We have all been calling out for defenders, and for good reason. No idea why it's not working up front with the players we have.

Most of the time the defenders get the ball, they cannot find a midfielder to pass to so pass it to another defender, because the defender has found space and the midfielder hasn't. Once midfield get the ball they seem to predictably pass it to one of the wingers that either charge into the box or cross it.

We have three players in central midfield doing what two central midfielders would do in a 442, with Mitrovoic doing almost what two strikers would do in a 442.

Agree we have needed the right kind of defenders and our goals against in recent games has shown what can happen with the right defenders, although we are not the finished article. Midfield is about balance, with players who can win the ball cleanly in the air and on the deck, and can pass the ball accurately and can score goals, and currently that balance is not always in attendance at the moment.

Pinning verything on a seventeen year old with no experience would not only be stupid but irresponsible. He needs time to develop.
