Palace would be better fit than Spurs for Sessegnon

According to Love Sport Radio, Crystal Palace are interested in Fulham winger and Spurs target Ryan Sessegnon.

What's the deal, then?

The 19-year-old had his first taste of Premier League football during the 2018/19 campaign where he made 35 appearances for the west London side, contributing two goals and six assists.

And many clubs are interested in the young Englishman, with Inter Milan and Liverpool also said to be monitoring him closely.

Reportedly, Fulham value the under 21 international at £45million, but Spurs – with shrewd negotiator Daniel Levy at the helm – apparently believe he is worth just £25m.

And as a result of the lack of progress between Fulham and Tottenham, it is thought Palace may swoop in and steal Sessegnon from right under the Champions League finalists nose.

Sessegnon needs shallower waters before he can swim in the deep end

It is clear he has the ability to be one of the very best players in the Championship – he scored 16 goals and laid on eight assists while in the second tier with the Cottagers.

But there is no way of sugar-coating what was a drastically underwhelming season given he was only involved in eight goals and was even in and out of the team after the Christmas period.

There was definitely a bigger buzz around Sessegnon's name coming off his season in the Championship than there is now, and that would not fare well for him at Spurs.

Let's get it right, Mauricio Pochettino does have a knack of bringing through young English talent.

But that is only the case if you are capable at that high level – look at Andros Townsend, Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, Aaron Lennon, Jake Livermore, Kyle Naughton – all of these were sold by the Argentine.

Inter plot shock swoop for Tottenham target

Ryan Sessegnon, Fulham and England starlet, is largely considered to be one of the future stars of the English national team and has attracted a lot of attention, and a large price-tag, after his confident performances; despite being just 19-years-old.

It had been widely reported that Tottenham Hotspur were leading the race for the Fulham man; with it even being suggested that the North London club were just steps away from completing the signing.

However, reports from English tabloid paper The Sun have suggested that Inter Milan are interested in the young player. Sessegnon, born in 2000, has a contract expiring with Fulham next summer and Inter are reportedly eager to work on a zero-parameter deal for the full-back then.

Sessegnon would fetch a high price if he were to be sold this summer, with Fulham eager to keep ahold of their man or receive around €40-€50m in compensation. However, with a deal expiring next summer, Inter could well swoop and bookmark the Englishman for then.

It is worth noting, however, that The Sun are not the most reliable source of news and, therefore, it would be worth waiting for further reports before committing too much belief in this rumour.

Inter Milan to beat Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur to Ryan Sessegnon?

Inter Milan have reportedly identified Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon as a potential signing in 2020.

Sessegnon has just completed his first season of Premier League football, in which he contributed two goals and six assists from 35 games, but the 19-year-old has just one year left on his contract.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have both been linked with an approach for the England Under-21 international during the current transfer window.

However, according to The Sun, the left-sided player could potentially link up with Inter on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Such a scenario would see Sessegnon spend a year in the Championship, something which would not be regarded as ideal by all three parties.

Nevertheless, Sessegnon will attract widespread offers if he gets to January without penning fresh terms with the Cottagers or another club.

Fulham potentially dealt massive blow with top star looking to see out contract before moving on

Fulham could be set for a bitter blow with the news that Ryan Sessegnon could be preparing to leave the club for nothing in the summer of 2020.

The flying England under-21 winger has long been touted for a move away from Craven Cottage, but with no deal in place and interest in him hotting up, the Sun is reporting that Sessegnon could well just see out this final year of his contract before moving to Inter Milan in Serie A.

Sessegnon has been a target for English Premier League side Spurs in recent times, but Inter's interest appears to have turned the head of Sessegnon that little bit more.

Fulham manager Scott Parker will now face the tough task of trying to deal with Sessegnon's situation this summer, with the player clearly wanting out regardless of if he stays for another season or not.

The Cottagers will be concsious of losing their star talent for as little as £500,000 next summer if he does leave on a free, with Sessegnon clear to talk to clubs from January 2020 onwards if no new deal is in place at Craven Cottage.

The youngster was an integral cog in the Fulham team which romped to promotion from the Championship two seasons ago, but he struggled as part of an out of form Fulham side last season.

The Verdict

What a shame this will be if Fulham lose him for next to nothing.

I think the decent thing here for both player and club is to negotiate some sort of transfer which sees the player get a move a away and Fulham get a good fee for a player who is going to go on and be a star.

Sessegnon's talent is there for all to see, and for the sake of the English game, it would be better to see him land at Spurs rather than be lost to Inter and Antonio Conte.

Spurs fans shocked by latest Sessegnon update

Tottenham Hotspur fans have reacted with shock to a Love Sport Radio report claiming that Crystal Palace have opened talks with Fulham over the signing of Ryan Sessegnon this summer.

The 19-year-old helped the Cottagers win promotion from the Championship in 2017/18 and made 38 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and registering six assists.

The London Evening Standard have previously claimed that the teenager is a major target of manager Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to strengthen his squad this summer.

Nevertheless, Love Sport claim that Palace are the first club to formally register an interest in acquiring Sessegnon this summer.

Spurs, meanwhile, have yet to inform Fulham of their interest.

And fans are stunned at the prospect of missing out on the relegated star, with many believing that chairman Daniel Levy should stop dithering and get a deal done.

Fulham prepared to pay £20m for Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle?

Fulham have reportedly identified Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle as one of their top transfer targets for the summer window.

The Cottagers are back in the Championship after a one-year stay in the Premier League, leaving new boss Scott Parker to put together a squad capable of challenging for promotion.

Parker is said to be keen to keep Aleksandar Mitrovic at Craven Cottage, despite interest in the frontman's signature from England's top flight and La Liga.

However, The Express suggests that Parker is still willing to spend as much as £20m in order to secure the services of Gayle, who netted 24 goals at the second tier for West Bromwich Albion during the most recent campaign.

Fulham may have to wait until Newcastle resolve the future of manager Rafael Benitez as the Spaniard's contract continues to run down at St James' Park.

Gayle still has two years left on his own deal at the North-East outfit.

Welcome to Fulham's wait and see summer

Fulham's players reported back to Motspur Park for the start of pre-season training this morning – and they won't be the only ones wondering what lies ahead. The nucleus of Scott Parker's probable first team knows the Championship well, but it remains to be seen how many of his elite performers will run out in the black and the white at Oakwell in August.

There are so many unknown unknowns. Fulham's summer acquisitions don't usually arrive early and the picture is complicated this year, both by relegation, and the fact that the conclusion of what are usually complicated deals could be predicated on who is leaving Craven Cottage. There is plenty of speculation that many of those who arrived last summer – the likes of Fabri, Andre-Franck Zambo Anguissa and Jean-Michael Seri are searching for new places to ply their trade – whilst the futures of Ryan Sessegnon and Aleksandar Mitrovic, two undoubted assets should they be available to Parker after the transfer window, are up in the air.

Sessegnon, who has a year to run on his current contract, has reportedly already told Fulham he would like to move on. The teenager, whose meteoric rise stalled somewhat as the Whites shambolic return to the Premier League petered out, has long been tipped to join Tottenham, although there are also rumours that he might move abroad on a Bosman. The severity of the hamstring injury he picked up as England's Under-21s crashed out of the European Championships last night might also impact on an impending move. Sessegnon's potential is not in question and, while it would be lovely to see him park personal ambition to remain with the club that gave him his breakthrough, the cut-throat world of professional football doesn't work like that.

Mitrovic's future is even more intriguing. You would suspect that there will be no shortage of suitors for someone who relishes a physical battle and has an eye for goal. He has looked every inch a Premier League for virtually all of his time at Craven Cottage and has a strong international scoring record. The Serbian is on a big-money deal at Fulham, with the club tabling an even more lucrative offer to try and tempt him to SW6, and the Whites would be looking to at least double their money should he head to pastures new. Mitrovic has already proven to be a goal machine in the Championship – although Fulham will certainly need another forward, even if he remains on the books.

We know little about Parker the manager, despite him overseeing an uplifting period in charge towards the end of last season. He is highly regarded in the footballing fraternity, one of the outstanding candidates when he undertook his coaching badges towards the end of his playing career, but does he have the nous to navigate the notoriously choppy waters of the Championship? His tactical acumen must still be a work in progress and a good start in August is a necessity.

The Fulham rebuild, similar to the one that Slavisa Jokanovic conducted a couple of summers ago, is complicated by the fact that the brightest stars from the Fulham academy are being linked with moves away. The couple of appearances Harvey Elliott made from the substitutes' bench late last term don't appear to have been enough to convince him to put pen to paper on a professional contract, whilst Cody Drameh, a highly-rated young right back, looks set to join Eintracht Frankfurt. There remains a doubt over the long-term future of Matt O'Riley, who must be pushing for a promotion into the senior picture, whilst the likes of Luca de la Torre will be wondering whether they will get the opportunity to impress this summer.

The composition of Parker's first team is still a little bit of a mystery, even without new arrivals to add to the mix. Will Marcus Bettinelli recover from injury to reclaim his place in goal? Does Marek Rodak's outstanding form for Rotherham over the past two seasons allow him to usurp the firm fans' favourite? What does Fulham's most miserly back four look like? After a season of chopping and changing on that front to spectacularly poor effect, some consistency would be welcome. Will Cyrus Christie prove the competent Championship right back he appeared on his arrival last January or do the likes of Steven Sessegnon and Marlon Fossey get an opportunity to realise their potential?

The retention of Tom Cairney, a classy performer at this level, was a real boon following relegation. The skipper will prove a key cog in driving Fulham's promotion hopes, but is it as simple as simply reuniting him with Stefan Johansen and Kevin McDonald? Will teams have worked out how to nullify that trio in the year that has passed? Has time taken its toll on McDonald's legs? Or will Parker look to go with a different system as he eyes unlocking opposition defences?

Fulham have been in need of a genuine right winger for the best part of three seasons – it was instructive that Aboubakar Kamara, who appears unlikely to have a future at the club following his spectacular fall from grace in the winter, filled that role in the play-offs. They may require some reinforcements on the left flank too, if Sessegnon departs, and that could see some reinvention of how the Whites attack. Parker has shown that he wants to play with a bit of verve and panache in the Jokanovic style – but what that looks like, and who fills those roles, is obviously still up for debate.

It appears that this is the 'wait and see' period of Fulham's summer. The usual fevered speculation has been replaced by hackneyed rumour-mongering – this morning's papers predict another punt on Dwight Gayle – and with the sports pages digesting another World Cup slip-up by England's cricketers and Wimbledon on the horizon, Fulham will continue to go under the radar as befits our new second tier status. Parker probably won't mind that – his hard work starts on the training ground.

Fulham ready to make move for £10m rated striker

Fulham are interested in striker Dwight Gayle who could leave current club Newcastle for around £10m in the summer window.

The 29-year-old is out of favour at St. James' Park and spent last season on loan at West Brom in the Championship, where he scored a very impressive 24 goals to help the Baggies to the play-offs. However, Albion's failure to win promotion means they can't afford to bring Gayle back.

Nevertheless, the striker could still be heading back to the second-tier, with the Mail revealing that Fulham have shown an interest in the ex-Crystal Palace man who could cost £10m.

They would also have to match the £50,000 a week that Gayle currently picks up with the Magpies on a contract that has two years to run.

The Cottagers will need additional firepower next season as they prepare for life back in the Championship with doubts over the future of current number nine Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Yet, Fulham will face competition for Gayle's signature, with the report also stating that Stoke City are monitoring his situation.

The Verdict

This would be a fantastic signing for Fulham and you have to say that in the current market £10m would be a bargain for someone who has guaranteed goals at this level over the years.

Gayle was brilliant for West Brom last season and managed to hit 24 goals despite not always playing in his preferred position.

With Mitrovic potentially leaving then this would be a superb replacement but if they could somehow keep hold of the Serbian international then Fulham would have a superb pairing.

Even though Gayle would be a significant investment in terms of the fee and then his hefty salary, it would be worthwhile if they secure promotion.

Ryan Sessegnon could leave Fulham for just £500,000 next summer as Spurs target is 'willing to run down his contract and talk to Inter Milan'

Tottenham want to sign 19-year-old Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham this summer
Sessegnon is willing to run down his contract and speak to other clubs in 2020
Inter Milan are keen and could land Sessegnon for just £500,000 next summer

Fulham could lose Ryan Sessegnon for just £500,000 next summer as multiple foreign clubs continue to monitor his situation with a view to pouncing.

The 19-year-old is a long-term target for Tottenham but the London clubs have not yet been able to agree on a price.

Sessegnon would likely cost Spurs around £35million if they pluck him from Craven Cottage before the start of the new season.

Ryan Sessegnon pictured in action for the England Under 21 side against Romania on Friday

But Spurs will want to negotiate that figure down on the basis that Sessegnon has just 12 months left to run on his current contract.

And Fulham may be pressured into lowering their demands as The Sun claim that Sessegnon is willing to run down his contract and then hold talks with Inter Milan in January.

Borussia Dortmund are also said to be keen on Sessegnon, who would be free to talk to foreign clubs in January with a view to making a move next summer.

Worryingly for Fulham, they would only be due £500,000 in training compensation if Sessegnon were to leave for an overseas club a year from now.

Sessegnon could become just the third English player to play for Inter — after Gerry Hitchens and Paul Ince.

Inter will hope to be able to offer Champions League football in the 2020-21 season. They qualified for the 2019-20 competition by finishing fourth in Serie A last term.

Why Ryan Sessegnon should stay at Fulham

Back in May, when it became clearer and clearer that Ryan Sessegnon was nearing an exit from Fulham, I tweeted a thread.

I looked back at the biggest moments in Sessegnon's career to date with Fulham. His emergence into the first-team during the pre-season in Cork. His first senior goal against Cardiff at the Cottage. The brilliant brace at St. James' Park. The play-off semi-final goal. That play-off final assist.

It brought the memories flooding back, the nostalgia of Sessegnon tearing up the Championship at a young age – the joy and pride of knowing Fulham had the best teenager in the country.

But when I turned the page to the 2018/19 season to compile the best moments, the well dried up. A goal against Cardiff (he has a habit of those). A goal against Wolves. Some tidy assists. And that's about it.

What became clear, and what is still clear, is that Ryan Sessegnon is not a Premier League player at the moment. This is not meant as a controversial insult or an attack on the youngster. Far from it.

I truly believe that Sessegnon will be one of the best players in the world in six or seven years. His footballing brain is unparalleled. His movement is next level. His technical ability is excellent.

But we must remember that he only turned nineteen in May. In Sessegnon's first Premier League season, he was largely disappointing. Sessegnon was not the sensation of years past in the second tier. He looked lost. Outmuscled. Out of sorts. Peripheral. Tentative. Weak.

What many seem to forget is what type of player Ryan Sessegnon is. A left-back turned left-winger, Sessegnon never was one to consistently take over matches. He doesn't grab matches by the scruff of the neck, taking on four players at a time and beating defenders at will with silky skills.

Instead, Sessegnon's best quality is his decision-making, his exceptional awareness. His knack for being in the exact right place at the exact right time. His absolutely superb finishing abilities in the box, almost Miroslav Klose-esque, but from a teenager who isn't even a striker. His level-headedness, when the pass and the touch and the strike always seemed to be effortless, perfectly timed, placed, and weighted.

And in the Championship, these skills shone. He could be peripheral for an entire match, yet pop up and slot home a winner and be lauded. But in the top flight, the defences were far less forgiving and uninviting. Sessegnon rarely saw the sight of goal, and when he did, he often fluffed his lines and blew his composure. Remember the costly misses against Everton and Arsenal away? Chances Sessegnon would have easily converted a season before, he seemed bereft of the same finishing acumen in the Premier League.

Opposition defenders bullied him. His touch began to suffer. The final ball failed to materialise.

It was an underwhelming season. And for sure, other factors played a part. For starters, Fulham were terrible. Historically terrible. It can never be easy playing in a side that's so consistently awful that every match forces the attack to try to come back from conceding two or more goals.

Fulham's management didn't help. Slavisa's poor start was exacerbated by Claudio Ranieri's disastrous reign. Ranieri perhaps did the most to destroy Sessegnon's confidence, constantly belittling him as a weak boy in the press, benching him in favour of the underwhelming Andre Schurrle, and throwing Sessegnon to the side when he needed guidance more than anything.

In all, Sessegnon showed he was not ready for the Premier League. For a player who was 18 the entire season, that is okay. His development has been laser-quick and it's understandable for a player of his potential to hit a roadblock.

But to leave SW6 this summer, which appears to be a certainty after Sessegnon rejected a fresh contract, would be a massive career blunder.

Am I arguing for Sessegnon to sign a lifetime deal at the Cottage and play his entire career at Fulham? Of course not, although in an ideal world it would be superb. But Sessegnon should at the minimum stay another year or two at Fulham, continuing his development with consistent first team football in a nurturing environment.

A move to Spurs, which has been mooted, is puzzling at this stage. Sessegnon struggled to start at times in the abysmal Fulham side. How would he fare in a side that just made the Champions League final? Versatile enough to possibly play both left back and left wing, it is hard to see Sessegnon getting anywhere near the first team. Certainly no shot of cracking the star-studded attack. And even if Danny Rose departs, Ben Davies is the far more likely left back option.

Yes, Mauricio Pochettino has an excellent track record of developing young players. But it's exceedingly hard to 'develop' someone if they are hardly on the pitch. Bench visits and bit-part appearances in the League Cup beckon for Sessegnon. What sort of top-class development is that for a 19-year-old?

Sessegnon is at the stage in his career where playing week-in, week-out is most important for his progression as a player. The harsh reality is that the Premier League will not offer Sess a chance to do that next season, or even perhaps the season after that.

As a result, Sessegnon must stay at Fulham. Play one more season in the Championship. Sign on for another year in the Premier League after you help the Whites get promoted. Stand out at Craven Cottage, and then by all means make your career move to a bigger club.

At the end of the day, everyone at Fulham Football Club wants the best for Ryan Sessegnon. The desire to keep Sess at Fulham this summer is not borne out of jealousy. It comes from a sincere belief that a big-money switch now will only harm his career development. I know that one day, Sessegnon will outgrow Fulham and become one the world's best. But if he moves this summer, that day may never come for the Englishman.

'A big sale is best' – Fulham set for decision time over future of Ryan Sessegnon: Opinion

Fulham are set for one of their biggest conundrums of the summer in the coming weeks, with the future of Ryan Sessegnon up in the air.

The England youngster has only a year of his contract to run, and so far has shown no sign of signing a new deal with the Cottagers.

Indeed, today has seen the winger linked with a move away from Craven Cottage in the form of a switch to Serie A with Inter Milan, with the Sun reporting that Sessegnon could indeed decide to run his contract down and move to the Italian giants.

Sessegnon was one of a number of victims of a poor season for Fulham last term, but he thrived in the Championship the season prior, and losing him now would be a bitter blow for the club.

But there is more to this story, with Fulham set to miss out on potentially a massive sum of money if they do indeed allow Sessegnon to stay and leave for nothing come the end of the campaign.

So, what should Fulham be looking to do? Should they sell, or should the keep him and hope for promotion?

We asked our writers here at FLW for their thoughts on what Fulham should be looking to do...

Jacob Potter
"I'm surprised that they haven't decided to sell him already.
"Sessegnon has already voiced his intentions to leave the club, and I it's only a matter of time before he departs I think.
"He's a player that is far too good for the Championship, that's for sure, after he netted () goals last time they were there in their promotion-winning season.

"He's evidently got his eyes set on bigger and better things, and Fulham should be looking at cashing on in him ASAP so that they can reinvest the money into other areas of the squad ahead of next season."
Chris Gallagher
"Without a doubt they should.
"Despite a poor year in the Premier League, the youngster still has a good reputation but if he struggles in the Championship then his value will fall significantly.
"So, they will be better off getting some big money in now and Scott Parker needs to be allowed to reinvest that in the team.
"It's a blow as the England youngster proved in the past he can be a top player in the second-tier but for the benefit of the club, a big sale is best."
Lee Connor
"Surely they have to sell him, surely?
"Letting him leave for nothing is not the way to go, and there's no guarantee they will be promoted with him anyway, so it's a massive risk.
"He's obviously one of the most talented youngsters in the English game at the minute, but he's definitely in some sort of slump as well, which might be to do with having his head turned somewhat.
"Fulham need to sell, get as much money as they can, and re-invest in the squad."

Barcelona signing this 16-year-old English prodigy would be an absolute steal by Valverde – agreed?

Barcelona opinion: Should Barca sign Harvey Elliott?

According to a report from the Sun, Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in signing Fulham wonderkid Harvey Elliott.

The English prodigy has been creating waves since he made his professional debut with the Cottagers, aged just 15. The report also claims that Elliot is reluctant to agree on a new deal with the Cottagers, putting the La Liga giants on alert.

Elliot- a star in the making
A youth product of the Cottagers, it didn't take long for Elliott to break into the first-team – thanks to his wonderful campaign with the U-18 side as well as the reserves.

The 16-year-old bagged a total of 5 goals and 4 assists in all competitions. Being a winger on either side of the flanks, Elliot can also adjust his role as a midfielder.

Why should Barca sign Elliot?
The Catalan kings have hardly had any impactful wide-men in recent years, with the highly-rated Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele failing to recreate the greatness they had at their former clubs.

Malcom, who was bought from Bordeaux last summer, couldn't break into the spotlight despite showing his quality whenever he had his chances. Moreover, the Brazilian also fell down Ernesto Valverde's pecking order due to the immortal presence of Lionel Messi.

Furthermore, Barca's reputation of blooding real talents from La Masia, their youth academy, has been withering over the years as only a handful of players have managed to break into the first-team.

Elliott would be an addition for the Spanish side's prospective future, though the transfer looks uncanny as La Liga doesn't boast any historic significance for English players. Yet, in the case of Elliott, it is possible.

Verdict
Barca missed the chance to sign their former academy prospect and the Japanese international Takefuso Kubo, who the Los Blancos have now acquired.

The Blaugrana shouldn't let their arch-rivals move ahead in the pursuit of Elliott, keeping in mind they would be adding someone to the club's long-term future.

Race For Crystal Palace Linked Jean-Michael Seri Heats Up, Agent Holds Meetings

The race for Fulham midfielder Jean-Michael Seri, who has been linked with Crystal Palace, is starting to heat up.

Fulham are open to offloading the midfielder following their relegation from the Premier League and the 27-year-old is unlikely to be short of offers.

While Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace have been linked with a loan swoop, Seri's agent has been clocking up the air miles on behalf of his client.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Seri's agent met officials at both Napoli and Inter in recent days, while there could also be a meeting on the cards with Roma soon.

There is interest too from France, where Seri shone for Nice, and Lyon and Monaco are keeping close tabs on developments concerning the Fulham star.

Turkish giants Galatasaray meanwhile have already failed with a bid to take Seri on loan.

The Istanbul club were prepared to shoulder all of Seri's salary, but Fulham are holding out to see if they can sell the player.

The Cottagers are claimed to be looking for around €25m to sell Seri.
