The Rest Of The Season

Great news that the restart of the season is due to start in two weeks from today although all matches are to be behind closed doors. Even more exciting when it seems that we may have access to all of our games on FFCtv, hope I have got that right.

However the fact that already we have reports that  three Fulham players have tested positive with Coronavirus makes us question whether it is going to be possible to complete the nine match programme. Surely the contacts of the three players will now be subject to isolation and as each match takes place with more and more contact there will be further positive tests. In the next two/three months it seems likely that a few clubs will be unable to field a team because of sick players or players in isolation.

Should it not now be agreed that if a further stop has to be applied to the Championship programme then three clubs will be promoted based on points per game.

Wow.
What a really thoughtful point Filham.
I wonder if such a instance has been planned for.

There have been more than 4,000 tests in the Championship with 24 people testing positive and more than 6,000 tests in the Premier League with 13 testing positive. So far, there is nothing to suggest that the number of positive cases will escalate over time. The latest round of tests in the Premier League, which were carried out after clubs had started contact training, have all been negative. Although it is still early days, the signs are that regular testing and stringent medical protocols are helping to prevent mass outbreaks within squads.

Sounds hopeful but I thought that with Test Track & Trace up and running if one person tests positive then all contacts would in isolation for two weeks. This must mean that if we have one more player test positive then our whole team along with recent opponents are in isolation for two weeks, that could mean 5 of our matches would be postponed as well as five of our recent opponents.
If I have got this right then not many positive tests will be needed to put the restarted season into chaos.

It seems as if the twice-weekly testing allows football clubs to adopt a different approach to cases of COVID-19.

From the EFL website:
'Following the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the EFL can confirm that 1094 players and Club staff from the 24 Championship Clubs were tested over the course of Saturday 30 May, Sunday 31 May, Monday 1 June and Tuesday 2 June with nine individuals testing positive from six Clubs.

Those players or Club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate in line with the guidelines provided by the EFL and only those who have tested negative will be permitted to enter training ground facilities.'
