Not sure that part is entirely accurate as I've seen some reports saying he's on closer to £85k a week

With so many teams expanding financially I think the competition may open out a little bit and become a lot harder for one team to monopolise. Maybe in the not too far future it will be an actively competitive league between a fair few teams.

But I'd be equally astounded if he's only 45k.

Somewhere between the two I should imagine.

Average salary at a bottom half premiership team will be about £50k pw and he must be significantly above the average standard of bottom half players.

Agreed, 85k a week seems about right.
Our previous highest earner I believe was Zamora who was given a 50k a week contract, so 85-100k a week years later for a record signing doesn't seem too unreasonable
