Sources: Spurs open preliminary talks to sign speed machine who can play multiple positions

EXCLUSIVE

Tottenham have opened preliminary talks about signing Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon, Football Insider understands.

The Champions League finalists have made the left-footed speed machine one of their main summer targets following their London rivals' Premier League relegation.

A Spurs source has told Football Insider that initial contact was made through third parties and now early discussions are underway about how a deal can be structured.

Fulham accept they will be unable to hang on to the 18-year-old academy product, whose contract runs out in the summer of 2020 and talks over an extension have collapsed.

Tottenham have a longstanding interest in Sessegnon, who is predominantly a left-sided attacker but can also play on the right flank as well as at left-back, as he has on many occasions in recent seasons.

It is expected they will table a formal bid for the teenager imminently as they look to make him their first summer recruit.

The England Under-21 international's speed, decisiveness and eye for goal in the final third helped him secure the Championship Player of the Year gong in Fulham's promotion season last campaign.

He has been in and out of the side in 2018-19, scoring two goals and supplying six assists from 38 appearances in all competitions.

Fulham striker Aboubakar Kamara given chance to resurrect career at Craven Cottage following relegation

Kamara was cast out on loan to Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor for the second half of the season ( Getty Images )

Controversial striker Aboubakar Kamara will be given a chance to resurrect his Fulham career by Scott Parker.

Kamara was cast out on loan to Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor for the second half of the season after he was arrested in January on suspicion of actual bodily harm and criminal damage, following allegations of a fight at Fulham's training ground.

Parker wants the 24-year-old to return for pre-season training, when he will assess his squad and weigh up whether to keep him.

Kamara joined Fulham from French club Amiens for £5million in 2017.

Stefan Johansen, who spent the second half of the season on loan at West Brom, will also return to Fulham in pre-season.

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah posts injury update

Man Utd defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is battling for fitness as he fights to be a part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-team plans at Old Trafford.

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has posted an injury update as he continues his rehabilitation after suffering a serious knee injury.

Fosu-Mensah returned to United to undergo rehabilitation last month having undergone knee ligament surgery following an injury he sustained while playing for loan club Fulham.

The 21-year-old posted a short clip to his personal Instagram account on Friday morning which showed him undergoing hydrotherapy treatment as he walked in a swimming pool.

Fosu-Mensah made 13 appearances while on-loan at Fulham this season as the club were relegated back to the Championship following just one year in the Premier League.

Upon his return to Old Trafford in April a club statement from United wished the Dutch defender well on his road to recovery: "Everyone at the club wishes Tim well with his recovery."

Fosu-Mensah's injury brings to an end what has been a turbulent season for him at club level after he struggled to establish himself under any of the three managers at Fulham.

However, despite his lack of involvement it's believed Fosu-Mensah enjoyed his time at Fulham and in an apology to fans following the club's relegation he said: "I want to apologise to all the amazing fans and say I'm sorry I couldn't help keep the club up this season.

"We did all we could but it just wasn't enough. It's a fantastic club and I know you will be back in the premier league very soon."

Ryan Babel and Lazar Markovic to leave Fulham

Fulham have confirmed that Ryan Babel and Lazar Markovic will both leave Fulham on the expiration of their short-term contracts next month.

Winger Babel has been in talks over a return to Turkey with Galatasaray, Sky Sports News understands.

Both players joined in January on contracts until the end of the season but were unable to help keep Fulham the Premier League as they were relegated to the Sky Bet Championship.

Markovic was brought in on Deadline Day in January from Liverpool, whilst Ryan Babel joined from Besiktas on a short-term contract.

Scott Parker previously said he would not hold Babel back from departing Craven Cottage this summer after his deal expired.

Loan players Calum Chambers (Arsenal), Sergio Rico (Sevilla), Andre Schurrle (Borussia Dortmund), Havard Nordtveit (Hoffenheim), Luciano Vietto (Atletico Madrid), and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (Manchester United) have returned to their parent clubs.

Stefan Johansen, who has been on loan at West Brom, as well as Floyd Ayite, Neeskens Kebano, Denis Odoi, Magnus Norman, Mattias Kait, Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson and Jerome Opoku have all had one-year options triggered to extend their deals.

Fulham have confirmed that Ryan Babel and Andre Schurrle are among 15 players who will be leaving the club following relegation from the Premier League.

The Cottagers are preparing for life back in the Championship, after being relegated from the top flight in their first season back in the Premier League, having been promoted via the play-offs one year ago.

In a statement, Fulham confirmed that nine players will leave when their contracts expire this summer, with Babel and Lazar Markovic among them.

Report: Scott Parker makes decision about Aboubakar Kamara's Fulham future

Aboubakar Kamara scored three goals in just five Premier League starts for Fulham before joining Super Lig outfit Yeni Malatyaspor on loan.

Fulham manager Scott Parker is willing to hand striker Aboubakar Kamara a fresh start at Craven Cottage next season, according to the Evening Standard.

The Cottagers will be playing Championship football once again in 2019/20 after their return to the Premier League ended in relegation.

And Fulham fans could be watching a very different team by the time the new campaign kicks off with the West London side likely to be either unwilling or unable to hold onto some of their biggest names.

Aleksandar Mitrovic is one of those all-but certain to leave with West Ham United and Crystal Palace interested, according to the Standard.

And the same publication claims that Parker, who was announced as the club's permanent manager this month, will hand Kamara a clean slate as he looks to ensure Fulham have plenty of firepower in the second division.

A £5 million signing from Amiens in 2017, the 24-year-old scored three times in five Premier League starts before a high-profile falling out with Claudio Ranieri led to him joining Yeni Malatyaspor on loan in January.

Kamara failed to score in eight Super Lig games, however.

Fulham striker Mitrovic wanted by Everton

Everton want Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Fulham face the prospect of losing some of their best players following the club's relegation back to the Championship – and Everton are looking to take Mitrovic, 24, to Goodison Park.

Mitrovic scored 11 Premier League goals in a struggling side, having previously played a key role in helping Fulham win promotion while on loan from Newcastle, who sold him to the Whites last summer.

He has scored a total of 23 goals in 54 appearances for Fulham, who finished a troubled season second from bottom of the table.

Meanwhile, Fulham have confirmed the departures of Ryan Babel and Lazar Marković following the end of their short-term contracts.

And Andre Schurrle's two-year loan from Borussia Dortmund has been cut short.

The club have also activated options to extend the contracts of Floyd Ayité, Stefan Johansen, Neeskens Kebano and Denis Odoi by another year.

Options have also been triggered to extend the contracts of youngsters Magnus Norman, Mattias Kait, Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson and Jerome Opoku by 12 months as well.

Everton very interested in signing Aleksandar Mitrovic from Fulham

Everton are very interested in signing Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic this summer, Sky Sports News understands.

Fulham do not want to sell the 24-year-old but the player is understood to want to play in the Premier League again next season.

Everton want to add a new centre-forward to their squad and Mitrovic is high on their list of targets after the domestic transfer window opened on Thursday.

The Serbia international, who signed for an initial £22m from Newcastle last summer, scored 11 goals in 39 appearances as Fulham were relegated after just one campaign back in the top flight.

Mitrovic had been instrumental in their promotion season under Slavisa Jokanovic, after joining on loan for the second half of the 2017-18 season and firing them into the play-offs with 12 goals in 17 Championship games.

Everton want to sign him and are also understood to be in the market for a new winger, central midfielder, centre-back, right-back and backup goalkeeper for Jordan Pickford, Sky Sports News understands.

Everton have failed to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku who left in 2017

Everton are reportedly very interested in signing Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Whites striker scored 11 goals from 39 appearances this season but couldn't prevent Fulham from dropping back into the second tier after a single campaign back in the top flight.

Mitrovic has impressed in a squad that has largely underwhelmed and according to Sky Sports News, he is eager to remain in the Premier League next season.

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is reportedly a transfer target for Marco Silva's Everton

Fulham are not keen to sell but according to the report, Marco Silva's Everton interested in acquiring his services.

The Toffees have struggled to find an adequate replacement for Romelu Lukaku up front, who left for Manchester United in 2017.

Cenk Tosun, who was signed from Besiktas last summer, has not hit the heights that were expected of him and the club have made signing a new forward a top priority.

The club are also interested in signing a new winger, a central midfielder, a centre-back, a right-back and a backup goalkeeper to Jordan Pickford, according to Sky Sports News.

Manchester United contact Fulham over Ryan Sessegnon deal
Tottenham and Juventus also keen but United only club to have made approach so far.

Ryan Sessegnon has attracted interest from Manchester United

Manchester United have made initial contact with Fulham over the potential signing of Ryan Sessegnon, Sky Sports News understands.

Tottenham and Juventus are also understood to be interested in the youngster, who will turn 19 on Saturday, but United are the only team to have approached Fulham so far.

Sessegnon is understood to be reluctant to play another season in the Championship following Fulham's relegation after just one term in the top flight, and United want to add young home-grown talent to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad.

And there is understood to be an acceptance at Fulham that the time maybe right to let Sessegnon move on, especially given he has just one year remaining on his contract.

Sessegnon had a difficult first season in the Premier League, having been instrumental in Fulham's promotion campaign of 2017-18.He was in and out of the side under Claudio Ranieri, who succeeded Slavisa Jokanovic last November, and played on the right-wing under Ranieri's successor Scott Parker to accommodate Ryan Babel.

Despite this, Sessegnon remains one of the most sought-after young players in England, with more than 100 senior appearances to his name at just 18 years old.

Sessegnon is a product of Fulham's successful category-one academy along with his twin brother Steven, and has represented England at every youth level from U16 to U21.

Ryan Sessegnon, a signing Tottenham must make

After an inconsistent season with Fulham, the young fullback/winger is looking to move on, with Tottenham the front-runners to land Ryan Sessegnon.

He made 35 appearances in the Premier League this season, operating all over the park for the eventually doomed London side. Sessegnon was not at fault for Fulham's demise, contributing six goals and two assists, equating to 23 percent of his club's league goals. That, though, shows just how anemic Fulham's offensive output was.

Mainly a left winger, Sessegnon also deputized heavily at left back, two positions where Spurs need reinforcement. Still 18 years old until tomorrow, May 18th, he is a highly rated, dynamic prospect, regardless of the difficulties he faced in his first Premier League campaign. With rumors of Danny Rose's possible departure rampant, Tottenham are in the market for another left back, and Sessegnon fits the bill.

However, with his contract set to expire next summer, Fulham will not want to lose out on a transfer fee and will probably look to sell to a top PL club for top dollar. Transfermarkt puts his value at around $39.9m, but Spurs and Daniel Levy will look for a discounted rate. Fulham, however, have reportedly set an initial asking price of £40 million.

Spurs have had a longstanding interest in Sessegnon, with him previously turning down a move to North London. He preferred to stay with Fulham and was a key reason the west Londoners achieved promotion in 2018.

While interest from Manchester United, PSG and Juventus is heating up, Tottenham are still the frontrunners.

According to BBC's David Ornstein, Spurs want to complete the signing soon, and prefer him in a left back role. Ornstein reports, however, that Tottenham have not made a formal bid yet.

Sessegnon's versatility bolsters highly his market value. His best current position is farther forward, but he can easily drop deeper, much like Rose did when he first arrived from Leeds.

He also offers more in attack than Rose and Ben Davies, a crucial facet to the club's playing style. This season the fullbacks weren't always positive in the final third and a change is needed for improvement. Whether on the wing or in defense, Sessegnon can be a difference maker, as he was in the Championship two seasons ago.

Ryan's twin, Steven, is also plays for Fulham and there are quiet rumors he could be part of a deal to bring them both to Spurs.

Tottenham must match their accomplishments this season with an ambitious and active transfer market. Having not signed anyone since Lucas in January 2018, new players are needed to keep the squad fresh and competitive.

Completing this signing could push the club on this summer, bringing even more success next season.

Evolution Of A Role

Calum Chambers' best performances for Fulham came after he was moved into a more advanced position.

This first happened in Slaviša Jokanović's final match as Head Coach at Anfield, and he impressed so much in the middle of the park that Claudio Ranieri and Scott Parker kept him there for the remainder of the campaign.

Central midfield is arguably the most variable position on a football pitch, and so we asked the on-loan Arsenal man how it differed for him under each boss.

"Slav in the first game at Liverpool basically wanted me to help out the back four and try and add a bit of solidity to the midfield," Chambers explained.

"He wanted me to get myself about, try and break up play, try and protect and stop the ball going into the strikers. It was a very defensive role I was playing.

"That was for one game, and then with Claudio it was very similar in the sense that I was the deep man, holding, breaking up play. Then when I get the ball, one or two touch and give it to the boys in front, play channel balls, or give it to the striker and hold my position, basically as a break up man.

"And then with Scotty... When I play in midfield, sometimes I like to try and get forward, make runs in behind and things like that. Obviously Scotty has been here the whole time and I think he's seen that in training and a couple of times in games.

"So once he'd taken over he encouraged me to do that more, because he sees it as one of my strengths, making runs in behind and breaking forward when I can.

"With Scotty it's been more of a box-to-box role if you like, getting myself about and trying to help out with the forwards. It's evolved in that kind of way throughout the season."

Having excelled in what is largely a new role for the 24-year-old, does Chambers now see midfield as his favoured position?

"We'll see what happens," he said. "It's definitely added a string to my bow. It's been a great experience for me playing in that position.

"Now when I play centre-back I'll appreciate more what the midfielders have to go through and it will help me realise what pass they want or where they want me to give them the ball, so it's definitely been a great experience and added to my game."

West Ham fans will be concerned as Everton enter Mitrovic picture

OPINION

The striking department at West Ham United is clearly going to be an area of focus for the club this summer, and Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is evidently a serious target for them.

The Daily Mirror reported last month that the Hammers were eyeing the Serbian after an impressive season with the struggling Cottagers.

However, the club's chances of bringing the 24-year-old to the London Stadium took a hit on Friday, when Sky Sports reported that their Premier League rivals Everton are very interested in signing Mitrovic themselves this summer. That will be enough to have the West Ham faithful biting their nails.

The player himself is said to want to remain in the Premier League, but Fulham don't want to sell him. This, then, could turn into a bidding war between the two top flight veterans.

If that happens, West Ham could be in trouble. Claret & Hugh reported in April that Manuel Pellegrini will get an initial £30million to spend this summer. If that's the case, then it's going to be unlikely that the Hammers will be able to beat Everton to Mitrovic's signature.

The Toffees have spent plenty of money in recent years, as have West Ham of course, and you'd fancy them to beat any Premier League team outside the top six in a transfer battle.

Marco Silva will likely be able to offer more than £30million for Mitrovic, which makes it rather unlikely that the former Newcastle United man will end up in east London.

Pellegrini will need to get in some striking help this summer with Andy Carroll out of contract and uncertainty raging over Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez. However, it now doesn't appear as if Mitrovic will be the man for them this transfer window.
