I know, I know ,I'm 24 hours early but John Mayal passed away this week and I saw him a couple of time in my youth . So this fits albeit a day early :-

After working hard and battling in the endlessly competitive Japanese music industry for a few years. Band Maid were on the verge of being dropped by their management. Until they released a music video that was picked up by a YouTube radio channel who played it to a wider audience. This video saved the band.

From nine years ago - Thrill from Band Maid.  Now quite a few people have watched it since.  Side note - Miku (red rose) who started the band and is now a good rhythm guitarist had never learned to play the guitar when this was released.

loved the moontan album, just had to play candys going bad after listening to your radar love. but my fave off that album was vanilla queen.  seemed so ahead of its time with the sampling etc. love the way it keeps changing and the introduction of brass at the end.  it was like a drug trip without taking any drugs.

Watching the great US drama series, Dopesick, on BBC iPlayer, about highly addictive opioid painkillers that many people became unwittingly addicted to, I was thinking of about songs about withdrawal from drugs/drinks- but great songs/ performances , anyway.

Mark Hollis is normally reluctant to discuss his opaque lyrics, but the Dutch magazine Oor managed to get him to open up about "I Believe In You."

"I've seen the misery that heroin can cause," he said. "I've known so many people who thought the stuff would never get hold of them and end up with a totally ruined life."

his older brother died through heroin. this is the saddest talk talk song  seldom heard but beautiful. imho.

The song's music video was shot at Bell Studios in London and features Hollis sitting with his guitar and singing the lyrics. Hollis soon expressed his regret over the video after it was shot. He told Q, "I really feel that was a massive mistake. I thought just by sitting there and listening and really thinking about what [the song] was about, I could get that in my eyes. But you cannot do it. It just feels stupid. It was depressing and I wish I'd never done it. He added to International Musician and Recording World, "That song means so much to me that to sit there and mime to it just feels totally stupid. It just felt like I was being prostituted. Tim felt exactly the same, 'cos he cares about that sort of thing

Shakespeare's sonnet 29 is about self doubt. The way we change ourselves to accommodate whatever and whoever it is we are talking to. We forget who we are.

Dice by Band Maid is about being locked into a state of fear of the outside. In Japan there are individuals who literally lock themselves in and surround themselves with things they love. Anime, dolls, posters and try not to venture out into the World for fear of ridicule and not being able to be themselves.
