rejecting Bid

Fulham have placed a price tag of £50m on Tottenham Hotspur target Ryan Sessegnon, following a sizeable bid from last season's Premier League runners-up.

The (temporarily) Wembley side saw a bid rejected by their London neighbours, who seem quite keen on keeping the 17-year-old on their end of the city.

Sessegnon signed his first professional contract at the club in June of 2016 after expressing his desire to remain at Craven Cottage for at least another season. The player put pen to paper on a three-year deal, having joined back in 2008.

Tottenham have denied submitting a formal bid for the player, who was also a target for Liverpool and Manchester City, but The Times report that an offer believed to be worth £25m was rebuffed by the Championship side.

Mauricio Pochettino hasn't managed to recruit any new players this summer. However, Spurs are believed to still be in the hunt for several prospects.

Paris Saint-Germain's Serge Aurier is thought to be one such target, yet the Londoners are hesitant to pay what the French side are demanding, although they are willing to meet the player's personal demands.

Davinson Sanchez is also being monitored, with Spurs confident they will land him this summer. The £27m-rated Ajax centre-back has shown impressive form in Holland, but any deal could see up to £40m forked out due to add-ons.

Pochettino is also considering a move for Everton's Ross Barkley, but Premier League champions Chelsea are also keen and could make things rather difficult for the Argentinian.

Aston Villa should move for Fulham's Aluko

OPINION

Aston Villa should consider trying to sign Fulham attacker Sone Aluko in the remainder of the transfer window to help bolster their options up front.

The Mail claim that the 28-year-old is getting extremely frustrated at Craven Cottage as the club are refusing to offer a new long-term deal, which is a policy they have in place for players over the age of 28.

It is understood that the Nigeria international is frustrated as Fulham have also rejected "multiple bids" from Reading for him.

The report details that Aluko wants an improved deal as his contract expires at the end of the season, or he wants to be allowed to leave this summer.

Villa should enter the race to try tempt him to join the Midlands club as it's evident the squad needs someone of his mould.

Aluko is a versatile attacker that can play either out wide or in a central position, which is an area that Villa need significant improve in.

Steve Bruce's side have started the campaign in poor form and have just one point from their opening three games.

They are lacking a real goal threat from wide areas and that is exactly what they would be acquiring if they signed Fulham's ace.

Aluko was in brilliant form last season during his 50 appearances, scoring nine goals and supplying 12 assets in return.

He can play anywhere across the frontline and has the pace and technical ability to hurt Championship defences.

Villa can't rely on the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor out wide this season if they are to fulfil their ambitions of a promotion bid and Aluko would be a big step in the right direction if they get him.

Cardiff City line up swoop for Preston left-back warrior Greg Cunningham as Joe Bennett's replacement

Warnock ready to act swiftly to bring in a defender he has admired for many years

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock is eyeing up Preston captain Greg Cunningham as a potential replacement for Fulham target Joe Bennett.

Sources in Lancashire say Warnock has admired 26-year-old Cunningham for some time and is ready to make his move if Bennett chooses to leave for Craven Cottage.

Warnock says the issue of whether Bennett stays or goes is entirely in the hands of the player himself.

Fulham have matched a release clause in Bennett's Bluebirds contract and it is down to the former England under-21 international to determine his own future.

However, Championship table-toppers Cardiff are not prepared to let Bennett leave for London without signing a direct like-for-like left back replacaement.

The man Warnock is said to be keen to land is Cunningham, who has won four caps for the Republic of Ireland, and who he has been linked with before.

The former Manchester City youngster made two cup appearances for the Sky Blues, before ending up at Deepdale via Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

Cunningham, Preston's player of the year in his first season at the club, was rewarded with a new contract that takes him through to 2019 and was also handed the captaincy this summer.

Given Cunningham is highly rated by the Preston hierarchy, it would take the Bluebirds a seven-figure sum to prise him away from Deepdale.

But Cardiff would net a slightly bigger fee from Fulham for Bennett and owner Vincent Tan has sanctioned the move for much of that money to go straight into signing a replacement left-back.

Ironically, it is former Bluebirds chief Peter Ridsdale - the man who brought Tan to Cardiff in the first place - who acts as Preston's football advisor these days, so he will be involved in any transfer deal.

Cunningham appeared in 39 of Preston's 46 league fixtures last season, helping the side to an impressive 11th-place, finishing above the Bluebirds on goal difference.

Cunningham injured his knee during Preston's loss to Derby on Tuesday night, the same evening Warnock's Bluebirds beat Sheffield United 2-0 to soar to the top of the Championship.

The left-back landed awkwardly after jumping for a header, but Preston boss Alex Neil is optimistic the injury is not too bad.

"I think he's just hyper-extended his knee," said Neil. "When he comes down his knee bends backwards.

"Greg's an absolute warrior though. He puts his body through the wringer day in, day out and we're hoping he will be okay."

It is that type of commitment, on top of his ability and experience, that has made Cunningham a target for Warnock, whose other Bluebirds transfer dealings have been excellent.

Player to have medical at Fulham today after €11m fee agreed

When Portuguese outlet Record reported that Fulham were signing Rui Fonte from Braga yesterday, there weren't many details out. They only said it would be a €9m deal, and the money would be split between Braga and Fonte's former club Benfica.

Now all the Portuguese newspapers seem to know about the transfer, and it turns out that it's quite interesting how the London side were insisting on landing the player this summer.

As reported by A Bola, Fulham first tried with a €4m bid in June, then a €7m offer two weeks ago, and only now have they been able to convince Braga to sell the player.

The amount of the transfer will be €9.125m, and there's a couple of bonuses included: one for goals scored and another for Fulham achieving Premier League promotion. They can make the total figure reach up to €11m.

The player is expected to earn €1m per year at Fulham, which is a significant pay rise from what he used to make at Braga.

Fonte had to be excluded from the squad which travelled to Finland for the Europa League playoffs, and he's in a hurry to have his medical at Fulham still today.

Newspaper O Jogo reports that the Championship side's idea is to play him against Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheyi Ojo joins Fulham on season-long loan

Liverpool forward Sheyi Ojo has joined Fulham on a season-long loan.

The 20-year-old completed the temporary switch to the Championship side today and will spend the duration of 2017-18 with the west London club.

Fulham have begun the new campaign with successive 1-1 draws against Norwich and Reading.

Ojo, who has previously spent time on loan with Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers, has made 13 appearances for the Reds first team since his debut at Exeter City back in January 2016.

Ojo Joins On Loan

The Club is delighted to announce the signing of Sheyi Ojo from Liverpool on a season-long loan.

Ojo, who can operate across the front line, came through MK Dons' academy before joining the Reds in a multi-million pound deal at the age of 14 in November 2011. He'd spent time training with the Dons' first team prior to the switch.

His first taste of professional football came during a loan spell with Wigan Athletic, where he made 11 appearances in the second half of the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

Ojo was back in England's second tier for the first half of the following term, scoring three times in 19 appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers, including one at Craven Cottage.

He made his debut for the Merseyside club in an FA Cup draw against Exeter City in January 2016, before scoring on his first appearance at Anfield as Liverpool won the Replay 3-0.

A further nine run-outs followed for the youngster in 2015/16, including eight in the Barclays Premier League, which saw him contribute four assists.

After featuring in all of England's matches, scoring twice, at the Under-19 European Championship that summer as the Lions reached the Semi-Finals, a back injury hindered his start to the subsequent domestic campaign, although he still made two appearances for Liverpool in the FA Cup.

He has represented his country at every age group from Under-16s to Under-20s, and was a part of history this summer as England won the U20 World Cup. The 20-year-old played in five of his nation's matches, missing only the Round of 16 and Quarter-Final ties.

His most impressive performance arguably came in the Semi-Final against Italy, where he came off the bench to make two goals in England's 3-1 victory.

Tony Khan commented: "I'm delighted to welcome Sheyi Ojo to the Fulham Football Club. I've had the pleasure of spending time with Sheyi and his family, and I've seen firsthand what a tremendous work ethic Sheyi has both on and off the pitch.

"He possesses fantastic physical talents and also carries himself with poise and class, and I know that he's going to be a great addition to our squad."

Liverpool World Cup winner joins Fulham on season-long loan deal

20-year-old frontman moves to Craven Cottage

Fulham have announced that Liverpool frontman Sheyi Ojo has joined the club on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Fulham for the past month, although there was interest from the likes of Newcastle United and Middlesbrough too.

And after reports emerged yesterday that a deal was close, the Whites have confirmed the season-long loan move for the former Wolves and Wigan loanee.

Ojo, who can operate across the front line, came through MK Dons' academy before joining the Reds in a multi-million pound deal at the age of 14 in November 2011.

He has represented his country at every age group from U16s to U20s, and was a part of history this summer as England won the U20 World Cup.

Sheyi Ojo finalises loan move to Fulham

Liverpool and England winger Sheyi Ojo has moved to Championship side Fulham on a season long loan for the 2017/18 campaign.

I'm quite a big fan of this loan move to be honest.

I really liked Ojo back towards the end of the 2015/16 season when he broke into the first-team on a rotation basis and notched up a handful of Premier League assists, displaying pace and the ability to produce a sensational left-footed cross almost at will.

The English youngster struggled last campaign due to a back injury that kept him sidelined for a number of months and with Ryan Kent performing so well over the summer, as well as the club boasting the likes of Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mané, it was always going to be tough for him to get first-team opportunities.

Ojo has previously spent time out on loan at Wolverhampton and Wigan, impressing on both stints, so hopefully, we'll get more of the same from the promising 20-year-old and he can return a better, more experienced player.

Best of luck for the season ahead, Sheyi!

Marcus Bettinelli in talks with Fulham over new deal

Fulham are keen to secure Marcus Bettinelli to a new contract

Marcus Bettinelli is in talks with Fulham over a new contract, according to Sky sources.

One source has told Sky Sports News that the goalkeeper has been offered a new four-year deal at Craven Cottage, but is yet to put pen to paper.

Chelsea expressed an interest in signing Bettinelli earlier in the summer, but have since signed Willy Caballero as back up to Thibaut Courtois.

Fulham have also turned down repeated offers from Bristol City and Nottingham Forest for their No 1.

Bettinelli played a key role in Fulham's end of season surge for the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship play-offs, featuring in their final six league matches of campaign.

This new Fulham signing has come at exactly the right time, and here's why

Fulham picked up a hard earned point at Leeds United last night, but success did come at a cost, as winger Lucas Piazon suffered a broken leg under the lights at Elland Road.

The Brazilian's injury is a devastating blow for the west London outfit, who are in search of promotion this season following a play off final defeat last time out.

High hopes were held for Piazon, with the 23-year-old entering his second consecutive loan spell with the Cottagers.

However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel for Fulham fans, and the club today reportedly completed the signing of Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo, beating off a host of Premier League and Championship clubs to secure the loan signing of the young star.

Ojo's arrival has come at exactly the right time, and the player will surely act as a direct replacement for Piazon in the squad at Craven Cottage.

Jokanovic brought the Englishman into the squad as an addition rather than a replacement, but that is exactly what Ojo has become following Piazon's injury.

Both pacey wide men with the ability to put the ball into the box, Jokanovic will hope Ojo will fill the void left by Piazon, and his presence in the squad will provide a boost to a side sure to have been rocked by their colleague's horror blow.

This will perhaps place a larger burden on the 20-year-old, but he must rise to the pressure of expectation, and put in a series of performances worthy of guiding his new side into the top six.

Piazon's below is a major loss to Fulham, but Ojo's immediate arrival will ultimately, soften the blow for Jovanovic.

Fulham win the race to sign Derby County 'target' Sheyi Ojo from Liverpool

The winger has opted to join the Whites on a season-long loan deal

Fulham have won the race to sign Derby County 'transfer target' Sheyi Ojo.

The Liverpool winger has opted to join Fulham on a season-long loan, despite reported interest from both the Rams and Middlesbrough .

A deal for Ojo to head to Pride Park had apparently been agreed, but he will instead play his football at Craven Cottage.

The 20-year-old had loan spells at both Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers before he made his Liverpool debut in January 2016.

Sheyi Ojo, of Liverpool, had been linked with Derby County, Middlesbrough and Fulham

He then scored his first Liverpool goal in the FA Cup replay against Exeter City later that month.

Tony Khan, Fulham's director of football operations, told the club's website: "I'm delighted to welcome Sheyi Ojo to Fulham.

"I have had the pleasure of spending time with Sheyi and his family, and I've seen first-hand what a tremendous work ethic Sheyi has both on and off the pitch.

Fulham star bemoans Chelsea loanee's broken leg at Leeds but knows Whites must get on with the job

Piazon was clearly in a lot of pain after the challenge from Connor Shaughnessy, although it was not obvious how bad the injury was as he was helped down the tunnel

Tim Ream felt Fulham stuck at their task well against Leeds, despite team-mate Lucas Piazon being taken off with a serious injury before half-time.

Piazon was clearly in a lot of pain after the challenge from Connor Shaughnessy, although it was not obvious how bad the injury was as he was helped down the tunnel.

Often in football, when a player has suffered a serious injury, it has a knock-on effect on his team's display and distracts his team-mates.

Ream admitted it's tough when someone you care about goes off hurt, but insisted you have to ignore it until the 90 minutes are up.

"I mean you're kind of aware when he throws his hand up right away and has to be carried down the tunnel," Ream said.

"But it's one of those that we obviously care deeply what happens, but we can't focus on it and worry about it until after the whistle blows and the 90 minutes are up.

Kieran Lee and Tim Ream battle for possession (Image: Getty Images)

"You're aware of, maybe not the severity of it, but when a guy gets carried off it is noticeable."

It is the second bone Piazon has broken already in 2017, after missing a chunk of last season with a broken jaw that he picked up at Cardiff.

Ream bemoaned the bad luck of the energetic Brazilian.

He added: "He's one of those players that's so energetic and likes to throw his little frame around.

"Because he's so energetic and so eager, he goes into tackles and you know, just has some bad luck.

"Last year at Cardiff breaking his jaw, it's almost the same way – running down the line and clashing with a guy.

"It's such a shame because he brings such an energy and a passion to the team that it's going to be missed."

Fulham forward delivers ultimatum amid Championship interest

Fulham forward Sone Aluko has delivered the club an ultimatum amid reported interest from Championship rivals Reading, reports Press Association Sport.

The 28-year-old only moved to Craven Cottage last year following a four-year spell at Hull City, in which time he scored 14 goals in 108 games for the Tigers before joining Fulham on a free last summer.

And the Nigeria international enjoyed a fine debut season in West London by netting eight goals and laying on 12 assists in 45 Championship games for Slavisa Jokanovic's side, although he was unable to inspire them to promotion as they lost to Jaap Stam's Reading in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

And his excellent form has reportedly attracted interest from the Royals over the summer, and with Aluko out of contract at the end of the season, recent reports suggest that the 28-year-old has told the Cottagers to give him a new deal or accept an offer from the Berkshire outfit.

The forward was given the captain's armband by manager Jokanovic in their 0-0 draw at Leeds United on Tuesday night, but the club's policy of not offering long-term deals to players over the age of 28 have thwarted their advances with Aluko, thus casting his future at the club into doubt.
AdTech Ad

But whether this latest ultimatum from the Nigeria star prompts them to rethink their strategy very much remains to be seen.

The Verdict: Sone Aluko enjoyed an excellent first season at Fulham, one that ended in disappointment though when they failed to overcome Reading in the semi-finals of the play-offs.

And it is the Royals who are causing further problems to Slavisa Jokanovic's men this time round, but instead it's off the pitch as their interest in Aluko has prompted the Nigeria star to put pressure on his current employers to sort out his future at Craven Cottage.

He has played the full 90 minutes in all three of their Championship games this term to underline his significance in the Cottagers squad, yet that doesn't appear to have been reflected in his contract and job security at the club.

Aluko will be hoping that this recent ultimatum will sort his future out one way or another.

Fulham beat Newcastle and Middlesbrough to signing of Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo

Under-20 World Cup winner will spend the remainder of the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Craven Cottage.

Fulham also look to have clinched an £8m deal for Braga forward Rui Fonte.

North East rivals Newcastle United and Middlesbrough have officially missed out on the signing of Sheyi Ojo, with Fulham confirming that they have won a crowded race to loan the young Liverpool winger.

All three of those aforementioned clubs along with the likes of Aston Villa and Derby County had been hoping to bolster their attacking options with the capture of former Milton Keynes Dons youngster Ojo, a Reds academy graduate who has made 13 senior appearances to date under Jurgen Klopp since making his first-team bow in January 2016.

It was essentially left to the England Under-20 World Cup winner to decide which of that trio he wanted to join, with a decision seemingly taking weeks to arrive. However, it was finally revealed on Wednesday (16 August) that Ojo will spend the rest of the 2017-18 campaign at Craven Cottage.

"I'm delighted to welcome Sheyi Ojo to the Fulham Football Club," said vice-chairman and director of football operations Tony Khan. "I've had the pleasure of spending time with Sheyi and his family, and I've seen first-hand what a tremendous work ethic Sheyi has both on and off the pitch.

"He possesses fantastic physical talents and also carries himself with poise and class, and I know that he's going to be a great addition to our squad."

Ojo is already familiar with the rough and tumble of the Championship, having previously spent time with both Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He featured only 30 times in total across those two stints and was recalled from a largely disappointing spell at Molineux amid a debilitating injury crisis.

Newly-promoted Newcastle were previously said to be leading the race for Ojo and Rafael Benitez will no doubt be disappointed at having failed to land another target amid a summer of tense transfer friction at St James' Park. However, it is worth noting that the Magpies have already increased their depth in wide positions with the permanent addition of former loanee Christian Atsu and £12m ($15.4m) addition of Jacob Murphy.

Ojo boosts a Fulham squad that reached the Championship play-offs last year and have opened the 2017-18 campaign with three successive draws against Norwich City, Reading and Leeds United. Chelsea loanee Lucas Piazon broke his leg at Elland Road on Tuesday night, while reports suggest that vice-captain Sone Aluko is becoming increasingly unsettled with his contract situation following sustained interest from Reading.

Fulham, who have already added Piazon, Tomas Kalas, Aboubakar Kamara, Oliver Norwood, Ibrahima Cisse and Marcelo Djalo to their squad during the current transfer window, are also reported to have clinched the £8m signing of former Arsenal forward Rui Fonte from Portuguese outfit Braga.

Former Rangers star Sone Aluko savages online troll with cheeky Twitter comeback

The ex-Ibrox man was sharp with his response to a fan who tried to wind him up on social media.

He has experience in one of the fiercest derbies in world football, and it seems ex-Rangers star Sone Aluko is well-versed in dealing with jibes from fans.

The winger, now playing for English Championship side Fulham, responded in perfect fashion to a Twitter user who tried to claim that Aluko and his team-mates were being 'paid to do nothing' as they apparently slacked off on a visit to the gym.

But the troll was left reeling by Aluko's quick retort, as he 'suggested' that his information may have been unreliable.

Is Fulham`s Aluko Right to Feel Unsettled?

If you believe what you read in the media, that could very well be the case.

Speculation, appearing in the Press Association and as reported by Sky Sports suggests that is the case.

Our sources are inferring that Aluko feels that he deserves a new long-term contract or if that`s not the case then he should be allowed to move on.

The 28-year-old signed for Fulham last summer, on a two-year deal, his performances last season showed just what a talent he is.

Interest has already been shown by our Championship rivals, Reading, who have admitted they have submitted several unsuccessful bids.

Slavisa Jokanovic has, on the back of interest from other clubs, implied it would be a "big mistake" to sell the player who was, once again, wearing the captains` armband up at Elland Road last night.

So, how about it Fulham, sort it out before we lose somebody who is recognised by the support as a game-changer!

Slavisa Jokanovic needs to solve this problem position at Fulham

It has been a strange start to the 2017/18 campaign for Fulham, who have three-points from their opening three fixtures of the Sky Bet Championship season – a start that has been impressive but also highlighted areas that need addressing.

Fulham have drawn all three of their games so far this season, and Slavisa Jokanovic will be encouraged by he side's resilience, particularly in the away trips to Reading and Leeds United.

However, here at FLW, we believe one area Fulham have been lacking is the goalscoring department, with the Cottagers managing to score just two goals from their opening three fixtures.

Aboubakar Kamara has been signed to bolster Fulham's attacking options, but the forward has not yet shown that he has what it takes to replace Chris Martin, who was influential in Fulham's top-six finish last season.

Martin scored 10 goals for Fulham last season and there is no doubt that his return to Derby County, following his loan spell, was a blow.

Fulham's 0-0 draw at Elland Road this week highlighted the need for another striking option, after Jokanovic's side failed to find a breakthrough in the opening 20 minutes, despite dominating the game.

After riding the first 20 minutes, Leeds worked their way back into the game and could have snatched all three-points, which would have left Fulham furious after they failed to take a number of first-half opportunities.

Fulham also had chances in the second-half, but failed to break the deadlock, with Sone Aluko and Neeskens Kebano both missing glorious opportunities.

It is hard to judge Fulham's start to the season, but we believe another striker is needed between now and the end of the summer, to give Jokanovic's side an alternative and help them turn draws into victories.
