Hector Herrera is a 28 y-o Mexican midfielder, playing for Porto. Is he what we need?
Stay Fulhamish ~ stay unique

Not really, CF, CB, LB (probably in that order) are our key priorities.

Certainly seems another ambitious one though as he was linked with Arsenal a couple of days ago. Roma and Inter Milan have apparently also made enquiries.

Would rather we signed a Midfielder on the cheap/on loan/on a free like Miguel Veloso or Claudio Yacob and had them as back up so we'd have McDonald, Cairney, Seri starting and then Johansen and the new one on the bench. Herrera would be very expensive, and Midfield's our best area in-terms of depth. Even O'Riley wouldn't be a horrible option to have on the bench.

Need to sign some defenders ASAP. More important than signing a Striker even, because we could always play Schurrle up-front and have AK47 as the RW which I'd expect to see in one of the games at the weekend.

Whitesideup

Harry Arter out of favour at Bournemouth - has fallen out with Eddie Howe. Brother-in-law of Mr Parker. We have other priorities, and I think central midfield is one of our strengths. And falling out with a reasonable man like Eddie Howe? not a good sign. Any interest as back-up / squad player?

HV71

You simply do not want any potential issues of nepotism or unintended favouritism in the dressing room - especially with an inexperienced coach. Do not even think about especially given the fact that the guy has fallen out with Eddie Howe!

snarks

Harry Arter is a good midfielder, very combative and a ROI international. Also Eddie Howe, is a very good manager, but you don't get to be a good manager in the premiership unless you are very tough and ruthless. Sentiment doesn't get you or keep you up, I think it's harsh to say Arter fell out with a reasonable manager like Howe. Bournemouth has a bad start to the season, but recovered well, Howe probably decided Arter didn't fit how he wanted to play. They stayed up, he was right. Arter wants to play regularly, who can blame him. Nothing wrong with either party for that.

Two Ton Ted

Is Harry Arter better than anyone is our current midfield?  Probably not, so I can't see much benefit of signing squad fillers when there are much more pressing concerns.
Never ever bloody anything ever.

Arter coming makes no sense. We need to upgrade, and he has nothing that our current midfield don't have. Seri has magic (apparently) and Schurrle has moves and scoring prowess..... Arter is ROTM.

Fulham make Herrera offer

Fulham have made an offer for Porto's defensive midfielder Hector Herrera, according to reports from Mexico.

Record claims that Whites boss Slavisa Jokanovic has told the Mexican international that he wants to make him a key player in the club's midfield as they prepare to return to the Premier League and that the 28 year-old is excited about the possibility of a move to England. Porto have responded to Fulham's offer by revealing their valuation of the World Cup star – and negotiations between the two parties are ongoing with a view to a potential transfer.

Herrera would likely fit in Jokanovic's favoured 4-3-3 system as a deep-lying midfielder, taking the anchor role currently played by the experienced Scottish midfielder Kevin McDonald, with new signing Jean-Michael Seri and skipper Tom Cairney operating in front of him. He is under contract with Porto until 2019 and the Portuguese giants are strongly considering a sale as they do not want to lose one of their key players for nothing next summer when his current contract expires. He has a minimum fee release clause of £35m,

Herrera is vastly experienced on the international stage, having won seventy caps for Mexico and scored five goals. He has an Olympic gold medal from London 2012, where the Mexicans stunned Brazil to win at Wembley, and was named player of the tournament at that summer's Toulon Tournament, which the Mexican under-23 side also won. He has won the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the CONCACAF Cup with his country and led Porto to the league title last season, being named in the Primeria Liga team of the year.

Herrera, who played in four of Mexico's World Cup games this summer in Russia, has made 192 appearances in all competitions for Porto, scoring 26 goals. He was a mainstay of the side that won the title last season, making 29 league appearances, scoring three times and creating five assists. It is believed Porto would accept a bid of above £20m for their energetic, box-to-box midfielder.

But he's got no pace though and is he really a good enough CB for the premiership?

Hmmmm.  Didnt think of that.Surely one would be cover for the other though in case of injury , because whatever happens we need  a proven CB desperately.
