Agency confirm Fulham player has signed a 'new contract', duration of deal still unclear

Fulham were one of the three clubs who were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Earlier in May, the Cottagers owner Shahid Khan confirmed they had exercised the option to extend the contract of few players by a year and Denis Odoi's name was included in the list.

Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws on Tuesday explains the 31-year-old has signed a new contract with the Championship side, but the length of the deal has not been disclosed.

There has been no mention of Odoi signing a new deal on Fulham's social media channels or their official website.

However, this information was confirmed by Stirr Associates, the agency who represent the player.

On Monday, they congratulated their client on Twitter after he signed a 'new contract' with Scott Parker's side.

It's still not clear if the latest deal will keep Odoi at Craven Cottage until the end of the season or if this is another extension, which will keep him at the club beyond 2020

Win Harry's Shirt!

To celebrate Harry Arter's electric start to his Fulham career, we're giving away a signed Arter 18 shirt.

It's the top that Harry wore when he put pen to paper last Tuesday, which he later autographed for one lucky fan to win.

The midfielder was thrown straight into Scott Parker's starting XI on Saturday, and responded with a Man of the Match display as Fulham began our Craven Cottage campaign with a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

To be in with a chance of winning the signed shirt, fill in the below form before 5pm on Friday, and answer the simple question correctly.

Good luck!

Blackburn Rovers "couldn't match the financial power" of Fulham in battle for Southampton midfielder

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that the club "tried very hard" to bring Southampton midfielder Harrison Reed back to the club, only for Fulham to swoop in to sign him on loan for the 2019/20 season.

Over the course of the 20181/9 Championship season, Southampton man Harrison Reed impressed during his loan spell with Blackburn Rovers. The midfielder played 36 during his season at Ewood Park, scoring three goals and providing seven assists along the way.

The versatile and energetic Reed was a valuable asset for Tony Mowbray and one that the Rovers boss wanted to bring back this summer. However, it was recently relegated Fulham who snapped the 24-year-old up in the end.

Mowbray has said that the club tried hard to bring him back but were fighting an uphill battle when pitted against Fulham, who are backed by hefty parachute payments.

"He was someone we tried very hard to bring back, yet we couldn't match the financial power of a club have just been relegated from the Premier League," Mowbray said to the Lancashire Telegraph.

"The numbers are quite dramatic, but what I would say is that we've been supported fantastically well. We were able to buy Gallagher in this window, there's been financial backing, but when a team comes out of the Premier League with a parachute payment of £40m, it helps.

"We weren't able to get some of the targets we wanted but that's football and we will try and have a really good season."

"Fulham can easily pick up the salary of a Premier League player," Mowbray added.

"Last year with Harrison Reed it took a lot of negotiations, a lot of talking, I know the people at Southampton very well. But business is business. When you're a Premier League club, they are rarely looking to do you a favour."

Games for the Weekend 16/08
Friday evening see's the boys travel to fellow relegation sufferers Huddersfield Town's John Smith's Stadium.
Friday night in Huddersfield, little thought given to the travelling fans so I can't see us taking many to the game.
Shame really as our performance against Rovers showed signs of improvement with a MoM from Harry Arter and good debut's from Harrison Reed and Bobby Reid.
We looked far stronger in the midfield, Tom's goal is an early contender for goal of the season, and whilst we didn't completely control the game we were certainly far better than against Barnsley.
Mitro got a tap-in, hopefully this will start him on a spree.

Huddersfield lost to Derby on the opening day and drew against QPR last time out so they'll be looking for a result against us especially after our trip to the Kirklees Stadium last season. Having signed Fraizer Campbell on a free, if he gets to play he'll want to make a mark, he could be one to be wary of.

Ryan Sessegnon's former manager reveals why he is destined for success at Tottenham

EXCLUSIVE Ryan Sessegnon moved to Tottenham from Fulham for £30m on transfer deadline day last week

Ryan Sessegnon has made the right choice to join Tottenham because Mauricio Pochettino can guide him to the very top.

That is the verdict of former Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic who gave Sessegnon his debut as a 16-year-old and helped develop the England prospect.

Sessegnon, 19, was a target of a host of top clubs this summer but made it clear that he was only interested in joining Spurs because of Pochettino's record of developing young players.

Tottenham got a £30m deal done on deadline day and Jokanovic believes the left back has the potential to get an England call-up after moving to White Hart Lane.

Jokanovic, who is now in charge of Qatari club Al-Gharafa, told Mirror Sport: "Ryan is really competitive, I'd highlight his focus on the game and his hard work.

"Since he started being a regular with us at the first team he always showed to be keen to listen to the manager and improve and you never had the feeling he was not ready for it.

"Over a hundred games and over 30 in Premier League by the age of 19, you get the experience required to take this step.

"I believe he can perfectly play for Spurs and has still got a huge career ahead and room for improvement.

"We were lucky to be part of his first seasons as a pro and he pays us back with his performance levels who were an important part on the way we played and our promotion at Fulham, like other players as well, and now he is joining a team where Pochettino knows how to manage the progress of young players as well.

"It will give him the platform to show in an even bigger stage what he can do.

"In that sense, Spurs is a good choice and I expect big things from him because I know he will keep his will to improve and great attitude."

Southampton: Saints face trip to Fulham in Carabao Cup second-round

Southampton will begin their 2019/20 Carabao Cup journey with a trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham.

The tie will be played during the week commencing the 26th August, which will be between Saints' league clashes with Brighton and Manchester United.

Meetings between the two sides in recent seasons have seen 1-0 and 2-0 wins for Saints in the FA Cup and Premier League, whilst Fulham triumphed 3-2 in their league meeting in London last year.

13 top-flight teams that are not in European competitions join the Carabao Cup at this stage, and Ralph Hasenhuttl's men will be one of them.

However, Saints will be hoping to have a good run in a cup competition this season with opportunities arising for teams of their standing in previous years.

Last season, they progressed past fellow Premier League sides in Brighton and Everton to reach the Fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

They were eventually dumped out by Leicester City on penalties at the King Power Stadium with Mark Hughes still as the club's manager at that time.

Saints' most recent cup final was in the EFL Cup back in the 2016/17 campaign. They ran Manchester United close at Wembley but lost out 3-2 in the end.

As with most top-flight clubs, safety in the league will take priority for Ralph Hasenhuttl and his men. They may even be hoping that a comfortable finish allows them to continue a good run at a cup win.

Most Premier League sides field second-string teams in the Carabao Cup and some of Saints' youngsters may well get an opportunity to take their first steps into senior football in the competition this time around.

However, Saints fans will be hoping that Hasenhuttl's teams are still strong enough to win rounds and progress deep towards Wembley once again.

Hasenhuttl led Saints in two FA Cup Third round ties against Derby County last season but saw his side lose on penalties in a replay.

The Austrian will be wanting to improve on his record in cup competitions overall after just two wins in 10 DFB-Pokal games whilst managing SpVgg Unterhaching, VfR Aalen, FC Ingolstadt 04 and RB Leipzig in Germany.

Saints draw Fulham in Carabao Cup

Southampton will travel to face Championship side Fulham in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Last season, Saints beat Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 at the same stage, before a penalty shootout success against Everton at Goodison Park. Following a goalless draw at Leicester City in the round of 16, they bowed out after a 6-5 defeat on penalties.

The tie at Craven Cottage will be played in the week commencing Monday 26th August

A confirmed date and time for the fixture will be announced as soon as it is known.

Southampton will play Fulham away in the second round of the Carabao Cup

Saints have been drawn away to Fulham in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's men will play the tie at Craven Cottage in the week commencing August 26.

Saints made it to the fourth round last year before being beaten on penalties at Leicester after a goalless 90 minutes in what proved to be the penultimate game in charge for Mark Hughes.

Fulham were relegated from the Premier League last season but managed a 3-2 win over Saints at Craven Cottage in late November.

Stuart Armstrong scored twice but two goals from Aleksander Mitrovic and one from Andre Schurrle ensured a rare victory for Claudio Ranieri's team.

Saints did exact a measure of revenge in the return game at St Mary's in February as strikes from Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse sealed a 2-0 victory.
