QPR 1-2 Fulham

Harry Arter's equaliser was Fulham's first goal since the Championship season resumed on 20 June

Fulham kept their Championship automatic promotion hopes alive as they came from behind to beat Queens Park Rangers and put an end to their post-lockdown losing sequence.

Scott Parker's side had lost both games since resuming their season to two of their main rivals, Brentford and Leeds United.

But, despite trailing inside a minute to a Jordan Hugill header and being without suspended top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, Fulham had the character and spirit to come back and beat their west London rivals.

Harry Arter levelled after 21 minutes when he cut inside from the right and beat QPR keeper Liam Kelly at his near post with a low left-footed shot that slipped under the left hand of the former Scotland Under-21 man.

Cyrus Christie then claimed all three points with a 75th-minute stunner - the full-back's first league goal for Fulham on his 52nd appearance.

That helped Fulham keep pace with neighbours Brentford, who won 3-0 at Reading.

Parker's men remain as they started Tuesday, within two points of the Bees, but they are only two behind second-placed West Bromwich Albion, who face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Wednesday.

Fulham manage without Mitrovic
Fulham remain in contention for a top-two finish but, more realistically, the victory cements their hold on a play-off place as they are now 10 points clear of seventh-placed Preston, Swansea and Derby.

As for Mark Warburton's QPR, despite their early lead and a late rally that could so easily have brought an equaliser, they stay 14th, eight points clear of trouble with six games left.

Twice, they so nearly snatched a point with late headers from Ryan Manning. But, having hit the bar with the first before Fulham scrambled clear, he was then just off target with an even better chance.

And perhaps the worst miss QPR had to rue came in the first half when Bright Osayi-Samuel raced onto a long, sweeping ball down the left, got to the byline and pulled back only for Luke Amos, in a great position unmarked 15 yards out, to send his right-footed shot just over.

After going behind when Manning crossed for on-loan West Ham United striker Hugill to power home his 14th goal of the campaign, Fulham - without their leading scorer Mitrovic for three games - did then finally settle down.

The visitors had already gone close just before their equaliser when Bobby Decordova-Reid's speculative long-range effort came back off Kelly's right-hand post.

Although Kelly was at fault for Arter's goal, also a first league goal for Fulham, there was not much he could do about the second as an unchallenged Christie powerfully drilled in an angled shot from 25 yards which purely beat the home keeper for pace.

Reaction
QPR boss Mark Warburton: "We've given away three points. It was a very, very strong display - intensity, desire, quality. We had to maintain it in the second half and did that but we didn't get the rewards.

"There's one team in it in the second half, we've hit the bar and gone close, but we've let in two soft goals shot from distance. I have huge respect for Scott Parker and Fulham, but I don't see how that has happened.

"We should have saved both goals, simple as that, and I'm trying to think of when Liam Kelly had another save to make.

"When you play like that, the more you play like that, the belief's got to grow. And if we play like that week in week out, we'll be in a good place come the end of the season.

Fulham boss Scott Parker: "While it's disappointing to lose Aleksandar, other players are going to have to step up. He's definitely going to be a big loss for us in the next few games. How we work, everything is around him. So to the players coming in, it's a big responsibility now.

"We had to shuffle things around a bit here and obviously the result was key. But I don't think my team have deserved what we've got out of the first two games.

"The performance and the way we've played in the last two games, I've been really pleased with. We showed real character. To go a goal down as early as we did was very disappointing. It was poor on our behalf and sloppy.

"But not to drop our heads and be the team to really take it to QPR, get control of the game and have real impetus was pleasing."

Head Coach press conference

Scott Parker took to the media after seeing his side secure their first win post-lockdown. The main thing that pleased the Gaffer was the response he saw after falling behind inside a minute.

"The result was key tonight." He said.  "I don't think we've got what we deserved against Brentford and Leeds. For large parts of both games, our performance was exceptional, but the team gets judged on wins and losses. After two losses, it was a key that we got the result.

"QPR are a well-drilled team. We knew coming here would be very difficult and they were very aggressive.

"We showed character. To go a goal down early was very disappointing. It was poor and sloppy from us. The first goal is key, and we've struggled this season when we go a goal down, so to not drop our heads and to take the game to QPR was pleasing. We deserved to get our noses in front.

"We worked on our set-up in a short period of time and it worked really well and caused them a few problems.

"There'll be many more twists and turns in this division. Games come thick and fast. We just need to keep putting in performances and keep getting results. We need to stick to our process and if we do that, we'll keep the pressure on."

Fulham faced their first game without Aleksandar Mitrović following his three-game ban, and Scott was pleased with the way the rest of his squad stepped up.

"Mitro will be a big loss." He continued. "There's a big responsibility now, but I'm pleased that the players have come in and got the win. There's no hiding from the fact that we haven't got a recognised forward in the squad other than Aleks, so the way the players took to the structure was spot on. I felt we had a fluidity and looked a threat.

"As disappointed as we are to lose Aleks, it's an opportunity for others. We need them attacking players to step up. We're aware every game is different. Like always, we adapted to give us options. There's another side to us and we'll have to play a different way, but I know we can do that."

Cyrus Christie has been in and out of the starting XI for most parts this season, but when called upon, has delivered. Tonight was no different as Scott was full of praise for the Republic of Ireland defender.

"Cyrus did exceptionally well. Cyrus has had to sit and wait on occasions this year, and he's maybe felt it's been a bit unfair, but he deserved to get the winner due to his reaction and professionalism. The way he trains puts him in a position to earn that moment, and I'm very pleased for him."

The lads will take stock and recover for the visit of Birmingham on Saturday, hoping to make it back-to-back wins.

From France: Fulham sign PSG player, three-year deal agreed

Paris Saint Germain fullback Ziyad Larkeche is on his way to Fulham, according to reports from the French media today.

The 17-year-old's contract with the Ligue 1 side was expiring on Wednesday, and he'd already announced he wouldn't stay at the club.

Now according to Goal, Larkeche has already signed for the Craven Cottage side. Their report says he's agreed to a three-year deal.

The outlet claims that many French and foreign sides have been in touch for his signing in the past few weeks, but it was Fulham who convinced him of a move.

RMC Sport journalist Loic Tanzi is another who is reporting the same information. On Twitter, he's written that Larkeche has 'found' a club, and is joining Fulham.

Larkeche comes from PSG's youth ranks, and never had a chance to play for their first team. He was part of their U19 squad which featured in the UEFA Youth League this season.

Christie's strike gives Fulham derby victory over QPR

Cyrus Christie's cracking strike gave Fulham a much needed win in the west London derby.

Christie thumped home from 25 yards with 15 minutes remaining at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, where Ryan Manning headed Ebere Eze's late corner against the bar.

Harry Arter hauled Fulham, who were without the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic, level after Jordan Hugill had put QPR ahead inside the first minute.

Hugill rose above Tim Ream to head home Manning's cross.

Both teams had lost both their games since the season resumed, with Fulham's dip potentially derailing their promotion challenge.

But Arter hit back for them on 21 minutes – shortly after Harrison Reed almost equalised when his shot hit the post.

Dominic Ball and keeper Liam Kelly were at fault.

A misjudgement by Ball enabled Arter to turn away from him, and Kelly allowed the midfielder's shot to bounce over him at his near post.

Luke Amos missed a great chance to restore Rangers' lead when he blazed over after being perfectly set up by Bright Osayi-Samuel's cut-back.

And an unchallenged Bobby Decordova-Reid squandered a chance to put Fulham ahead when he headed Tom Cairney's corner over from close range four minutes before half-time.

Fulham keeper Marek Rodak then produced a fabulous save to deny Hugill, who let fly with a powerful shot on the turn after being found by Manning.

Manning also crossed for Todd Kane early in the second half, but he volleyed over.

Christie, however, emphatically capitalised after Rangers failed to close him down midway inside their half.

QPR: Kelly, Kane (Shodipo 80), Kakay, Barbet, Manning, Ball (Chair 90), Cameron, Amos, Eze, Osayi-Samuel (Oteh 80), Hugill.
Subs not used: Lumley, Rangel, Masterson, Clarke, Gubbins, Bettache.

Fulham: Rodak, Odoi, Hector, Ream, Christie, Arter (Onomah 70), Cairney, Reed, Knockaert (Bryan 70), Cordova-Reid (Le Marchand 79), Cavaleiro.
Subs not used: Bettinelli, McDonald, Johansen, De La Torre, Sessegnon, Jasper.

Cyrus Christie proves the unlikely hero as Fulham revive to earn a double over QPR

QPR 1 Fulham 2

Fulham rallied well after shipping a goal after a minute to claim a double over their west London neighbours – a rare collector's item of a goal from Cyrus Christie settling the outcome.

The Whites looked out-of-sorts at the outset and boss Scott Parker must have feared a repeat of the first two games since the resumption of the Championship – which both ended in defeat.

But after Jordan Hugill had shocked them with the opener, Harry Arter levelled it up before the break and Christie's superb strike claimed the points to ease those promotion nerves.

The game appeared to be drifting towards a draw, but on 75 minutes, Christie was given too much room, advancing onto a pass from sub Josh Onomah, and he unleashed a beautiful shot into the bottom right hand corner from outside the box.

It was his first in the league for Fulham and first since September 2017, when he scored for previous club Middlesbrough - against the Whites.

No goals and no points between the two teams in four combined games since the Championship emerged from hibernation suggested anything might happen. This was a match that both teams badly wanted to grab by the throat, but one in which the promotion-chasing visitors appeared even more moribund than their mid-table hosts early on.

The game was barely 50 seconds old when Ryan Manning swung a cross in from the left and Hugill rose above Tim Ream to nod down past a helpless Marek Rodak. It was the striker's 14th goal of the season.

Without suspended talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic, following retrospective action over his elbowing of an opponent in the 3-0 defeat at Leeds on Saturday, Fulham looked almost dejected – as if resigned to the increasingly likely prospect of having to settle for the play-offs rather than automatic promotion.

But after 20 minutes, the Whites – or reds today – finally got going and after Tom Cairney had fashioned a volley chance for Harrison Reed, which was clubbed against the base of a post, Arter drew the visitors level moments later after cutting in from the right and letting fly with his left boot.

Kelly, it should be said, ought to have done much better with the shot as it crept low inside his left-hand post.

Rangers almost regained the lead after a blistering counter-attack. Luke Amos, restored to the starting XI, set Bright Osayi-Samuel scampering away down the left and was on the end of the cutback from the flying winger, who had ghosted past Michael Hector. However, with the goal at his mercy, Amos blazed over.

Hugill also went close with a fine turn and shot with the left peg from the edge of the area – Manning having again picked him out. It needed an agile spring from Rodak to tip the ball over as it arrowed towards the top corner.

Kelly made amends for his first-half error with a fine stretching save to turn aside an Anthony Knockaert curler – one fashioned from a trademark cut inside from the right flank by the Fulham winger. But the winner soon followed.

Manning, who put in a good shift, was inches away from saving the day with a header that crashed against the bar in a game where Fulham had slightly more polish, but not the monopoly of chances.

QPR: Kelly – Kakay, Cameron, Barbet – Kane (Shodipo 80), Ball, Amos, Manning – Eze - Osayi-Samuel (Oteh 80), Hugill. Subs not used: Lumley, Shodipo, Chair, Rangel, Masterson, Bettache, Gubbins, Clarke

Fulham: Rodak – Christie, Hector, Ream, Odoi – Cairney (Sessegnon 90), Reed, Arter (Onomah 71) – Knockaert (Bryan 71), Reid (LeMarchand 79), Cavaleiro (McDonald 90). Subs not used: Bettinelli, Johansen, De la Torre, Jasper

QPR 1-2 Fulham: Cyrus Christie's winner completes comeback for Cottagers in west London derby as they move four points behind second-placed West Brom

Cyrus Christie secured the win with an unstoppable drive into the far corner
His goal takes Fulham just four points off the automatic promotion places
QPR will be frustrated after losing their lead, given to them by Jordan Hugill
It was Harry Arter who equalised to get Fulham back into the game

For all of Aleksandar Mitrovic's 23 Championship goals this season, will any prove as crucial as Cyrus Christie's first?

Here, with 15 minutes left, Fulham's promotion push stuttered towards more frustration.

Without their suspended talisman, dreams of the Promised Land drifted further away until Christie plucked a first league goal from the top drawer.

Cyrus Christie (second right) secured the win for Fulham with an unstoppable drive at QPR

Christie's impressive goal takes Fulham just four points off the automatic promotion places

From 25 yards, the right back fired beyond Liam Kelly. It took a slight deflection but the visitors won't care. With this win, they are now just four points off the automatic promotion places.

Scott Parker praised Fulham's 'character' after they came from behind. 'The result was the be all and end all,' he said.

On his match-winner, who was recalled after sitting out Fulham's past two games, he added: '(Cyrus) deserves this moment.'

QPR boss Mark Warburton said: 'We've given away three points from a very, very strong display.'

Roared on by speakers in the stands, QPR had led through Jordan Hugill's first-minute goal before Harry Arter's equaliser restored silence in this west London derby.

Christie secured the spoils but not before Ryan Manning headed off the bar. It's a huge result for Parker, whose side needed this after two straight defeats and a calamitous start here, too.

Inside a minute, Manning's floated ball from the left somehow reached Hugill, whose header bounced beyond goalkeeper Marek Rodak.

Worse could have followed before the visitors rallied. Then, shortly after Harrison Reed's effort from the edge of the box hit one post, Arter's shot from distance snuck inside the other. Kelly should have done better in the QPR goal and the same could be said for their finishing as half-time approached.

First Bright Osayi-Samuel's brilliant run ended with a pull-back to Luke Amos, who blazed over from 12 yards out.

Then Hugil and Manning combined again. From another floated cross, the striker was allowed too much space to turn on the edge of the box and curl an effort towards goal. This time Rodak was alert to the danger. Kelly redeemed himself after the break, too, tipping Anthony Knockaert's curling shot wide.

Todd Kane's vital interception later denied Ivan Cavaleiro but, as more frustration loomed, Christie's rocket made the difference.

While QPR will be left frustrated by losing after leading the game with a Jordan Hugill strike

Christie screamer secures derby win

A sensational strike from Cyrus Christie secured Fulham's first win since the resumption of Championship football as the Whites came from behind to claim all three points at Queens Park Rangers this evening.

Christie, arguably Fulham's most consistent performer on his return to the side, fired home a powerful low shot from 25 yards and settled a nervy local derby in the visitors' favour. Fulham's performance was gritty rather than convincing, but Scott Parker's side showed commendable character to overcome an awful start and record a morale-boosting victory.

Parker rejigged the Fulham back four following that defensive horror show at Leeds, shifting Denis Odoi to left back and bringing in Christie for Joe Bryan. The new-look rearguard made the worst possible start with Odoi and Christie losing possession, allowing Ryan Manning to whip a dangerous cross in from the left. Jordan Hugill climbed above Tim Ream all too easily and QPR were in front inside the very first minute.

It was hardly the sort of start Parker, who has seen Fulham's hopes of automatic promotion evaporate quickly after the lockdown, would have envisaged. His side looked largely toothless going forward, with Bobby Decordova-Reid largely ineffectual as a replacement for the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic. Their first sight of goal came from Christie, who bombed forward with intent all evening, but Liam Kelly easily gathered his speculative shot from long range.

An equaliser almost arrived courtesy of a mishit shot from the tigerish Harrison Reid but the ball spun off the base of the far post and away to safety. Fulham were gradually beginning to dominate possession, but their goal still came somewhat out of the blue. Harry Arter cut infield from the right flank and, with little other option, let fly from distance to score his first league goal for the club – although Kelly should have done better going down to his left.

The goal galvanised Fulham further. Arter was denied a second in quick succession when Ben Amos got in the way of another venomous drive, but as the first half drew to a close familiar defensive frailties came to the fore. First, Geoff Cameron released the lively Bright Osayi-Samuel down the left and, when the winger produced a great cut-back another QPR goal appeared like a formality, but Amos blasted way over the bar from twelve yards. Just before the break, Marek Rodak produced a splendid save to deny Hugill a second, springing to his right to turn over the forward's rising drive after he had tricked his way between Tom Cairney and Michael Hector.

The break came at a good time for Fulham, who were quickly on the front foot in the second half. Anthony Knockaert seized on a mistake from Yoann Barbet but Kelly scrambled across his line to palm aside the Frenchman's measured finish. The QPR goalkeeper was in the right place from the resulting corner, grabbing Michael Hector's downward header with Christie inches away from providing a decisive contact himself.

Rangers still looked dangerous going forward themselves and Todd Kane should have done better than volley an inviting centre from the dangerous Manning high into the Loft having ghosted in at the far post. It was a miss that would prove pivotal. Fulham, who had signalled their intentions with a speedy break from the back that saw Christie and Knockaert combine down the right before Kane touched the cross clear just in the nick of time, were beginning to put more pressure on the Rangers goal.

The winner came from an unlikely source. Christie had one scored once in 58 previous Fulham appearances – a similarly sweet strike at Millwall in the League Cup – and Rangers afforded him plenty of space as he moved onto a clever pass from substitute Josh Onomah. The Irish international had not been averse to pulling the trigger all night – but the quality of this finish was sublime, arrowing into the bottom corner from fully 25 yards out.

Mark Warburton quickly shuffled his pack in search of an equaliser, throwing on Aramide Oteh and Olamide Shadipo, and the final quarter of the contest saw Rangers firmly on the front foot. The home side were unfortunate not to grab a leveller deep two minutes from time when Manning headed an Eze corner against the crossbar and Fulham just about scrambled the loose ball clear. The wing-back spurned the clearest chance during six minutes of stoppage time when he looped another header over the bar from a corner as Fulham clung on to claim a much-needed three points.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS (3-5-2): Kelly; Kakay, Cameron, Barbet; Kane (Shodipo 80), Ball (Chair 89), Amos, Manning, Eze; Osayi-Samuel (Oteh 80), Hugill. Subs (not used): Lumley, Shodipo, Rangel, Masterson, Bettache, Gubbins, Clarke.

BOOKED: Manning, Hugill.

QPR 1-2 Fulham: Cottagers back to winning ways in west London derby
Report and highlights from the Sky Bet Championship clash at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium

Cyrus Christie's first league goal for Fulham earned Scott Parker's team a Championship promotion lifeline in a 2-1 win at QPR.

The Republic of Ireland full-back's thundering 25-yard drive sealed a stuttering Fulham's first points since the league resumption, following defeats by Brentford and Leeds.

Jordan Hugill headed Rangers into a first-minute lead to hand Fulham a horror start, but Harry Arter forced an equaliser amid a Liam Kelly error before Christie's stunner settled the argument.

Brentford extended their 100 per cent record since the league's resumption to three matches with a 3-0 victory at Reading, leaving Fulham sweating on a return to winning ways.

They struggled again for large parts of this Loftus Road clash, with QPR hugely unfortunate to wind up empty-handed.

Ryan Manning's late header from a corner struck the bar, with Marek Rodek beaten all ends up.

Fulham boss Parker will doubtless snatch this result with no questions asked on the night - but with plenty of improvement required in the days and weeks ahead.

Result: Fulham make timely return to winning ways at London rivals QPR

Cyrus Christie's first league goal for Fulham earned Scott Parker's men a Championship promotion lifeline in a 2-1 win at QPR.

And they struggled again for large swathes of this Loftus Road clash, with QPR hugely unfortunate to wind up empty-handed.

Ryan Manning's late header from a corner struck the bar, with Marek Rodek beaten all ends up.

Fulham boss Parker will doubtless snatch this result with no questions asked on the night – but with plenty of improvement required in the days and weeks ahead.

Parker's men must still face promotion rivals Nottingham Forest, Cardiff and West Brom in a testing run-in, and the ex-England midfielder will need no explanation of the upsurge in form that is now required.

The hosts were ahead almost before Fulham had touched the ball.

Bright Samuel laid off to Ryan Manning and the full-back stood up a hanging cross into the six-yard box.

Hugill towered over the hapless Tim Ream and nodded neatly into the bottom of the net.

Fulham needed almost 20 minutes to find their feet, with Harrison Reed eventually striking a post with a half-volley from distance.

Kelly should have saved the ugly effort and was reprieved by a post.

The Rangers stopper had no such luck, however, when Arter struck from 20 yards and his low effort squirmed home.

Kelly should have pulled off a regulation save but could only lay a weak palm to the strike.

Mark Warburton's men finished the half the stronger, however, and should have been back in front when Samuel conjured a perfect cut-back from the left flank.

Luke Amos raced on to a ball that was positively begging to be buried, but blazed wildly over when placement would have done the trick.

The lurking Ebere Eze had given way to the onrushing Amos, and was immediately and obviously kicking himself for the unselfish act.

As the half dwindled out, Hugill chested down, spun goalwards and lashed towards the top corner from 20 yards, but Rodak was able to tip over the bar.

Anthony Knockaert saw a curled effort tipped away by Kelly after the break, before Michael Hector headed the resulting corner straight at the home goalkeeper.

For large swathes Rangers appeared to be pushing the harder for a winner, but one crisp strike was all it took for that to change.

Full-back Christie latched on to the ball 30 yards out, trotted forward five more and hammered the ball cleanly into the net.

This time QPR keeper Kelly had absolutely no chance, as Fulham's Coventry-born defender produced the decisive moment.

Parker calls for Fulham stars to 'step up' after derby win

Scott Parker has called for Fulham's attacking players to "step up" in the absence of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

With their star striker sitting out the first match of a three-game ban, Fulham came from behind to win 2-1 at QPR in the west London derby.

And manager Parker is looking for a big effort from his side in their remaining two games without Mitrovic as the Whites battle for promotion.

He said: "There's no hiding from the fact that we haven't got another recognised forward in our squad.

"During these moments, as disappointed as we are that we lose him, it's an opportunity for other players to come to the fore and we are going to need them attacking players in our team.

"They need to step up. The Anthony Knockaerts, the Ivan Cavaleiros, the Bobby Reids and the Tom Cairneys in attacking positions are going to have to step up."

After recent defeats against promotion rivals Leeds and Brentford, a win was crucial for Parker's side as they compete for a return to the top flight.

"The result was the be-all and-all," Parker admitted.

"After two losses it was key that we got the result."

Championship round-up: Cyrus Christie and Harry Arter score in Fulham victory

Cyrus Christie (far left) looks on as his thunderbolt finds the back of the net

Cyrus Christie's first league goal for Fulham earned Scott Parker's men a Championship promotion lifeline in a 2-1 win at QPR.

The Republic of Ireland full-back's thundering 25-yard drive sealed a stuttering Fulham's first points since the league resumption, following defeats by Brentford and Leeds.

Jordan Hugill headed Rangers into a first-minute lead to hand Fulham a horror start, but Christie's Ireland colleague Harry Arter forced an equaliser amid a Liam Kelly error before Christie's stunner settled the argument.

Brentford extended their 100% record since the league's resumption to three matches with Bryan Mbeumo,  Josh Dasilva and Joel Valenciaa ensuring a 3-0 victory at Reading, leaving Fulham sweating on a return to winning ways.

And they struggled again for large swathes of the Loftus Road clash, with QPR hugely unfortunate to wind up empty-handed.

Galway native Ryan Manning struck the bar with a late header, with Marek Rodek beaten all ends up.

Fulham boss Parker will doubtless snatch this result with no questions asked on the night, but with plenty of improvement required in the days and weeks ahead.

Parker's men must still face promotion rivals Nottingham Forest, Cardiff and West Brom in a testing run-in, and the ex-England midfielder will need no explanation of the upsurge in form that is now required.

Leeds extended their lead at the top of the table, but by only one point after being held 1-1 at home against relegation battlers Luton.

Substitute Harry Cornick curled Luton into an early second-half lead and when Stuart Dallas fired Leeds level just after the hour, it appeared there would be only one winner.

But Luton, who climbed off the bottom of the table after Saturday's win at Swansea, withstood a second-half onslaught and gave boss Nathan Jones everything in their fight for survival.

Paul Cook's Wigan made it nine matches unbeaten, and seven clean sheets in a row, with a 3-0 thumping of Michael O'Neill's struggling Stoke.

Wigan themselves have spent most of the season deep in a relegation battle, but their remarkable recent form has lifted them to the lofty heights of 14th, eight points clear of the drop zone.

Despite dominating for pretty much the whole game, Wigan had to wait 40 minutes to open the scoring, through Kieran Dowell.

And after Jamal Lowe was denied by the crossbar shortly after the restart, two more goals inside three minutes from substitute Kal Naismith gave the scoreline a far more accurate look.

Stoke were poor throughout and they threw away the only real chance that came their way early on when Nathan Collins somehow put a free header well wide of David Marshall's goal.

Barnsley boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 home win over Blackburn.

Conor Chaplin and Jacob Brown got on the scoresheet in the second half, while Rovers had Ben Brereton sent off just before the second goal.

The Tykes are now a point adrift of safety having moved off the bottom to 23rd, swapping places with Luton.

Millwall and Swansea drew 1-1 at the Den, leaving the gap between them and the play-off places at five and four points respectively.

Mason Bennett put the home side in front before an own goal from Lions goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski earned Swansea a point.

Cardiff, in sixth, were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Charlton.

Parker pleased with Fulham's 'character'

Scott Parker praised his side's 'character' after Fulham bounced back from two damaging defeats to record a valuable win in the local derby at Queens Park Rangers.

The Fulham manager was delighted that his team fought back from the shock of conceding the opening goal to Jordan Hugill inside the first minute and claimed all three points in the absence of the suspended Aleskandar Mitrovic. Parker told his post-match press conference that grabbing the three points was the important thing – and that he believed his side had been unfortunate in their first two outings since the resumption of the Championship season.

The result was key tonight. I don't think we've got what we deserved against Brentford and Leeds. For large parts of both games, our performance was exceptional, but the team gets judged on wins and losses. After two losses, it was a key that we got the result.

QPR are a well-drilled team. We knew coming here would be very difficult and they were very aggressive. We showed character. To go a goal down early was very disappointing. It was poor and sloppy from us. The first goal is key, and we've struggled this season when we go a goal down, so to not drop our heads and to take the game to QPR was pleasing. We deserved to get our noses in front.

We worked on our set-up in a short period of time and it worked really well and caused them a few problems. There'll be many more twists and turns in this division. Games come thick and fast. We just need to keep putting in performances and keep getting results. We need to stick to our process and if we do that, we'll keep the pressure on.

Mitro will be a big loss. There's a big responsibility now, but I'm pleased that the players have come in and got the win. There's no hiding from the fact that we haven't got a recognised forward in the squad other than Aleks, so the way the players took to the structure was spot on. I felt we had a fluidity and looked a threat. As disappointed as we are to lose Aleks, it's an opportunity for others. We need them attacking players to step up. We're aware every game is different. Like always, we adapted to give us options. There's another side to us and we'll have to play a different way, but I know we can do that.

Parker was also full of praise for Fulham's matchwinner Cyrus Christie, whose adventurous display from right back was capped with a fine goal.

Cyrus did exceptionally well. Cyrus has had to sit and wait on occasions this year, and he's maybe felt it's been a bit unfair, but he deserved to get the winner due to his reaction and professionalism. The way he trains puts him in a position to earn that moment, and I'm very pleased for him

Cyrus Christie's blast hands Fulham a timely boost

CYRUS CHRISTIE fired Fulham's winner as they moved up to fourth with a 2-1 derby win at QPR.

Jordan Hugill put the Hoops ahead in the first minute but Harry Arter and Christie (above) secured Fulham's first points since the restart.

Play-off chasers Millwall and Swansea shared the spoils after Mason Bennett's opener was cancelled out by Rhian Brewster's fine free-kick while Cardiff were held 0-0 in a boost to visitors Charlton's survival hopes.

Kal Naismith netted twice as a 3-0 win for Wigan plunged Stoke deeper into the relegation mire.

Barnsley are one point off safety after Conor Chaplin and Jacob Brown netted in their 2-0 win over Blackburn.

'Should be a starter' – Plenty of Fulham fans react to 27-year-old's midweek performance

Fulham picked up their first win since the season's restart after defeating Queens Park Rangers by two goals to one in West London last night.

It has been a stuttering restart to the campaign for Scott Parker's side, who were going into Tuesday night's clash on the back of defeats to promotion rivals Brentford and Leeds.

It looked like it was going to be another frustrating night for the Cottagers, too, when Jordan Hugill netted in the opening minute of the encounter.

Parker's men didn't shy away, though, and found an equaliser on 21 minutes through midfielder Harry Arter, to level the scores.

In the second half, it was defender Cyrus Christie who found a winner for the visitors, firing in a fantastic effort on 75 minutes to secure an invaluable three points.

It was just rewards for a fine individual performance from Christie, who was hugely impressive down the right-hand side for Fulham on Tuesday night.

This was the 27-year-old's first appearance since the season's restart having been overlooked ahead of Denis Odoi, and he will now be hopeful of retaining his place in the team.
