We need a LB, CB, and Mitrovic. That's the bare minimum to stand a chance of survival.

To really give our system a chance of top 10 this year we need to improve on the main foundations of our squad and philosophy ie keeper and two full backs - the key to getting the ball out of defence and up to our danger men.

Saw on twitter we had a offer in for Bertrand... whether true or not I do not know... Targett or Bertrand?

With Liverpool agreeing a fee for Alisson, I imagine Simon Mignolet would be surplus to requirements - possible competition for Bettinelli this season?

One is a PL veteran who has performed for years now, and the other has less than 50 first team appearances and half a good season in the championship.

Bertrand all day - almost certainly rubbish though as he is after a move to a "big" club by the sounds of things. A move to Fulham is sideways at best. Maybe just a tactic to encourage them to let Targett go - or (more likely IMO) the usual Twitter nonsense.

I've scanned the last few pages of this thread and not seen this.... best dreads since Rufus?

https://www.westlondonsport.com/fulham/whites-keen-to-sign-former-newcastle-defender

Fulham are interested in signing former Newcastle right-back Kevin Mbabu from Swiss club Young Boys.

The 23-year-old joined Newcastle in 2013 and made just three league appearances for the Magpies before returning to his native Switzerland.

His performances have since attracted interest from a number of clubs and Fulham are ready to hand him the chance of a return to England.

The Whites have been looking for a right-back since losing Ryan Fredericks to West Ham.

They have made an approach for Mbabu but are yet to submit a formal bid.

Reports in the Swiss media suggest Basel are also interested in him.

Not being funny, but Bertrand will either go for a bigger club than Saints or sign a a new bumper contract.....I don't imagine theres much fruit to it but happily be wrong! On a side of who would you rather, Targett or Bertrand, its an absolute no brainer. Ones international quality, one isn't and thats absolutely no disrespect to Targett who i'm a huge fan of!

GJB

Barrett 487 ... Newcastle fans on twitter liked him and were confused why he left after a few appearances - i think at £10m he'd be a useful purchase as he has pace, physicality and can play either RB, LB, or CB apparently.

Local Everton news:"Everton NOT interested in Bordeaux winger Malcom"

https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/everton-not-interested-bordeaux-winger-14922921

Given that we've spend so many pages on "squad size" - the interesting thing from this article is - Everton must also reduce the size of their squad and following the departures of Joel Robles, Ramiro Funes Mori, Wayne Rooney and Luke Garbutt, on loan, are looking to move on more players before the end of August.

So not only have they moved on 4 players and brought in no one - they still have a bucket full of players to move on

Makes our situation look dandy
It could be better, but it's not a fantasy:

We now have an acadamy with decent young players coming through. Should we buy players we totally block their route to the first team and get peanuts for them. I would by happy to sign our loaners from last year plus a couple more

We certainly do seem to have a great Academy.
Only thing is how many of them make into the team for very long or at all.
I'm sure there's a lot more over the last few years.
Dembele, Roberts,  Woodrow, Plumain, Donnelly, Evans, Briggs, Banya, George Williams,
Kavanagh,  Hyndman, Arthurworrey,  with only Betts and Sess making an impact

Before anyone jumps on my head, I'm 68 and forgetful.

Just seen something on a player at youth level now at man City called Taylor Richards and him being likened to neymar.. then transpired he was a Fulham U14 player. Anyone know anything about him and why he left?

Lot of bed wetting going on about the bookies odds about relegation. Weren't Newcastle and Brighton in that sphere last season, and I'd say we're better than them.
Yes we need a few players in but I believe what we have at moment will easily be mid table.Coyw.
We're a better side than some of you  think. 049:gif
Just try naming our two centre backs against Palace, we will be caught with our trousers down if we do not replace some of the lost loan players within the next week or two.
Ream and Marchand

so two left-sided CBs and a left back as backup
that will work... just as long as our opponents are all heavily right-footed
I didn't say it was good or bad or ideal but he asked the question.
Just the views of a long term fan

Now that Everton are out of the Malcom hunt - is there a possibility that Tony Khan could nip in with the Ace of Trumps?

Yes but are they? French sources saying Everton are definitely talking to Bordeaux

This afternoon a reporter for the local paper says they're not - I would imagine he knows someone at the club

There's a big difference talking to a cub vs talking to a player and having a bid accepted.. which seems to be the difference between a lot of articles.. that said Liverpool echo and Bordeaux local paper both say they're not in discussions... more believable if both local papers say nothing is going on..
