Two tweaks Scott Parker could make to his Fulham side ahead of Reading clash

Midweek action returns to the Championship tonight with Reading hosting promotion hopefuls Fulham at the Madejski.

Fulham currently sit in tenth place with nine matches played, ten places above their midweek opponents, and will be looking to follow up their Friday night win against Wigan Athletic with another three points.

For the Royals, they will be eager to pick up their third win of the campaign having beaten Cardiff and Huddersfield but have not won since the end of August.

The last competitive meeting between the two sides ended in a 1-0 win for the Whites at Craven Cottage in the season that saw Slavisa Jokanovic's side promoted to the top-flight.

But what could current manager Scott Parker change to earn an edge in tonight's clash?

Well, here are TWO possible tweaks...

Cairney deeper
Despite battling to an impressive win against the Latics on Friday night, one thing that was apparent from a Fulham perspective was their lack of midfield control.

Whilst Stefan Johansen and Harrison Reed both put in industrious and admirable displays, neither were able to get their foot on the ball and dictate play.

Parker should therefore consider dropping Cairney back into a midfield three in order to provide that control, rather than playing him further up the pitch.

Wing swap
There is no doubting that Ivan Cavaleiro and Anthony Knockaert were two of the signings of the summer, and they have already shown their class in South-West London.

But they have consistently played on the left and right wing respectively, meaning both are repeatedly cutting inside.

Against Wigan, it was apparent that this made them much easier to defend against. Swapping them would allow both players to use their pace to their advantage, and get early crosses in, in order to take advantage of Aleksandar Mitrovic's impressive aerial prowess.

Important Travel Info

Fans travelling to Tuesday night's game at Reading by car could face disruption following an accident on the M4.

After a four car collision, the motorway was closed between junctions 11 and 12, with the Madejski Stadium located close to junction 11.

All lanes have now reopened, but fans should prepare accordingly and make sure they leave in plenty of time, as heavy traffic and congestion is still expected.

3 underrated Fulham players who deserve more credit than they're getting this season

Fulham have enjoyed a largely positive start to the season after returning to the Championship, with the Craven Cottage outfit having picked up four wins, three draws and two losses this term.

Fulham have mainly operated in an attacking and expansive 4-3-3 formation which is headed up by the attacking trident of Anthony Knockaert, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ivan Cavaleiro. It is a system which provides Parker's team with good width that allows them to attack from out wide, as well as giving the players the platform to play possession football which involves the use of short passes, with chances being largely created through the use of through balls.

With Fulham having scored 14 goals this season, it would be easy to praise the front three who have largely contributed to this figure, however here at Football League World we like to focus on the individuals who don't necessarily get as much recognition as their peers, and as such here are THREE underrated Fulham players who haven't got the credit they deserve so far this season...

Joe Bryan
One player who deserves more credit is former Bristol City full-back Joe Bryan, with the 26-year-old having enjoyed a great start to the season.

The left-back has averaged 3.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.4 clearances per game, whilst the defender has also contributed heavily to Fulham's attacking movements, by scoring one and assisting one in his first nine games, whilst also contributing an average of one key pass per game, thus making him one of Fulham's best attacking outlets this season.

Alfie Mawson
Another Fulham player who doesn't get the credit that his performances this season have warranted is centre back Alfie Mawson, who has recovered from a slow start to life at Craven Cottage last campaign to put in some solid showings this season.

Which can be backed up well by data provided by WhoScored.com, which indicates that the 25-year-old former Swansea City player averages 3.6 clearances per game, thus putting him highest in the Fulham squad for that variable.

Whilst in addition to this, Mawson also contributes heavily to his team's possession-based tactic, with the ex-Barnsley man racking up an average of 91 passes per game, a statistic which is made all the more impressive by the fact that he has average pass success rate of 86.6%, thus putting him amongst the best passers in the squad this season.

Steven Sessegnon
Last but by no means least is Fulham right-back Steven Sessegnon, who has emerged from the shadow of his brother Ryan this season to become on of the Cottager's key players, with the 19-year-old having started seven games this term.

Sessegnon has recorded some great statistics this season according to WhoScored.com, with the young full-back making an average of 1.9 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game showing that he has sharpened up the defensive side of his game since breaking into the first team set up.

Whilst in addition to this he can also boast an impressive pass success rate of 86.3%, with the academy graduate making an average of 62.7 passes per game, showing that he has adapted well to fit into Parker's possession-based style of play.
