Newcastle fans react furiously as club linked with Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle are set to make a January bid for Tom Cairney, who was reportedly a target of Rafael Benitez in the summer.

Despite the ongoing takeover saga that continues to shroud St James's Park in uncertainty, it is thought that Benitez is keen to bring the Scotsman to the North East when the transfer window re-opens.

Cairney, who is valued at £9million by Transfermarkt is widely considered to be one of the best players in England outside of the top flight. However, the 26-year-old has failed to live up to expectations with Fulham this season and his club are languishing in 17th place in the Championship.

Despite this, it is thought that Newcastle are ready to make a new approach for Cairney as they look to solidify their squad for the second half of the Premier League campaign.

However, the Toon Army are seemingly unhappy at the reports and would prefer to see Benitez look for better attacking options instead...

Fulham's Tayo Edun training with England senior squad along with Chelsea loanee Jay Dasilva

The 19-year-old is in the England U20 side that will travel to Germany next week, but Gareth Southgate has invited him to train with the senior side

Tayo Edun joined up with the England senior side for training on Thursday along with Jay DaSilva as Gareth Southgate's side prepare for their friendly with Germany.

The Fulham midfielder was called-up to the U20 squad for their game, which also happens to be Germany on November 14, but is training with Southgate's senior side at St George's Park.

The 19-year-old has been on the brink of Fulham's first team this season and regularly trains with the side, along with Luca de la Torre and Matt O'Riley at Motspur Park during the season.

There's somewhat of a lack of players with the England side at the moment after a number of players have pulled out of the squad due to injury, with Southgate offering Edun and DaSilva the chance to train with the senior side.

Aaron O'Sullivan, Head of Marketing (Digital) of grosvenorcasinos.com, said: "We saw a fantastic response to the first trip in our #FollowFulhamAway initiative, and we're thrilled to be away to offer free travel for supporters looking to get behind the team on the road to Sheffield United later this month.

"We want to make sure the fans benefit as much as possible from our partnership and hope that #FollowFulhamAway can help spur the team on in its promotion push."

Tom Cairney, Captain of Fulham FC, said: "The support we had for the Leeds away match at the beginning of the season was fantastic, and everyone at the club is grateful that Grosvenorcasinos.com are helping our fans to get on the road to support us for the Sheffield United away match too.

Edun trains with England
by Dan on November 9, 2017

Fulham midfielder Tayo Edun has been training with the England senior squad this morning at St. George's Park.

Edun, who was part of the England under 19 side that won the European Championship in Georgia in July alongside Ryan Sessegnon, is currently at the national football centre in Burton as a member of the England under 20 squad that will travel to Germany for a friendly next Tuesday. The Fulham teenager, who shot to prominence during the summer tournament as a defensively-minded midfielder, was invited by Gareth Southgate to join the senior's squad practice for tomorrow's friendly against Joachim Löw's men after the likes of Harry Winks and Dele Ali withdrew from the senior squad through injury.

Edun, who signed a three year contract at Fulham in the summer, has long been highly thought of both at Motspur Park and in the national age-group set-up. He has been one of the academy graduates who Slavisa Jokanovic has promoted to train with the first-team squad regularly, although his only senior appearance this year came at left back in the League Cup defeat by Bristol Rovers. Edun joined Chelsea full-back Jay DaSilva in stepping up to the senior training sessions and, despite the clear evidence that an England squad needs a Fulham player if it is to win a major championship, Southgate decided against keeping the eager youngster in his plans for tomorrow's Wembley prestige meeting with the world champions.

Fulham's Jokanovic was once favourite to succeed Bilic at West Ham

Not too long ago Slavisa Jokanovic was favourite to succeed Slaven Bilic at West Ham, so what happened to the Fulham boss?

Slaven Bilic's time as West Ham United manager came to an end after a little over two years when we was sacked following the 4-1 Premier League defeat to Liverpool.

The East London club have wasted no time in appointing the Croatian's successor, naming David Moyes as the new boss at the London Stadium - much to the disappointment of many of the fans.

There were many names being linked with the vacant position with the Hammers, but when it came to it the man who had always been the favourite to take over from Bilic was barely mentioned, if at all.

That man is Slavisa Jokanovic, the current Fulham chief who back in April was reported by Sky Sports to be the West Ham hierarchy's first choice should there be a change in management.

At the time Jokanovic was in the process of guiding the Cottagers to a playoff place in the Championship against the odds and having also got Watford promoted to the top tier in 2014/15, his stock was high.

Then in August, with Bilic under pressure once again, the Express claimed that the Serbian was being lined up to take over from the 49 year old once again.

However, when the time actually came in November, Jokanovic was no longer even in the running it seemed; perhaps because the news that the dismissal of sporting director Craig Kline resulted in police being called to the training ground is just the latest issue in a shambolic season for the West Londoners under his stewardship.

On the pitch Fulham have not won in five games and following a 2-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers are 17th in the second tier of English football. West Ham and the top flight now seems a long way off fo Jovanovic.

Fulham's Championship odds drift as bookies back Brentford to finish above the Cottagers

After being some of the bookies' favourites for promotion this season, odds have drifted heavily for Fulham after only four wins in 16 games

Fulham's Championship odds have drifted a fair amount since the start of the season, with SkyBet now offering better odds on west London rivals Brentford to finish higher.

Slavisa Jokanovic's side were one of the favourites at the start of the season among bookies to get promoted, but only four wins in 16 games, including a winless October, have seen their odds drift heavily.

Currently sitting in 17th, SkyBet are offering odds of 100/1 for the Whites to win the division, while Brentford are being offered at 66/1 - a massive difference from the start of the season where Fulham were favoured more than the Bees.

Jokanovic's side are now also 11/1 to get promoted from the division, while they're 16/1 to win the Play-offs, with Brentford at 8/1 to get promoted and 12/1 to win the end of season showpiece.

QPR , meanwhile, 500/1 to win the league, 50/1 to get promoted and 50/1 to win the Play-offs.

Meanwhile, Fulham's attacking woes are clear for the bookies to see too - they're offering huge odds of 50/1 for Aboubakar Kamara to be the league's top scorer, while Rui Fonte is double that at 100/1.

And if you fancy a Fulham vs Brentford west London derby Play-off final, you can get that at odds of 100/1.

Kevin McDonald wants Fulham to make Craven Cottage a place teams fear once again

Only one team have come to the Cottage this season and left with nothing and McDonald insists it's time for the side mark their territory at home

Kevin McDonald wants to make Craven Cottage a place visiting teams fear once again after a torrid home campaign so far this season.

Fulham have won just once at the Cottage in eight games - a 2-1 victory over Hull in September - while drawing five of those games, including a last minute comeback against then-bottom side Bolton.

Compare that to last season, where Slavisa Jokanovic's side won ten of the 23 home games, losing just five of their games on home turf - Fulham need to lost just three more homes to already match that this time around.

McDonald is under no illusions about their home form and he believes the side to mark their territory and make the Cottage a place people fear again.

He said:"We keep saying the same things every week when we're playing at home, we have to mark our territory and we need to make this a place people come to fear and we aren't doing that right now.

"There's no reason for it - the fans are behind us for 90 minutes, the fans have stuck behind us and they're entitled to their opinion, they can boo or they can do what they want but we need to realise that it's such a great opportunity - no one wants to come here and play.

"We have a real good team but we just need to be more confident and brave, the wins will come."

One thing that is apparent this season is that everyone is capable of beating anybody else, but the vice-captain thinks that is part of the beauty of the Championship.

He added: "It's kind of annoying to be honest, sometimes you think 'ah we have a chance of winning here' and you end up drawing so it's annoying, but that's the beauty of the Championship, it's a real good league but a tough one to play in.

"It's enjoyable week-in, week-out, you play some different challenges every week and enjoy it."

Southampton XI 5-1 Fulham XI

Fulham kept their fitness levels up with an 80 minute training match at Southampton's Staplewood Training Ground on Thursday afternoon.

Ibrahima Cisse was on target for the Whites, but a strong Saints outfit had already stormed into a commanding lead by that point courtesy of a Charlie Austin hat-trick and efforts from Oriol Romeu and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The hosts went in front with just 30 seconds on the clock. Fulham lost possession on the edge of their own box, allowing Romeu the chance to pick his spot, and he sumptuously found the top right hand corner of the net.

A well organised backline made things difficult for the Whites, with a blocked Tom Cairney strike and a well defended Jordan Graham cross the closest we came to threatening an equaliser in the next phases of play.

Neat work on the left between Cairney, Graham and Rafa Soares on 20 minutes saw the latter reach the byline and deliver a low cross that was put out for a corner. From that, Aboubakar Kamara flicked Graham's delivery goalwards, but saw his effort parried by Stuart Taylor.

Then against the run of play the lead was immediately doubled. Romeu sprayed a lovely crossfield ball out to James Ward-Prowse who quickly found Austin in the middle, and the striker had the composure to round Marcus Bettinelli and prod into an empty net.

Four minutes later Saints were awarded a penalty for an apparent Yohan Mollo handball at a corner. Austin took responsibility and sent Bettinelli the wrong way to make it 3-0.

Excellent work from Steven Sessegnon on the half hour mark started a move which culminated in Cairney slipping Soares into a shooting position, and his low strike was pushed behind for a corner. That ended up dropping to Michael Madl on the edge of the box, who fired a shot into Taylor's arms.

It was four on 39 minutes when a cross from the left found Hojbjerg in the area, who managed to convert despite losing his footing.

Austin completed his hat-trick 12 minutes into the second half when he was picked out by a pinpoint cross from the right, and was able to glance his header beyond Bettinelli and inside the far post.

The Whites responded with a mazy run by half-time substitute Ryan Fredericks - who was operating on the right wing - but at the end of it his pass was deflected into the arms of Taylor.

With 25 left to play, Academy midfielder Tyrese Francois was dragged back 25 yards from goal. Madl fancied the free-kick, but bent his set-piece too close to Taylor.

Fulham came close to pulling one back on the hour mark. Nice dribbling from de la Torre allowed him to free Fredericks down the right, and he cut the ball back to Francois who was unfortunate to see his curler from 20 yards drop just wide of the far post.

A clever Cisse pass then sent the lively Francois galloping into space, but his dinked cross couldn't find a man in black in the middle.

On 66 minutes Bettinelli made a fine save to deny Austin a fourth goal of the afternoon when he got down brilliantly to thwart the striker's low shot, before getting up quickly to keep out Ward-Prowse's follow-up.

Fulham were desperate to get on the scoresheet and Rui Fonte was within a whisker of achieving that when he collected Sessegnon's pass and drilled towards the far post, only for it to deflect agonisingly wide.

But the consolation arrived from the subsequent corner as Cisse burst into space to convert O'Riley's sweet delivery.

Cisse nearly got a second in the final minute, but his outstretched toe couldn't quite turn in Denis Odoi's flick-on to the far post after he connected with a Graham free-kick.

Fulham: Bettinelli, S Sessegnon, Madl (Graham 65), Djalo, Soares (Odoi 40), Cisse, Cairney (Francois 40), McDonald (O'Riley 40), Mollo (Fredericks 40), Kamara (Fonte 40), Graham (de la Torre 40).

Southampton: Taylor, Pied, Stephens, Gardos (Bakary 69), Targett, Romeu (Obafemi 69), McQueen, Ward-Prowse, Hojbjerg, Redmond, Austin.

Injury update on Derby County pair ahead of Championship clash with Fulham

Rams hopeful defender Richard Keogh and striker Matej Vydra will be fit for TV game

Derby County are hopeful skipper Richard Keogh and striker Matej Vydra will hand them a boost for the Championship clash against Fulham.

Keogh limped off after only eight minutes of last Saturday's 4-2 home defeat by Reading due to a thigh injury.

The defender has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's two-legged World Cup play-off tie against Denmark.

Ireland are in Denmark on Saturday with the second leg in Dublin on Tuesday.

Vydra was an unused substitute against Reading and it was revealed later that he has a calf problem which saw him withdraw from the Czech Republic squad.

Derby return to Championship action against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, November 18, and manager Gary Rowett is hopeful both players will be available.

"Richard felt his thigh, quite high up on his thigh," Rowett added.

"I think it came on the back of a very heavy week physically. The Leeds and Norwich games were two of our most physical games in terms of work rate and the energy exerted.

"Richard's thigh didn't pull or go, but he felt it just enough to realise the best course of action was to come off, which was correct.

"We hope the two weeks will be enough for it to settle down. We hope he will be OK for Fulham.

"It is the same with Vyds (Matej Vydra). We know how vitally important he is, and hopefully he will be OK."

Fulham hit for five in Southampton friendly
by Dan on November 9, 2017

Tom Cairney played 40 minutes as a Fulham side were well beaten by Premier League Southampton in a friendly at Saints' Staplewood training ground earlier today.

The Fulham skipper, who missed the Whites' latest league defeat at leaders Wolves on Friday night, came through this hastily-arranged behind closed doors fixture with no complaints but Fulham's adventurous style saw them picked off easily by their hosts. The tone was set just thirty seconds in when Oriel Romeu punished some ponderous Fulham passing on the edge of their own box and curled a gorgeous effort around a helpless Marcus Bettinelli into the top corner.

Fulham had a decent spell of pressure after going behind with Cairney seeing a shot blocked and Aboubakar Kamara's header from a corner pushed away by Stuart Taylor. Slavisa Jokanovic's side failed to take their chances and were swiftly punished by a rapid Southampton break. Romeu located James Ward-Prowse with a searching crossfield ball and former QPR forward Charlie Austin sauntered around Bettinelli to double Saints lead when he was supplied by the England under-21 international.

Austin had his second five minutes later when Yohan Mollo inexplicably handled the ball at a corner – with the striker sending Bettinelli the wrong way from twelve yards. Steven Sessegnon, who attacked with intent down the right flank throughout, sparked Fulham's first attack for a while with a powerful run but Rafa Soares' drive was turned aside by Taylor.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg punished some lethargic defending six minutes before the break to make it four and Austin completed a clinical hat-trick just before the hour mark when he nodded home a floated cross from the left. Fulham kept going to the end with Ryan Fredericks, Michael Madl and Tyrese Francois all going close before Bettinelli made a sprawling double save to deny Austin and Ward-Prowse in quick succession.

The visitors did get something of a consolation when Ibrahima Cisse burst away from his marker to power home Matt O'Riley's corner – but it proved another chastening afternoon for Fulham.

SOUTHAMPTON: Taylor; Pied, Stephens, Gardos (Bakary 69), Targett; Romeu (Obafemi 69), McQueen; Ward-Prowse, Højbjerg, Redmond; Austin.

GOAL: Romeu (1), Austin (21, pen 26, 59), Hojbjerg (39)

FULHAM (4-3-3): Bettinelli; S. Sessegnon, Madl (Graham 65), Djalo, Soares (Odoi 40); Cisse, Cairney (Francois 40), McDonald (O'Riley 40); Mollo (Fredericks 40), Kamara (Fonte 40), Graham (de la Torre 40).

GOAL: Cisse (84).

Fulham v Birmingham City: Even the increased allocation is running out

More than 3,700 BCFC fans expected to be at Craven Cottage

Birmingham City fans continue to hoover up tickets for next month's match with Fulham.

The Blues ticket office have advised fans on Twitter that less than 200 tickets remain for the game on December 9.

That means not only have Blues sold out their entire original allocation of 2,810 - which lasted just 24 hours on general sale.

They have also snapped up around 750 of the extra 941 they announced on Wednesday.

If, as seems likely, those too are sold Blues could be backed by 3,750 fans at Craven Cottage - an increase on last season when the team was performing much better.

It will also represent yet another sell-out in keeping with virtually every other away fixture this season - matches that have produced just one point from eight games.

Is ex-Fulham ace Lasse Vigen Christensen finally justfiying Celtic interest?

Celtic were linked with Lasse Vigen Christensen in the summer but Brondby signed the Danish midfielder from Fulham instead.

Celtic's reported interest in Lasse Vigen Christensen raised a few eyebrows in the summer. The Mail claimed that the Scottish Champions were interested in Fulham's Danish midfielder – but there was little reason to believe he could be the second coming of Moussa Dembele.

Unlike the prolific Frenchman, Christensen had failed to force his way into Fulham's first-team plans. In fact, he even spent the second half of the Championship season on loan at relegation threatened Burton Albion.

There won't have been too much concern on the green half of Glasgow, then, when Christensen instead left Fulham to return to his homeland with Brondby in July.

Though Scandinavian air appears to have done good things for Christensen, once one of the most highly-rated young midfielders in English football. Because the former Denmark Under-21 ace scored four times in his first two Superliga games for Brondby, including a hat-trick off the bench in a 5-3 win against Lyngby.

Christensen was named the league's Player of the Month for September. And while the 23-year-old hasn't scored since, and has started just six of his 13 games for Brondby, he is proving himself to be a versatile and intelligent addition to the squad.

Capable of playing in midfield or on either flank, the versatile Dane is the sort of player every team could do with – and that includes a Celtic side who attempting to stay in Europe after Christmas while fighting on three domestic fronts.

Intelligent, tactically astute and with a new-look eye-for-goal, the Christiansen of Brondby suddenly looks like a player that could be useful to Brendan Rodgers at Parched.

Fulham track Utrecht ace Ayoub

HITC Sport understands Fulham eye Moroccan winger Ayoub.

Fulham are weighing up a move for highly-rated Utrecht midfielder Yassine Ayoub, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

The West London side have been keeping tabs on Ayoub for some time and have had scouts watch the attacking midfielder on several occasions this season.

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic wants to add more attacking options to his side when the transfer window reopens in January after a disappointing start to the season and Ayoub would fit the bill.

Ayoub impressed last season at Utrecht, scoring five goals and laying on 12 assists to help the club qualify for the Europa League and so far this term has scored one goal and created one assist in 11 games.

The 23-year-old's future was the subject of speculation in the summer with Sunderland credited with an interest in the Moroccan-born winger, but Utrecht managed to keep hold of him.

Ayoub is out of contract at Utrecht next summer and with no new deal in the offing the Eredivisie club could decide to cash-in on the player rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires.

Ayoub has represented Netherlands at various youth levels up to the under-21s, but he has now switched allegiances to Morocco, although he is yet to win a cap for the African country.

Ayoub came through the famed Ajax youth academy before joining Utrecht in 2009 and the player is thought to be interested in a move to England if Fulham firm up their interest.

Really?  So underwhelming as usual.  We need another no name winger like I need bowel cancer.  How about a bloody striker with a track record of scoring goals in a decent league?????
