Nigel Clough in manager of the month running with Middlesbrough, Fulham and Wolves bosses

The Burton Albion manager has overseen his side's late charge for Championship safety

Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough has been nominated for manager of the month for April in the Sky Bet Championship's final awards of the campaign.

Albion began the month with back-to-back draws against Middlesbrough and Birmingham City, when Clough's side were denied victory in the dying moments by Britt Assombalonga and Lukas Jutkiewicz respectively.

But following a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Hull City, Burton bounced back with three successive wins over Derby County, Sunderland and Bolton Wanderers to keep their survival dream alive heading into the final day.

Clough is up against three managers at the other end of the division - Fulham's Slavisa Jokanovic, Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis and Nuno Espirito Santo of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Jokanovic has helped keep Fulham in the running for automatic promotion, with the Cottagers taking 16 points from six games last month. They are still unbeaten since December.

Pulis' Boro secured a play-off place with some impressive form, while Wolves completed their inevitable charge to the title under Santo - and they could surpass the 100-point mark this weekend.

In the running for the player of the month award are Daniel Ayala (Middlesbrough), Lewis Grabban (Aston Villa), Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham) and Harry Wilson, who scored against the Brewers for Hull City in their 5-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium.

The winners will be announced on Friday morning.

Thursday morning has seen the the April nominations for Championship Player of the Month Award announced, with Aleksandar Mitrovic once again one of those chosen.

One of the goals was the vital winner against Sunderland, Fulham winning 2-1 thanks to Mitro's header.

This is the EFL Official website write-up:

Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham)

"A second successive nomination for March's winner.

"Scored in five of his six games, including the winners against Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland.

"As well as his all-round contribution, his passion for the club as a loan player is striking."

The nominations for Championship Manager of the Month have also been announced.

Nigel Clough (Burton Albion) is up against Slavisa Jokanovic (Fulham), Tony Pulis (Middlesbrough) and Nuno Espirito Santo (Wolverhampton Wanderers). The Fulham boss nominated for a fourth month in a row.

EFL Official write-up:

Nigel Clough:

April began with Burton bottom and four points from safety. A 5-0 home defeat by Hull seemed to signal relegation but such is the trust between Clough and his players that three straight wins followed and offered hope of survival.

Amongst those Burton wins was the dramatic 2-1 win at the Stadium of Light, which finally relegated Sunderland.

Winners of both awards will be announced tomorrow (Friday 6 May).
