West Bromwich Albion and Fulham rival Southampton for midfielder linked with Bristol City in January

There is also interest from Germany

West Bromwich Albion and Fulham are both interested in a player that was linked to Bristol City in January.

The Robins left their business in January fairly late, bringing in Nahki Wells, Markus Henriksen and Filip Benkvoic in the final days of the transfer window.

Yet go back to the start of the window and, along with Eddie Nketiah, City fans were all talking about one man; FC Lorient's Yoane Wissa.

It was never entirely clear how interested City were in Wissa, with most of the buzz coming from social media, and, as always in the transfer window, eventually talk moved swiftly on to other targets.

Wissa could now well be on his way to the Championship, however.

Telefoot report that both West Brom and Fulham are keen on the midfielder, who has netted an impressive 16 goals in 30 appearances this season.

Wissa can play on the wing, and his return has also stirred some interest from Premier League clubs, with Watford and Southampton both said to be keeping tabs on his progress.

The 23-year-old is a pacey player, who is comfortable at cutting inside and finding the back of the net, and he has also attracted interest from Germany.

With City fans all monitoring Wissa in January, they may well opt to keep a keen eye on how he does should he complete a transfer move to England.

Whatever happened to... former Fulham midfielder Bryan Ruiz

Costa rica international bryan ruiz spent four years on the books at Fulham from 2010 to 2014.

The Cottagers saw off plenty of competition to land the in-demand midfielder at the time from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente.

Ruiz, who has made 125 caps for his country, went onto play 108 games for Fulham and scored 12 goals.

Prior to his move to Craven Cottage, he had started his career in Costa Rica with Liga Deportivo Alajuelense before getting a move to Europe with Genk in the summer of 2006.

Ruiz impressed immediately in Belgium and scored 31 goals in 96 games before his €5 million move to FC Twente. He helped them win the Eredivisie title under Steve McClaren in his first season, bagging an impressive 24 league goals.

Fast forward a year-and-a-half and he was on his way to the Premier League with Fulham. He struggled to make a real impact in England and was loaned out to PSV as the London side were relegated in 2014.

Ruiz stayed for a season in the Championship before departing the club after four years.

Where is he now?

He linked up with Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon after leaving Fulham and spent three seasons with the Primeira Liga outfit. He played 108 times and chipped in with 18 goals.

Ruiz departed Lisbon when his contract expired there two years and moved to Brazil to join Santos on a free transfer and remains there today.

Now 34 years old, may have a couple more years left in him but finds himself back in familiar surroundings in South America.

Recently promoted club targeting Fulham defender – Seen as 'good solution' to strengthen squad

Arriving at the same time as Jean-Michaël Seri, Maxime Le Marchand's time at Fulham has gone a bit better than his teammate, but not by much.

Unlike the Ivorian, the centre-back stayed at the club for their campaign in the Championship, but a back injury has kept him out for most of it, limiting him to just eight league appearances so far this season.

With football currently on hold, the player can recuperate without fear of missing games, but there's also his future to think about, and he might get an opportunity to leave London if all goes well.

According to La Voix du Nord, Lens, who were recently promoted to Ligue 1, are interested in the Fulham player to bolster their defence ahead of the new season.

It's stated the 30-year-old, who they describe as 'coming out of a difficult season', would be seen as a 'good solution for the left hand side' of the two central defenders.

That's all there is to it for now, but considering the centre-back wasn't exactly a regular starter under Scott Parker this season, perhaps Fulham won't stand in his way if a decent bid turns up on their desk.

Opinion: Whether Ryan Sessegnon deserves a second chance at Spurs or not

Ryan Sessegnon's career at Tottenham Hotspur has failed to get started in his first full season since transferring from Fulham last summer.

However, due to COVID-19 and the economical state of football, Sessegnon could have an important second chance to show Jose Mourinho how valuable he can be to the team.

The youngster's time in North London has been nothing short of a struggle. Before he completed his move across London, Sessegnon suffered a hamstring injury for England's U21 side.

129 days later, Mauricio Pochettino handed a debut to the Englishmen in the 1-1 draw against Everton back in November.

Despite the change of management at Spurs, Sessegnon still failed to cement a consistent spot in the matchday squad, featuring only 12 times. However, he did record his first-ever goal for the club against Bayern Munich in the Champions League. (Transfermarkt)

Jose Mourinho is hoping to rebuild a squad in the mould of his own ethics and philosophy. So, will Ryan Sessegnon still have a future at Spurs by the 2020/21 season?

Sessegnon Potential Position and Leaky Defence
In his first eight months at the club, Sessegnon has been used in a range of different positions. Featuring at left-back, left-wing, and left-wing-back, he failed to command a regular starting spot in any.

Sessegnon set the championship alight in the 17/18 season, scoring 16 goals and helping Fulham in their quest to return to the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

However, his first full season in the top division was one to forget, only scoring twice in 40 appearances. Having said this, people could argue that Fulham, in general, were poor and Sessegnon was not able to show his full potential.

Fast forward to April, and we still don't know the preferred position of Sessegnon in a Spurs shirt. He has shown the ability to score at left-wing, but his chances are going to be slim due to Heung-Min Son, Lucas Moura, and Steven Bergwijn being above him in the pecking order.

His opportunity could have come in recent weeks due to the injuries to Son and Bergwijn, but the COVID-19 virus put a stop to that.

Another position we could see Sessegnon cementing is at left-back. Jose Mourinho has fielded him in defensive roles for his last four appearances. In his 14 appearances this season, Sessegnon only achieved 0.8 tackles per game, 0.5 interceptions per game and 0.1 blocks per game, as a defensive left-sided player, these stats are worrying (Whoscored).

He has failed to show strength and confidence out on the left and nearly cost Tottenham three valuable points against Norwich City. When Max Aarons got on the inside of Sessegnon, he made a lunging tackle to take down the right-back and award Norwich a penalty to bring the game level.

Some Spurs fans may quickly point out that Sessegnon is not the only one across the backline to have conceded errors with Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, and Jan Vertonghen all guilty of making mistakes in Jose Mourinho's tenure.

Sessegnon's confidence levels are low, so he needs a leader to pick him up and push him in the right direction, something Spurs do not have at the moment. Many thought that Mourinho could be the man to sew up the defence but there has been no evidence of that changing anytime soon.

From Mourinho's first game in charge against West Ham United, Tottenham have gone on to concede 37 goals in 26 games (1.4 per game), keeping only three clean sheets.

So, would it be fair to judge Sessegnon on his performances at left-back with no other players taking responsibility right now?

Earlier in his career, we saw him take the Championship by storm at the age of 17 before becoming one of Fulham's key leaders in the Premier League.

His time at Tottenham hasn't gone exactly to plan with injuries, a change of manager, and a generally poor atmosphere. However, Gareth Bale was nearly thrown out of the door before he even got settled and you know how that story ended.

Sessegnon's best position is left-wing and I believe he would be most useful to Jose Mourinho in an attacking role. However, let's give him time to settle and develop into the player we have seen before.

West Ham: Scott Parker's name on many fans lips as they discuss best ever tackler

A post by a fan page on Twitter has got West Ham fans debating over who the best tackler they have seen at the club is, and a lot are suggesting it is Scott Parker.

The central defensive midfielder made 129 appearances for the East London side, managing to pick up 12 goals and 11 assists along the way, per Transfermarkt, from 2007 to 2011.

However it might be quite surprising that the player still receives such appreciation from West Ham supporters, considering he left the club for bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur in August 2011 for £5.18 million.

Looking at his last two campaigns at the East London club, which are available on WhoScored, you can see why fans believe he is one of the best if not the best tackler to have played at the club as he averaged 3.3 tackles a game in the 2009/10 campaign and then bettered that the season after by averaging 3.8 tackles per match.

It was a big part of his game, and his tenaciousness did not go unnoticed as the former Premier League winner, via Transfermarkt, made 18 appearances for the Three Lions in his career.

Amusing to read that Spurs are searching for the best position to play Sess. Surely his time at the Cottage showed that he was only going to be an average player at left back as from time to time there were question raised about his defensive reliability.

His strengths were clearly as a goal poacher and right now he could be doing himself and us a lot of good playing regularly in this role, we have not found a replacement.
