What style of play would you prefer from a few of these?

Given the immense potential of our team, what do you think would be the most effective style of play to get this team back to winning ways?

Let Sp get on with his job and get behind him.

"More of the same - Possession football" slightly improved about 5-10m higher up the pitch, should be much more effective.

"Long balls and Counter-attacking" only works against teams that attack, long balls against a team "parking the bus" will not work.

"Full backs bomb forward", requires both fast full backs getting back and fast centre-backs covering the space (i.e. not S.Sess, Mawson & Ream).

You cannot win football without possession of the ball unless your opponent gifts you own goals.  What tends to win, lose or draw matches is what you do with the ball when you have it and the law of randomness doesn't seem to favour brilliance over good fortune when you study the huge numbers involved.  A team design theory involving the Golden Ratio, Fibonacci Numbers and Phi might just do the trick but it would take a genius to put that sort of planning into effect.

A mixture of those tactics listed is required, surprise the opposition all of the time.

An overall analysis of goals score in football will show that often goals come from the more simple of moves. The early ball out to a fast wide man who quickly makes ground before putting in a good cross to a competent striker is favourite. We need to see more of this .

Don't play inverted wingers all the game have spells of swapping. Stop the ream  Mawson pass to each other, use the whole back line and move the ball quicker
Watching the ups and downs since 1958, wouldn't have it any other way, what a roller coaster of a club.

Have one full back go up at a time. That way we're not overrun. Works well for City.

Agree.  Why on earth would you attack on both sides at the same time?  Given a power attack deep on the left then the right should be open space which can be run into and exploited by the right sided players who have sat back until the defence has been drawn out of position and is disorganised.  If the defence hold firms then you move the ball back, recycle it and go again either left, right or centre, but with everybody knowing what comes next on your team.    It comes down to creating space and panic and you do that by not giving up the ball easily.

You could just tell your wingers not to cut in all the time and get to the byline and cross a ball.simples!

Vary the formation and be flexible, so 4411, 433,451 even 352.....it depends on the team your playing, but overall this season it has to be more tempo tempo tempo....tempo mad at the moment  :dft012:

"How's that?"

Given our over reliance on inverted wingers, I fell that with that it is no coincidence that Mitro is struggling a bit.
When Knocky was on the left today we looked so much better balanced.
Trouble was that when the ineffective Cav was replaced  by BCR,  Knocky went back to the right meaning  BCR had to go left.
So again we had no one  on the left who could go wide and get a cross in.
