Report: Tottenham's reported interest in Ryan Sessegnon could be affected by his brother

Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be interested in signing both Fulham aces.

According to a report from the Daily Star, Tottenham remain keen on signing Fulham ace Ryan Sessegnon, but their interest in his brother Steven is complicating matters.

Spurs have already been incredibly busy this summer, bringing in Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon and Jack Clarke from Leeds United.

And Mauricio Pochettino's business seems to be far from finished.

The Daily Star claims that Ryan Sessegnon, 19, remains a top target for Tottenham, but their hopes of signing him are being hindered by their interest in his twin brother Steven, with Fulham not keen on selling both players.

Football.London claims that Pochettino wants to deploy Ryan as both a left-back and a left-winger, if and when he brings him to Spurs.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are willing to bid around £35 million for the teenager this summer, but if they want to bring him to north London, they might just have to end their interest in his brother Steven.

Much will depend on how much Pochettino actually wants to sign both, but if he had to choose one, Ryan is clearly the standout performer out of the two brothers, and it really should be an easy decision for Tottenham.

Hammersmith Bridge 'may be shut to drivers for good' as repair bill nears £100m

Repairs: Hammersmith Bridge, which has been closed to motorists since April ( )

Hammersmith Bridge may never be reopened to motorists as the estimated repair bill nears £100 million, it emerged today.

A senior Transport for London engineer said the 132-year-old structure, closed to motorists in April after checks revealed critical safety faults, may instead remain as a cyclist and  pedestrian bridge.

The suggestion is one of three options under consideration by transport chiefs. The others are limited repairs to enable single-decker buses and local traffic to cross or to fully restore the cast iron structure.

But that would be "very expensive" and could take three years, according to New Civil Engineer magazine.

The listed bridge, owned by Hammersmith and Fulham council, was shut to motor vehicles on April 10 after safety sensors detected "critical faults".

Nick Fairholme, TfL's director of project and programme delivery, told a conference: "Though the bridge is owned by Hammersmith & Fulham, TfL don't want to lose it. Unfortunately the bridge is in a poor state. However, we do believe that it is cost-effective to reopen it. We believe it can be reopened, however it is not going to open overnight."

He added: "Although we want to reopen it, [a full repair] is not going to be a cheap fix. If there is public support for leaving it as a pedestrian and cycle bridge then we will have to consider that."

TfL and Mayor Sadiq Khan have promised to decide next month what to do.

The council says it cannot afford to repair the bridge, while TfL has its own financial crisis.

Council sources today said repairs were expected to cost "at least £40 million" but that keeping it shut to traffic was "not really an option".

Greg Hands, Tory MP for Chelsea and Fulham, today insisted the bridge "has to be reopened".

He told the Standard: "The price of repairing the bridge is being talked up all the time — now up to £100 million. I think they're building up a narrative of the bridge being too expensive to repair. I think that is feeble.

"There is a massive impact on communities like Fulham and Putney from diverted traffic ...why should my constituents in Fulham suffer diverted traffic forever?"

TfL commissioner Mike Brown, asked last week if the bridge would ever re-open, said it was "too early to say". TfL has already committed £25 million.

H&F council leader Steve Cowan wants to supplement it with a Thames tunnel and the council is "not ruling out" a toll to pay for repairs.

Steve Cowan, Labour leader of Hammersmith & Fulham council, told the Standard today: "We are going to reopen the bridge within three years to motorised traffic."

After agent comments, local press dismiss interest in Fulham player – Could be a long summer

On Tuesday, we covered a story regarding Jean-Michael Seri and his agent's efforts to get him out of Fulham.

The player's representative admitted having held a chat with Roma a couple of weeks ago, even praising the Serie A club, perhaps in a bid to sweet talk them into saving his client from Craven Cottage.

Well, if both Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport are to be believed on Wednesday, that is a transfer that will not happen.

Perhaps briefed by the club or simply told by their sources the same thing, the two newspapers are quite categorical about the affair: the former state that 'for now, the track is closed' while the latter simply say the idea has been denied, as the agent has already been told Roma aren't interested.

At the end of the day, Seri's representative is just doing his job, which is, at this moment in time, finding his client a new landing spot after a rather difficult year at Fulham.

It's just, at the rate this is going, it could end up being a long summer for all involved.

As for the player in all this, he remains at the Africa Cup of Nations where the Ivory Coast will face Algeria in the quarter finals on Thursday.

Liverpool to sign record-breaking Fulham teenager Harvey Elliott

Liverpool are set to win the race to sign Fulham's teenage midfielder Harvey Elliott, Sky Sports News understands.

The 16-year-old holds the record as the youngest player to play in the Premier League, and has attracted interest from top European clubs such as Barcelona, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig.

But he is now poised to join European champions Liverpool after his youth contract expired in June.

He has already rejected a new contract at Craven Cottage and has not been named in the club's new intake of scholars.

Sky Sports News understands Elliott will join up with Liverpool's first team, although FA rules dictate U17s cannot sign professional deals.

Liverpool will have to negotiate a compensation package with Fulham as the England U17 international is regarded as a highly-prized prospect.

Elliott has already represented England at U17 level

He made his Fulham debut aged 15 in the Carabao Cup last September and became the youngest ever Premier League player in a 1-0 defeat against Wolves in May, when he was aged 16 years and 30 days.

Fulham boss Scott Parker, who gave Elliott his Premier League debut last season, described him as an 'unbelievable talent'.

Liam Rosenior joins coaching staff at Derby

Liam Rosenior has left Brighton to join new Derby manager Phillip Cocu's first-team coaching staff.

Former Ipswich and Hull defender Rosenior has left his position as Brighton under-23s' assistant coach and has teamed up with Derby's squad in Florida.

"The 35-year-old has been appointed as specialist first-team coach and completed the formalities of his switch to the Rams at their training camp in Florida," Derby announced on their official website.

"He joins assistant manager Chris Van Der Weerden, specialist first-team coach Twan Scheepers and head goalkeeping coach Shay Given in forming Cocu's backroom staff."

Former Holland international Cocu was appointed as Derby boss last Friday following Frank Lampard's departure to Chelsea.

Rosenior, son of former Fulham and West Ham defender Leroy Rosenior, ended his 17-year playing career last summer to become a coach at Brighton.

He made over 400 senior appearances as a player and had spells at Bristol City, Fulham, Torquay, Reading, Ipswich, Hull and Brighton.

Fulham player's departure hits stumbling block

Roma are not interested in a move for Fulham's Jean Michael Seri despite recent claims from the midfielder's agent that talks had taken place between the two parties, reports in the Italian press have revealed.

Speaking recently on to Italian channel Teleradiostereo, Seri's agent was quoted by Calcio Mercato as saying: "Myself and my Italian partner spoke to Roma a couple of weeks ago.

"We're seeing how the situation will evolve. Seri would be happy to play in Italy. Roma are a great club."

Now however, it appears as though Seri will have to wait for his move to Italy for some time yet, with print editions of Italian papers Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport both reporting that report that the deal is not currently on the table, with Corriere claiming that Roma have told Seri's agent that they aren't interested in the midfielder.

Seri only joined Fulham from French side Nice last summer, with the 27-year-old making 34 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring once, but he was unable to prevent the London based side suffering an immediate relegation from the Premier League.

There are still three years remaining on Seri's contract at Craven Cottage, with the club holding the option of extending that by a further 12 months should they wish to do so, although it was recently reported by Sport Witness that there is 'no chance' that the midfielder will be at the club next season.

The Verdict

In fairness, I can't say I'm all that surprised that Roma don't seem to be particularly keen on a move for Seri this summer.

The midfielder didn't exactly shine during his time in the Premier League with Fulham last season, and given his contract situation and the price Fulham will have paid to sign him, you can't imagine he will be a particularly cheap signing for the Italians.

Given this would have been an opportunity to make some money back and clear a sizeable amount off the wage budget, not to mention Seri's apparent reluctance to return to Craven Cottage for next season, you feel that Fulham too may be disappointed by the news that Roma have decided not to take Seri off their hands.

This therefore, is a deal that appears to have turned sour for all parties very quickly indeed.

Youngster reveals formation fees are the reason Fulham move didn't take place

For Jordan D'Ambrosio, what should have been a dream move to Paris Saint-Germain a year ago quickly turned into a nightmare, as he now finds himself without a club a year on.

The 19-year-old is currently keeping fit by training with his French minnows Senlis after he left Sochaux to join the Parisians, who subsequently refused to pay formation fees of €300k to secure the move.

Since then, the youngster has been handed a few trials by clubs around Europe, including newly relegated Fulham.

Speaking to RMC Sport, D'Ambrosio explained that since he left Sochaux, he has spent time both at Craven Cottage as well as Mestalla in Valencia, but, once again, the formation fees keep standing in his way.

As he puts it himself, he's more than adequate for clubs purely on a football level, but when it comes to paying the €300k the Ligue 2 side are asking for, clubs such as Fulham are balking.

He said: "Today, Sochaux aren't letting go of the matter, and no one is prepared to pay. I'm not giving up, though. I'm working physically and I know things will work out."

The trial took place back in February, as we covered it at the time, but it seems the Cottagers simply weren't excited enough to spend the required amount on the youngster.

Let's hope he finds someone who does soon.

Fulham signing this proven Championship goal machine could be the push they need in order to get back into the PL

Fulham Opinion: The Cottagers should make a move for Dwight Gayle

According to the Birmingham Mail, Fulham are very keen on a move for Dwight Gayle. The former Premier League side have been linked with a move in the past, and are now amongst the many suitors for the Newcastle United man.

It seems that spending £100million in one transfer window wasn't enough, with the Cottagers trying again. However, making a move for Dwight Gayle is the right move, especially given the club's issues with scoring goals last season.

Sure, the Cottagers couldn't stop any side from scoring against them with each of the 19 Premier League sides netting at least one goal against them.

It was a guidebook on how not to defend and one that should never be followed by any side. Yet, they managed to do relatively well offensively with Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring 11 goals, Andre Schurrle netting 6 and so on. Things need to change and it's where someone just like Dwight Gayle comes into play.

On loan at West Bromwich last season, the 28-year-old did remarkably well for the Baggies. Paired with Jay Rodriguez, Gayle flourished by using his pace and agility to lethal effect in the Championship. That has seen him rediscover his best self, scoring 23 goals so far, which includes not one but two hat tricks.

Together, both Gayle and Rodriguez have scored a total of 45 goals this season. It's why West Bromwich are keen on keeping the 28-year-old at the club, but with various other issues at the club, nothing has happened.

That is something that Fulham have to take advantage of given their situation. The Cottagers could lose more than a few players with the likes of Ryan Sessegnon (Mirror) linked with a move away.

Mitrovic signed a new contract and can't be the only one that the club depend on anymore Dwight Gayle can be that effective player to have alongside him, despite the 28-year-old's struggles in the Premier League.

Gayle has proven to be a very lethal Championship goalscorer, averaging 20 odd goals in the seasons he's spent in the second-tier. It shows why Fulham need him.

And with time, maybe they'll find a way back into the top-tier and this time do a better job of surviving.

Conclusion

Fulham need to change and by adding someone just like Dwight Gayle, will help them not just survive the Championship but maybe find their way back. However, they'll have to build a team around the forward and his experience will prove to be very vital.

Opinion: Spurs signing top left-back target would be a big risk

Spurs are still keen on signing Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon, but are in no rush to complete the deal, according to Sky Sports.

Fulham are said to be valuing the 19-year-old at £40million, but with the signings of Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke draining funds, players will likely need to be sold if new recruits are to come in.

One player who could leave is Danny Rose, but to sell the England international and replace him with Ryan Sessegnon could be considered a risk.

Rose started 13 league games for Spurs at left back last season, with Ben Davies starting 19 games in the same position.

In contrast, despite playing 37 games last season, Sessegnon was at left back for just three of them; for context, Jan Vertonghen played the same number of games there.

While the idea of buying Sessegnon is an exciting one, which fits in with the way Spurs have worked under Mauricio Pochettino, bringing him in with the expectation of playing at left back could be seen as a risk.

Attacking full-backs are normal in the modern game, but Sessegnon can be weak in his defensive contributions, as cited on WhoScored.

While it would be better for the England U21 international to play higher up the pitch, it is difficult to see him getting into the side on a regular basis in the more attacking positions, due to the talents Spurs currently possess there.

Therefore, signing Sessegnon could eventually bring up the question of how to use him in a way which would benefit both the team and his development as a player.

The thought of Sessegnon coming is an exciting one, but the move could carry a lot of risk.

Player commitment is key news for Fulham, now Scott Parker must capitalise

When a young aggressive Serbian arrived on Tyneside, he was excited to become a part of the historic culture of Newcastle. But Aleksandar Mitrovic's attitude shifted. It paralleled with the struggling performances he endured at the ever-chaotic Magpies. Eventually Mitrovic needed a change of new scenery. A new city, and most of all, a new start.

Mitrovic's path took him south and into the capital. Here Mitrovic enjoyed a new beginning with Fulham. He played a lethal role in their promotion winning campaign under his fellow countryman Slaviša Jokanović and settled into the luxury space London offers.

The Serbian had an unriddled desire to sign for the South West London side summer, despite various offers from other clubs after the World Cup. He was completely invested in the club and the fans; an element he failed to find in the North East.

His pride to play for Fulham was tested incredibly this summer, with Premier League and Chinese clubs circling around the 24-year-old, but his happiness and passion for the club championed through.

The latest news of Mitrovic signing a new five-year-deal will be the most celebratory transfer business Fulham will have this summer. Mitrovic has grown into an irreplaceable cog at Craven Cottage with his predatory goalscoring talent.

The bullying frontman tormented Championship defenders like a lion hunting its prey. In his first five months as a Fulham player, he fired in 12 goals in only 17 appearances; while also putting up a highly respectful 11 goals in 37 appearances in an inept Fulham team last year.

A reason behind the Serbian's explosive blood-thirst was Jokanović's tactics. Fulham's former manager exploited Mitrovic's energy and power to turn him into the player Rafa Benitez failed to do.

"He's a sensational," Jokanović said during Mitrovic's loan stint in the Championship. "He didn't score but his movement for the first goal was fantastic... he created the space for Sessegnon to finish. He showed quality, power and did a great job for us – holding up the ball very well and having a positive impact on the game."

The two Serbians formed a lethal connection in their time together. In fact, Jokanović's style was the reason behind Mitrovc's move to Fulham. Scott Parker, the current Fulham manager, must try to emulate his predecessor's relationship with the Serbian if they to fight for promotion.

His intimidating presence will cause problems in itself next season, like Jokanović highlights. He has the ability to accelerate Fulham back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, but Parker must create a system to release the beast Jokanović let out on the Championship. It will have league running in horror.

Fulham Fans Getting Restless As The Only Transfers Seem To Be Outwards

With a little over three weeks to go before Fulham travel to Barnsley in their opening Championship league match, there seems to be little news of incoming players needed to strengthen the squad. In contrast, there have been many players released or returned to their clubs following loan deals.

The other stories constantly in the media are getting rather boring. The seemingly imminent departure of Ryan Sessegnon, with Tottenham being the most mentioned in the running to acquire his services. They are well known for dragging their heals to get a deal done for the lowest price possible.

What makes matters worse for Fulham is their apparent interest in signing Ryan's twin brother Steven. This would be a very bad move for the Cottagers, as Steven could possibly have a good chance of regular first team action in the Championship.

The other likely players that Fulham will lose before the start of the new season are; Seri, Elliott and Kamara back out on loan. Then there is Anguissa, who I believe could be an influence in our midfield.

So, should we not bring in any new recruits very soon, this could possibly be our first-team sheet against Barnsley on 3rd August;

Team: Bettinelli, Bryan, Mawson, Ream (or Odoi), Christie, Johansen, McDonald, Cairney, Anguissa (or S.Sessegnon), Mitrovic, Ayite

Subs: Rodak, Le Marchand, O'Riley, De La Torre, Cisse, Kebano, Fonte

Is this a strong enough squad to be title contenders? What do you think?

Honestly I'm less worried about the squad although it does need strengthening in defence and up front in particular than I am about the hype surrounding the untried and untested Scott parker.
