Both championship players & untested in the PL.
That makes no sense - since every player in the PL was untested in the PL at some point !

The trick is to spot potential and make sure they have the best coaching to bring them on
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

What do we think about Bryan? Can he handle the step up?

I would argue the full back position is one of the toughest. You come up against some of the most skillfull players in the world and yet we seemingly have Christie and now potentially Bryan as our players to combat this.

Bryan played against Man City and Utd last season  and played really well against both and even scored against Utd so don't have too many worries he won't cope unlike some of the the others we have been linked with.
He will only improve under SJ
Watch the goal on You tube
Just great

Tooting legend

He would be a great signing definitely first voice forget Targett now this for me is a far better deal

So that's a bit like Finan & Brevett then?
Or Fredericks at WSpam?
Or just about any LB we have been linked with. I don't recall many if any with Premiership experience

fulhamben

lot of villa fans saying that he signed a contract for villa and thats binding. but dont bc and villa have to ratify with the fa which is usally done at the end
CHRIS MARTIN IS SO BAD,  WE NOW PRAISE HIM FOR MAKING A RUN.

grandad

Every player who has ever played in the top division was untested at one time.
Where there's a will there's a wife

Fernhurst

Villa forums in melt down,,,,,, dirty rotten Fulham nicked their man, Bruce chasing him down the motorway!!
He wants to play for a Premier League Club and not a massive club

Unlucky Villa  064.gif  :wine:
The atmosphere's fresh and the debate lively.

Dendoncker looks like he's going to Wolves. Maybe we could swoop in last minute again and steal him away? He's be a dream scenario defensive MF for us.

itombomb

I like Targett, but he's largely untested at PL level too, and not worth 15m particularly as he lacks top level pace.

Worst case we ship Bryan back to the Championship for a couple of mill, and have that and the leftover 9m to spend on someone else in January.

The Sergio Rico stuff is really weird if true, either Fabri is a complete dud or something odd is happening with Betts.

Fernhurst

Targett must be upset, but I would not put it past Hughes to say no a last minute.

Do we think we have a better player for a 8 million saving?

I know, right? Doesn't make sense to me on any level. Rico is a top class young GK, and starter for his club. Year long loan to us makes zero sense from their perspective too.

Also, Fabri is better at passing out from the back and playing the sweeper role that Joka likes, so can't imagine he has the attributes to fit our style of play either.

I'd be seriously disappointed after the summer we've had so far if we ended up with these two as our wing backs. We've had an entire summer to sort out what are two key positions for the way we play and in LB one we're worryingly short on and I'm not convinced these two have what it takes.

And I say that remembering finnan who made the step up, brevett to a lesser degree, and seen players who've found their level in the Championship or low end of premiership in the likes of Liam rosenio and the likes of quedreue play for us and struggle. These two leave a lot to be dsired and the leagues got even more competitive since we were last in it.

As good as for half the price

Yes and for half the price

The thought of Bruce chasing Bryan done the motorway is hilarious! What an evening. If anyone wants a laugh, take a look on twitter haha
I was there, standing in the Putney end

Bryan is an attacking full back, used to English football, and is also English so will probably strike up the same chemistry that Targett had with Sess. I can't work out how people were getting excited about Targett at £15m but think that Bryan is underwhelming. The only LB we've been linked with that is more exciting as a prospect is Hernandez, but he wants to stay in Spain and hasn't played outside of Spain so would be a risk in adapting to the PL. Look at it this way, saving £8m by buying Bryan allows us to go all out for Hugo Mallo and now we've got two quality full backs and Christie is now the backup RB

Bryan's Agent apparently said the deal is not binding.

I never commented on targett for 15 million but personally think that's a bit too steep for him.

If we get in Mollo then Bryan becomes our weakest position in the back four.

Ideally tomorrow we sign a quality LB, RB, DM and striker. Fingers crossed.

Yes Rico has come out of the blue, but it has legs. 6ft 5ins and 24 years, apparently a one year loan. It's all hearsay, but it begs the question why.
I thought Betts who has had a niggling injury, was fit for selection for this Saturday.
