2 pros and 2 cons to Fulham snapping up deal for rivals' ace

With preparations already well underway at Fulham for their imminent return to the Championship in August, manager Scott Parker could be about to make his first signing of the transfer window.

According to West London Sport, the 38-year-old is reportedly interested in bringing Ezri Konsa to Craven Cottage as he looks to bolster his defensive options ahead of the upcoming campaign.

As well as being a mainstay in Brentford's side last season, the defender also featured for England in the European Under-21 Championship in June.

If the rumour linking Konsa to Fulham turns out to be true, it is imperative that Parker considers both the positives and the negatives that the 21-year-old could have on the club's fortunes next season before tabling a bid.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros and two cons to the Cottagers sealing a deal for Konsa based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He showed real signs of promise for Brentford during the previous campaign

Having signed Konsa from Charlton Athletic last summer, Brentford benefited considerably from his presence in the heart of defence as a number of fantastic performances during the previous campaign helped the club secure a top-half finish in the Championship in May.

Whereas it is fair to say that the defender is by no means the finished article, he clearly has the potential to become a quality operator in the future and therefore it may be worth Parker taking a punt on him this summer.

He could prove to be a significant upgrade on the club's existing options

When you consider that Fulham conceded a whopping total of 81 goals in 38 games in the Premier League last season, there is a real chance of their defensive woes continuing during the 2018/19 campaign if they do not make any improvements to their squad over the coming weeks.

With the likes of Maxim Le Marchand and Alfie Mawson failing to deliver the goods for the Cottagers since making their arrivals in South West London, bringing in Konsa could turn out be an inspired decision.

By hitting the ground running for Fulham, the defender may very well end up being a significant upgrade to the club's existing options at centre-back.

Cons

He could struggle to cope with the weight of expectations at Fulham

After being relegated from the Premier League in April, Fulham will undoubtedly be looking to secure an immediate return to the top-flight in 2020 which in turn will put a lot of pressure on their players to perform.

Having never been part of a promotion-winning team, Konsa may struggle to cope with the weight of expectations as he does not yet know what it takes to get over the winning line.

Splashing the cash on him may not be a good long-term investment to make

Although there is no doubting that Konsa is already a good player at Championship level, there is no guarantee that he will be to thrive in the top-flight in the future and thus splashing the cash on him may not be wise a decision to make by Parker.

If Fulham do indeed get promoted next season and the defender is incapable of making the step-up in performance which will be required, the club may be forced to loan him out or even sell him for less than they bought him for.

Therefore, in order to avoid this situation from occurring, Parker may find it more beneficial to spend the funds made available to him from owner Shahid Khan on a player who has a proven track-record of producing real quality both in the Championship and in the Premier League.

Football transfer rumours: Ryan Sessegnon to sign for Tottenham?

Today's tell-all shot a man in Reno just to watch him die

Despite enduring a disappointing debut season in the Premier League with Fulham, could Ryan Sessegnon start next season as a Tottenham Hotspur player? Photograph: Eddie Keogh/Reuters

After a two-window hiatus in which they failed to sign a single new player, Tottenham are waving their chequebook about with abandon as they go about reinvigorating an understandably jaded squad for the coming season. The signing of Jack Clarke from Leeds United preceded the loudly trumpeted arrival of Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for a club record £55m on Tuesday and now the Mirror is reporting that Spurs are "highly likely" to bring in Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham. Eager to move to White Hart Lane and with just one year left on his contract, the 19-year-old full-back will almost certainly get his wish once the two clubs agree a fee.

Tottenham are willing to offload England full-backs Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier and Napoli have inquired about the duo's availability. With Trippier, in particular, looking certain to leave the club sooner rather than later, both Everton and Crystal Palace have also been mentioned as possible future destinations. With Toby Alderweireld also likely to be heading for the White Hart Lane exit, Tottenham could offer him to Roma as part of some a swap deal with the young Italian striker Nicolò Zaniolo. Meanwhile in Spain, the club's attempts to thrash out a deal with Real Betis to make a Premier League player of their Argentinian midfielder, Giovani Lo Celso, have reached an impasse as the two clubs are unable to settle on a price.

Fed up with life at Newcastle, Isaac Hayden wants a move to pastures new and could fetch up on the pristine pasture of Molineux. The Northern Echo says the 24-year-old midfielder is available for around £15m and is also wanted by Watford, Brighton and West Ham. According to the Sun, Newcastle have sounded out Belgium's Roberto Martínez to see if he'd consider filling the big boots of their recently departed manager Rafael Benítez.

The word in Portugal is that Miguel Pinho, agent of the Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, is en route to England this morning to discuss the future of his client with representatives of both Tottenham and Liverpool, while reports closer to home suggest he arrived last night for an audience with Manchester United officials. Call the Rumour Mill an old cynic, but it's almost as if nobody really has a clue what is going on.

Resigned to losing Harry Maguire before the transfer window closes, Leicester hope to replace him with the Brighton central defender Lewis Dunk, who could cost them £40m. The Foxes are also close to securing the £40m signing of Youri Tielemans from Monaco after his successful loan spell last season and could complete their summer trolley-dash by paying an eye-watering £30m for Newcastle striker Ayoze Pérez.

And finally, Gareth Bale is beginning to resemble the kind of forlorn stray dog the Rescue Centre is unable to rehome for reasons nobody can quite fathom, as Marca reports that Real Madrid have fielded no inquiries whatsoever about the availability of a player who has very publicly been deemed surplus to requirements at the Bernabéu by his manager.

3 ways Fulham could benefit from cashing in on star

Following what was a dismal 2018/19 campaign at Fulham, manager Scott Parker will unquestionably be looking to offload a whole host of players this summer as he looks to prepare his side for their imminent return to the Championship.

Therefore, it comes as little surprise that Jean Michael Seri has been linked with a move away.

According to News Shopper, Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in the midfielder and are ready to offer the Fulham £20m as Roy Hodgson looks to bolster his squad following the departure of Aaron Wan Bissaka last week.

If this is indeed true, Parker simply has to consider cashing in on Seri who ultimately failed to live up to expectations, after joining the club from Ligue 1 side Nice last year.

Keeping this in mind, here are three ways in which the Cottagers could benefit from selling the 27-year-old...

They could re-invest the money in a goalkeeper

When you consider that Fulham chopped and changed constantly last season between Fabri, Marcus Bettinelli and Sergio Rico, it is glaringly obvious that they need to find a permanent solution to their goalkeeping issues during the ongoing transfer window.

With the latter of the three shot-stoppers rejoining Sevilla last month following the expiry of his loan deal, Parker may find it hugely beneficial to spend some of the money garnered from Seri's sale on a keeper who has a proven-track record of excelling in the Championship.

A significant sum could allow them to bring in some much-needed defensive recruitments

Boasting the worst defensive record in the Premier League last season, Fulham conceded a mammoth total of 81 goals in 38 games as they finished 10 points adrift of safety in May.

Although the Championship represents a step down in level from the top-flight, there is a chance of the club's current crop of players flopping yet again during the upcoming campaign.

Therefore, in order to prevent the possibility of his side faltering in the second-tier, Parker could utilise the cash earned from Seri's departure to add some much-needed quality to his defence.

Seri's absence may allow some of the club's academy players to break through

Whereas it would be naive to suggest that Parker shouldn't re-invest in his squad this summer, the 38-year-old could benefit just as much from looking towards Fulham's academy for inspiration.

Having seen just how big of an impact Ryan Sessegnon has had for the Cottagers since bursting onto the scene in 2016, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that the club could witness the emergence of another star who can go on to adequately replace Seri in the starting eleven.

Tottenham could sell BOTH of their full-backs to fund Ryan Sessegnon move as they consider letting Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier leave

Mauricio Pochettino is a fan of Fulham left back Ryan Sessegnon and wants him
Argentinian manager would be willing to sell current full-backs to bring him in
The 19-year-old's contract at Craven Cottage expires at end of coming season

Tottenham Hotspur could sell both Danny Rose and Kieran Trippier to secure Ryan Sessegnon's arrival, according to reports.

Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of the Fulham left back while Sessegnon is keen on joining up with Spurs and working under the Argentinian manager.

The 19-year-old's contract at Craven Cottage expires at the end of the coming season and he would be willing to run his deal down if he cannot secure a move away this summer.

That means Fulham run the risk of losing him for just a tribunal fee because he is under 21.

Tottenham are only willing to spend £25million on him, as it stands, while Fulham value him at closer to £45m.

Daniel Levy is commonly regarded as a tough negotiator and is not likely to bend on his valuation.

But the Mirror is reporting that Spurs would be willing to sell their current full backs to push for a player who will have a long-term impact.

Napoli and Juventus target Trippier struggled for form last season, which means Pochettino would be willing to let him leave.

Rose is also well aware that he could leave this summer and Spurs may see Sessegnon as a ready-made replacement.

Rose recently said: 'I don't know what the future holds now.

'I'm looking forward to a break. If I'm back at Tottenham next season, great, if I'm not - great. I'll just have to wait and see. It's not about regular first-team football.

'I know my age and I know how the club is run in terms of if you get to a certain age they might look to ship you on.'

Leeds to step up efforts to lure future star to Elland Road after Whites bid rejected – report

Leeds have seen a second bid for Fulham's sought-after Cody Drameh rejected, and are considering a third approach to sign the teenage defender, according to Sky Sports.

The Whites were understood to have been plotting a 'substantial' offer for the 17-year-old in June, as it emerged the Cottagers could look to cash in on their product's intense admiration from around Europe, with Liverpool thought to be one of the leading known admirers.

Drameh had rejected a potential new deal in South West London earlier in the year, after Scott Parker's recently-relegated outfit sought to avoid his potential exit next summer for nothing more than compensation for his development.

Claims were also made suggesting Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt were prepared to host the London-born ace at their facilities for a medical, should he be on offer for a permanent transfer.

However, Sky Sports stating in their Transfer Centre (June 3, 13:15) that Fulham have rejected our approach would give reason to believe the Cottagers intend to retain Drameh's services, after he featured in 25 fixtures across their Under 23s and U18s last term.

A third, more substantial, offer could twist their arm in our favour, though, while the reported negotiations between United and Fulham over Adam Forshaw and the Cottagers' speculated interest in Pontus Jansson may play their part in our bid to add another sought-after talent to Carlos Corberan's Whites youth ranks.

Wolves are now reportedly facing competition for £12m player

According to West London Sport, Fulham are interested in signing Ezri Konsa from Brentford in the summer transfer window, meaning that Wolverhampton Wanderers are facing competition for the defender.

It has been reported that Fulham – who will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League – are interested securing the services of the 21-year-old defender this summer.

The England Under-21 international is one of the best defenders in the Championship, and he will be a very good signing for the Cottagers, as the London club aim to clinch automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

Wolves, though, are also reported to be interested, with The Times claiming that the Wanderers are set to secure the services of the youngster for £12 million.

However, Fulham's reported interest means that Premier League club Wanderers are not going to have it their own way in terms of signing Konsa.

According to WhoScored, Konsa made 42 appearances in the Championship for Brentford last season, scoring one goal in the process.

Leeds United Ace Has Row With Bielsa As PL Team Closes In On His Signing: What Now For The Club?

According to the latest reports from the Sun, Leeds United's defender Pontus Jansson has had a dispute with Marcelo Bielsa and he has been banned from the training ground at Thorp Arch. New Premier League entrants Sheffield United are close to signing the centre back and recently relegated Fulham are also said to be interested.

The Whites recently made massive inroads in the transfer market as they secured one signing after another. However, the latest reports regarding Jansson and Bielsa row should come as a blow to the club. The Swedish defender was a regular feature for the club last season and is one of the fan favourites as well.

Bielsa: A hard taskmaster

With the club recently securing a deal for Ben White from Brighton, that might also mean that there could be a departure from the defensive area. Bielsa is known to be a strict disciplinarian, and he has had previous rows with players and the board in the past. He even went on to leave Serie A club Lazio after two days as he was made false promises initially. So one thing is clear is that its either going to be Bielsa's way or the highway.

Therefore if Jansson has fallen on the wrong side of Bielsa, then there would likely be no way back for him in the Leeds United setup.

What now for the club?

Jansson emerged as a cult hero ever since he signed for the club in 2017. He is strong and committed in his defending and a reliable force in the air. However, one cannot ignore the fact that he was prone to making some errors and going into rash challenges now and then. Moreover, the Swedish centre back wasn't as comfortable as Liam Cooper or even Gaetano Berardi with the ball at his feet. Therefore even though some Leeds faithful might find it hard to digest but the club can look for better centre backs in the transfer market.

The defender is still in the prime of his career and has his contract at the club runs until 2022. Therefore the Whites can demand a decent sum for him in the transfer market. We believe that they can get £8-10m for the centre back and that would be a good deal for the club.

However, the breakout of the news of the manager and player having a row isn't a positive one as the prospective buyers would be aware that the defender isn't wanted at the club anymore and they might try to lowball Leeds with sub-par offers. So we are likely to have an interesting time ahead in the transfer market.

3 players who could stake their first-team claim as Fulham's pre-season kicks-off in coming days

With Fulham scheduled to kick-off their Championship campaign in 30 days' time, manager Scott Parker will unquestionably be wanting to banish the demons of the 2018/19 season by launching a complete overhaul of his squad this summer.

Having already seen the likes of Ryan Babel, Lazar Markovic and Berti Schotterl make their departures from Craven Cottage, the 38-year-old's focus between now and August will be to bring in some fresh faces who he believes can thrive in the second-tier.

Although the primary aim for the club's current crop of players will be to get their conditioning spot on for the new season, the first real test of their credentials will be when they play their first pre-season game against Cambridge United on Saturday.

Considering that this, as well as the Cottagers' other four friendlies represent a real opportunity for individuals to stake their claim for a place in the first-team to Parker, we have chosen three players who we think will be looking to make a real impression over the coming weeks.

Check them out below...

Steven Sessegnon
Although he has yet to reach the same heights as his brother Ryan, Steven Sessegnon may finally get the opportunity to prove his worth by Fulham next season after being forced to watch on from the sidelines since making his debut in 2017.

Having demonstrated real signs of promise at youth level for the Cottagers as well England, the full-back should be targeting the club's upcoming friendlies as a way of showcasing his talent.

If he can do just that, there is no reason why Sessegnon cannot overtake Denis Odoi and Cyrus Christie in the pecking order.

Stefan Johansen
Despite playing a major role in helping the Cottagers clinch promotion to the Premier League in 2018, Stefan Johansen was loaned out by the club to West Bromwich Albion earlier this year after failing to impress in the top-flight.

Whilst with the Baggies, the Norwegian international's struggles continued as he was only able to produce fleeting moments of quality in the Championship in the second-half of the 2018/19 campaign.

Now back at Fulham, Johansen knows that the pressure is well and truly on him to perform during pre-season as a failure to do so could result in him being  shipped out once again this summer.

Luca de la Torre
Whereas Luca de la Torre graduated from Fulham's academy three years ago, he has yet to establish himself as a regular member of their first-team squad due to the sheer competition for places in the wide areas.

Yet with Markovic and Babel leaving the club and Andre Schurrle returning to Borussia Dortmund last month, the 21-year-old may finally get the chance to show what he is capable of producing over the next few weeks.

By performing to his maximum throughout pre-season, de la Torre could follow in the footsteps of Clint Dempsey by becoming the latest American to take Craven Cottage by storm.

Sporting Lisbon in surprise move to snare Christie

Sporting Lisbon have been linked with a surprise move for Fulham full back Cyrus Christie, according to a Daily Mirror report.

The Portuguese giants, who finished third last season, are keen to add depth to their squad at right back and are currently putting together a bid for the Republic of Ireland international. Christie, who joined Fulham last January and made 28 appearances last term as the Whites were relegated from the Premier League, is understood to be very interested in a potential move to Sporting.

The 26 year-old, who has two years to run on his current deal at Craven Cottage, enjoyed a regular run in the Fulham side last season after Ryan Fredericks moved to West Ham in the summer and Manchester United's Timothy Fosu-Mensah struggled on loan. Christie, who has won 23 caps for the Republic of Ireland, has made 32 first-team appearances for Fulham since signing from Middlesbrough in January. His only goal to date was a stunning strike against Millwall in the League Cup at the New Den.

'He has Premier League potential' – Fulham move for defender would be great signing: Six Pointer

Fulham are looking to improve their defence this summer and have identified Ezri Konsa as a transfer target, according to Sky Sports News.

The 21-year-old is on an upward trajectory and impressed for Brentford last season following his multi-million-pound move from Charlton in summer 2018.

The Cottagers are believed to be interested in a loan move, and perhaps will include an option to make the deal permanent.

Konsa has become an important player for Brentford following the sale of Chris Mepham in January and therefore The Bees will not want to sell, meaning Fulham may have to meet his reported release clause of £12m.

Here, our FLW Six Pointer takes a look at the possible deal and how it would affect both clubs.

First of all, how good is he?
"Konsa is a very effective defender, his physical attributes allow him to track player runs, cover for his defensive partner, and win aerial battles, all of which make him an accomplished Championship defender.

"Those attributes, should he develop them further, will stand him in good stead should he make a move to the Premier League, which seems inevitable given he's only 21.

"He did brilliantly at Charlton in his two years at The Valley, and he has adjusted to the step up to the Championship and hit top form, which suggests he is only getting better and better and he has Premier League potential."

Would he be a regular at Fulham?
"Fulham have two dependable defenders in Alfie Mawson and Tim Ream, whilst Maxime Le Marchand could also bounce back from a disappointing season and prove he has a valuable role to play.

"That could mean there are three players ahead of Konsa in the pecking order, but his pace and agility makes him different, and he could be the perfect partner for one of those three.

"It ultimately depends on what Scott Parker wants from his defenders. Mawson and Le Marchand are good with the ball at their feet, as is Konsa, but in coming up against quick attackers Konsa is probably the best bet for Fulham, and he will likely be in the starting line-up before long.

How big a blow would his loss be to Brentford?
"It would be frustrating if they lost a third key defender in the space of a year, with John Egan and Chris Mepham exiting, but it is what The Bees have come to expect and they operate with this eventuality in mind.

"As a result, losing Konsa would not be as big a blow to them as it might be for other clubs, at least in the short-term.

"However, young, composed and technically gifted defenders like Konsa are incredibly rare, and it is likely that Brentford would not be able to bring in another player like him. It is important they keep him for at least a while longer, as his value is only going to increase."

Should Fulham pay £12m? Is he worth more?
"Considering the outlay Fulham have spent on defenders in recent years £12m would be a steal.

"Konsa has the ability to form a strong defence at Fulham and he could help provide the basis for a promotion push, and if Fulham went back up at the first time of asking then he would have already repaid his fee.

"Added to that he is only 21 and in the next few years both his ability and transfer value will increase, particularly as he is English. That means that he is probably worth more than £12m despite only three years of experience, and just one in the Championship."

What can Brentford do to persuade him to stay?
"Brentford have a number of players wanted by clubs higher up the football pyramid, which suggests they have a squad of brilliant individuals.

"If they have the players all they need is organisation, a plan, and a good manager to see it through. They should make the play-offs next season and if they do that would be a sign of progress, and an indication they are closer to the Premier League.

"The Premier League is the goal for the likes of Konsa, Maupay and Benrahma, and all could be persuaded to stay a year or two more to try and get the club into the top-tier."

Which club is better suited to Konsa in terms of aiding his development?
"It ultimately comes down to game time. Both clubs have good track records with giving young players time on the pitch, and both have high levels of coaching for their young players.

"Currently staying at Brentford seems like the best choice. He has become a key member of the first-team and he is rated by the coaching and management staff, which means he will continue to feature regularly.

"At Fulham, he will have to prove himself again and whilst he is capable of that there is a risk that he starts badly and from there he could struggle to get into the first team, which means he may not reach his potential."
