Championship: Football Manager to simulate Final Day live!
Follow Sky Sports' dedicated live blog from midday on Saturday as Football Manager simulate the conclusion of the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season

The Sky Bet Championship 2019/20 season was supposed to come to a conclusion on Saturday, but who would have been promoted, relegated or reached the play-offs?

If the campaign had continued as normal than the final round of second games would have taken place on Saturday, May 2 and we have turned to Football Manager 2020 to find out what may have happened throughout the rest of the campaign.

So who would have reached the Premier League? Who would have been relegated to League One, and who would have been set for the lottery of the play-offs?

Football Manager have used their unique software to simulate the rest of the season, and to see how the table would have shaped up going into the final day of the campaign.

What happened during the rest of the season?

The team catching everybody's eye is Nottingham Forest, who storm their way into title contention after a sensational run of seven wins and a draw from their final eight outings, moving Sabri Lamouchi's side level on points with second-placed West Brom and just two behind leaders Leeds.

Cardiff picked up just six points to fall away from the play-off picture into mid-table and at the other end of the standings, and despite rallying over the last few months, fellow Welsh side Swansea are forced to settle for another season in the second tier.

Stoke and Huddersfield rally to lift themselves clear of danger, along with Grant McCann's Hull, who narrowly miss out on relegation despite being in free fall prior to the coronavirus outbreak. Meanwhile, while Charlton occupy the final relegation spot, they sit second in the form table over the past eight fixtures, with Lee Bowyer bringing some much-needed hope to south east London.

Final day fixtures

Final day permutations

Aside from the aforementioned title race, with five teams having guaranteed a play-off spot at least, Bristol City, Preston, Blackburn and Millwall - separated by just two points - go head to head for the final berth.

Luton, unfortunately, are already down, and Barnsley are on the verge of joining them. The Tykes face a tough trip to Brentford in need of a win, a big goal swing and other results to go their way.

Charlton, meanwhile, are two points adrift of Wigan and Middlesbrough. The Addicks, however, face a daunting trip to Leeds.

Donate A Box

SW Fruit and Veg was founded by brothers Mike and Pete Small with the simple purpose of delivering fresh produce to their families and closest friends while they stayed safe at home.

Delivery companies could not keep up with the increased demand resulting from the Covid-19 crisis, but more crucially neither could local charities and foodbanks.

The team at SW Fruit and Veg quickly grew as furloughed or newly out of work friends joined the ranks. As they grew in number their aspirations grew in scope: no community or charity in South West London would be without fresh produce, and nobody would need to take the risk of the supermarkets.

They have designed their initiative to benefit local suppliers, isolating individuals, and wider communities. The 'donate a box' facility on their website allows South West Londoners to take direct action to support the most vulnerable in the area, and community shops are being set-up in liaison with local leaders in South West London.

Over 300 boxes of fresh produce have been supplied to local charities already. The team are setting a goal of 1,000 boxes as well as many more community shops.

The team at SW Fruit and Veg are calling on South West Londoners to help them reach their target with the promise that every donation goes directly to those who need it the most.

For more information, head to their website.

Leeds and West Brom 'will BOTH be promoted to the Premier League if the Championship season is cancelled'... but all four teams in the play-off spots would still have to battle for the final place in the top flight

The EFL have a contingency plan for if the Championship season is cancelled
Leeds and West Brom, who are first and second in the table, will be promoted
They want the play-offs to go ahead even if the rest of the campaign is called off
Fulham, Preston, Brentford and Nottingham Forest would all be involved
Meanwhile, EFL chairman Rick Parry is determined to complete the season

Leeds and West Brom will be promoted to the Premier League if the Championship season is cancelled, with the play-offs going ahead as normal, according to The Guardian.

The EFL are locked in talks about how to resume the campaign behind closed doors amid the coronavirus crisis, with League One and League Two increasingly unsure about playing to a conclusion.

Championship officials are more confident about restarting, but there is said to be a preferred contingency plan in place should that not be possible.

The top half of the Championship table, with Leeds and West Brom ahead of the rest

The Guardian claim that table-toppers Leeds and second-placed West Brom would be awarded automatic promotion to the Premier League, with the four teams currently occupying the play-off positions facing each other.

That would mean Fulham take on Preston and Brentford face Nottingham Forest, with the winners of each tie battling for the final spot in the top flight.

The semi-finals reportedly could be played as one-off ties at a neutral venue rather than over two legs. All games would be behind closed doors with no fans.

A number of clubs, including Bristol City, Millwall, Cardiff, Blackburn and Swansea, will be in the running for a play-off spot if the season resumes as planned.

Brentford and Mathias Jensen (left) would face Forest and Yuri Ribeiro (right) in the semi-finals

Leeds are one point above West Brom at the top, but there is a gap of six points from the Baggies to third-placed Fulham.

Because they are clear in the two automatic promotion spots with nine games remaining, EFL officials believe it is fair that both clubs go up if the season is brought to a premature end because of the pandemic.

That decision would finally bring Leeds' long wait for a return to the Premier League to an end, with the club having spent the last 16 seasons in the second and third tiers.

Meanwhile, chairman Rick Parry has insisted that the EFL remain determined to finish the season.

Chairman Rick Parry has insisted that the EFL remain determined to finish the 2019-20 season

In a letter to the Football League's Championship, Leagues One and League Two clubs, Parry confirmed the EFL ARE in talks with the government about a return date.

He said: 'Whilst there is still no further clarity on a return of EFL matches, the objective remains to play the remaining fixtures for the 2019-20 campaign at the current 71 EFL grounds. It is important that any clubs notify the EFL of any issues that may prevent this as soon as possible.

'Some progress has been made in respect of planning how matches may take place, with draft operational plans put before the board at this week's meeting and incorporating many areas such as: stadium preparation, medical provisions, staffing, media access and, of course, measures needed to ensure the safety of all participants including first-team players and staff, match officials, and everyone else associated with the matchday environment.'

Anthony Knockaert name-drops former Brighton and Hove Albion man when quizzed on one question

Fulham remain in contention to win promotion into the Premier League this season under the guidance of Scott Parker.

The Cottagers are currently sat third in the second tier standings, and will be hoping they can build on some impressive showings so far this season.

One player that has played a key role in their bid for promotion this term is Anthony Knockaert, who signed on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2019.

The winger has since made 34 appearances for Fulham, and has chipped in with four goals and five assists so far in all competitions.

It remains to be seen as to whether Knockaert has a future with the Seagulls, although that could be dependant on whether Fulham win promotion into the Premier League this season or not.

Speaking in a Q&A session on his official Instagram page, Knockaert revealed that the best player he has ever played alongside was former Brighton and Hove Albion defender Bruno Saltor, which is certain to go down well with the club's supporters.

Bruno announced his retirement from his playing career at the end of the 2018/19 season, with his final match being against Manchester City back in May 2019.

The Verdict:

Bruno was a fantastic servant to Brighton and Hove Albion.

He might not have technically been the most eye-catching of players, but he certainly did a fine job for the Seagulls in some impressive seasons for the club.

It'll be interesting to see whether Knockaert has much of a future with Brighton, especially given the strong performances he has been putting in for promotion-chasing Fulham this season.

You would imagine that Scott Parker will be keen to make his loan move a permanent one in the summer if the Cottagers are to win promotion back into the Premier League.

Premier League statement on 2019/20 Academy Games Programme

The Premier league has issued the following statement...

Premier League Shareholders today unanimously agreed to curtail the 2019/20 Academy Games Programme.

This decision, which is independent of any discussions regarding the resumption of the 2019/20 campaign for first-team football, has been taken to give Academy staff and their players clarity at this challenging time.

The curtailment will include all Under-9 to Under-16 games as well as the Under-18 and Under-23 competitions.

The methodology for determining the final league standings and outcomes for the season will be decided at a future date.

Additionally, it is intended that any fixtures for the 2020/21 Academy season will not commence any earlier than would usually be expected.

The decision has been made with the support of the EFL, which oversees the programme for Category Three and Category Four Clubs (Under-9 to Under-18).

With our U18s leading their division at the time of the curtailment, we await a decision from the Premier League regarding league standings.

Good to see that the EFL are still trying to think of a way of completing league programmes.
