To be fair, can anyone blame Cahil not coming? He'll find a longer term contract at a more settled club. Whats the best scenario he gets from joining us. Keeping us up and maybe a 2 year deal or much more likely, he comes to us, we still go down and hes off looking for a longer contract elsewhere albeit with a relegation tag on his CV. I believe the club worked effortlessly on this one but our current position just doesn't cut it.
Of course there is a downside for him coming to us.
At the moment he has a repuation but thats all it is at the moment. He hasnt kicked a ball in anger since last week in November and when hes free in the summer he will have a pick of clubs looking for that ex England player. A promoted team, a lower PL team and if hes downt play they will be looking at him with that great reputation.

If he joins us and ends up showing that the years have caught up with him, hes rusty, slow. Then come the summer will they be banging on his door?  Maybe better for him to sit down, count the money and wait till June and the offers.

Fulham look unlikely to sign Gary Cahill this month having reached stalemate in discussions with the centre-back, Sky Sports News understands.

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11681/11613579/fulham-unlikely-to-sign-gary-cahill-from-chelsea

Fulham offered a 6 month contract and Cahill wanted a longer deal but on circa 100k pw
I'm glad we have not given into his demands then. Last thing we need is another over 30's player on a heavy contract in the Championship just like last time.

So we're going to the Championship are we?😉
Haven't you noticed.

French defender linked:

Mehdi Benatia (CB playing at Juventus).

Would love this, just not sure of how realistic it is for any well known players to come to us. I'm all for an experienced CB that can play deep lines - and I'm surprised we aren't linked with more Italian players who are familiar with that type of football.

Pretty much summed up my thoughts here. Why wouldn't he sit out for a better contract come the summer or, if offered a longer term one now by someone else, go there. Its sh*t but unfortunately, reality. Had we been in a better position, say 17th/16th for a few points in hand then maybe. Annoyingly, there's some top players being made available for right money......

And would almost single handedly fail FFP for us ..  which is why Schurrle 100k pw... Seri 80k pw and Anguissa 65k pw will all have to go and more sadly Mitrovic who's on I think 80k pw

Schurrle's on a 2 year deal. Hopefully there's clause about relegation should it happen

Report: Fulham make ambitious enquiry for Juventus defender Medhi Benatia

https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2019/01/21/report-fulham-make-ambitious-enquiry-for-juventus-defender-medhi/

Fulham have made an enquiry for Juventus defender Medhi Benatia, report Italian website Tuttomercatoweb.

Well connected boss Claudio Ranieri is behind the move, as he looks to strengthen the team's defence.

Fulham are adrift at the bottom of the table after slipping to a narrow 2-1 home loss to Tottenham.

Benatia has made only six appearances for Juventus this season.

The 31-year-old Moroccan has been at Juventus since joining from Bayern Munich in 2017.

Tuttomercatoweb's report does not discuss Juventus' stance regarding Fulham's enquiry for Benatia, but it does say the defender wants to be playing regularly.

He has not featured for the Italian champions since November 11.

Benatia would be a terrific signing for Fulham if they could pull it off and help their uphill task to avoid relegation.

Ranieri has come out and said we need players with Premier experience.

Ranieri is going to be the draw for players I feel, he is a big name in management and hopefully players who otherwise wouldn't may come to play under him

Ultimately, unless a player also fancies a potential stint in the championship, the conversation will generally go 'go to fulham, they have a great ground, brilliant facilities and a renowned manager....' 'awesome, but whats the catch?' 'they're almost certainly relegated and you might have to play in the second tier of english football' 'no thanks.' Based on most players I feel we need in this window anyway.

Someone make up a rumour of a signing, this is getting boring.😠

Benatia not in the Juventus squad for their match today, but still unlikely it has anything to do with us

..FOF..

Benatia wanted to leave Juve.

Considered to be Africa's best 11

Our competition if we are getting him are Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04, Milan, Marseille and Al-Ittihad.

Cahill could also look at coming to Fulham as a chance to  show what he can do, after languishing in Chelsea's reserves.
Imagine if he helped save us.

I believe Cahill is one player who would and could contribute in saving our membership of the Premier League. Accompanied by a couple of other key players to add to our current playing staff.

id have us sign him waiting in the wings. looks a great talent that could be ideal if we are relegated or has the potential to grow should we stay up

Absolutely agree. Would be a great signing regardless of what division we play in next season.
