Loan Round-Up

There was a new loanee added to the list this week as a series of our boys got more minutes under their belt.

Jean-Michaël Seri continued to help Turkish giants Galatasaray pick up points. The midfielder lasted the full 90 minutes in their away victory at Konyaspor. The win still leaves Gala sixth in the Turkish SuperLig.

André-Frank Zambo Anguissa was given a slight rest bite in Villarreal's quest for a European finish as he played 25 minutes in his side's 2-1 win at Alaves. The imposing Cameroonian's side moved within three points of a Europa League spot.

In the lower English leagues, Jerome Opoku continued to impress in a Stanley shirt as he played out Accrington's gritty draw at Burton Albion. The defender was deployed at full back and was booked after 20 minutes.

Jayden Harris played 80 minutes in his debut for Conference side Woking to help them move within striking distance of the play-offs. Their 1-0 win over high-fliers Yeovil capped off an excellent performance from the box-to-box midfielder.

1 winner and 1 loser at Fulham if 27-y/o's departure is sanctioned

In one of the more unexpected transfer links of the window, Fulham defender Cyrus Christie is reportedly of interest to European giants AS Roma this month, with Sky Sports Italy reporter Gianluca Di Marzio stating that the Giallorossi are eyeing a move for the Irishman.

Christie has found himself to be largely out of favour at Craven Cottage this term, with the 27-year-old full back having fallen behind Steven Sessegnon and Denis Odoi in the pecking order under Scott Parker for the right back spot.

With just 801 minutes of football to his name so far, the former Derby County man could well be open to a move to the Serie A Champions League chasers as he seeks to rejuvenate his season.

Scott Parker will no doubt be seeking to trim his squad over the coming months as he looks to offset the costs incurred by Fulham's lavish spending as they ultimately failed to secure their Premier League status.

It would surely be a move that Christie is open to making as he seeks to add to his 24 caps for the Republic of Ireland over the next few months.

Here, we take a look at ONE winner and ONE loser of Fulham sanctioning a departure for Cyrus Christie....

Winner

Steven Sessegnon

As one of Fulham's brightest young prospects in recent years, Sessegnon would surely reap the rewards of seeing his teammate depart this month as he looks to hold down a place in the starting eleven under Parker.

The teenager has only been afforded 644 minutes so far this term and Christie's departure would go along way towards decreasing the amount of competition there is for places in the back four, with Sessegnon currently stuck behind Odoi in that respect.

At the age of 19, the youngster really needs to be playing on a more regular basis and for that matter he will no doubt be keen to put in some impressive showings for the Whites over the course of the second half of the season.

One thing that will stand the defender in good stead is that he provides a far more offensive option than Odoi, which is something that should appeal to a more attack-minded manager like Parker.

Loser

Denis Odoi

The Belgian defender would surely be the loser of this transfer going through as it would mean that the versatile defender would have to maintain his presence at right back.

Odoi is far more comfortable when playing in his preferred position of centre back and for that matter the 31-year-old may be hoping that his teammate remains at Craven Cottage this month.

Despite putting in some assured showings for the Whites at right back, the former Anderlecht man will be keen to attempt to establish himself as Parker's go to guy for the role of centre back alongside Tim Ream.

With Alfie Mawson having put in a series of mixed performances for the Whites, Odoi could well move himself into contention for a starting spot in central defence if Christie stays put.

'A bit of a strange one for me' – European club plot move for Fulham player: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World's 'The Verdict' series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...

Fulham manager Scott Parker could have a battle on his hands if he wants to hold onto defender Cyrus Christie, with Sky Sports Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that AS Roma are interested in signing the Republic of Ireland international this month.

Christie has performed well this season making 18 appearances as the Cottagers push for an immediate return to the Premier League, and it this good form that appears to have attracted the attentions of an unlikely suitor.

So should Fulham look to keep Christie or offload him if the price is right?

We discuss.........

Ned Holmes

"This seems a bit of a strange one for me but you certainly wouldn't blame Fulham for looking to cash in.

"Christie has been the Championship club's first-choice right-back over the past few months, so losing him would be a blow but they do have young Ryan Sessegnon, who looked impressive in that position during the early part of the season.

"It would no doubt be a gamble, particularly with Fulham well set to push for promotion.

"However, if the offer is big enough I think makes sense for the West London club to look to cash in."

Jacob Potter

"I'm not too sure what he's done to justify interest from such a reputable club!

"Christie is an excellent option to have going forward at full-back for Fulham, but I still have my doubts over his ability in defence for Scott Parker's side.

"I'd be tempted to say that they should cash in on Christie this month, as it means it will give the likes of Steven Sessegnon the chance to impress on a regular basis in Fulham's bid for promotion.

"Christie is likely to be on relatively high wages, so I don't think Fulham will be too reluctant in selling him before we reach the conclusion of the January transfer window.

"He's not a key player for the Cottagers in my opinion, and I think he's easily replaceable for Scott Parker. "

Chris Thorpe

"Arguably one of the strangest transfer links of the window – a move away from Craven Cottage for Christie seems like a matter of when not if, with the 27-year-old having fallen down the pecking order behind Messrs Denis Odoi and Steven Sessegnon.

"A move to a club of Roma's size and stature would be far too hard to turn down for a player who is well into his prime years, with the potential transfer offering one last paycheck before he hangs up his boots in a few years.

"With his opportunities likely to be limited under Scott Parker in west London, a move away seems like the best option for a player that still has a lot to offer any potential suitors.

"A move to the Stadio Olimpico could well go along way towards rejuvenating the former Coventry City man, particularly as he seeks to maintain his international place within the Republic of Ireland squad."

U23s Match Against Fulham Moved To The Riverside

Boro's Under-23s will play at the Riverside Stadium this Sunday, against Fulham in the PL2 (kick-off 1pm).

The match had previously been due to take place at Bishop Auckland's Heritage Park, the regular home of our U23 team.

Fulham: Fans angered by Scott Parker's comments

Fulham boss Scott Parker told the club's website his team showed "unbelievable personality and bravery" versus Manchester City. The Cottagers suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the Premier League champions and were eliminated from this season's FA Cup.

What was already a difficult task became a near-impossible one after the Londoners were reduced to ten men following Tim Ream's early red card.

Whilst Parker was full of praise for his group and the spirit they showed, the fans don't see eye to eye with their former midfielder.

What do we think?

To be able to find any positive in such a heavy defeat is a skill in itself. You can understand why the manager's comments took the supporters by surprise; they will have no doubt been disappointed by what they saw – particularly those who made the long trip up to Manchester.

However, it's not all doom and gloom for Fulham as they are still in with a real shout of securing an automatic promotion spot. The club currently occupy second place in the Championship and the recent form of both West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United will have no doubt given the Cottagers encouragement as they look to find a way back into the Premier League.

Former PL man sends message to Rangers ace linked with Fulham

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa man Alan Hutton has urged Rangers' Connor Goldson to remain at Ibrox, amid reports linking him with a move to Fulham.

Goldson, 27, is in his second season at Rangers. He joined from Brighton & Hove Albion where he'd made only eight Premier League appearances in his last two seasons, but has since revitalised his career in Scotland.

He's one of Steven Gerrard's key men and one who'll be crucial to their enthralling title race with Celtic in the SPL.

Today, Hutton, who's over 100 Rangers appearances to his name, over 250 in the Premier League and 50 caps for Scotland, has reminded Goldson that he's 'unfinished business' at Rangers.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said:

"Money talks. I understand the draw of down south is a big opportunity for him but let us not kid ourselves.

"That is the Championship. Rangers are still in Europe, going for the league so there are still trophies to be had and won at Rangers. He has been a key member of the team and played a lot of games.

"I would not like to see him leave. It is neck and neck in the league and you do not want to see the best players leave.

"Gerrard is building something special and I do hope that he does stay because he is an integral part of the team. There is unfinished business and I would like to see him concentrate on Rangers for now."

Goldson was linked with Fulham earlier in the transfer window, but Scott Parker's side never made an official approach for the defender.

He's also attracted the likes of West Ham United, Leeds United and West Brom – including Fulham, that's all three of the Championship's current top-three.

He's a man in-demand but Gerrard will be looking to the end of the transfer window at 11pm this Friday, and he'll be praying that Goldson remains a Rangers man.

The verdict

There's no doubting that Goldson would be a fine addition to most clubs in the Championship. The fact that all of the current top-three have shown an interest shows just how highly-rated he is.

But Fulham have since signed Terrence Kongolo, so Parker may not be in the market for another centre-back. He's also got Michael Hector who, since finalising his move from Chelsea on the opening day of the window, has been the answer to all their defensive prayers.

Free speech wins as California DMV says Fulham soccer fan's 'Come on You Whites' vanity plate is OK

https://www.foxnews.com/us/free-speech-california-dmv-fulham-soccer-fan-vanity-plate

A soccer fan%u2019s request for a personalized license plate celebrating his favorite team was granted Tuesday after scoring a free speech victory against the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), which initially determined the slogan might be deemed offensive.

Jon Kotler, a lawyer and constitutional scholar at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, has been a devoted fan of the London-based soccer team Fulham Football Club. He wanted to show his support with a vanity plate of the team's slogan: %u201CCome on You Whites.%u201D

FULHAM SOCCER FAN SUES CALIFORNIA DMV OVER 'COME ON YOU WHITES' VANITY PLATE

But he ran into a roadblock when the DMV rejected his request for the vanity plate using an acronym for the team%u2019s slogan, %u201CCOYW,%u201D claiming it could carry %u201Cracial overtones" and %u201Cconnotations offensive to good taste and decency.%u201D

When the DMV refused to change its position -- even after Kotler provided news clippings and other evidence to show that the slogan was not racially charged -- the 78-year-old filed a First Amendment lawsuit, according to his lawyers at the libertarian-leaning nonprofit Pacific Legal Foundation.

The DMV has settled the lawsuit and will issue Kotler his vanity plate in an expedited manner, the firm said.

%u201CThe DMV%u2019s misguided denial of the %u2018COYW%u2019 plate shows that laws giving government officials unbridled discretion to ban speech they find offensive will inevitably lead to arbitrary results,%u201D said Wen Fa, Kotler%u2019s attorney.

The DMV also agreed to acknowledge that the slogan %u201CCOYW%u201D does not carry racial connotations and that the rejection was not meant to imply that Kotler was a racist, the firm said.
