Squad Management

Squad management is going to be very important if we are to make the playoffS with the extra games they entail. I'm assuming we don't get automatic promotion (although that's still possible) and that our long term injury players can't return. We know that some of our current squad are having to cope with problems (e.g. Johansen which is why he can't play every game), and there are limited others who can come in (probably limited to De La Torre, O'Reilly, Stansfield). Some may be suited to sub. cameo appearances (Kamara, Kebanu) to change tempo if needed and to minimise injury. Red cards to be avoided (memo to Arter!
Just saying as some of the criticism of Parker's team selections doesn't take into account that we've got a run of difficult games with a relatively small fit squad...and part of the strategy must be to reach the play offs with availability of our best squad possible.
But of course we may get automatic promotion.

We had almost two players for every position which seemed like good cover but we have been hard hit by injuries. At the moment we have three centre backs injured, Mawson, Kangola and Le Marchand , lightening has struck in the same place three times. That is bad luck.

If such a thing as medium to long term planning goes on then I doubt anybody thought Harrison Reed and Mawson would be missing for so long or that reinforcements would be non starters and have to go back. I think all would have been starters and along with Hector the second half of the season might have been different. The subs bench would have been interesting if all the absentees were available. As you suggest anything is still possible but I feel just a couple more injuries in key areas will leave us too thin.
Saturday will be interesting. If Parker does not start Stefjo ahead of Arter something's up.

Perhaps that's why we've started seeing more of Arter in the team recently, so when these games come he and Mcdonald can interchange more seemlessly

Same starting IX as Wednesday for me.  No need to change.  Keep the continuity and build on the momentum.

Parker recently has been fiddling with the line up and I feel this contributed to our dropping further behind Leeds.  Once automatics are realistically beyond us, then start 'resting' players but for now play our best team.

mawson has played way more games than I ever imagined this season and was good for a very short while but then he seemed to be much more nervous on the pitch and now we can he is just not fit and not to be relied on. so that was totally forseeable.

The Rational Fan

To make the playoffs we need to keep Bristol, Preston and Brentford fighting for 5th and 6th place, by winning those games, then we need to take on Leeds to gets automatic promotion, after Leeds we need to determine if squad management is aimed at automatic promotion or playoffs.

From a pre and early season planning perspective, the long and medium term, how was his long term absence foreseeable? His form was always a bit up and down and I suspect his injury history might have been a consideration when looking to bolster the squad but I doubt anybody thought his season would be over as early as it is.

St Eve

Even more reason to use the squad. Start with Kebano and AK and rest Cav and Knocks. Give De La Torre, O'Reilly and Stanfield a 30 minute run. Give Sess a game. Mix it up a little. Let's be honest had Mitro not scored in the last few seconds it would have been a disaster. Parker out brigade would be vocal and half the team would have been criticized. So maybe we should tweak the team for the Preston game

I think Parker picked his starting eleven for wednesday s game in the belief that it is his best team. If we go unchanged today then for me that confirms it. Kamara and kebano forme are better as impact players and Stef J has a knee problem which has been ongoning for most of the season.

Whitestone

With eleven games to go I think continuity in team selection is vital. I'm hoping that the manager knows his best eleven and sticks with them. Now is not the time to chop and change or experiment. This time two years ago Slav rarely changed the team and we went on a fantastic run. Hopefully the win against Swansea will give the players the confidence to push on.

Sting of the North

The StefJo alleged knee problem, or at least that it is said problem keeping him on the bench, keeps being repeated as some kind of truth, even though it is just guess work based on almost nothing. When we needed him because of injuries he started several games in a short span. The much more likely explanation is that Parker just don't fancy him much at all.

Live in Sweden and saw the Norwegian manager on Swedish tv talking about his knee problem ,which is chronic and has to be carefully handled .
Tendon problem.

Sting of the North

I don't doubt that he has a knee problem. I doubt however that the knee problem is what's keeping him on the bench. Has there been any indication this season that this is the case? Would he have been used for our FA cup games then?
