UK embassy in Montenegro rejected my visa application. Main reason was - they are afraid that I wouldn't come back to Montenegro.  080.gif  So I didn't go, of course. That was one of the biggest disappointments ever.  :protest card: I needed a moth to get over it.

I've never understood why any government would not allow it's citizens to travel. Smacks of the old Russian socialists. Probably just my American naivete. Suitable, since this is Memorial Day when we remember all those that sacrificed so we Yanks can be naive. We're damn lucky if you ask me. General George S. Patton once said " It is foolish to mourn for those that have died. Give thanks that such men lived!"   starsnstripes

Its that I did and others didn't.

I think you misunderstood; it was the UK embassy which refused his application not his government. As far as Americans are concerned it's a shame we can't ask Paul Robeson what he thinks.

I did misunderstand. I thought it was his country. My apologies.
As to Paul Robeson, interesting you had to go back 60 year to come up with something like that.

I only mentioned Robeson as he was one of the most famous. I really don't want to get into an argument with you as the U.S. isn't really that bad; I was just making a point. But on a more recent slant until last year Americans wanting to travel Cuba was another example.

Isn't Cuba still off limits? Have I missed something. It shouldn't stop me as I have a Eu passport so I could easily fly in from Europe bit that is a but of an inconvenience. Can I fly from the US now? Always wanted to go to Cuba but I don't want to get 1000 questions in US passport control because I have a funny stamp in there.
If you wake up in the morning and nothing hurts, you are most likely dead

From what I understand, the easiest way to Cuba is through Mexico. I don't doubt many of the island nations would provide an option as well.
I wouldn't try it from Miami, the educated Cubans all live there since, had they stayed, well, Che would have put them upagainst his wall.
Once that bunch of thugs is gone, I'd love to go to Cuba.

As to the other, 60 years to find a famous one? Come now.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

I think you will find that Obama eased the restrictions for exiled Cubans last year but it still isn't universal and you will have to have a special licence.

FatFreddysCat

From the admittedly few people i know that have been to Cuba it has been reported as a bit of a crap hole.
