'Our Phil Foden type player' – Liverpool fans react as Harvey Elliott nears move to Anfield

Harvey Elliott has already made his first-team debut for Fulham.

According to various media outlets (such as BBC Sport), Harvey Elliott is on his way to Liverpool this summer. The talented teenager is leaving Fulham and Liverpool will owe a compensation fee to the London club.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly chased Elliott but he is set to move to Anfield. He will join on scholarship terms until he can turn professional on his 17th birthday.

The 16-year-old is the youngest player to ever feature in the Premier League. He made his league debut for Fulham as a late substitute against Wolves just 30 days after his 16th birthday.

His senior debut came in September 2018 against Millwall in the EFL Cup when he was still only 15. He is tipped for a bright future in the game and Liverpool have won the race.

The England U17 international is a left-footed attacking midfield with a lot of natural talent. He has impressed at youth level for Fulham, which earned him his chance in the senior side.

Report: Ryan Sessegnon wants Tottenham move but Mauricio Pochettino remains patient

Ryan Sessegnon is valued at £40m by Fulham.

Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon but Mauricio Pochettino is in no hurry to get this deal over the line, according to Sky Sports News.

Sessegnon reportedly wants to complete a move to Tottenham but the two clubs are still haggling over his fee. Fulham want £40m for Sessegnon while Tottenham want him for less.

The England U21 starlet is still Tottenham's first-choice left-back target this summer, especially if Danny Rose leaves. Ben Davies has signed a new contract until 2024 but Rose could be on his way out of North London.

Sessegnon is seen as the long-term replacement for Rose and he can also play further up the field. Last season, the 19-year-old scored two Premier League goals and provided six assists.

But he could not prevent Fulham from suffering relegation to the Championship. Instead of staying with the Cottagers like Aleksandr Mitrovic and Tom Cairney, Sessegnon is eager to move on with Spurs his preferred destination.

However, the talented teenager might be forced to wait to complete this move. Tottenham are not rushing into this signing and it could happen later this summer instead.

Ryan Sessegnon: Ideal Danny Rose replacement?

There is much debate over Sessegnon's best position. He broke into the Fulham team as a left-back but his attacking performances have earned him a role as a winger.

Sessegnon is a goalscorer so perhaps he might be wasted at left-back. But in this Spurs team, he is likely to do more attacking than defending, which could suit his style of play.

In the long-term, Sessegnon might have to specialise in a certain position. But for now, Spurs should see him as both; he can provide cover for Davies and for the attacking midfielders.

Liverpool plan for Elliot revealed

Liverpool plan to use Harvey Elliott in their first team squad next season, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claim on their website that a deal for the 16-year-old, whose contract at Fulham has expired, could be completed this week.

The Liverpool Echo report that Jurgen Klopp has no immediate plan to send Elliot to the Kirkby Academy, but instead would prefer to introduce him into the first-team setup.

Klopp is suggested to believe that Elliot would benefit and develop much more as a player from learning from the more senior figures at Anfield.

Liverpool were reported by Goal to have beaten Manchester City and Arsenal to the 16-year-old's signature.

OPINION

It would come as no real surprise to see Elliott train with the first team this summer should he complete his move from Craven Cottage. Young starlets such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Rhian Brewster have shown that it is possible to break into the first-team set-up should you perform well enough in training. Liverpool have already signed 17-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg, who has been catapulted straight into the action at Melwood. Elliott must take it all in his stride and play with a sense of freedom this summer, and be thankful to be given such a great chance to play for his boyhood club. This also signifies Klopp's intentions for the upcoming campaign, who instead of majorly strengthening a squad that almost won the club's first ever Premier League, will now look to add a blend of youth in the hope of improving the squad gradually. Elliott will be given the opportunity should a deal be completed, and it is up to him to prove himself on one of the biggest stages of all.

The role Danny Rose can play in Ryan Sessegnon's future if Mauricio Pochettino gets his man

Sessegnon failed to hit the heights in the Premier League last season

Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping he can add to his squad in the coming weeks after a busy summer at Tottenham so far.

Talented youngster Jack Clarke became the club's first new signing in 18 months after joining from Leeds United, with Tanguy Ndombele following the winger through the door a few hours later in a club record £63m move.

There was even more good news from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday with both Harry Winks and Ben Davies committing their long-term futures to the club by penning new contracts.

Amid links with Giovani Lo Celso and Dani Ceballos, Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon has been tipped to move across the capital as a Craven Cottage exit looks likely.

The arrival of the youngster would raise question marks over Danny Rose's future at the club as the 19-year-old can play as a left-back or further forward.

However, former Spurs player Pascal Chimbonda believes that Rose could actually be key in terms of Sessegnon's development if he does indeed join the Lilywhites before next month's deadline.

"Pochettino can unlock Sessegnon's full potential and would be a great signing for Tottenham," he told Sportingbet.

"It's unfair to judge him on last season's performance as he was played in various positions in a team where everyone struggled to find their feet.

Ryan Sessegnon celebrates during the Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion (Image: Clive Rose/Getty Images)

"He's still very young and needs the guidance to fulfil his potential. Pochettino can offer him that as well as Danny Rose.

"I think Rose would be an excellent player for Sessegnon to learn from and it would give him some healthy competition.

"They are very similar in terms of both being attackingly strong, but Rose can improve Sessegnon's defensive capabilities."

It also remains to be seen what will happen on the opposite flank in the coming weeks with Kieran Trippier struggling last season.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka was linked with a move to the club prior to his move to Manchester United but Chimbonda feels Spurs did the right thing by not moving for him.

"Tottenham made the right choice to not try and sign Wan-Bissaka," he added. "He had a very good season for Palace, but he's still very far off from becoming a proven player.

"Tottenham need to strengthen other parts of the pitch more urgently and Wan-Bissaka would have taken a massive wedge out of the transfer budget."

Who is Ivan Cavaleiro? Profile on Wolves man linked with Derby County, Fulham and Huddersfield

The Portuguese international helped Wolves clinch the Championship title in 2017-18

Derby County have been linked with a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Ivan Cavaleiro.

The report, from wolvesbite.com, suggests that the Portuguese has been made available for a loan or permanent move from the Premier League side.

Recently-relegated duo Fulham and Huddersfield Town, two of Derby's Championship rivals for the 2019-20 campaign, are also said to be interested.

But what more do we know about the latest player linked with Phillip Cocu's side?

Ivan Cavaleiro of Wolverhampton Wanderers reacts during the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City at Molineux (Image: Molly Darlington - AMA/Getty Images)

His career so far

Cavaleiro spent time with several clubs at youth level, before breaking into Benfica's B team in the second tier of Portuguese football.

He scored 22 goals in 56 League appearances across the 2012-13 and 2013-14 campaign, earning a spot in the Benfica first team and making his debut for the main side in a Champions League group-stage draw against Olympiacos in October 2013.

A loan move to Deportivo La Coruna followed in 2014-15, during which he scored three goals in 34 outings, before a big-money move to Monaco in 2015.

The winger was 21 when he joined the French club for a reported €15m in July 2015 on a five-year contract.

Within a year - after two goals in 15 games across Ligue 1 and the French League Cup - Cavaleiro was on the move to England, signing for Wolves in a reported £7m move that sparked the start of the Molineux club's push for the Premier League.

That push stuttered in Cavaleiro's first season in the Midlands, and despite his five goals in 33 appearances, Wolves finished the 2016-17 season in 15th.

But the 2017-18 campaign would bring an eye-catching title win for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Cavaleiro scored in a 2-0 victory at Derby in the second game of that season, and he would go on to notch another eight goals as Wolves romped into the top flight.

Wolves' first season back in the Premier League would see the Portuguese international - who has two senior caps to his name - start only six League games, with 17 further appearances off the bench.

He scored five goals in all competitions, including two crucial strikes in his side's run to the FA Cup semi-final - but he has seemingly dropped down the forward pecking order at Molineux.

The current situation

Cavaleiro signed a five-year deal at Wolves in 2016, meaning he is under contract at Molineux until 2021.

Wolves' switch from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2 formation less focused on attacking wide men seems to have impacted the 25-year-old's involvement, with a single Premier League start coming after January 2 last season.

Fulham and Huddersfield are also reportedly targeting him over a potential summer move.

According to our colleagues at Birmingham Live, "while Wolves would be willing to sell Cavaleiro if a suitable offer arrived, they aren't exactly pushing him out the door.

"Cavaleiro's future is largely in his own hands with Nuno quite content to keep him at Molineux. However, the reality is that come August 9, Cavaleiro could be Wolves' fourth choice forward."

Liverpool will reportedly throw teenager Harvey Elliott straight into first team squad

The youngster might have expected to be eased into the youth sides.

Liverpool are expected to sign Fulham starlet Harvey Elliott and want to throw him straight into their first-team plans, according to the Liverpool Echo.

They report that Jurgen Klopp is ready to let Elliott bypass the Under 18 and the Under 23 sides as soon as he completes his projected move from Craven Cottage.

That underlines just how good the German thinks the young Englishman is, after he became the Premier League's youngest ever player last season.

The theory behind the move is apparently that Elliott would learn more from being around the Champions League winners rather than players of his own age.

Elliott is one of the hottest talents in world football and of course there are plenty of stories about teenagers coming in and bursting onto the scene as raw teenagers.

Jurgen Klopp doesn't need to take that gamble yet – such is the quality of his squad – but if Elliott were to impress in pre-season, there's no reason why he wouldn't get first team opportunities.

But it's all about Elliott's development – there are still plenty of years ahead of him to get to the level required to get into the first team, but even getting him through the door in the first place is a coup.

Millwall striker backing his old club Fulham to be a Championship force

Matt Smith is backing his former club Fulham to be one of the top sides in the Championship – but also believes it could work in Millwall's favour that the trip to Craven Cottage comes early on.

The striker, 30, signed for the Lions last week and made his debut in Saturday's 4-0 win at Concord Rangers.

Millwall head to Fulham on August 21, in what will be their fourth fixture of the 2019-20 campaign.

The Cottagers secured captain Tom Cairney on a new contract – a statement of intent that they are looking to bounce back from Premier League relegation.

And the Lions targetman was talking before Fulham also announced Aleksandar Mitrovic had penned an extension on Sunday until 2024.

"I'm really good friends with Tom," said Smith. "They'll be one of the stronger teams in the league, without a shadow of a doubt.

"If you look at their squad they have not lost much, if any, from the Premier League.

"There are a few big teams in there but when I was at Fulham we beat Newcastle on the opening day – and they went on to walk the league.

"Sometimes it's best to get the big ones early before they get momentum going. It's not always the worst thing.

"There really are no easy games – anyone can beat anyone on their day. It's all about application, concentration and making sure we're prepared for every match."

Fulham player 'tops' club's shortlist, ready to make an offer

According to Sabah, Fulham's Jean Michael Seri currently 'tops' Galatasaray's shortlist as they look to bring in a central midfielder for next season.

The Turkish champions are in the market for a midfielder after Stoke City's Badou Ndiaye returned to his parent club and, their other first-choice midfielder Fernando is said to be on the verge of agreeing a move to Sevilla.

Sabah claims Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim is a big fan of the 27 year old and he's told the Turkish club's board signing the Fulham player could be a great addition to the squad.

It's claimed Gala will make a loan offer for Seri and Sabah say they also have other targets in mind, including former Swansea City midfielder Roque Mesa.

Cim Bom will be competing in the Champions League next season and they want to strengthen their squad after missing out on the knockout stages during the last campaign. They will also be looking to defend their Super Lig title.

Seri is expected to leave Fulham after the London club's relegation from the Premier League as he is under contract at Craven Cottage until June 2022.

They'd probably prefer a permanent deal.

Fulham player's agent reveals he's spoken to Serie A side – Client 'would be happy' to play in Italy

Told last week there was 'no chance' of Jean-Michael Seri being a Fulham player next season, we did our best to bring you the latest on Jean-Michael Seri.

Sport Witness were informed Crystal Palace were still hovering around the midfielder, while clubs such as Napoli and Galatasaray had presented offers, but just for loans.

It was clear work was being done behind the scenes at Fulham and on Seri's side to try and find him a landing spot, and that continues to be the case.

In fact, his agent had a chat with Teleradiostereo in Italy, where he explained he had held talks with AS Roma in Serie A about his client.

He said, relayed by Calciomercato.it: "Myself and my Italian partner spoke to Roma a couple of weeks ago. We're seeing how the situation will evolve. Seri would be happy to play in Italy. Roma are a great club."

Considering the Italian side are currently on the lookout for a new midfielder, currently trying to Fiorentina's Jordan Veretout, this could be a match made in heaven.

However, a lot could depend on how much Fulham ask for, as Roma's coffers aren't as plentiful as others around them these days.

It's nothing overly concrete, but if Roma lose out to on Veretout, who is also of interest to Milan and Napoli, then Seri might become a more attractive prospect in the next few weeks.

Fulham midfielder holds talks with Italian side as Craven Cottage departure edges closer

Jean Michael-Seri is a player in significant demand heading into the summer, with a number of clubs registering their interest in signing the midfielder.

The 27-year-old made 32 appearances for Fulham in the Premier League last season, but was unable to stop them from being relegated back into the Championship after a brief spell in the top-flight.

It has previously been reported by Sports Witness that he was wanted by Crystal Palace, Napoli and Inter Milan.

But the Seri's agent as spoken out following this speculation, and has revealed to Italian radio station, Teleradiostereo (quotes sourced from Calciomercato) that the Fulham midfielder has been in talks with AS Roma over a potential move to Italy.

"Myself and my Italian partner spoke to Roma a couple of weeks ago. We're seeing how the situation will evolve. Seri would be happy to play in Italy. Roma are a great club."

It could be set to be a brief spell at Craven Cottage, as the Ivorian only only signed for the Lilywhites in the summer of 2018, after they won promotion to the Premier League with a win over Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final.

The report claims that Seri is reportedly happy to play his football with the Italian giants, although it remains to be seen as to whether they have submitted a formal bid for him.

The Verdict:

It's only a matter of time before he leaves the club I think.

He's far too good to be playing in the Championship next season, and Fulham should be looking to move him on at the earliest of opportunities.

A move to AS Roma could be the best move for him as well, as he's struggled to adapt to the physical demands of English football since moving to Fulham last year.

Gough makes claim about Elliot

Darren Gough claimed that Fulham teenager Harvey Elliot could potentially end up being sold for £90million if he joins Liverpool and plays some games for them.

BBC Sport previously reported that Liverpool were poised to beat Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain to the Fulham teen as he was set to sign for them.

Gough claimed that if Elliot went to Anfield played a few games for them and showed some talent, then the Reds would be able to sell him for £50million to £80million or even £90million quid.

"He goes Liverpool, they'll have to pay a fee as he's not yet old enough to have a professional contract, if he plays some games and shows some talent, they'll be able to sell him for £50million to £80million or even £90million quid," said Gough on talkSPORT (17:29, Tuesday, July 9th).

"That's why they take a gamble on these kids."

OPINION

Elliot hasn't even walked through the doors of Anfield yet and Gough will already have Liverpool fans drooling over how much he could potentially one day be sold for. The 16-year-old became the youngest player to feature in the Premier League by playing for Fulham in their 1-0 defeat to Wolves in May after he was brought on off the bench late in the game. Elliot went on to appear a total of two times in the Premier League for Fulham before the 2018/19 season, as he also featured against Newcastle United briefly, and he also appeared for them once in the EFL Cup. Given that it's odd for players as young as Elliot to feature for a team as big as Fulham, it's a testament to his potential.  However, while Gough is already dreaming of what a profitable success Elliot could be for the Reds, maybe Liverpool should complete his signing before getting too far ahead of themselves.

Tottenham yet to enter talks over deal to sign Championship star who wants London move

Spurs transfer news: Tottenham waiting on Sessegnon deal as they have to sell before buying

Sky Sports News claims that Tottenham are "staying patient" as they target Ryan Sessegnon.

The report adds that the Fulham teenager wants to join Mauricio Pochettino's team, and Tottenham are leading the race to sign the Englishman.

Sessegnon didn't have a great season with the Cottagers as they were relegated to the Championship last season.

The 19-year-old played games as a left-back and as a left winger, but could not keep his team in the Premier League.

The report adds that Fulham value Sessegnon at £40m, while Tottenham want to negotiate a lower fee for the teenager.

Tottenham completed the signings of Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke last week, however, the report claims that Spurs need to sell players before buying.

The report further claims that clubs are yet to enter direct talks regarding a deal for Sessegnon.

Some first-teamers up for sale at Tottenham

The report adds that Danny Rose is one of several players who could be sold in the summer. Sessegnon could be a direct replacement for Rose, and it will be interesting to see how Pochettino includes the English sensation in the team.

The 19-year-old's best performances came from attacking positions, however, we could see him follow the Gareth Bale route too.

The Welshman played several games as a left-back before moving up the pitch and became one of the best in the world.

Sessegnon has the potential to be a world-class player, and Pochettino is the right manager to help him reach that goal.

Liverpool's transfer strategy outlined and what is next after Harvey Elliott deal

Liverpool are closing in on Fulham teenager Harvey Elliott as they move away from the big-spending tactics of last summer

Liverpool are set to continue their summer transfer strategy with Harvey Elliott arriving at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp is poised to beat Real Madrid and PSG to the Fulham youngster, who made his Premier League debut last season.

Elliott does not turn 17 until next April but his acquisition signals the summer transfer intent of the European champions.

The Reds snapped up Netherlands U19 international defender Sepp van den Berg earlier this summer with the teenager linking up with the first-team squad for pre-season training.

David Maddock, Mirror Sport's Northern Football Correspondent, explained after that signing why it was a clear indication of Klopp's transfer strategy.

Harvey Elliott in action against Millwall on his debut (Image: REX/Shutterstock)

" Liverpool will use their impressive analytics database and cutting edge profiling in an attempt to identify young talent that can be developed further under the watch of boss Jurgen Klopp and his coaching team," he wrote.

"The recruitment team, led by sporting director Michael Edwards, have indicated there will be little business this summer, and there will be few more outgoings, beyond the departure of Daniel Sturridge and Alberto Moreno."

Moreno, who completed his move to Villarreal this week, needs to be replaced - although youngster Adam Lewis will be given the chance to stake a claim as Andy Robertson's back-up.

Liverpool are likely to focus on bringing in another more versatile signing to strengthen in the attacking wide areas.

That search may intensify after the injury to Xherdan Shaqiri while Liverpool's first-choice front three have all been involved in summer tournaments and won't return until well into pre-season.

They have been linked with a host of attacking players since beating Tottenham in May, with Lille's Nicolas Pepe among them.

The Reds reacted angrily to reports they were in talks over a £90m deal, branding the speculation "pure lies".

Talk of Philippe Coutinho returning to Anfield would get the same response with Liverpool only likely to spend £20m on a new face.

A year after spending big on Alisson, Naby Keita and Fabinho, Liverpool have adapted their transfer approach.

And Jurgen Klopp will hope keeping a settled squad with the introduction of young talent can see them go one step further next season.

Fulham Get The Rough End Of A Poor Deal

Last season, Harvey Elliott not only became the youngest player to represent Fulham in a Premier League fixture but also the youngest ever player to play in the Premier League.

That moment, against Wolverhampton Wanderers, created a piece of history that could stay in the record book for quite a time.

It also led us to ponder over what kind of Fulham future the teenager had.

Well it appears not much of one!

The 16-year-old, who cannot sign a professional contract until he is 17 next April, is set to leave Craven Cottage.

Harvey, instead of gracing the Championship next season, with the odd appearance or two, has declined a scholarship at Fulham and instead, according to The BBC, is set to join the current holders of the Champions League trophy, Liverpool.

But whilst a move to Anfield, according to our quoted source, looks imminent, it's also implied that two European giants, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, were interested in our talented teenager.

Now whether if Fulham had retained their Premier League status, last season, would have had a different bearing on the outcome of the teenager, when it comes to where he'll be playing his football, we're not sure.

But what is so gut-wrenching bad about the whole scenario is that Fulham, for all their efforts in bringing the teenager through the system, will receive only a minimal compensation payment for their troubles.

However, if we are to lose Harvey then it would be churlish not to wish him all the best in his future career, hopefully he'll go on to fulfil the promise he has shown and enjoy a successful and flourishing career.
