I know I shouldn't on here but what a bunch of false , back slapping creeps.
1975 just leaving home full of hope

I am afraid I am a complete hypocrite about this. I can't stand award shows or The Oscars and never watch them. But talk about The Oscars from the Thirties to the Seventies or any biography about old Hollywood or Music Hall or old British films and I am happy to pontificate for hours. Much like football or any sport.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Until we have Oscars for plumbers, builders, bank clerks, bus drivers, draughtsman, shop keepers, nurses, teachers etc., etc., I have no time for the whole thing.
In fact I think the winners should be made t do a weeks community service in way of apologising.

I coincidentally saw the winner Green Book the other day, because my wife wanted to see it.

I had no idea if I'd like it, but I thought it was completely brilliant. It really moved me, and I found it powerful, and uplifting in the end.

Totally right -  brilliant film that really moved me.
No time for the Oscars though

I haven't watched them in years but the Mrs was all hopped up about Bohemian Rhapsody so being a typical husband I just said "yes dear ". I found it the most political correct BS I have ever seen. Every group got an award and all the "important" reasons why a movie or actor is good won out. You know race, gender, orientation and whatever other victim group is out there won. The ads were highly polished and segued from the Oscars message of inclusion into their own repeat of the same message. They criticized walls and immigration controls while zipping across the red carpet to their limos which then took them to all the gated parties and then their gated homes.
The socialist elites on display.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

We saw the Favourite and that was brilliant. They all deserved an oscar!

I concur. I just hope the plumber, builder, bank clerk, bus driver, draughtsman, shop keeper, nurse, teacher Krzysztof won't be deported before the Oscars. After all, if it wasn't for his decisive role in creating the entity raking in the hundreds of millions of dollars for a tenth of the cost, they'd be in a lot of trouble.

I know it's the 'Cool Thing' to say the Oscars are a load of rubbish, but I think they are an okay thing. A bit overblown, and in the world we live in now kind of old fashioned and seems very long winded, BUT still a good thing for the general film industry. I don't think I would have had any interest in seeing Green Book or The Favourite without the buzz about them the last few weeks, and I aim to see both this week.

I only knew that about 3 Billboards movie last year because of the Oscars and Bafta Buzz last year's, and very glad I did as it is an awesome movie, for example.

I think our Baftas has surpassed them now in presentation and feels more modern, oddly, but the Oscars will always be a little bit special and feels like the end of the awards season (not just in film, pretty much all fields except sport) and a kind of final goodbye to the previous year.

I also think in recent years, maybe since The Dark Knight didn't get nominated, that the nominated movies and selections are better and more interesting so worth following.

Now the BRITS (music awards) on the other hand.... What a pile of shoepolish.

Saw Green Book today, thought it was rubbish. Only good thing was the music. Very dull, I was surprised by how bad it seemed to me, and Viggo was just really irritating to me with his Sub Sopranos schtick.

Matt10

Enjoyed it. Watch it every year for I'm not sure how long now. It's more nostalgia than anything, but the strength of the awards is still an appreciation for movie categories that you ordinarily do not think about. I actually didn't watch any of the movies though, other than Black Panther, but I can see how they are considered the best nominees and award winners. Until next year!

Well said, Lighthouse, since I empathise with what you say.
I do believe that sometimes apparent contemporary golden eras pale to commonplace iron pyrites when comparisons are made with what once was.

I think the film industry is there to lift those who feel the need to be uplifted out of the confines of this increasingly unpleasant world so they do provide a service but I think the Oscars have become over bloated. The best one was two years ago when they gave the Oscar to the wrong film. Warren Beattie and Faye Dunawaywith presented 'it' I think before chaos took over.   :005:

It's a piece of fluff like any awards show. Take an interest or not it means not a lot in the long run. It does bring awareness of some films and does bring debate on the merits of the films.
As a film junkie I enjoy it, but within 24/48 hrs it's forgotten and you see what's coming out this week.
