Quality

A word used  a lot in football these days. We supposedly have a lot of it compared to most sides in the division according to a fair number of Fulham fans . The PL is all about quality. Quality in the final third ,quality passes that open the opposition up, quality defending etc. It is interesting to see the quality players that we have brought in with Knockhart and Cavalero, and how they have performed so far this season.
An old adage in football is that you have to match the opposition for effort and graft in order  to be able to show that you have more quality than them. More often than  not quality on its own will not be enough. Sometimes this gets mixed up with the idea that `effort beats talent `. Something that I dont believe to be the case. Talent wins every time when the talented players put the work in,do the ugly stuff, get out of their comfort zone ,or however you want to put it.
Team effort comes from a group who want to work together ,believe in the same things ,and both succeed and fail together learning as they go along.
Combining the right amount of talent with effort sounds easy but its all about mind sets. Getting fired up for the fight whilst being ice-cool and brave in possession are not  an easy qualities to combine  in the fast tempo of championship matches.
Quality cant be turned on and off by a tap. It shows itself  instinctively as a result of doing the right things, getting the ball into the right areas etc. Sometimes this works sometimes it doesnt. To keep ahead of the game you need to fail ,but more importantly learn from those mistakes and react accordingly.
Its positive to have a lot of quality in your squad but it guarantees nothing and entitles you to even less. From what I am seeing I believe Scott Parker understands this , and yesterdays performance went some way to showing that the team is learning from their mistakes  but more importantly understanding the work effort that Parker is preaching , and how that is the prerequisite of a teams performance ,whoever the opposition, if you want to give ourself a chance to win football matches.

And this, good sir, is, in a nutshell, what separates the top teams from the rest of the pack.  Watch Liverpool, Man City, et al, and you see worlds of talent on the pitch.  But, in addition, you also see the 'work effort'.

Nice commentary.

The two Wolves goals this PM were simple enough finishes but were absolute quality.  Scary to think Wolves are near the foot of the table.
