So imagine being SWFC and having to start in 12th place next season  :016:
Anyone can blend into the crowd.  How will you standout when it counts?

Fulhamfan666

ugh another one? This is really really getting silly now.

MikeTheCubed

But Wigan get their point deduction immediately?

The Rock

Wigan being deducted and now relegated already and SWFC (and potentially Derby) being deducted next season reeks of blatant inconsistency. Did Wigan violate FFP/enter administration at a significantly earlier point in time vs. SWFC and Derby?

Buffalo76

Supposed to be the hottest day of the year today, not in Sheffield... heard it's minus 12😉

Tempest

Wigan were relegated as the deduction took them into the relegation places, Sheffield Wednesday would still stay up on goal difference and therefore no real penalty.  Teams need to be punished to the maximum for things like this so 12 points next season will mean a very tough season for them.

They breached rules by including the sale of their Hillsborough Stadium home in their 2017-18 accounts despite the ground being sold a year later.

SW would have finished bottom on 44 points.

That really is no way to start any league competition.

Sgt Fulham

One less competitor if we're still in the league. Really do think it is unfair on the fans though.

it should be this season and they should be relegated and Charlton get saved

Motspur Park

It seems that the reason it is next season and not this is because they were deemed bot toave deliberately concealed information. Charlton are waiting for an explanation before considering a legal challenge.

My view is that it is complete hypocrisy and though the Wednesday charge is completely different to Wigan's, there is no reason for the penalty to be dished out so late and the deduction should have been this season.

The thing is that all these penalties can be appealed. Wigan's is 'black & white', even so they do have grounds to appeal.

Actually Wigan went into administration much later than Sheffield Wednesday breached FFP.

But they are two completely different things.

As pointed out by rebel above, Wigan's case was very simple. They went into administration. Simple, bang - automatic 12 point deduction. No need for a long, drawn out investigation and disciplinary process, no chance of appeal.

Wednesday's case would have required a long investigation, the appropriate sanction wasn't set in stone, and I suspect there's a chance they could now appeal it, risking an absurd situation if they're relegated now then it's overturned later.

To be honest I'm not sure why people seem to think every financial/FFP case is exactly the same and any difference in timing, the sanction or the success of an appeal, leads to cries of "inconsistency" or double standards.
