Reds considering summer move for Fulham defender

Liverpool are considering a summer swoop for Fulham's Cody Drameh, according to reports.

The 17-year-old has yet to make his senior debut for the London-based side but has been tipped as a potential star player of the future.

Drameh is an attacking full-back with explosive pace, so it's no surprise that he's caught the eye of Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds manager will, however, face some stiff competition for his signature, with Eintracht Frankfurt also hovering.

Liverpool have a history of signing and developing young players, with Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold obvious success stories.

Fulham would demand a "reasonable" sum if they were to let Drameh leave.

Match officials confirmed for final day at Fulham

Kevin Friend will be the referee when Newcastle United travel to Fulham on the final day of the season.

Sunday's 3pm (BST) kick-off at Craven Cottage will be the fourth match involving the Magpies that the Leicestershire-based official has overseen during the 2018/19 season.

The others were September's defeat at Manchester City, January's Emirates FA Cup home tie against Blackburn Rovers, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and February's 2-0 St. James' Park success against Huddersfield Town.

He sent off the visitors' Tommy Smith that day - one of three red cards he's shown in 37 matches in all competitions this term. He has flashed 127 yellow cards.

Friend, who has been a member of the Select Group Referees since 2009, has taken charge of a League Cup final (2013) and the Community Shield (2012) over the course of a refereeing career which has spanned three decades.

His first top-flight appointment came in 2009. On Sunday, he will be assisted by Constantine Hatzidakis and Matthew Wilkes. Graham Scott will be the fourth official.

The statistic that is bad news for Fulham as they target immediate return to Premier League

The Cottagers will be hoping for an immediate return to the top flight after being relegated to the Championship.

Teams relegated from the Premier League have around a one in four chance of coming straight back up again, history suggests.

A total of 79 teams were relegated from the top flight between 1992/93 and 2017/18.

Just over a quarter of those, 21 in total, went back up at the first time of asking. That number could increase to 22 if West Brom win the playoffs this month.

It might sound like encouraging news for Cardiff, Fulham and Huddersfield - who will all be hoping that their stay in the Championship will be a short one.

The trouble is, for many relegated clubs, it's anything but.

Teams who fail to bounce back in the first season are much less likely to do so in subsequent attempts.

While 21 teams have been promoted to the Premier League at the first time of asking, only seven were promoted on their second attempt - and only three on their third.

As a result there are now more than enough former Premier League teams to make up an entire division.

A total of 20 current EFL sides were in the top flight five or more years ago.

That works out as 31% of the clubs who were relegated between 1992/93 and 2012/13 (five years ago). On top of that there are another eight clubs who were relegated in the last five seasons who have yet to make it back to the top flight.

Number of teams promoted by seasons after relegation

First season  - 21 (27%)

Second season -  7 (13%)

Third season -  3 (7%)

Fourth season - 5 (12%)

Fifth season - 3 (9%)

Sixth season or later - 12

Number of teams promoted as a percentage of those still in the lower leagues

Season after relegation // Teams promoted

First season after relegation  - 27%

Second season after relegation - 13%

Third season after relegation -  7%

Fourth season after relegation -  12%

Fifth season after relegation - 9%

Sixth season after relegation or later - 38%

Exclusive: Fulham set to name new manager

EXCLUSIVE

Fulham are poised to name Scott Parker as the club's manager on a permanent basis, Football Insider understands.

Parker has been in caretaker charge of Fulham since the sacking of Claudio Ranieri at the end of February.

e could not prevent Fulham from suffering relegation from the Premier League but the former Chelsea and West Ham midfielder has made a positive impact as caretaker manager and overseen an upturn in results.

Parker has guided Fulham to three wins from their last four games and he has received backing from the club's players to be given the manager's job on a full-time basis.

A number of high-profile names have been linked with the vacancy at Craven Cottage, but a club source has told Football Insider Parker is in pole position to land the job after impressing the Fulham hierarchy and an announcement is imminent.

The 38-year-old is keen to keep the Fulham job on a permanent basis and a decision could be made before this weekend's final Premier League game of the season against Newcastle.

Wolves To Face Competition From West Ham & Fulham For Defensive Ace: What Will He Bring To The Molineaux?

According to a recent report by Fotomac (translated by Sports Witness), Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in bringing Besiktas centre-back Domagoj Vida to the West Midlands club at the end of this campaign. However, the same source has revealed that Wolves will face stiff competition from the likes of Fulham, AS Roma, Sevilla and Espanyol in pursuit of the Turkish Superlig defender, who is being priced around €20m, in this offseason.

Fotomac has also claimed that West Ham and Fulham scouts were present to catch the Croatia international in action for Besiktas in their 2-0 defeat away at Galatasaray on Sunday. The 30-year-old rose to prominence due to his stellar displays for Croatia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia last year.

Vida's Remarkable 2018 FIFA World Cup Campaign

Vida put in some commanding displays at the back alongside Liverpool's Dejan Lovren during the tournament which helped the European nation qualify for the latter stages. However, Croatia eventually ended up falling at the final hurdle as they bowed out as the runners-up following a 4-2 defeat versus France in the World Cup final.

The Croat's Struggles At The Club Level

Since then, Vida has struggled to keep up the same level of performance at the club level as he has been mediocre at best for Besiktas this season. The 30-year-old has featured in 35 matches for the Turkish giants this term and has three goals and one assist to his name, More importantly, Vida has made an average of 1.1 tackles, 2.0 interceptions and 3.9 clearances per game in the Turkish SuperLig so far (Stats taken from Whoscored).

However, his defensive contributions have not been good enough as Besiktas have conceded 41 goals in 31 league matches which have hampered their title hopes for this campaign.

What Will Vida Bring To The Molineaux Stadium?

Vida is an old-fashioned centre-half who prefers to clear his lines when under pressure by the opposing attackers. He can also make some important interceptions for his side but lacks the composure required to distribute the ball accurately from the back.

The Croatia international won't fit Nuno Espirito Santo's style of football at the Molineaux Stadium as he is not a good ball-playing defender. However, if the West Midlands outfit are planning to use him as a player to boost their squad depth then it makes a lot of sense as the Croat can be a useful asset in the dressing room due to his vast experience in European football.

Should Wolves Sign Him?

All in all, Wolves should only consider recruiting him if they are looking to increase competition for places within Nuno Santo's team. However, Vida doesn't fit Wolves' brand of football so they might be better of going for centre-backs who will be able to play the ball out from the back.

This 11-goal PL hitman would be an excellent option for West Ham to revive their seemingly dead attack – Agreed?

West Ham Opinion: Why Aleksandr Mitrovic will be a top fit for the Hammers

According to a report from the Daily Star, West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is eyeing a move for Fulham star Aleksandr Mitrovic.

After another mediocre season at the London Stadium, Pellegrini is planning a mass exodus in an attempt to grab a Europa League spot next season.

West Ham could lose as many as seven players at the end of the season, of which three of them would be their current strikers. The Daily Star claims that Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez, as well as Javier Hernandez, could all be offloaded by the Hammers in the summer.

The injury-plagued Carroll is coming to the end of his contract in the summer and West Ham have allowed to let him leave on a free transfer. Carroll's departure alongside Perez and Hernandez would leave Pellegrini with just two recognised forwards in Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio.

Thus, raiding relegated Fulham for Aleksandr Mitrovic would a step in the right direction for the Hammers and Pellegrini should prioritise signing the centre-forward.

Mitrovic, 24, played a pivotal role in helping Fulham win promotion to the Premier League last year. That subsequently saw him make a permanent move to Craven Cottage from Newcastle United ahead of the 2018/19 campaign. He is the Cottagers' top scorer this season with 11 goals, but his goals were not enough to prevent Fulham from going back to the Championship.

Clearly, Mitrovic would love to be in the top-flight and after impressing in an underperforming Fulham side, West Ham surely must hand him a Premier League lifeline.

In the Serbian international, West Ham would get an old-school centre-forward, known for his excellent link-up play and aerial ability. He is neither the quickest nor the skillful of strikers, but he makes it up with his positional awareness inside the box.

Mitrovic is fantastic in the air, and that combined with his intelligence and spatial awareness makes him deadly in the box. Add to his work ethic and desire to help his team defend set-pieces, the former Anderlecht man would be a top fit for Pellegrini's system at West Ham.

Verdict

Mitrovic is too good for Championship football and exiting Fulham in the summer should be a no-brainer for him. That being said, Pellegrini should acquire the Serbian striker's services, which will in turn increase West Ham's chances of achieving their European ambitions next season.

Brighton signing this 24-year-old relegated hotshot would help them survive the PL with ease next season

Brighton opinion: Seagulls linked with Aleksandar Mitrovic – Good move?

According to a report in Leicestershire Live, Brighton & Hove Albion are set to launch a summer move for already-relegated Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Seagulls have tried to bring the Serbian international before too but failed with a bid of £10m. (h/t Leicestershire Live) They have been long-term admirers of the player, who was one of the stars for Fulham in an otherwise disappointing campaign. (h/t Leicestershire Live)

Mitrovic, who first arrived at Craven Cottage on loan from Newcastle United in January 2018, signed a permanent deal with them last summer for a fee that rises up to £27m. (h/t Guardian)

Chris Hughton's men, on the other hand, whose survival in the Premier League was confirmed this past week, are looking to plan for the upcoming season and beyond.

Here's why they would do the right thing by signing Mitrovic:

Seagulls require a goal-scoring striker for years to come

Since their promotion back in the Premier League, Brighton's main man up front has been Glenn Murray.

Seagulls require a goal-scoring striker for years to come

Since their promotion back in the Premier League, Brighton's main man up front has been Glenn Murray.

However, the Englishman is now entering the twilight of his career. His contract runs out at the end of next season when he will be 36 years old.

Hence, it is clear that Chris Hughton's men do need someone who can take the mantle of leading the line and scoring goals on a regular basis.

For that reason, especially with the style of play at the Amex, Aleksandar Mitrovic could be the perfect signing.

The Serbian international is a ruthless finisher, who wins his fair share of aerial duels, can link up play with the attacking midfielders and be a genuine threat from crosses and set-pieces.

Conclusion
All in all, Brighton need a centre-forward and the 24-year-old Mitrovic is the right man for them. They mustn't hesitate in making a move for him this summer.

Related to the stats based article did anybody else hear how we could be part to the worst group of three to be relegated from the Prem and on the next page we are joint favourites with Stoke for promotion. The last point excludes those in the play off. It is going to be a bonkers post season.

Got really angry with the comment "Liverpool have a history of signing and developing young players". They don't, they spot young players who have been developed by other clubs then snap them up for peanuts and hope they make the grade. If they did develop young players they would come through their own academy.
