Leeds United man attracting interest from Championship rivals

Leeds United have enjoyed a very successful 2019/20 season so far, currently sitting in second place in the Championship table, two points behind leaders West Bromwich Albion and five points clear of third place Fulham. But some fans are worried about the clubs lack of reported movement in readiness for the up and coming January transfer window.

In a season that follows one of such promise that ended up delivering so little, the fans of the Elland Road club will be looking ahead to a successful league position come May.

With main striker struggling for form at the start of the season, going some ten games without hitting the target, the Whites fans were very worried about old gremlins rearing their heads again with a flurry of missed chances threatening to derail a team who dominate every game in terms of possession and chances created, but since the turn  of November, Bamford's form improved.

Bamford (26) now has three goals in his last four games, with a total of seven as he sits as top scorer so far for Leeds United after nineteen matches, these goals accompanied with two assists also.

The fans at Leeds took to another player while Bamford struggled, Arsenal Loanee Eddie Nketiah, who has endeared himself by scoring some incredibly important goals, five in total, even though the 20-year-old has not started a single Championship match for the Whites and he offers a totally different different dynamic to his striking colleague, something with could be invaluable to Leeds' promotion chances this season.

But with the lack of starts, there has been rumours a plenty regarding the possibility of Arsenal recalling Nketiah in time to re-loan him to a different side in January and Bristol City are showing a real interest should this be the case, as reported in Hartlepool Mail this morning.

But Nketiah, who was on his way to Ashton Gate to talk about a loan move in pre-season, chose to drive straight past the Robins and head to Elland Road in order to secure a move to Leeds United once he heard of the interest.

Nketiah has also shown plenty of signs of being happy, despite the lack of starts, through his social media accounts, regularly posting to endear himself further to the masses in West Yorkshire.

Fulham monitor midfielder with 'Premier League future'

Fulham are considering a move for impressive Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes who has been tipped to be a 'future Premier League regular', according to reports from TWTD.co.uk.

The outlet reports that the Whites have monitored the 20-year-old over the opening four months of the season with Brian Talbot, Fulham's assistant director of football and chief scout, attending the Tractor Boy's recent cup tie with Lincoln City at Portman Road.

It is not yet clear whether or not Fulham are plotting a move to bring the youngster in during the January transfer window but it would be a big surprise if they have not been tempted following his start to the season.

In 13 League One appearance so far this season he has netted once and assisted one more, but his overall game in the middle of the park has been particularly impressive, controlling things in the middle of the park with a maturity beyond his years.

However, it is not a position Fulham are particularly short in.

With the likes of Harry Arter, Stefan Johansen, Harrison Reed, Josh Onomah, Tom Cairney and Bobby Decordova-Reid all at Scott Parker's disposal, central midfield is probably not an area of primary concern.

However, with Arter, Reed and Decordova-Reid all currently on loan, Downes would most likely represent a strong investment for future seasons.

The verdict

I think this would be a real coup for Fulham if they can pull it off.

Downes is a serious talent and playing in League One has clearly helped his confidence on the ball. With three of their first-team midfielders only on loan, it would be a seriously smart investment to bring him in.

He will most-likely cost a lot, however, with three years still remaining on his deal so it may be a case of waiting until the summer for that price to fall.

Every Player Counts

"Tennis at the LTA (how amazing), football at Motspur Park (every school kid's dream), tournaments in Birmingham (including the first team coach)...I could go on..."

As Graham Prisk, father of long-time Fulham Badgers participant Tom Prisk, reflects on the opportunities his son has explored, his appreciation and delight at his son's achievements are palpable.

Tom Prisk has played with the Fulham Badgers, the Foundation's Down's Syndrome football team for years. Recently, he completed a 12-week Traineeship with Fulham Foundation, learning to code and design websites, as well as core skills in photography and videography. Completing further courses in functional Maths and English, Tom was on his way to a work experience placement with Fulham FC.

From Craven Cottage Reception to the retail warehouse at Motspur Park, Tom impressed at every turn, taking each opportunity with fervour. Along the way, he formed friendships with his colleagues and players, most notably Denis Odoi.

Tom's journey with the Foundation, and his friendship with Denis, came full circle when they pictured together on the cover of Fulham FC Foundation's Matchday programme cover.

Tom remains an active member of the Foundation's programmes, attending the EFL Every Player Counts Adult Pan-Disability programme, in addition to Fulham Badgers. His development off the pitch continues, recently securing a job at Travers Smith LLP in Holburn.

Aston Villa 'favourites to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic in January'

Aston Villa are reportedly the favourites to sign Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic during the January transfer window.

The Serbia international has scored 15 goals in 18 Championship appearances for Fulham this season, with the west London club currently sitting in third position.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Villa are now favourites with the bookmakers to sign Mitrovic with first choice centre-forward Wesley having only scored four times in the Premier League so far this season.

The report states that with Jonathan Kodjia and Keinan Davis suffering from injury problems, Villa could be on the lookout for a new striker.

Villa currently sit in 15th place in the Premier League, three points clear of the relegation zone.

Villa did fight back to secure a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Sunday though, with goals from Jack Grealish and Tyrone Mings in either half earning them a valuable point.

Fulham interested in Ipswich Town midfielder

According to a report from TWTD, Championship outfit Fulham have been keeping a close eye on Ipswich Town's young midfielder Flynn Downes in the early stages of the season.

It has been reported by TWTD that ahead of the January transfer window, Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes has been watched over by Championship promotion hopefuls Fulham. The Cottagers' preparations for the January transfer window are well underway and with Chelsea defender Michael Hector already on his way to the club, Fulham could look to add some more in January.

And, one of the players reported to be on their radar is Ipswich midfielder Downes, who has enjoyed a thoroughly successful first half of the season with the high-flying Portman Road club. Fulham's assistant director of football operations and chief scout Brian Talbot is said to have been in attendance of the club's FA Cup clash with Lincoln City and they are continuing to monitor him as the transfer window nears.

Downes has started in 13 League games for the League One table-toppers so far, scoring one goal and providing one assist along the way. His form has seen him earn a place in the England Under-20s squad once again after making his debut for the team in November of last year. Downes has been tipped for a big future in the game, with many believing he has the potential to become a Premier League regular.

It will be interesting to see if the Tractor Boys are able to fend off the interest from Fulham this January as they look to keep Downes on board in their efforts to return to the Championship this season.

Report: QPR and Fulham planning Ipswich raid with Downes and Woolfenden targeted

Flynn Downes and Luke Woolfenden could be heading to the Championship with Queens Park Rangers and Fulham eyeing the Paul Lambert favourites.

Ipswich Town are at risk of losing two key players to the Championship next month with Fulham eyeing Flynn Downes and Queens Park Rangers setting their sights on Luke Woolfenden, as reported by Anglian publication TWTD.

Under the management of Paul Lambert, the Tractor Boys are chugging along nicely in League One and, as we approach the halfway stage of the season, are well placed to seal an immediate return to the Championship next May.

But the upcoming transfer window threatens to derail Ipswich's season with two of Portman Road's favourite sons earning some admiring glances from the capital.

Skilful playmaker Downes was scouted by Fulham's assistant director of football operations Brian Talbot during the FA Cup clash with Lincoln City, TWTD reports.

Brilliantly nicknamed 'Flynedine Zidownes' by some rather creative Ipswich supporters, the 20-year-old's eye for a pass and poise in possession appears to make him a perfect fit for an attractive, free-flowing Fulham outfit.

Fulham's West London rivals QPR have also sent scouts to Portman Road with Rangers keeping close tabs on 21-year-old centre-back Woolfenden.

He, like Downes, has risen through the ranks at Ipswich and Lambert's title-chasing side have kept seven clean sheets in the 13 league games in which Woolfenden has started.

QPR have conceded 37 goals in just 19 matches this season so it is no surprise that they are looking to strengthen a very obvious Achilles heel in January.

Fulham fans back calls for tribute to Benik Afobe during Bristol City game this weekend

The Robins make the trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday

Fulham Supporters Trust have backed calls for a minute's applause against Bristol City following the tragic death of Benik Afobe's daughter Amora.

Robins supporters have come up with the idea of a minute's applause during their trip to Craven Cottage in memory of Amora, who passed away on Friday evening aged just two years old.

Football came together to show support for Afobe at the weekend, with his former club Wolverhampton Wanderers wearing black armbands as a sign of respect.

Bristol City are planning their own official tribute at a future home game, but the Robins make the trip to Fulham on Saturday for their first game since the tragic news broke on Sunday morning.

As such, Robins supporters have come up with the idea of applause in the second minute on Saturday.

City fans have arranged the tribute on social media, and now Fulham Supporters Trust have encouraged the home support at Craven Cottage to join in on Saturday.

They said: "Football is the game it is because of the passion of rivalries and intensity of the competition - particularly when both teams are vying for promotion.

"But tragic events like the sad, sudden death of Benik Afobe's young daughter put all of that into perspective.

"Any fan who is a parent or sibling will struggle to comprehend the sense of loss Benik and his family are feeling now - and all decent fans will feel for them.

"That's why the simple gesture of a minute's applause at the weekend goes beyond any on pitch rivalry, and the Fulham Supporters Trust encourages Fulham fans to join in with Bristol City supporters in a minutes applause as a gesture of condolence, solidarity and sympathy during the second minute of the game on Saturday."

Fulham man tipped for big career move

Live on TalkSport, Jamie O'Hara has tipped his former team-mate Scott Parker to be the manager of England one day.

The pair both played together while at Fulham from 2015-2016, where Parker is now manager, as the two central midfielders formed a good pairing in the centre of the park.

39-year-old Parker has been in charge of Fulham since February 2019 where he was first appointed as the club's caretaker manager following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri, and was handed the reins on a permanent basis in May 2019, following relegation from the Premier League.

The new manager has managed Fulham through 30 games during his managerial career so far, having won 13, drawn five and lost 12 at Craven Cottage.

Parker has assembled a good squad at Craven Cottage to try and get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, with the likes of Harry Arter, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Steven Sessegnon and Tom Cairney all impressing so far this season.

During his playing career, Parker pulled on the shirt of England 18 times as the tough-tackling central midfielder was even lucky enough to captain his nation on one occasion, when the Netherlands visited Wembley in 2012 for a friendly.

The Verdict

Parker may be slightly too inexperienced to manage England in the next few years, but if he can do wonders at Fulham and resemble the success that Chris Wilder has had at Sheffield United, then he could manage his nation one day.

The claim made by O'Hara was a bold one with his former team-mate having not been in management for a year, but he has clearly seen something in his ability to take a top role in the future.

Amid social media comments Fulham fans will hope key figure is going to stay put

Fulham manager Scott Parker has been favoured by some West Ham fans on social media to replace Manuel Pelligrini should he be sacked by the club, but should it worry Fulham fans?

Sitting in 3rd-place of the Championship on the back of a four-game winning streak, Fulham and Scott Parker have a lot to look forward to this season.

Hopes were high going into this season despite relegation from the Premier League in the last. Parker brought in a host top-flight players on loan and started off the campaign relatively well.

A sticky patch followed through September and October, though, which saw Fulham draw a lot of winnable games, and they slowly but surely slipped out of the top-six.

Parker's position was under scrutiny for a short period of time but he held his nerve and quickly turned around his fortunes at the club he played over 120 games for.

Now another former club of Parker's, West Ham, could potentially look to change manager in the near future if they can't build on their weekend win at Stamford Bridge.

West Ham were expected to be challenging for a Europa League spot under Pelligrini this season but Hammers fans are set to oversee another bleak, mid-table campaign at best season.

A 1-0 win over Chelsea at the weekend has eased some of the pressure on the Chilean but that was their first in seven league games and Pelligrini remains a man under the spotlight.

Hammers fans have taken to social media in recent weeks to vent their dismay at Pelligrini and have started to throw names in the hat for who should replace him, and club legend Parker has been banded around:

Parker, now 39, spent five seasons with the club between 2007 and 2012 and remains one of only two West Ham players to be named Football Writers' Footballer of the Year in 2011 – the other being Bobby Moore.

The Fulham boss is certainly hailed across the capital, but would he want to leave Craven Cottage?

As a player or a manager, a call from the Premier League rarely goes unanswered and few could blame Parker if he did make the move. But he has a good thing going at Fulham – the fans adore him and his style of play has really availed on the team in recent fixtures.

For now, Fulham fans shouldn't be too concerned about the future of their manager. He's still in his first full season in management and still learning the trade – the best thing for Fulham fans right now would be for Pelligrini to turn things around at West Ham and quash the Parker rumours.

Fulham on Monday night scouting mission – Ricardo Horta looks a reasonable target

Although Braga aren't normally a club who attract a lot of scouts from other countries, their game against Rio Ave brought several officials to their stadium last night.

One of the emissaries at the game works for Fulham, according to newspaper A Bola, although his target in this match isn't reported.

Braga were the favourites for this clash and didn't disappoint the home fans, winning the game 2-0, with goals scored by Paulinho and Ricardo Horta. But more players impressed for the home side, especially Pablo Santos, Nuno Sequeira and Fransérgio.

Fulham and Braga definitely have a good communication since they've worked on the transfer of Rui Fonte to the Portuguese side last summer.

The striker was brought on in the second half, and made an assist for the second goal, and there's no suggestion Fulham were watching him, and no reason for them to do so.

The game also had scouts from Eintracht Frankfurt, Montpellier, Sampdoria, Atalanta, Bournemouth, Brighton and Genk.

Ricardo Horta looks like a reasonable target, although he extended his contract in September.

The 25 year old winger now has a €30m buyout clause, but it's likely he'd be available for less.

'Crush them' – Plenty of Fulham fans feeling punchy after Aston Villa news

Scott Parker's Fulham are in fine form at present, with the Cottagers having lost just one of their last five league outings, things are looking good for the west Londoners as the season approaches its halfway stage.

Given that his side are up to third in the league with a three point gap over their fellow play-off chasers, Parker will now surely be keen to continue his side's progress into the new year, as well as putting some focus on their upcoming FA Cup tie against Premier League Aston Villa.

The tie between the two sides reignites something of a rivalry between the two sets of supporters, which of course dates back to when the Whites beat Villa 1-0 in the Championship play-off final back in 2018, thanks to Tom Cairney's crisp finish.

Supporters were quick to take to Twitter to react to the news of the draw and here we take a look at the best reactions from Fulham fans to the news via social media.

1 winner and 1 loser if Fulham pull off future deal for midfield transfer target

The January transfer window is now just a matter of weeks away and Fulham have already been lining up their potential targets.

TWTD reported on Tuesday that the Whites have monitored the 20-year-old over the opening four months of the season with Brian Talbot, Fulham's assistant director of football and chief scout, attending the Tractor Boy's recent cup tie with Lincoln City at Portman Road.

So, if he is to arrive, who would the winners and losers be at Fulham?

Aleksandar Mitrovic

The Serbian has been on predictably brilliant form so far this season and a lot of credit for that has to go down to the current midfield unit at the club.

Competition is fierce, with the likes of Tom Cairney, Stefan Johansen, Harrison Reed, Bobby Reid and Josh Onomah all vying for starting births.

Adding Downes to the mix would only lead to even more competition and, most likely, and even higher level of creative output, leaving Mitro to gobble up the chances.

Josh Onomah

He was given a start against Swansea City on Friday night and played okay, but he remains furthest down the pecking order with the Whites.

Cairney and Johansen seem to have nailed their places down with Reed appearing to be Parker's preferred option between the experienced duo.

Downes arrival would heighten the prospect of Onomah falling out of immediate candidacy for a start altogether and is something that he would surely rather avoid.

'One word, opportunistic' – Fulham fan pundit evaluates club star's recent performance

This article is part of Football League World's 'Regular Punter' series, where we gather original opinions from select, passionate fans of the clubs concerned on matters surrounding their team and share them with a wider audience...

Football League World's Fulham fan pundit Charles Jones has commented on Aleksandar Mitrovic's performance against Swansea City last Friday, with the big Serb scoring twice to take all three points back to west London.

The former Newcastle United man has been in fine form for the Cottagers so far, netting an impressive 15 goals in just 18 Championship outings for the Craven Cottage outfit.

His performances have once again underlined how important he is to Fulham's promotion chances this term, as they look to right the wrongs of last campaign.

He once again proved to be the match winner for his side last week and we caught up with Jones following the game to ask for his thoughts on how the towering forward performed at the Liberty Stadium:

"One word, opportunistic.

"It wasn't a vintage performance from Mitrovic by any stretch, but he got two goals and won us the game.

"The goals were rather calamitous as he nodded in a rebound and made the most of a mis-hit shot from Josh Onomah, but the fact that he was in the right place at the right time got us all three points.

"In all honesty, he didn't look at his best against the Swans, but he did exactly what was needed for us to get a vital away win."

Jones then spoke of how he feels Mitrovic has improved since he first moved to Craven Cottage from Newcastle United:

"This is a real tough one because he's always been brilliant.

"I'd have to say that he has improved marginally since he first joined the club in January 2018 though.

"The club were going through a 23-game unbeaten run when Mitrovic first arrived, so he had it quite easy to the point where chances were being put on a plate for him in every game, but since then it's gotten tougher for him due to fewer chances being created, yet he's continuing to score at a ridiculous rate.

"He's a fantastic striker, and he seemingly is only getting better."

As we head towards the halfway point of the season, it is clear that Mitrovic is head and shoulders above most players in his position at Championship level and the 25-year-old will almost certainly play a decisive role in whether Fulham achieve their goal for promotion or not.

The Sean Davis Column

It's fantastic to string four wins together, especially after what happened in the Hull game. It just shows the lads have listened, they've thrashed out whatever went wrong and shown character to move on from that game. We needed a reaction, and the reaction has been the best it could possibly be. Sometimes a defeat can do that, spark something, get you back to basics.

Taking three points away at Swansea City was an excellent result last time out. It's always better when you're beating a team that's competing for the same as you, and to do it on their patch as well is extra special. It was pleasing to see us hold on after they got one back. I saw the interview with Scotty after the game and thought he was bang on when he was talking about that 20 minute period where we didn't go gung-ho, shut up shop a little bit and made sure we took the points back to London. It shows that the lads can dig in away from home, where we're not going to dominate for 90 minutes, and get positive results.

Mitro bagged another two to take him to 15 league goals for the season, which is crazy, just crazy. He's so vital, but the reassuring thing for me was that when he did miss a game, Aboubakar Kamara came in and scored a brace himself. Abou has been fantastic since he was given a chance, he's kept the shirt and rewarded Scotty for his faith with an assist against Derby and then another one – of sorts – at Swansea. There's always an excitement about him, like in the Derby match when he took it down on his chest about 10 feet up in the air before flicking it round someone. His attitude and his energy reminds me a little bit of Luis Boa Morte. They're not the same player by any stretch of the imagination, but the way he goes about it and his aggression in his play does remind me a little bit of Boa.

We've got Bristol City at the Cottage next, and while they had a very good win on Saturday, their form isn't actually that great, they've drawn a lot of matches this season. It's always going to be a tough game, though. I like their manager Lee Johnson, I think he's done a good job. They're a club that brings players in and sells them on, and they've brought some good players in again this year, Kasey Palmer and people like that. It's going to be a tough one but if we can carry on with the form we're in and the lads go into it with the highest of confidence, then hopefully we'll win again.

We're in a much better position than we have been for years in the Championship. I don't think this team will get carried away, I think they've got that hunger and desire about them, rather than arrogance or cockiness. I do believe this team is more than capable of going on to win the Championship. With the players and characters we've got, why not? In my opinion this team is better than the one that was in the Premier League. The players and staff will take each game as it comes, work their socks off and be professional, but in the back of their minds the aspiration will be there to at least get in the top-two.

I hope you've seen The Monday Night Fulham Fix which has been on FFCtv recently. It's been really good and such a laugh filming. We had Joe Bryan in the first show which was good to get that insight of a current player as to what it's like in the dressing room at the moment. And this week I was back with my good old mate Gentleman Jim who's always a pleasure to be around. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and certainly the biggest Fulham fan I know, so it's well worth a listen to hear what he's got to say. I'm really enjoying being part of it and hopefully it runs for a long time.

Experienced Fulham pro will surely feel threatened by latest transfer news

This article is part of Football League World's 'Player view' series, this content strand is where we put ourselves in the shoes of a given player, and offer an opinion-based outlook on the perspective on the situation at hand...

With the halfway stage of the season fast approaching, teams will be starting to reflect on and assess their performances thus far.

For Fulham, they will be most satisfied.

Plunged back into the Championship following a disastrous Premier League return, the Whites have adapted to the second-tier expertly, with Scott Parker appearing more and more accomplished a manager with each week.

But do not expect them to be quiet in January. In fact, a fresh target of their's emerged on Tuesday in the shape of exciting Ipswich midfielder Flynn Downes.

TWTD reported on Tuesday that the Whites have monitored the 20-year-old over the opening four months of the season with Brian Talbot, Fulham's assistant director of football and chief scout, attending the Tractor Boy's recent cup tie with Lincoln City at Portman Road.

It is not yet clear whether or not Fulham are plotting a move to bring the youngster in during the January transfer window but it would be a big surprise if they have not been tempted following his start to the season.

However, it is not a position that the Whites are short on, with the likes of Stefan Johansen, Tom Cairney, Harrison Reed, Josh Onomah and Bobby Decordova-Reid keeping the area well occupied.

And one player who will surely be dreading Downes' potential arrival more than anyone esle is the experienced Harry Arter.

The Irishman has tumbled down the pecking order in recent weeks thanks to a shinbone injury. He hasn't played a minute the 2-0 defeat to Stoke back in October.

As a result, he has played no part in Fulham's brilliant run of five wins in their last seven games, helping them move to within spitting distance of the top-two.

Given his experience, Arter will of course be confident that he still has something to offer at Craven Cottage, but he will also surely feel threatened by the potential arrival of Downes – an exciting youngster who, if he impresses, could completely usurp Arter.

The Ipswich links are interesting. If we do sign their two players, Hector comes in and looking across the various loan deals, loan to buy sort of stuff it would appear our recruitment strategy has had a massive overhaul. Onamah remains the quandary but many coaches had high hopes for him so who knows.
Saying that though and without looking at the silly season thread I suppose anything is still possible this side of January 31st.

That much favourites sky bet don't even have odds on a Mitro Transfer

YankeeJim

The rumor mill in English football never ceases to amaze me.
Now, being 8 time zones away, I have little access to League 1 so know little of those players. Never having heard of Flynn Downes, I'm a little surprised at the numerous stories about this lad transferring to Fulham. The same wonderment attaches to all the Mitro to Villa stories. Having read them all It is as if the journalist all met for a pint and then went out and wrote the same story. There is little difference between the themes in either stories.
Do these guys just make things up?
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.
