Ryan Sessegnon snubs Man Utd - but there's a problem with Tottenham switch

RYAN SESSEGNON looks set to join Tottenham this summer after snubbing a switch to Manchester United.

Sessegnon, 19, is heading out of Fulham following their relegation from the Premier League.

But it appears he’s set for a stay in London rather moving elsewhere in England.

Sessegnon has long been a target for Tottenham and they are now in the box seat to get a deal done.

That’s after a switch to Manchester United was snubbed by the talented youngster.

The Sunday Express reported yesterday that United made their move for Sessegnon first, but their official approach was rebuffed by the England Under-21 international.

He’s more interested in heading to Tottenham, but a potential issue is sorting a fee for the left-back, who can also play on the wing.

Fulham want a mega £45m for him, but Spurs are only looking to pay around £22m.

Sessegnon wouldn’t be drawn on his future when asked earlier this season.

”I’m still a Fulham player, contracted until 2020," Sessegnon said.

"So I'm still a Fulham player and in terms of that, that's all I can say at the moment.”

Mauricio Pochettino has hinted his future at Spurs will be in doubt if he's not given cash to splash this summer.

“I am not open to start a new chapter with no plan, with no clear idea, with not being transparent, telling you and telling our fans what’s next, what is our objective,” he said.

“I know very well how this business works. And we know very well that we need to operate in a different way – that doesn’t mean to spend more or less money.

“But if we expect every season to be in the final of the Champions League because it is our plan, we need to create a plan. And the plan maybe is different to what has happened in the last five years.

“And if we believe that if we operate in the same way that we have operated in the last five years we are going to be every season in the final of the Champions League, and we are going to be every season in the top four and competing against projects like Liverpool or Manchester City or Manchester United, I think we are very naive."

Tottenham yet to approach Fulham for Sessegnon – could swoop after Under 21 Euros

Tottenham have been heavily linked with Ryan Sessegnon but are yet to make an approach.

Tottenham are yet to approach relegated Fulham over the signing of Ryan Sessegnon, according to a report by Football.London.

They report that the teenage trickster is expected to join Spurs this summer but that there has not been an official offer about the move across London yet.

And he is now getting ready to represent the England Under-21 side at the European Championship this month, where Aidy Boothroyd’s Young Lions have a real chance of success.

The report says that Spurs could wait for that to be over and then make their swoop, perhaps wary of how difficult it it to seal a move for a player who is at a major tournament.

The lack of a summer major tournament should make recruitment more straightforward for the elite sides but Spurs have still seemingly somehow managed to hit that stumbling block with Sessegnon.

Given how long ago the talk started, the fact that the player has been relegated with one year left on his contract, grew up in London and knows Tottenham have a manager who will give him opportunities, it is tempting to wonder how Spurs haven’t tied Sessegnon down already.

That’s especially pertinent given that he’s now off at a tournament. Tottenham make a habit of doing deals late to try and get the best value but they need to snap out of that and Sessegnon would have been the ideal place to start.

Former Bristol City defender's release from Chelsea sparks scramble with Aston Villa, Derby County, Sheffield United and Fulham all interested

He spent time on loan at the Robins

Todd Kane has been released by Chelsea.

The 25-year-old defender spent a two-month loan at then-League One Bristol City in the 2014/15 season, making just seven appearances before returning to Stamford Bridge.

Kane must have impressed at the Robins, as he was immediately sent back out on loan - this time to Championship side Nottingham Forest.

However, he has failed to make the grade at Chelsea and, after 18 years at the club stretching back to under-8s level, he has now been released.

The news has sparked a scramble for his signature, with a number of clubs said to be interested in signing him.

Football Insider report that Aston Villa are the front runners in the race, but that Sheffield United, Fulham and Derby County are all keeping tabs on his situation.

Chelsea were reportedly keen to keep hold of Kane but missed the deadline to take up their option of extending his contract, meaning he is now set to leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer.

Kane spent last season on loan at Hull City, enjoying a successful campaign in which he made 41 appearances and scored three goals.

His impressive form has caught the eye, with Dean Smith keen to add a right-back to his squad after releasing Alan Hutton, Ritchie de Laet and Micah Richards.

‘I just can’t see it’ – Second chance for 24-year-old at Fulham? Opinion

Fulham manager Scott Parker will be preparing for life in the Championship next season, with a second chance for striker Aboubakar Kamara on the cards after he returned to Craven Cottage, having completed his half-season loan at Süper Lig club Yeni Malatyaspor, as reported in The Sun.

Kamara, 24, had a turbulent spell at Fulham prior to his loan move but it appears he’s set to be given a fresh start next season.

So with this in mind, do you think Kamara will feature a great deal for the Cottagers next season?

We discuss……..

Kealan Hughes

“I think a lot depends on what happens with their other strikers, particularly Mitrovic.

“Last year in the Premier League Kamara showed he can be a real handful but lacked that touch of quality and composure.

“If he improves that side of his game he could become a real force in the Championship.”

Gary Hutchinson

“I just can’t see it.

“He’s got the quality and ability, but Fulham need to freshen up a bit.

“They really blew their chance, didn’t they?

“One minute they had an exciting young team poised for top flight, but mass changes ruined that.

“Can’t see them bringing Camara back into the fold.”

Toby Wilding

“I can see him being used more regularly.

“Kamara did feature quite a bit the last time Fulham were at this level, which could make him an option for them again this time around.

“With interest in Mitrovic seemingly inevitable, Fulham will need someone to step in and lead the line, and this may be Kamara’s chance to prove he can do that.”

George Brooks

“I think he’s got a chance, Scott Parker wouldn’t have brought him back to Fulham if he didn’t plan to use him somehow.

“Fulham will probably need a new striker for next season, as it’s difficult to see them keeping hold of Aleksandar Mitrovic in the summer.

“Kamara is a decent player and has plenty of experience in the Championship.

“How much of a role he plays will probably depend on whether Fulham keep hold of Mitrovic or make any new signings.”

6.5 aerial duels won per game, 11 goals: The influential figure that Fulham will struggle to replace if summer move goes ahead

Fulham are preparing for life back in the Championship and it’s going to be a huge summer for the club as they look to build a squad that can compete for promotion.

The risk they took 12 months ago, where they went out and essentially bought a new team, backfired spectacularly and moving on those players will be a priority.

Despite their struggles in the top-flight there will also be some players who will be attracting interest that the Cottagers don’t want to sell.

And, one of those is striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has already been linked with a move away.

As our graphic shows, he was one of very few bright spots for the Londoners last season, with his 11 goals a very respectable return in a struggling side.

Yet, the Serbian brings much more to the side than just goals too, with his strength and power ensuring that he can disrupt the opposition and link play with his back to goal.

His aerial ability is evident with the duels he wins per game and it allows Fulham to go more direct at times when they need to.

Prior to joining permanently a year ago, the former Newcastle man had a loan spell at Craven Cottage and his signing was the catalyst for their promotion push under Slavisa Jokanovic.

12 goals in 20 appearances show that Mitrovic can thrive in the Championship and few would dispute with the idea that he would easily be the best striker in the league if he stays.

So, whilst offers are inevitable and the player will probably be open to a move, if Fulham are serious about making an instant return to the Premier League then they need to resist offers for Mitrovic who can fire them to promotion.

Spurs ready bid for £50m England starlet linked with Liverpool, Man Utd

Tottenham are getting ready to launch an official first bid for Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon, according to the latest reports.

Sessegnon’s current contract at Craven Cottage runs until the end of the next season, and they risk losing the 18-year-old for free in the summer of 2020 if he refuses to sign a new deal.

Speculation has since been rife that Fulham are keen to cash in on the England Under-21 star this summer and there will be plenty of interest in the versatile left-footed player.

Reports have claimed that Manchester United and Liverpool have both compiled ‘detailed scouting reports’ on Sessegnon ahead of a potential swoop, but Spurs seem to be the most serious suitors.

Now, a report from football.london states that the north London side are plotting an official bid for Sessegnon, but could wait until England U21s have finished their campaign at the European Championship.

Fulham will apparently demand in the region of £50million to sell this summer and could spark a bidding war given the clubs interested, but Spurs are not likely to open with an offer of that amount.

When Sessegnon was asked about his future at Craven Cottage he was far from convincing.

“I’m still a Fulham player, contracted until 2020,” Sessegnon told Sky Sports News. “So I’m still a Fulham player and in terms of that, that’s all I can say at the moment.”

Crystal Palace Keen To Snap Up Fulham Star, Face Ligue 1 Competition

Crystal Palace are looking at a deal to sign midfielder Jean-Michael Seri from Fulham, according to the Guardian.

Seri made waves during his spell at Nice and almost moved to Barcelona, but the Blaugrana preferred other options and he joined Fulham in the summer of 2018.

But the Cottagers' relegation from the Premier League this season means Seri could be on the move and he has an admirer in the shape of Palace boss Roy Hodgson.

Now Crystal Palace are looking to do a deal to take the Ivory Coast international on loan for the season.

However, Seri is not without other options and is also attracting attention from Ligue 1 side Monaco.

A switch to Monaco would mean a return to a familiar environment in the shape of the French top flight, but Seri may not want to call time on his England spell yet.

He clocked 32 appearances in the Premier League for Fulham last season, scoring once and providing three assists.

Fulham have Seri locked down on a contract at Craven Cottage until 2022.

Newcastle could make a statement to Rafa Benitez with move for wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon

Reports in London claim that Tottenham Hotspur are confident of signing Fulham’s talented teenager Ryan Sessegnon this summer, but he is a player Newcastle should be looking at.

The football.london website claims that Spurs have yet to enter talks with Fulham, or the player, despite their interest.

Newcastle, who love to buy young players who can increase in value, are still trying to convince Rafa Benitez that he should stay at St James’ Park for the long-term.

A move for someone like Sessegnon would show Benitez that, although they are serious about sticking to their transfer policy, they can build a squad capable of challenging the top 10 while doing so.

It would also be a sign that the money is there for signings that will smash the Magpies’ current transfer record, should the right player become available.

Competing with clubs like Spurs would be tough

Obviously, it would be hard for Newcastle to compete with the likes of Tottenham for a talent like Sessegnon, with the player already living in London, and Spurs being able to offer Champions League football.

But what Newcastle could offer – that even Spurs may not – is guaranteed first team football, and the opportunity to develop under Benitez.

Sessegnon is entering the final year of his deal, and that, coupled with the Cottagers’ relegation to the Championship, the alleged asking price of around £50 million is likely to now be much less.

We think that this is the type of player that could transform Newcastle from yearly relegation battlers to top-half contenders.

It is up to Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley to show the ambition and prove that the club can compete for top quality signings. The result would hopefully give Rafa the answer he has craved about the club’s vision for the future matching his own.

Palace interested in Seri swoop

Crystal Palace are plotting a move for Fulham midfielder Jean Michael Seri on loan, according to Ed Aarons of The Guardian.

Following Fulham’s relegation from the Premier League, Seri, as well as many other key players, could be on their way out of the club.

It is reported that Palace want to bring the midfielder in on a loan deal from Craven Cottage. However, he is not short of interest from elsewhere.

According to Aarons, Seri is admired by Ligue 1 side Monaco. The Ivorian had time in Ligue 1 before with Nice, where he caught the eye of several prestigious clubs across Europe.

Seri arrived at Fulham for a club record fee of £25 million, joining in a surprise deal as the interest of other top outfits was rebuffed.

Roy Hodgson will be keen to add strength to his Palace side who enjoyed a solid season in the Premier League.
