Revealed: Derby, Fulham & Sheffield United battle Aston Villa to sign available PL defender

Sheffield United, Fulham and Derby have joined Aston Villa in the race for free agent defender Todd Kane, Football Insider understands.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Dean Smith's side are in the market to land the 25-year-old, whose contract at Chelsea expires this month.

The Premier League club were keen to keep hold of Kane, but they missed the deadline to take up their option in his contract allowing him to leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer.

Kane enjoyed a successful season on loan at Hull, making 41 appearances in all competitions and chipping in with three goals for the Tigers.

A source with knowledge of the 25-year-old's situation has told Football Insider that his impressive form for the Championship club has brought him on the radar of Villa, Sheffield United, Fulham and Derby as they look to strengthen their squads ahead of next season.

Sheffield United could be in need of a new right-back should they lose Celtic target George Baldock this summer, while Aston Villa are also in the market for full-back reinforcements after releasing Alan Hutton, Ritchie de Laet and Micah Richards at the end of the season.

Fulham are keen to strengthen their defensive options next season as they prepare for life back in the Championship.

Derby boss Frank Lampard is an admirer of Kane having played with him during his time at Chelsea and he fits the bill for them as he is a free agent, with finances set to be tight for the Rams this summer.

16-goal Middlesbrough man interesting Fulham as Parker eyes Mitrovic replacements

By Lee Connor 15/06/2019

Middlesbrough striker Britt Assombalonga is interesting Fulham as they seek potential replacements for Aleksandar Mitrovic.

According to the Daily Star, the Boro star is one of a number of players on the radar of manager Scott Parker as he looks to find a replacement for Serbian striker Mitrovic, who is reportedly on the verge of signing a deal with Spanish side Real Betis.

Assombalonga fired in 16 goals last season for Boro despite a poor season on the whole which saw the club miss out on the top six and manager Tony Pulis lose his job before the end of the season.

The 26-year-old was a £15m signing for Middlesbrough just a few seasons ago, when they raided Nottingham Forest for the former Peterborough man in the hope of him being the answer to their goalscoring issues.

However, despite a decent campaign last year, things have not quite gone as expected overall for Assombalonga, who has struggled at times with a few injuries and failed to consistently reproduce the type of performances which saw him so highly sought after at the City Ground.

Middlesbrough are in the midst of a transition period at the moment, with new manager Jonathan Woodgate tasked with overseeing a summer of change at the club, while Fulham manager Scott Parker is looking to rebuild following relegation last term.

The Verdict

This would be a fine replacement signing for Fulham if they did manage to pull it off, and I don't think we've quite seen the best of Assombalonga just yet.

Fulham will know they need to replace Mitrovic's goals if he does go, and Assombalonga would be ideal.

Goals, pace and plenty to prove mean that the former Forest man will be a more or less guarantee of goals if he does move to the Cottage.

Club offer €1.5m to loan Fulham player, and he's already agreed personal terms

By Nihat Emre Kocaaslan -  16th June 2019

Fanatik report Yeni Malatyaspor are looking to keep Aboubakar Kamara and that they've made their first offer to Fulham for the Frenchman.

Kamara joined Yeni Malatyaspor on loan during the last winter transfer window which was one of the highest profile signings the Turkish club has ever made.

After securing Europa League qualification, they've started their transfer business for next season and their manager Sergen Yalcin wants Kamara in his team for the next campaign.

Subsequently the Super Lig side have made it one of their priorities to get a deal done with Fulham.

Yeni Malatyaspor have reportedly offered a €1.5m loan fee to Fulham to keep Kamara and they've reportedly already reached an agreement with the player on personal terms.

Despite high expectations, Kamara only scored 1 goal for the club in 13 appearances, but wasn't helped by injuries.

Due to his disciplinary problems at Craven Cottage last season it's likely Fulham will be looking to offload him this summer.

'Better options out there' – Fulham eye transfer swoop for Leeds United man: Six Point Opinion

Fulham have expressed their interest in signing Leeds United midfielder, Adam Forshaw according to the Daily Mail.

The 27-year-old made just 19 league starts for Marcelo Bielsa's side last season, as they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

It's likely to be a summer of change at Elland Road, with potential departures on the cards as Bielsa looks to strengthen ahead of next season.

In our latest FLW Six Pointer, we look into this latest transfer rumour in more detail.

Firstly, would Forshaw be a good signing for Fulham?

"There are better options out there for the Lilywhites.

"Forshaw hasn't done much to impress me with Leeds recently, and when I first heard of this rumour, I was certainly surprised.

"He'll be hoping to find regular game time as well, and I'm not sure that Fulham could offer him that with their midfield options already strong heading into next year's campaign."

Would he be a regular starter for the Lilywhites?

"Absolutely not.

"Forshaw hasn't been starting at Leeds in recent months as he isn't good enough to be in starting XI for Bielsa's side.

"Fulham have arguably better options in midfield than Leeds do, so I struggled to see where he would fit in, in Scott Parker's in the 2019/2020 season."

How much is he likely to cost in today's market?

"You're looking in the region of £2m-£3m.

"He signed for Leeds for a fee believed to be in the region of £4.5m, but he's struggled ever since his move to Elland Road.

"There's absolutely no way that the Whites are going to make a profit on him, so they should cut their losses and cash in on him whilst they can."

Are Leeds wanting to sell him?

"They'll surely be tempted to offload him.

"Leeds need to rim the wage bill at Elland Road if they are to make any signings in the summer and Forshaw will be tempted to move on to find regular game time.

"Bielsa already has better options available to him in the centre of midfield, and Forshaw could be one of a number of players heading for the exit door at Leeds before the new season gets underway."

Are there better alternatives out there?

"In a short answer, absolutely.

"I'm not convinced on this potential signing, as I definitely think there are better options out there for Fulham as they look to win promotion back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

"Forshaw has hardly set the world alight with Leeds in recent seasons, and Fulham should look elsewhere to find a new central midfielder ahead of next season."

What will Forshaw be thinking after this rumour?

"He'll be wanting his long-term future resolved at the earliest of opportunities.

"Fulham are a side that are likely to be challenging for promotion next season and he's got every reason to be tempted by a move to Craven Cottage.

"But he'll be wanting assurances of regular game time before considering moving to Parker's side, as he's been used on a rotational basis with Leeds recently."

EXCLUSIVE: Leeds United Make Bid For In-Demand Fulham Youngster

Leeds United have made a 'significant bid' for Fulham's 17-year old starlet Cody Drameh.

Fulham were desperate to keep hold of the latest gem to emerge from their thriving academy set-up but now look set to cash in on him with his contract expiring at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Liverpool are among the Premier League clubs to have shown interest in the England youth international, while recent reports indicated that Drameh was on his way to Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, sources say that Premier League hopefuls Leeds made an offer for the talented teenage defender at Midday today. The decision is in Fulham's hands but Drameh is listing to offers.

Image: PA

Right-back Drameh, who chose football ahead of basketball, was a regular for Mark Pembridge's Under 23 side last season, playing 17 times in Premier League 2.

Fulham are also losing out on Harvey Elliott, the youngest player to play in the Premier League, after he failed to agree a new contract.

Elliott made history last month when he became the youngest player ever to play in the Premier League.

Born on 4 April 2003, he entered the fray as a late substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves and broke the previous record set by former Fulham left-back Matthew Briggs against Middlesbrough 12 years ago.

He will soon be available on a free, however, with Barcelona and RB Leipzig said to be waiting in the wings for the England Under-17 international.

Elliott and Drameh join a long list of Fulham squad members who care considering from the club including Matt O'Reilly, Ryan Sessegnon, Jerome Opoku and Cameron Thompson.

From Portugal: Fulham offer 'on the table' – Player excited with move

It's Portuguese newspaper Record who brings some details on Tuesday regarding Fulham's chase for the Sporting winger Jovane Cabral.

The outlet claims that the Craven Cottage side have put on the table an offer of a loan plus an option to buy the player for €10m.

The 21-year-old is said to be excited about the move, especially at the chance of getting more playing time than he's currently been given at Sporting.

The Lions are also happy to negotiate a player who hasn't been used much, and are only loaning him out in case Fulham accept to pay for his entire wages.

Record don't say how much Jovane makes at Sporting, but English clubs can normally pay a lot more than Portuguese sides, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Back on Monday, we covered reports from the local media saying Sporting would rather sell Jovane on a permanent deal, but it seems Fulham have been insisting on getting a loan first.

Jovane had four goals and eight assists in 21 appearances for Sporting last season. He's a product of their academy, and is protected by a €60m release clause.

Leeds United open talks with Fulham over transfer of midfielder

Leeds United have opened talks with Fulham regarding the sale of Adam Forshaw according to Football Insider.

The two clubs are discussing a potential deal for the midfielder with Leeds looking to decrease their financial output ahead of another season in the Championship.

The London based club are willing to bolster their midfield ranks after being relegated from the Premier League last season.

The 27-year-old cost £4.5million when he signed from Middlesbrough and with another three years left on his deal, this leaves Leeds in a strong position financially as they look to recoup as much of the fee they paid as possible.

Fulham manager Scott Parker is known to want to sign experienced Championship players this summer and Forshaw fits the bill having been a regular first team player at Elland Road.

He made 19 league starts among 32 appearances in all competitions in an injury-disrupted 2018-19 campaign and has played in 44 matches since moving to Elland Road.

Fellow midfielder Kalvin Phillips is wanted by many Premier League clubs but it is believed that Leeds would rather cash in on Forshaw than let Phillips go who was instrumental for them last season as they lost out in the Play Off Semi Final to Derby County.

Leeds boss Marco Bielsa is a fan of Forshaw and his attitude and application but they will need to reinvest in their squad this summer and it is believed they are open to offers for the former Everton academy graduate.

It is vitally important for Fulham that they look to push for promotion next season and the signing of Forshaw would undoubtedly add quality to their squad as they prepare for a long, hard season in the Championship.

Whelan: 'Fantastic' Leeds player could be 'perfect' for C'ship rivals as exit talks underway

EXCLUSIVE

Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw could be the perfect fit for Championship rivals Fulham as talks begin over a move to Craven Cottage, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Elland Road striker exclusively told Football Insider that he saw mistakes start to creep into the 27-year-old's game during the 2018/19 season and that a move away from the Whites could be in his best interests.

As exclusively revealed by Football Insider, talks have taken place between Leeds and Fulham over a permanent switch for the midfielder as the Cottagers look to bolster their midfield.

Whelan says that the former Middlesbrough man has failed to live up to expectation in his year-and-a-half at Elland Road and that while he has great talent in the middle of the park, the move might not have been right for either party.

He told Football Insider: "He hasn't lived up to expectation. He's been in and out of the side last year with Leeds. He was a player who was highly spoken about by Middlesbrough but obviously they let him go for a reason as well.

"I think Adam's got fantastic ability, the way he retains the ball, his passing, we needed a little bit more from him last season. A couple of mistakes crept into his game passing-wise, a bit of slackness.

"If he does go to Fulham then he's going to a very good side, isn't he? Maybe they see him as a perfect fit. Maybe he wasn't for Leeds."

Forshaw has managed to make 44 appearances during his time at Leeds but the Liverpool-born talent does not have a single goal to his name at Elland Road

Of his outings for the Whites, 32 came in the 2018/19 campaign, although he only managed 19 starts as injury curtailed his season.

Spurs target Ryan Sessegnon ready to run down Fulham contract... and join Inter Milan on free transfer next summer

RYAN SESSEGNON is prepared to run down his Fulham contract – and talk to Inter Milan in January.

Sessegnon is a target for Tottenham but they have not yet bid for 19-year-old and have opened the door to Antonio Conte at Inter.

Ryan Sessegnon – who is on duty with England U-21's – could join Inter Milan next summer
The teenager could stay at Craven Cottage next season in the final year of his current deal, then talk to foreign clubs at the start of 2020.

Borussia Dortmund are another foreign club attracted to him costing just £500,000 in training compensation if he moves at the end of his deal.

Spurs have been long-term admirers and are looking at landing him this summer to fight off foreign competition.

He fits comfortably into Spurs' wage structure but they are concentrating on landing Lyon's Tanguy Ndombele before moving onto other targets.

Mauricio Pochettino's pulling power is believed to have given the Champions League finalists the edge in the race for Sessegnon, with the Spurs boss having a track record of bringing through young players.

But Inter will have a massive chance of landing him on the cheap if no deal is agreed in the current window.

Losing Sessegnon on a free would represent a huge blow to Fulham who set his asking price as high as £50million just last summer.

The England U-21 starlet failed to hit the heights many expected as the Cottagers were relegated from the Premier League.

And boss Scott Parker may choose to cash in on the left-sided ace for around half that sum now rather than risk taking an even bigger hit next year.

Fulham plot £20m Newcastle raid as Scott Parker eyes Dwight Gayle to lead promotion charge

FULHAM are preparing to launch a £20million bid for Newcastle misfit Dwight Gayle.

Striker Gayle scored 24 goals last season while on loan in the Championship at West Bromwich.

Now Fulham boss Scott Parker wants the 29-year-old to lead his club's bid to bounce straight back after relegation in May.

Stoke have already offered £20m for former Crystal Palace and Peterborough striker Gayle.

The hotshot's future at St James' Park is uncertain with doubts over manager Rafa Benitez's position.

Parker wants to rebuild his side, and though Fulham are desperate to keep last season's top scorer Aleksandr Mitrovic, the striker wants Premier League football and could still leave.

The Cottagers London rivals Palace and West Ham are both interested in prising Mitrovic away from the west of the capital.

Attacking options Ryan Babel and Lazar Markovic were released by Fulham at the end of last season

While both Andre Schurrle and Luciano Vietto departed at the end of their loan spells, further depleting Parker in the forward department.

Londoner Gayle has another two years of his Newcastle contract left, but the club could look to capitalise on a player who cost them only £10m when he signed from Palace in 2016.

Gayle's goalscoring exploits, as his replacement Salomon Rondon initially struggled at Newcastle, left former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp perplexed by Benitez's decision to loan him out.

"Why on earth did Newcastle let Dwight Gayle go on loan to West Brom? While his replacement Salomon Rondon has not scored in the league, Gayle has eight goals in his last 10 league games," Redknapp said last Autumn.

"Newcastle struggled in front of goal once again in their home defeat by Brighton and the players must be running out of patience with Rafa Benitez.

"Newcastle's players are not as bad as results and performances suggest but they are being hamstrung by their manager's negative tactics."

Furlong set to join Fulham from Shamrock Rovers

Shamrock Rovers' James Furlong is to sign for Fulham, recently relegated from the Premier League.

The left-back, who made his debut against Dundalk at aged just 16 in late April, is understood to have agreed terms and a three-year deal at the London club.

After making his Rovers senior debut away to Dundalk, Furlong enjoyed linking up with the Ireland squad for the European Under-17 Championships.

Furlong recently concluded his transition year in CBC Monkstown. Like regular Ireland international Enda Stevens, he goes to England from the Tallaght club and plays left-back.

There is another Shamrock Rovers and Fulham connection when it comes to left-sided defenders, Hoops' Sean Kavanagh having made 21 appearances for the Cottagers.

It is understood that Rovers will be entitled to compensation for Furlong but he is not on a professional contract with Stephen Bradley's side.

There are also reports that another left-back for the Hoops, Trevor Clarke, is attracting the attention of British sides.

Rovers, who trail the champions by five points, host Dundalk on Friday needing to win to stay in contention in the title race.

Fulham, meanwhile, are planning their pre-season and a potential return to the top flight under Scott Parker, who replaced Claudio Ranieri in February.

Player has 'concrete' offer from Fulham – Cottagers see him has 'ideal profile' for PL return

Needing to make some changes to their squad following their relegation from the Premier League, Fulham are looking to bolster their defence to try and make a swift return to England's top-tier.

One of the recurring names so far has been that of Chema, currently contracted to Levante in La Liga until June 2020.

Having just one year left on his deal makes this summer a good opportunity for a move, and El Desmarque reveal the defender has already received a 'concrete' offer from the Cottagers for his services.

The Spanish outlet explain Fulham see in Chema the 'ideal profile' of a centre-back capable of helping them return to the Premier League.

In fact, with his contractual situation as it is now, El Desmarque state 'everything points' towards the 27-year-old leaving Levante in the summer.

Whether that is for Fulham, however, remains to be seen.

Chema bounced in an out of Levante's first-team last year, making 19 appearances in La Liga, during which he scored two goals.

Fulham and West Brom to battle Aston Villa in race for £8m Premier League striker

Championship promotion hopefuls Fulham and West Brom could be set to go head to head to sign Southampton striker Charlie Austin this summer.

According to the Sun, the Austin will be allowed to leave St Mary's for a fee in the region of £8m, but with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace both reportedly interested in the former QPR man, the Championship duo could face a massive battle to sign Austin.

Austin has been a regular goalscorer over the years in the Championship and Premier League, but has seen injuries curtail his progress in the last few seasons.

Those injuries and lack of form appear to have cost him his place at Southampton too, and he is now looking like he is going to spark quite the transfer scramble as teams look to add goalscorers to their squads over the summer.

Fulham are desperate to land a proven goalscorer with Aleksandar Mitrovic on his way out of the club, while West Brom will be keen to replace Dwight Gayle, who has returned to Newcastle United following his successful loan spell with the Baggies last term.

Austin has only scored 16 goals for the Saints but fired in some 45 goals for former club QPR, and it is this sort of form which will attract him to a number of clubs this summer.

The Verdict

You get the impression this one might just rumble on through the summer don't you?

Austin is bound to attract attention if he is being allowed to leave, and you could make a case for all those clubs mentioned to have a need to sign him.

He'd a massive coup for the likes of Fulham and West Brom though, and if they can beat Premier League teams to his signature, it might just lay down a marker to the rest of the league in terms of summer transfers.
