Fulham FC gets go-ahead to build training facilities on old BBC sports ground in Motspur Park

Fulham FC's plans to use the old BBC sports ground at Motspur Park as a satellite training ground have taken a big step forward.

Plans to install pitches and put up temporary buildings have been approved by Kingston Council, allowing them to stay up for five years while the club develops a longer-term strategy for the site.

The buildings will be used for changing, training, welfare and security, and will replace the pavilion building that was demolished in 2016 after an arson attack.

And there will be two full-sized pitches with under-soil heating alongside other training areas.

The club bought the ground, which had been unused for more than ten years, in 2017, promising in a statement to be "respectful owners and excellent neighbours".

Work is expected to start as soon as possible, to have the pitches ready for training in the 2018/19 season.

What is meant by "allowing them to stay up for five years while the club develops a longer-term strategy for the site"?

Are we going to redevelop Motspur park during these 5 years?

It means we can use the temporary buildings for 5 years while the construction of the permanent ones are built.

There must be a plan in mind already but anyone who knows the area will be aware that any change will have to be handled very delicately, but we should be used to that by now.

To those who don't know the ground there was an impressive pavilion, now destroyed at the end of the drive.

One Rugby and 4 Football pitches, several tennis courts (2 or 4?) and an inflatable dome housing 2 tennis courts.
On the far side the boundary is the railway line while houses back on to the rest of the ground.

There was also 2 cricket pitches at one stage, it is a huge area just right to build our new stadium on  :dft012:

I have previously said on another thread that I  played there many times and the football pitches were always very heavy.
That will be overcome by the fact that they are to be relaid.

The large pavilion has been mentioned above and in the shower room there was a plunge bath which was just about big enough to swim in.Lovely after a game.

The fence next to the  railway line never seemed to be high enough to prevent  balls going over.
A dangerous job for whoever on the staff  had to retrieve them!!
