Ex-Newcastle United, Crystal Palace & Fulham striker eyes National League top job
Former Newcastle United flop Shefki Kuqi has thrown his hat in the ring for a vacant managerial post in the National League.

Kuqi, who was Andy Carroll's shock free transfer replacement in 2011, has reportedly offered his services to AFC Fylde, who operate in the fifth tier of English football.

The 42-year-old has spent the last three years as a manager in his native Finland, but is keen to move back to England, where he spent ten years at the likes of Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town.

Speaking to our sister paper the Blackpool Gazette, Kuqi said: "I'm looking for a job in the UK.

"I had a couple of years experience as a manager in Finland but I played most of my career in England, which is the next place where I want to coach.

"Obviously as a manager you always want the best and you want to manage at the highest level possible. But I understand the situation and there is a lot of competition in any league from the Championship downwards.

"I know a little bit about AFC Fylde. I know they have an ambitious owner and that's what I'm looking for with my next job. I want somebody I can work alongside who wants to move forward and wants a higher position. That's what interests me."

Kuqi has earned himself a reputation in Finland for helping to stabilise clubs in the grip of financial troubles.

He started his management career by keeping FC Honka in the Premier League before winning the Championship play-offs with PK-25.

Kuqi, who was also capped 62 times by his country, would then join FC Inter Turku six months later, again defying the odds to keep them in the top flight before leaving in 2017.

He added: "In my time as a coach I've been quite successful.

"At the end of the day, whatever country you're in you're facing the same problems.

"I had a few interviews in England but last-minute things changed, which is understandable.

"I just have to keep believing in myself and hope the right opportunity comes."

Dave Challinor was sacked at the weekend follow eight years in the post.

Anguissa's house in Spain burgled – Fulham owned player loses more than €100k

Over the past few months, several La Liga players have been victims of robbery at their homes and some of the incidents even occurred when their family members were present.

Zambo Anguissa, who is on loan from Fulham at Villarreal has become the latest victim, according to El Periódico Mediterráneo.

The incident took place last weekend at his luxury villa in De Los Pinos Avenue, when the midfielder was on international duty with Cameroon.

It's indicated the intruders entered through one of the balconies of his villa, which is situated very close to the beach, and the robbers stole jewellery worth more than €100,000.

On returning to his villa, the Fulham owned player realised what had happened and lodged a complaint with National Police of Castelló. The report adds Anguissa's representatives have also initiated an investigation.

Anguissa's compatriot and Villarreal teammate Karl Toko Ekambi was at the receiving end six months ago when thieves took a luxury car of his.

The Fulham midfielder and Ekambi join Gabriel Paulista, Ezequiel Garay, Ramiro Funes Mori, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Gerard Piqué, Álvaro Morata, Jordi Alba, Dani Alves, Joaquín Sánchez, Thiago Silva, Philippe Coutinho, Karim Benzema and others to be victims of a spate of robberies against footballers in Spain.

Reed enjoying Fulham fans' support – and he's been impressive

Harrison Reed has started the season well, and Fulham fans have taken to him quickly.

The Championship club signed the midfielder on a year-long loan deal from Southampton, with Ralph Hasenhuttl deeming him surplus to his requirements for the 2019/20 campaign.

Reed has been impressive since arriving at Craven Cottage, though, and looks set to play an integral role in Scott Parker's side's push for promotion back to the Premier League.

In an interview with Fulham's official website, the 24-year-old discussed how the fans have backed him since he moved to London, and was evidently grateful for their support. He said:

It's like anything, you try not to read too much into it, whether it's negative or positive. You have to keep your feet on the floor and keep working.

But I do hear things and obviously it's a real good feeling for me, a confidence booster to see and hear that the work I'm doing on the pitch in front of the fans is leaving them with a good impression.

Read Southampton's verdict

Fans seem to love Reed wherever he goes. He's held in high esteem by many of the Southampton faithful, while his loan spells at Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers in recent years endeared him to their respective supporter-bases.

After two impressive seasons in the Championship with the aforementioned clubs, it comes as little surprise to see that the Saints midfielder is flourishing for Fulham.

With his tenacity, dynamism and efficient use of the ball earning him plenty of plaudits at Craven Cottage, perhaps it would be wise for Hasenhuttl to take a closer look at Reed next summer before a rash decision is made on his future.

Jonathan Greening offers five-word verdict on Nottingham Forest

West Bromwich Albion and Nottingham Forest currently lead the way in the Sky Bet Championship table, with both sides making hugely impressive starts to the season.

The two sides met at the City Ground on the first day of the season, and after picking up a 2-1 away win, Slaven Bilic's Baggies haven't looked back since, losing only one of their first 11 league games.

Forest have also made massive improvements under Sabri Lamouchi too – the Reds have won six of their first 11 games, and haven't lost in the league since their defeat to Albion way back in August.

One man who is bound to be delighted at both Forest and Albion's starts to the season is former midfielder Jonathan Greening, who enjoyed lengthy stays at both clubs during his playing days.

The 40-year-old spent six years at The Hawthorns after arriving from Middlesbrough in 2004 – he made over 220 appearances for the Baggies, before signing for Fulham in 2010.

After a somewhat frustrating spell at Craven Cottage, Greening signed for Forest in 2011, when they were managed by Steve McClaren. The midfielder made over 50 appearances for the Reds, during a three-year stay at the City Ground.

Greening has recently took to Instagram to reflect on his time at the City Ground, hailing the Trentside outfit as a "great club with great people".

Forest return to league action with a trip to the DW Stadium to face Wigan Athletic on Sunday afternoon.

The Verdict

It's nice to see Greening pay tribute to Forest after enjoying a happy time at the City Ground.

He was never the most talented of players, but he made up for it with his work-rate and desire in the middle of the park.

The club has made real strides since Greening played for them – they are now ran properly and only look to be going in one direction.

It's definitely exciting times to be a Forest supporter.

How is Bobby Reid getting on away from Cardiff City? We take a look

Cardiff forward Bobby Reid has made a solid start to life on loan with the Bluebirds' Championship rivals Fulham, despite having not yet managed to cement his place in Scott Parker's starting line-up.

Reid scored five goals in 27 Premier League appearances during his first season at Cardiff last term, but Neil Warnock then agreed for the former Bristol City man join Fulham on transfer deadline day back in August.

This came after Reid played the full 90 minutes during Cardiff's opening match of the season away at Wigan, with the 26-year-old then deciding to push for a move to join the Cottagers just days later.

The attacker has featured in every one of Fulham matches since joining his new side, excluding the clash with his parent club, which he has now made nine league appearances for the West London outfit.

However, he has only managed to make the starting line-up on four occasions in the league. Reid has struggled to cement a regular position in the Fulham side, despite delivering a series of largely impressive performances where he has been unlucky to have not yet found the net.

Parker has been deploying him in a variety of wide and central attacking areas, but he arguably delivered his best performance in a Fulham shirt when supporting Alexsandar Mitrovic in attack during their last outing.

Reid came off the bench against Charlton to play a starring role in Fulham's second-half performance which saw them secure a 2-2 draw with Lee Bowyer's side, and he should now be in contention for a starting place against Stoke this weekend.

The Bristol City youth product has taken some time to get up to speed with things at Craven Cottage, but he now seems ready to make a significant contribution to Fulham's promotion efforts this term.

2 tweaks Parker should consider making to his Fulham side ahead of Stoke clash

Fulham will be eager to break back into the Championship play-off places when they travel to Stoke City this weekend after the international break.

Scott Parker's side sit in seventh place, but know that a win will most likely be enough to see them climb into the coveted patch of the second-tier table.

However, Stoke will no doubt prove trickier customers than in previous weeks, having picked up their long awaited first win of the season on the road against Swansea two weeks ago.

The Whites will therefore need to be careful, and here are TWO changes that Parker should consider making for the trip...

Reid in

He was harshly dropped to the Fulham bench for their clash with Charlton but more than proved his worth off it, popping up with an assist as they drew 2-2.

One thing that Reid has fallen foul of his not knowing what his best position is, with Aleksandar Mitrovic understandably holding down the striking role.

But he is versatile enough to slot in elsewhere in the Fulham side, and I think it would be well worth Parker's while perhaps rotating him with Cavaleiro again or slotting him in behind the Serbian.

Rodak in

Bettinelli just has not been up to scratch so far this season and Parker has to show that he is picking his side on merit.

Rodak was excellent when given the chance in the League Cup against Southampton and it would be of benefit to the whole club if he were to be given a chance in the first-team.

Who knows? Maybe it will be just what Bettinelli needs to kick him in to gear. But regardless, it is a change that Parker has to consider ahead of the clash with Stoke.

How is Andre Anguissa getting on away from Fulham? We take a look

Fulham will be desperate to ensure that their stay back in the Championship is a short one following their emphatic relegation from the Premier League.

However, one player who will not be of any help in that quest is defensive midfielder Andre Anguissa, who made the move to Craven Cottage from Marseille for £22.5million last summer but never made the grade in his short spell in English.

21 appearances were made in his debut season but he could not manage a single goal or assist, nor could he provide adequate defensive protection, as the Whites were dumped from the top flight.

He is still owned by the South West Londoners, but was sent out on loan for the season, with the 23-year-old moving to La Liga with Villareal for the campaign.

But just how is he getting on?

In fairness to the Cameroonian, he appears to have rediscovered his form over in the Mediteranean climate, starting seven of the club's eight league matches and proving to be the defensive rock he couldn't for Fulham.

His pass accuracy for the season stands at a mighty 89% and he has won 50% of his duels as well as 63% of his aerial battles.

He is also currently making an average of just under four interceptions per game, a total of 26 for the season so it is safe to say that his underwhelming spell in England has given him the adequate kick in the right direction.

Was it a mistake Fulham loaned him out? No. He struggled in the English game and bringing in someone who knows that role like Harry Arter is always going to be smarter.

But at the same time, they may just be glad that he is only away on loan.

Stoke City man offers insight into dressing room mentality ahead of Fulham clash

Stoke City's Lee Gregory has explained how the dramatic win over Swansea last time out has raised spirits going into the weekend clash at Fulham.

Nathan Jones' side had been without a win in 11 Championship fixtures before Scott Hogan's late strike sealed all three points in Wales.

And, speaking to the club's media, summer signing Gregory revealed how it gave the players a real confidence boost as they moved to within three points of safety.

"Everyone came in on the Monday afterwards and we were all buzzing. It's something we've needed for a long time and credit to the lads, because we put a performance in. We knew that it was coming.

"We have a foundation to build on, we've got a great squad in there and I'm confident we can start moving forwards now."

Of course, it won't be an easy task for the Potters against Scott Parker's side who will arrive in Staffordshire just outside the play-offs and within three points of top spot.

Gregory faces a battle to keep his place in the XI with Hogan, who scored the decisive goal, and Sam Vokes both impressing when they came on against the Swans.

The verdict

This is a good insight from Gregory and it highlights just how big a relief it would have been for the players.

Those winless runs are really challenging for everyone and even when Stoke played quite well they somehow found a way to lose some games.

So, that will give them the confidence they needed and it's about building on that moving forward, although Fulham are not the team you want to be playing when you're searching for a rare home win.

2 Stoke City tweaks that Jones could make against Fulham on Saturday

Stoke City picked up their first win of the season in their final game before the international break, when they came from behind to beat Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

It was a much-needed win for the Potters and should have given the players a huge confidence boost going into the international break.

It was also a win that relieved some of the pressure on manager Nathan Jones, following a poor start to the season which saw Stoke take just two points from their opening ten matches in the Championship.

The Staffordshire outfit return to action this weekend following the two-week break but they face another tough game against promotion chasing Fulham at the Bet365 Stadium.

Here are TWO tweaks that Jones could make against Fulham...

Scott Hogan starts

Scott Hogan scored his second goal of the season for Stoke when he came off the bench against to net the dramatic winner against Swansea before the international break.

Not only was it a goal that gave the team their first win of the league season, but it should have also given his confidence a huge boost.

Hogan joined Stoke on a season-long from Aston Villa in the summer but has struggled to make an impact so far.

The striker has found minutes on the pitch hard to come by since joining Stoke and has featured off the bench in his last four appearances for the Potters.

After ending a run of four games without a goal against Swansea, he'll surely fancy his changes of starting against Fulham. This would mean either Tyrese Campbell or Lee Gregory dropping down to the bench.

James McClean returns at left-back

James McClean missed the win over Swansea with a back injury, which meant that Bruno Martins Indi was moved over to left-back and he did a good job in the position as Stoke picked up their first three points of the campaign.

McClean has struggled in his new role since being converted into a left-back by Jones at the beginning of the season, but you have to have a little bit of sympathy for him because it's not his natural position.

The 30-year-old played twice for the Republic of Ireland over the international break and is likely to return to action for Stoke at the weekend.

Even though it's not his natural position, there's every chance that Jones could still choose to start McClean at left-back against Fulham, despite Martins Indi doing a solid job against Swansea, as he gives the team more attacking threat.

'Crazy' - Stoke v Fulham result predicted

Stoke City news | The Potters take on the Cottagers at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday as they look to build on their first league win of the season

Stoke City will be hoping to build on their long-awaited first league win of the season when they resume their Sky Bet Championship campaign this weekend.

The Potters went into the two-week break on the back of a surprise 2-1 victory away to high-flying Swansea City.

Nathan Jones' men remain rooted to the bottom of the table - but will have been lifted by their previous result.

Fulham are seventh, just outside the play-off zone and only three points off the top.

Scott Parker's men are unbeaten in six games, though four of those have been draws.

Sky Sports EFL pundit David Prutton is predicting a 2-2 draw between the two sides at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

"What a result for Stoke and Nathan Jones that was before the international break," said Prutton.

"A winless side that are bottom of the table going to the league leaders and nicking a last-gasp victory just sums up this crazy division.

"Fulham start the weekend outside of the top six, but they are still just three points off the lead, which is more like where they need to be. Score draw here."

Sadiq Khan confirms two temporary options while Hammersmith Bridge is fixed

The Mayor described progress towards solving the problems with the city's ever first suspension bridge

A temporary river crossing may be coming to Hammersmith while its historic Victorian bridge undergoes major repair – and two options could be on the table.

Sadiq Khan confirmed at his monthly Mayor's Question Time today that Transport for London (TfL) and bridge owners Hammersmith & Fulham Council are investigating the feasibility of installing a short-term walking and cycling bridge, enabling repairs to Hammersmith Bridge to be completed more quickly.

And he agreed that TfL should also consider proposals just unveiled by marine engineering firm Beckett Rankine for an off-the-shelf temporary bridge that would also take vehicle traffic including buses.

The Beckett Rankine plan would cost £5 million, according to details revealed in New Civil Engineer magazine, while costings are being prepared for the walking and cycling bridge with a view to a decision "in the coming months", Khan told London Assembly Members.

Hammersmith Bridge, now Grade II* listed, was designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette, best-known for building London's first sewer system. The first suspension bridge on the Thames, constructed of cast iron, wrought iron and wooden plates, it was opened in 1887 by the Prince of Wales and the target of IRA bombs in 1939, 1996 and 2000.

The bridge was used by 22,000 cars and 1,800 buses daily in 2015, when bus use was restricted due to concerns about the elderly structure. It was closed to all motor vehicles in April this year after detailed surveys revealed micro-fractures in the iron casings of the pedestals holding its suspension cables in place, with ongoing wrangling between TfL and Hammersmith & Fulham over paying for repair work.

Mayor Khan confirmed that TfL had so far allocated £25 million for design and preliminary work on the bridge, ahead of the full repairs, which are estimated to take three years.

Hammersmith & Fulham announced the beginning of the works last month, and have pledged that the bridge will be "fully restored to its former glory", accommodating cars and buses as well as cyclists and pedestrians, though bus traffic may still be regulated.

"We are working hard with Hammersmith & Fulham to open the bridge," the Mayor said, warning that the project was "technically challenging". Discussions were underway with the council, the Department for Transport and heritage organisations to get funding in place, he added.

With initial estimates running to £120 million, the council has pledged that borough residents will not pay the full costs. "They pay enough already and this bridge is used by, and belongs to all Londoners," the council says on its website. "Hammersmith & Fulham Council is working with TfL to submit a bid to the government to fully fund the restoration of the one of the capital's most iconic river crossings."

Sky Bet Championship: The tightest league in the world?
Watch Cardiff vs Sheffield Wednesday live on Sky Sports Football from 7pm on Friday: Kick-off is at 7.45pm

West Brom, Fulham and Leeds are the three favourites for promotion this season

Liverpool's perfect start to the Premier League season and their eight-point lead at the top of the table have most fans believing it is already their title to lose – but things could not be any more different in the upper echelons of the Championship.

The top end of the second tier of English football is phenomenally congested, with a host of sides just one result away from either gate-crashing the play-off spots or tumbling out of them.

Indeed, Liverpool have double the cushion over second-placed Manchester City in the top flight than Championship front-runners West Brom have over Charlton in 10th.

The tightest league in Europe?
It is the tightest state of affairs in the entire Football League and also more competitive than any of the top five European leagues.

There are just four points separating the top 10 in the Championship, compared to 13 in the Premier League, nine in League One and eight in League Two.

It is tighter than La Liga, where seven points split the 10 best teams, Ligue 1, where the difference is nine points, and Serie A, where it is 10.

The only top league to get close is the Bundesliga, where the top 10 have six points separating them.

Is it tighter than in past seasons?
The top of the Championship has not been this tight after 11 games for five years (since the 2014/15 campaign), when Norwich led the way but were just four points clear of Brentford in 10th.

This time last season, Leeds were at the summit with 22 points, while 10th-placed Bristol City had racked up 16.

Of course, Leeds fell short of promotion come the end of the season and the side that ended up winning promotion via the play-offs - Aston Villa - were well off the pace in 13th.

Changing leaders
Eleven games in, and no one team has managed to keep a particularly firm hold of the baton.

Leeds were top after the first round of fixtures and Sheffield Wednesday after the second, before Marco Bielsa's side retook the lead and held it until game week six, when Swansea had a go.

West Brom didn't reach the summit until game week nine and gave it up immediately, falling back behind Swansea and Leeds before returning to the top.

As the season approaches its quarter-way mark, this Championship promotion battle is already shaping up to be one of the fiercest in recent memory.

Premier League drop-outs struggle to reassert themselves

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is the top scorer in the Championship with eight goals

Fulham, Cardiff and Huddersfield all have recent experience of the Championship but have each struggled to adapt to life back in the second tier.

Huddersfield were relegated from the Premier League in sorry fashion and their terrible form continued into this season under Jan Siewert, who was sacked after securing just one win in 19 games in charge at the John Smith's Stadium.

Danny Cowley took over from the beleaguered German boss and his side have won two on the bounce without conceding, but their terrible start means they are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Cardiff have stuck with Neil Warnock but have failed to pull up any trees so far this season, despite romping to 90 points and promotion last time they were in the Championship. The Bluebirds have won just four from their first 11 games and sit 11th, with the second-worst defensive record in the top half.

Fulham, led by former player Scott Parker, are faring best of the three - the west Londoners are seventh with 19 points, helped by eight goals from the league's top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic.

But they have struggled against some of their play-off rivals, beaten at home to Nottingham Forest and only managing a point against Charlton, West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday. They also fell to a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley, who are languishing just a point off the bottom.

Last year's nearly-rans
All of the sides who reached the play-offs last season made a strong case for promotion, but glory for eventual winners Aston Villa ultimately consigned Leeds, West Brom and Derby to at least one more year in the second tier.

Leeds, who finished third last season, made a blistering start to the new campaign with 13 points from the opening five matches. But they have just seven points and two wins from the last six - including defeats at Millwall, who were eight games without a win at the time, and Charlton.

Their inconsistent start is perhaps best summed up by the fact that one of those two wins came against leaders West Brom. The Baggies have been the most consistent of the three nearly-clubs from last season and have lost just once, but there are signs that old problems remain.

Last season saw them concede a whopping 62 goals, the most porous defensive record in the top half of the league, and Slaven Bilic's side have just one clean sheet from their first 11 games.

As for Derby, new boss Phillip Cocu has struggled to get any consistency out of his side since taking over from Frank Lampard. The Rams have only three league wins to their name so far and while his side have only lost twice, they have been held six times.

The resurgence of Swansea
It seems a long time ago that Brendan Rodgers had Swansea City playing pretty patterns in the Premier League, ditto Michael Laudrup lifting the League Cup at Wembley.

The Welsh club were relegated from the top flight at the end of the 2017/18 season and finished in mid-table in their first year back in the Championship, well off the play-off places.

But under Steve Cooper, who had only managed at youth level before this season, two unlikely heroes have emerged to help fire the Swans into fourth place. Spanish striker Borja Baston was a club-record signing from Atletico Madrid in 2016, arriving for £15.5m, but struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and has spent two years out on loan at Malaga and then Alaves.

Three years after he first arrived at the Liberty Stadium and he is finally making an impact, with six goals and an assist so far this season.

Another somewhat-forgotten man, Andre Ayew, has also made headlines. He seemed destined to leave the club permanently in the summer after a disappointing loan spell with Fenerbahce in Turkey, but has played his way back into contention at Swansea and scored the winner in a crucial 2-1 win at Charlton last month.

New bosses lead the way
West Brom and Nottingham Forest are first and second in the table, both with 22 points and both led by new managers in Bilic and Sabri Lamouchi.

The pair are managing in the Championship for the first time and appear to have made an immediate impact, with Lamouchi being named manager of the month for September.

Forest will hope this is the year that the investment from owner Evangelos Marinakis bears fruit, with plenty of new faces having arrived in the last few transfer windows.

Who will prevail?
So who will finish in the top two? According to Sky Bet, Leeds (4/9) and West Brom (Evens) are favourites to finish in the top two, while Fulham (6/5), Swansea (10/3) and Preston (4/1) are close behind.

Brentford may be labouring down in 17th in the table but they are still fancied at 9/2 for promotion, the same price as Nottingham Forest, who are currently second.

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele 'wants to return to English football amid interest from Everton' and Manchester United

Moussa Dembele reportedly wants an England return amid interest from clubs
Sportsmail reported earlier this month that Man United sent scouts to watch him
Ex-Fulham forward has bagged six goals in 10 appearances for Lyon this season

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele reportedly wants to return to English football amid interest from Premier League sides Everton and Manchester United.

Sportsmail reported earlier this month that the Red Devils sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in action against Saint-Etienne.

And now the former Fulham forward could be on his way back to England with the Frenchman keen on the idea, according to Football Insider.

Lyon forward Moussa Dembele reportedly wants to return to English football

The Toffees are reportedly monitoring Dembele, who made the move to Ligue 1 from Celtic for £20million in the summer of 2018.

Dembele has bagged six goals in 10 appearances as Lyon sit in 14th place after winning just two games out of nine.

The entire Everton team has scored just six goals in the Premier League this season while United are also lacking in firepower.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in need of attacking reinforcements following the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan last summer.

Dembele has four more years left on his current deal at Lyon and the French outfit are reportedly looking for £40m for their man.
