New project for me.  I ran a cat5 cable a few years ago to our basement TV for my son.  His PlayStation was lagging, and he was complaining about the internet speed.  So, I ran the cat5 cable which allowed him to get the fastest speed we had at the time directly into his gaming system.

Now with everyone home, and everyone using the internet for video calling, gaming and movie streaming, I find that even though I am paying for a 100 + mb connection that there is some lagging on everyone's devices.  I am also assuming that some of this has to do with everyone around us also being home and trying to work and home school their kids via the internet.

So, I have started running cat5 cable to almost every room in the house.  I am setting up a "budget" home network in hopes that everyone will get the fastest speed possible.  Hopefully it will work.
Anyone can blend into the crowd.  How will you standout when it counts?

Don, You could invest in the Powerline Adaptor (https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/powerline/tl-pa9020p-kit/), I use them for working from home, had them 3 years with no problems at all. And/or if you add in an ethernet hub (https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/switches/soho-ethernet-switches/default.aspx) where you need more than one cable in a room, then you're good to go.

Not at all!!!! Even though I am retired (69) but still doing some clients´ accounts, I am now doing nothing (work wise) as they have all stopped working and my income from self employment has now ceased for the foreseeable future. I wasn´t expecting any financial support package today so I wasn´t disappointed when I learned their wasn´t any for people like me receiving a pension and my main ¨earnings¨ were not from self employment. A lot of people are far worse off than me, just don´t know any personally (only joking)!

Cooking

It's a bit like "Ready  Steady Cook ' depending on what I can pick up at the supermarket / farm shop

People seem to avoid duck and any form of game (plenty available - as opposed to chicken )  So eating plenty of that . Tonight we had gnocchi with chicken livers - last night was partridge with cabbage and pancetta - tomorrow sardine pasta
Chocolate cake, crumbles and homemade rice pudding also being made and consumed in vast amounts. Drinking also increasing exponentially - wine in copious amounts and brandy fourfold !!

Thanks.

Under pressure from my wife (who told me bluntly she couldn't reference it to her friends in its initial form) I've spent today going through it and removing some of the sexual content. Now as high as 32 in one of the categories - that for stories pertaining to the SAS, - though I am sure it bears even less resemblance to reality there than "Ultimate Force" (whose character Becca Gallagher I've slightly drawn on in "Jenny".)

No mention whatever of football or of Fulham. Shakespeare, poetry, cross country running, swimming (and, in the sequel, tennis) but not football.

I'm impressed with you lot doing so many productive things. Other than producing a large callus on my backside, I haven't done much. The garden beds are ready but nothing planted except the shallots. We've had a lasting winter. Even had snow flurries two days ago. (Yes, I'm in SoCal, abet a little farther above sea level than most.) I got the weed abatement done on my cleared area. The throttle broke on my rototiller so I had to tie a piece of fishing line on it and wrap it around my fingers so I could keep the RPMs up.
I must be bored to write this non sense. Be well mates!
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.

Me and Mrs W just worked our way through 20 plus litres of Cuprinol fence paint.  Only half way there so thank god for Screwfix click & collect.

(I could have phrased that better - sounds like we drank it!).  Talking of a drink .... the one I have in hand well earned!

At some point I'm going to start learning a new skill...and it's not going to be cooking.

My son and I just downloaded an old Atari game pack.  We have been playing asteroids, breakout and other old games.  Pretty fun actually.

Thought I would try the garden .. too much, too soon...and the old back gave out. Think I will be better off following Milo's wine recommendations....

All the decorating jobs I have successfully ignored have been very handy now I cant play golf. Been upgrading wiring, installing new lights then decorating. Might get round to the garden but garden centres are closed so cant do the baskets.

We had our oldest granddaughter to stay last week, and she got me into playing MineCraft (I had to buy the game first for the old PS3). Bit of a difficult game to learn for my old head, the gameplay is easy on the face of it, but strategy not as intuitive as one might think.
Wife and I still play BomberMan daily though after work, just to end thr working day before dinner.

I use them but find they do slow the internet. We have a fibre cable direct to the house. It ends at a box in the cupboard under the stairs and I could attach my router to that, but the pcs are old and need an ethernet cable and some of our equipment won't run on wifi or bluetooth so connecting to the router attached directly to the box isn't practical (it needs to be nearer to our desks), so we use Powerline. I ran a speed test with the pcs connected to the box and also connected to Powerline and found a 50% reduction when connected to the Powerline adaptors.

Whilst I am working from home we re critical suppliers into the medical market, especially the ventilator and respiratory market.  We are making springs like they are going out of fashion.  Tough times trying to keep manufacturing going whilst thinking of the staff!

Eh, I stay busy because I like earning a wage! Plus, I've been working from home for years now, so I'm used to it. I mean, I can perfectly write a market analysis around these flats for sale in Cannes  while chatting with my wife and with the cat walking on the table, so it's not like I can't handle it!

Before the outbreak we had contracted with a specialist company to rip out and replace our entire garden to a design from our son in law (who is a landscape architect).  They did a fantastic job and just finished their work before the corona restrictions came into force.  But a completely new garden is a seriously expensive project so we had already decided to save some cash by planting out ourselves and then applying all the mulch too.

This has kept us very busy! We planted nearly 700 plants and so far have shifted 2.5 tons of pine bark mulch (another ton to go).  We are knackered but it has been so rewarding and there are plenty of other jobs to do before we finish.  So this should keep us busy in the weeks to come.
