Everton and AS Monaco linked with Fulham midfielder

Everton and AS Monaco are being linked with a move for Fulham midfielder Jean Michael Seri.

The 28-year-old could leave Craven Cottage on a permanent basis in the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report by Foot Mercato.

Seri is currently on loan at Galatasaray but is struggling for game time in the Turkish Super Lig.

The new Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is believed to be a fan of the midfielder and could move for him next month to add more options and depth into his newly inherited squad.

Seri, who is an Ivory Coast international with 28 caps to his name so far in his career, joined the London side in July 2018 from OGC Nice for a fee of around £25 million.

However, he could not prevent Fulham from being relegated from the Premier League in his first season at the club and he was subsequently shipped out on loan to Galatasaray over the summer. He still has three years left on his contract with Scott Parker's side.

Seri started his career in his native country with Africa Sports d'Abidjan before he joined ASEC Mimosas as a youngster in 2010. Seri was signed on loan by FC Porto's B team three years later and played 19 times for them in the Portuguese Segunda division.

He was then snapped up by Primeira Liga side Pacos de Ferreira and spent two years playing for them, making 68 appearances altogether.

Fulham saw off plenty of competition to land him last year and he was seen as a massive coup at the time.

Fulham handed boost ahead of Stoke City clash

The Potters are in Sky Bet Championship action at Craven Cottage on Sunday in their final match of the year

Denis Odoi in action for Fulham

Fulham will be boosted by the return of defender Denis Odoi for Sunday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Stoke City.

Odoi is available for the match at Craven Cottage after completing a three-match suspension.

The 31-year-old has made 14 appearances for Scott Parker's side in the Championship this season.

But he has not been able to feature since he was sent off in the 2-1 defeat at Preston North End on December 10.

In his absence, Fulham have lost 1-0 at Brentford, beat Leeds United 2-1 and, most recently, drawn 3-3 at Luton Town.

Elsewhere, Harry Arter has yet to make his comeback from an injury that has kept him sidelined since mid-October, while Maxime Le Marchand is also pushing for a return.

As for Stoke, James McClean (hamstring) and Sam Clucas (foot) are carrying injuries but bos Michael O'Neill hopes both will be available.

Ryan Shawcross completed 90 minutes for the first time this season last time out following an ankle injury.

Parker: Tough Game Ahead

Scott Parker thinks momentum is still with Fulham after watching his side salvage a point on Thursday.

The Whites demonstrated their powers of recovery to come from behind three times at Luton Town, and Parker is keen to add to the four points picked up from our two matches already played in the festive period.

"I think the most important thing is we didn't get beat at Luton," he told FFCtv. "Coming out of a good result against Leeds where we won the game, it was important that we didn't lose, especially that late on in the game when it felt like we might be on the end of a loss.

"This league throws up many surprises, and I often say it's a long, drawn out season and along the way there are going to be some bumps, especially when you're a Premier League relegated team coming into this division, compared to the established sides who have been around the Championship for some time.

"If we can go and get a couple of good results in the next few weeks then it puts us in a good place."

Fulham can end the year on a high this Sunday when Stoke City visit Craven Cottage, but the Potters will be in good spirits after two stoppage time goals earned them a 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday last time out.

"They had a big result on Boxing Day," Parker said. "Some late goals for them to win the game, and they're a very good side.

"They were a Premier League team only a few years ago, who still have Premier League football players in their team; [Ryan] Shawcross, Joe Allen, people like this.

"These are players who have been around the Premier League at top clubs. Like I said last time we played them, it's going to be a tough game, and I suspect the weekend will be no different."

Stoke City predicted to end year back in relegation zone

The Potters round off 2019 with a trip to Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls Fulham

Stoke City face a tough-looking trip to promotion-chasing Fulham in their final match of 2019.

The Potters are in Sky Bet Championship action at Craven Cottage on Sunday (December 29, 3pm).

Michael O'Neill's men climbed out of the relegation zone - on goal difference - courtesy of a dramatic 3-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day.

However, Sky Sports' EFL pundit David Prutton is predicting that they will end the year back in the bottom three.

Prutton reckons Stoke will lose 1-0 at Fulham, while he is backing third-from-bottom Luton Town to pick up a 2-2 draw at Bristol City, which would see them leapfrog the Potters.

"Fulham still just don't look like the full sum of their parts," he said. "Although they got a late draw at Luton on Boxing Day, it's really the type of game they need to be winning.

"Stoke got a huge comeback win over Sheffield Wednesday and are out of the relegation zone for the first time in a very long time.

"I don't see them getting anything from the Cottage, though."

Prutton is also predicting defeats for the bottom two sides - Wigan Athletic at Nottingham Forest (1-0), and Barnsley at Swansea City (2-1).

Davies lands Fulham clash for second time

Match officials announced for Craven Cottage clash
Andy Davies to be in the middle in South West London
Second Stoke City/Fulham fixture selection of the season

Having taken charge of the meeting between Stoke City and Fulham at the bet365 Stadium earlier this season, Andy Davies will oversee proceedings once again in the reverse fixture tomorrow afternoon.

The Hampshire-based official was in the middle as the Potters claimed their first home victory of the season in October thanks to goals from Tyrese Campbell and Lee Gregory.

The clash in North Staffordshire saw Davies brandish four yellow cards and award a single penalty, from which Gregory netted and wrapped up a 2-0 victory against the Cottagers.

That match is one of 19 that the experienced official has overseen this season across five different competitions – Championship, League One, FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy.

Across those fixtures he has shown 62 yellows, two reds and pointed to the penalty spot on no fewer than eight occasions.

His most recent outing was before Christmas as he presided over events at the John Smith's Stadium where Huddersfield Town secured a 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest.

Assisting Davies at Craven Cottage will be Darren Blunden and Steven Meredith, while Neil Hair will act as the fourth official.

'Big' - Fulham boss Scott Parker delivers his verdict on Stoke City

The former England international has been looking ahead to Sunday's Sky Bet Championship showdown with the Potters at Craven Cottage

Fulham boss Scott Parker is wary of opponents Stoke City following their dramatic victory on Boxing Day.

Stoke scored two late goals to come from behind and beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-2 at the bet365 Stadium.

The result lifted Michael O'Neill's men out of the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone on goal difference.

They will hoping to build on that victory when they take on Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday (December 29, 3pm).

"They had a big result on Boxing Day - some late goals for them to win the game - and they're a very good side," Parker told FFCtv.

"They were a Premier League team only a few years ago, who still have Premier League football players in their team - (Ryan) Shawcross, Joe Allen, people like this.

"These are players who have been around the Premier League at top clubs.

"Like I said last time we played them, it's going to be a tough game, and I suspect the weekend will be no different."

In beating Wednesday, Stoke leapfrogged Luton Town, who drew 3-3 with Fulham at Kenilworth Road on Boxing Day.

The fifth-placed visitors needed a last-gasp equaliser from Bobby Decordova-Reid to salvage a point.

"I think the most important thing is we didn't get beat at Luton," Parker added.

"Coming out of a good result against Leeds where we won the game, it was important that we didn't lose, especially that late on in the game when it felt like we might be on the end of a loss.

Ryan Shawcross sets challenge for Stoke squad ahead of Fulham clash

Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross has said he and his players must push on following the 3-2 dramatic win over Sheffield Wednesday.

The pressure was firmly on Michael O'Neill's side to produce a good performance on Boxing Day and they did just that, winning a dramatic five-goal thriller with Sheffield Wednesday.

James McClean gave Stoke a 1-0 lead as early as the 11th minute, but goals from Morgan Fox and Tom Lees saw the Owls take a 2-1 lead into the stoppage time.

Substitutes Tyrese Campbell and Sam Vokes were hauled on by O'Neill and both bagged a goal in the dying minutes to seal a superb win for the Potters.

Shawcross, who featured from the start for Stoke, performed well alongside Danny Batth, and the former England international has now spoken of the need to use the 3-2 win as a stepping stone for a better half of the season.

"We've shown in the past we will win a game but then lose straight away so it's important that with this win we go to Fulham and at least pick up a point," the 32-year-old expressed via the club's official website. "There's no disappointment in going there and doing that.

"We've lost too many matches this season and from good situations too, so after a great win we need to now need to make sure our form up to February/March is really good so we can push up the table."

Stoke will close out the year with the game against Fulham on Sunday, before meeting Huddersfield on New Years Day.

O'Neill's side currently sit 21st in the Championship table and four points off Huddersfield, who are in 20th.

The Verdict

Stoke have now done this a few times, creating late drama at the Bet365 Stadium – but they have failed to push on from it and build consistency.

Sitting bottom before the Boxing Day fixture, Stoke must avoid another defeat before 2019 closes out.

Shawcross is fully fit now and having his presence back in the side is just what O'Neill needs as the push away from the relegation places takes shape.

Fulham boss issues firm warning ahead of Stoke City clash

Fulham boss Scott Parker has touched on Sunday's fixture with Stoke City, warning his players of their opponents qualities.

Michael O'Neill's Stoke side have struggled this term to build consistency and find results, seeing themselves sit rock bottom of the Championship table heading into the Boxing Day fixture with Sheffield Wednesday.

A win against the Owls was somewhat of a shock result in the league, but it saw the Potters move up to 21st and go within four points of safety.

Sunday's game against Fulham at Craven Cottage will offer another test to O'Neill's side, with the home side sitting fifth in the league table and very much looking like promotion candidates.

Heading into the game, Cottagers boss Parker has touched on Stoke and warned of their threat.

"They had a big result on Boxing Day – some late goals for them to win the game – and they're a very good side," Parker told FFCtv.

"They were a Premier League team only a few years ago, who still have Premier League football players in their team – (Ryan) Shawcross, Joe Allen, people like this.

"These are players who have been around the Premier League at top clubs.

"Like I said last time we played them, it's going to be a tough game, and I suspect the weekend will be no different."

Fulham will be looking for another win which would see them move on to 42 points, and this could potentially take them to third place if results go in their favour.

The Verdict

Stoke did the unthinkable against Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day, but the challenge against Fulham could be too far for O'Neill's side at the moment.

Fulham are looking increasingly better, despite early season criticism on Parker's shoulders and they sit nicely in a play-off place.

Of course, the threat of losing Alexander Mitrovic is a shadow the club do not want to have.

30-y/o in: The Stoke City XI that O'Neill should play v Fulham on Sunday

Stoke City travel to Fulham on Sunday looking to build on their dramatic 3-2 win against Sheffield Wednesday at the Bet365 Stadium on Boxing Day.

The win moved Michael O'Neill's side out of the bottom three on goal difference, with two goals in stoppage time from substitutes Tyrese Campbell and Sam Vokes helping them come from 2-1 down to secure the three points.

It means that O'Neill has now secured four wins from his first nine Championship matches in charge, with Stoke having won just two of their opening 15 games of the campaign, and it will give them a platform to build on as they look to find some form during the second half of the season.

Securing back-to-back wins at Fulham will not be an easy task for O'Neill's side with Scott Parker's side having shown their quality by beating Leeds United 2-1 in their last home match, while they also managed to rescue a late point in their own dramatic Boxing Day encounter holding Luton Town to a 3-3 draw.

Although, Stoke will be boosted by the fact that Fulham have only won one of their last five Championship matches, which has seen them lose ground on the automatic promotion places, and the Potters will be looking to do more damage to their promotion hopes on Sunday.

Here then, we take a look at the XI that O'Neill should name for the Potters' trip to Fulham on Sunday...

Having secure a vital victory last time out, O'Neill will not be wanting to change too much from his line-up that started the win against the Owls, with the Northern Irishman highly likely to stick with his preferred 4-3-3 formation.

Jack Butland should start in goal again having now firmly re-established himself as the club's number one keeper under O'Neill, and the England international has been slowly getting back towards his best form over the last few weeks, with the keeper likely to be busy against one of the Championship's strongest attacking teams in Fulham.

Tommy Smith is likely to start having kept his place in the side for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday, after being handed a start at Middlesbrough, and the defender produced a largely solid performance against the Owls and delivered a few decent crosses into the area, while Stephen Ward should also keep his place at left-back.

O'Neill faces the difficult decision over whether to keep Ryan Shawcross in the starting line-up, after the defender came back into the side for the win against Sheffield Wednesday, but having just returned from injury it might be a risk to have him play two games in four days, though if he is fit enough he should partner Danny Batth again at centre-half.

The Northern Irishman is likely to stick with the midfield three of Joe Allen, Sam Clucas and Jordan Cousins, with the trio forming an effective understanding over the last few matches and establishing themselves as the club's first choice options in the centre of midfield.

James McClean has to keep his place on the left-hand side after firing the Potters in front against Sheffield Wednesday and being one of their most creative players again on Boxing Day, while Tom Ince is likely to keep his place with the boss keeping his faith in the right-winger despite his lack of recent output.

However, O'Neill could decide to recall Sam Vokes back into the starting line-up in place of Lee Gregory, after the Welshman came off the bench to score the late winner against Sheffield Wednesday, while Campbell will also be pushing for a start after his performance from the bench on Boxing Day.

"Fulham want him" – Manager claims Championship side want his protégé

Fulham are keen on Esteghlal forward Medhi Ghaedi, according to the club's former manager Andrea Stramaccioni.

20-year-old Ghaedi, a forward who can play on either wing but is currently operating in a central role, has clearly shown enough to impress the Championship side.

They are currently fifth in the table, nine points outside of the top two but firmly in line for a play-off place under Scott Parker's leadership.

Additions may arrive in the January transfer window to help with a push for a top-six finish, and according to Stramaccioni, Ghaedi is one they are looking at.

The Italian boss has just returned from six months in charge of Eseghlal after a disagreement over the transfer of his salary brought a premature end to his spell at the club.

Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, he was discussing his time at the Iranian club and his most significant achievement, Medhi Ghaedi.

"One of my greatest satisfactions is having contributed to the growth of Mehdi Ghaedi," he told the newspaper.

"He is a twenty-year-old boy, last year he played only four games. He was the left-winger, I changed his role, convincing him to make the second striker.

"It was not easy: he's a niche player. The captain came to me to say: mister, leave it alone.

"Instead I insisted, thinking of players of his size like Papu Gomez, Di Natale or Giovinco.

"If they see the goal they become devastating.

"Now he is the top scorer of the championship and Fulham want him."

O'Neill previews Craven Cottage clash

Boss looks ahead to tomorrow's match against Fulham
Potters travel south off the back of Boxing Day victory
Manager keen for side to back up result in the capital

Michael O'Neill expects his side to face another stern examination tomorrow afternoon but believes they are capable of picking up a result against Fulham.

The Potters head to South West London aiming to build on an impressive 3-2 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Thursday, secured thanks to two injury time goals.

The Owls headed into the Boxing Day clash in third place, while tomorrow's hosts currently sit fourth in the Championship table at the midway point of the season.

O'Neill is acutely aware of the qualities the Cottagers possess, however feels that the Potters can enter the clash with a sense of belief that they can earn something from their trip to the capital.

"It will be another very tough test against a team towards the top of the league," the 50-year-old expressed to Stoke City+.

"Outside of probably Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion though I don't think there is an awful lot between the teams.

"We are trying to make up for a bad start obviously but we can go down there with a bit of confidence having gained some sort of momentum, losing just one of our last four games.

"We can go to Fulham now and try to pick something up from what we already know will be a very difficult game."

In terms of injuries heading into the clash at Craven Cottage, O'Neill added: "I think we will be OK.

"James (McClean) is a concern however, as is Sam Clucas, but every week they have turned themselves around and put themselves out there for selection and that's what we need in the building.

"We need players who care about the situation and players who care that the Club stays in the division, that's all I can ask.

"I think on Thursday we saw that from the team. I've consistently tried to put out as honest and hardworking team as possible and that paid dividends on Thursday."

Fulham v Stoke City
SUN 29 Dec 2019  Championship
Venue: Craven Cottage

Denis Odoi is back from a three-match ban for Fulham

Fulham defender Denis Odoi is available following suspension having missed the past three Championship games.

Cottagers boss Scott Parker has been waiting for his brother-in-law Harry Arter to return from injury, as well as defender Maxime Le Marchand.

Stoke City have a few knocks from their thrilling 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Boxing Day.

James McClean and Sam Clucas had been nursing hamstring and foot injuries respectively but played the 90 minutes.

The Potters' sixth league win of the season - and their fourth in nine games under new boss Michael O'Neill - lifted them out of the drop zone, to 21st.

But they start the day 16 places - and 18 points - behind fifth-placed Fulham, who came back to force a late 3-3 draw at Stoke's relegation rivals Luton on Boxing Day.

Match facts

Fulham's 2-0 away defeat on 19 October, Stoke's first home win of the season and their last under previous boss Nathan Jones, is the most recent of the Cottagers' three straight losses to the Potters.
Stoke are looking to complete a league double over Fulham for the first time since the 2009-10 Premier League campaign.
Fulham have won three of their last four Championship home games, as many as they did in the previous seven games at Craven Cottage.
Stoke are on a three-game losing streak away from home in the Championship. They last lost four in a row on their travels in the second tier in a run of five straight away league losses under Johan Boskamp (December 2005-March 2006).
Aleksandar Mitrovic, the Championship's 18-goal top scorer, has been directly involved in 10 goals in 11 home league games this season (nine goals, one assist).
Sam Clucas is the only Stoke player to have scored more than one goal away from home in the Championship this season. Four of his six league goals in 2019-20 have come on the road.

Stoke City look for Fulham away joy as leader welcomed back to squad

Stoke City matchday live | The Potters return to Championship action after their dramatic win over Sheffield Wednesday and head to the capital looking for a win against Fulham

Stoke City are back in Sky Bet Championship action this afternoon as they look to pull clear of relegation trouble.

Michael O'Neill's side moved out of the drop zone on Boxing Day with a dramatic victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the bet365 Stadium.

The Potters had trailed 2-1 to Garry Monk's Owls going into second-half stoppage time, but a stunning late comeback saw them turn the game on its head and secure a 3-2 victory.

Super subs Tyrese Campbell and Sam Vokes got the goals - in the 93rd and 97th-minutes respectively, to move Stoke out of the bottom three on goal difference.

That is something they will be looking to maintain when they head to the capital this afternoon to take on promotion-chasing Fulham.

We will have all the build-up, action and reaction throughout the day in our blog below.

Sam Clucas delighted to have leader back in the squad
Sam Clucas hopes Ryan Shawcross returns heralds a new dawn for Stoke City.

Shawcross, captain since 2010 and key man since 2007, leads Stoke to Fulham for their final game of a year everyone will be glad to forget.

How big has Ryan's absence been? Defensive leader, adds defensive stability, played in the Premier League and the Champ, he's Mr Stoke... I can go on. All of those things apply. But it's not just on the pitch, it's off it too. He's so experienced, he's the leader, the main man. It's the same around the training ground. It's hard when you have been injured. I've been there. You're not part of the squad. You're not involved. "

Pulis in the frame for PL job?

Tony Pulis is one of the front-runners to replace Manuel Pellegrini at West Ham United, according to reports.

The Hammers dismissed the Chilean after their 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at the London Stadium.

The Telegraph have reported that Pulis and David Moyes are on the shortlist to replace Pellegrini, with a British manager the priority.

Fulham handed boost
Fulham will be boosted by the return of defender Denis Odoi for Sunday's Sky Bet Championship clash with Stoke City.

Odoi is available for the match at Craven Cottage after completing a three-match suspension.

The 31-year-old has made 14 appearances for Scott Parker's side in the Championship this season.

Report: Ancelotti has already asked about Jean Seri

Everton are being linked with Fulham-owned midfielder Jean Seri.

According to Foot Mercato, new Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is already keen to bring Fulham's Jean Seri to Goodison Park.

It's claimed that Ancelotti has asked to keep tabs on Seri's situation, seemingly eyeing a move to bring him to Merseyside in 2020.

Monaco are thought to be interested too, meaning Galatasaray face competition to sign Seri despite having a permanent option in his loan.

Seri, 28, joined Fulham from Nice in 2018, making a surprise £25million move to Craven Cottage despite being linked with some of Europe's biggest sides (Telegraph).

The Ivorian failed to really live up to his billing as Fulham suffered relegation, and he then headed off to Turkey for a year on loan at Galatasaray.

Interest from Everton may seem surprising, but this isn't the first time Ancelotti has been keen on signing the former Nice star.

Seri's agent Franklin Mala told CalcioNapoli24 in 2018 that Seri's priority was a move to Napoli, where Ancelotti was managing, and the same outlet claimed last summer that Ancelotti again wanted Seri.

Ancelotti may hope it's third time lucky with a move for Seri, but with Galatasaray having a permanent option in their loan move, a deal – which would likely come at the end of the season – seems a little trickier than hoped.
