In fact whole defence looked more solid. Although sterner tests than Hull will come - home side were very poor today

Good to hear. They had been regarded as one coming up on the rails...seems we derailed them.... 049:gif

Our defenders made them look poor. Scott got the starting defenders right today. Same team that put 3 goals on us.

Just shows how unpredictable our league is, we lose at home 3 nil while Hull were struggling and then beat them away when they have been in good form, next test Boro and on form, I won´t make a prediction!!

Hull are a good workmen like Championship side who have upset plenty of sides. In this league you need luck, some class and consistency. We haven't consistency and frankly neither side looked that great. But in the end it came down to a classy goal, a good save and a better defensive display. Plus many of the teams around and above us didn't get three points today.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Good to see Hector do well but would have been nicer to win 4-3 or 3-2 just to give Parker an excuse to rotate Mawson back in for Ream, and possibly Bryan, when they're fully fit. Keeping a clean sheet today means he'll probably persist with that back 4, which IMO will cost us 3 pts in another match in the near future.

You think Mawson is one of our best players?

Leaving Hector aside given he's only played one league game, who is our best defender (ie best at defending) in your opinion?

The thing I like about Hector is his height.  Won some good balls out of the air which is something we have been lacking in the back.
Anyone can blend into the crowd.  How will you standout when it counts?

Hector is better than Mawson and Odoi is better than Bryan. As defenders.

What makes you think our defense will be worse with them starting?

Christie and Ream

Ream is more versatile than Mawson...and the two best defending fullbacks on the squad started today.

Not Mawson - Alfie has not done anything to warrant being rotated back into the starting eleven. Were in the realms of 'giving someone else a chance' territory

Versatility isn't really something I attach much value to, personally. I'd rather have players who are good in the primary position than players who can be crap in several positions.

Not sure will have another look but was it Mawson blocking a goal bound shot in the dying minutes

Play ream and hector together for the next few games and see how they go. They were ok today.

I can understand why Parker persists with Ream and it's not for his defending. He just happens to suit the managers possession based style playing out from the back. In the long run I hope Mawson and Hector form the partnership we've been after because Ream isn't the answer.

The same applies with Denis Odoi. We need an upgrade but for now I agree he's a better defensive left back than Bryan.

Whitesideup

Some of our number don't rate Ream but rate Mawson higher. Ream is a better defender than they give him credit for ( yes, an opinion - I don't have to be shot down in flames) and Mawson has not performed to the level some of us would have hoped.  Now there is real competition - he will have to get back to his best form to command a starting place. To me it was no surprise that Ream started today, and consequently it was no surprise that our defence did very well against a team that are very good on the break. I prefer to think of it us us who negated the threat rather than Hull being poor. I also agree with those who say that Odoi is a good and capable defender, and without seeing the game, I am confident he helped our cause today. Around me in the Hammy end, we are all big fans of Denis.

It may also suggest that Parker set the team up correctly. If so, we should give him credit for that. I'm not saying that makes him the Messiah, but maybe a little credit where it is due.

Great result today. Let's enjoy it just for a moment.

Hector played well and won a lot of arial battles against some tall opponents.
