Really excited by this purchase -have seen play several times for Wigan and there is definitely great potential in this lad. Great in attack, unbelievable engine abut also strong defensively with a good burst of speed.

I personally think we shouldn't get too sentimental about Bryan. If the pain is to push Joe further forward then great but ultimately Joe was found wanting at LB in both premier league and at times in the championship so if he moves on for the right price then fair enough.

His 2 goals at Wembley however will never be forgotten ...

Joe has talked in recent interviews about working hard on the defensive side of his game and imo it showed in the latter games last season. He was tackling with more bite and paying more attention to his defensive positioning. I see no reason to start him based on "sentiment". He should start based on ability, assuming Parker thinks he is our best option.

Agreed.   There was a game where Joe didn't close out on an attacker...and Michael went in on him for letting his man send in the cross.   Since then I've thought Joe has played very well defensively.

Especially in the Championship game.

Regarding the Robinson vs Bryan discussion is Robinson playing as RB a possibility.
The reason I suggest this is that when we played Wigan at home early in the season, and Bryan scored our first goal,  I have a recollection that when chasing the game in the latter part of the second half didn't he switch over to a RWB position & his pace gave our defence the runaround?
Quite a few of us in our area of the Hammy remarked that night how he stood out with his pace and drive and wouldn't mind seeing him in our side!

Robinson is more in the 'complete fullback' mould than Bryan. Watching clips of him this season he reminds me of a version of Fredericks who isn't quite as fast BUT looks like a stronger defender. Bryan is a good player but I've always seen him as more of a wing back or even a left midfielder than a left back suited to a defence of 4. Parker has played Bryan on the left wing before this season (Villa in the cup comes to mind) and it might possibly be that he would like to deploy him in that position but he just wasn't able to because we were lacking so much in left back reinforcements. Anyone who says this wasn't a position we needed to strengthen in is mad. Yes we have Joe Bryan but lets say he gets injured first game of the season.. we're screwed! We definitely need a premiership quality right back but before Robinson signed we had 3 right backs and literally 1 left back. Great signing and hopefully the first of a few in the positions we need. COYW'S!

The thing about Robinson is he learns and has improved greatly in the last couple years as a defender, since he's always been a stellar athlete and offensive option at LB.  He played for the US in a couple friendlies a few years back and went viral after he got done by Douglas Costa (not alone in that, obv).  And it was clear that he had been using his athleticism to offset his bad positioning and angles, and when you face comparable athletes, well, that happens.

But over the last couple seasons you could see his improvement and maturity as a defender in knowing when to press and when to cut off angles, as well as working in concert with his CB and midfielders.  I think he's been Prem ready for a while and it will be a good test for him as a defender.  But when you imagine that Fulham will likely need to be compact and spring on the counter against the better teams, Robinson is just a rocket of a player with the ball at his feet.  Him pumping crosses in to Mitro will be a real threat for us.

Hello, first post here. Friend of Fulham Dodger who some of you might know.

Antonee is a very good player, prototypical size, speed, with upside. Under good coaching from Parker and his staff he should do well at the Cottage.

As a international he will get called up regularly to the USMNT, he should be behind Sergino Dest (Ajax) in pecking order at LB and should be on the senior team when they start world cup qualifying next year. USMNT manager Brian Berhalter commented today  "When you think about that left-back spot being open and being contested, it's a good opportunity for Antonee playing at a high level to prove that he wants to be and is capable of being the left back for the national team," Berhalter said.

I think he will continue the line of good American players at Craven Cottage and enjoy the fine club and supporters of Fulham FC.

Respect & Cheers, Jim

I Agree. I wouldn't have been interested 2 years ago and neither were Everton. I wonder whether there was any truth in them wanting to take him back? Not being funny if you felt you made a mistake and he was available for 2mil you probably would be interested. But he's certainly upped his game and massively improved and that's why he had plenty of prem interest. There's plenty of other reasons why he picked us but I do really like our American connection. Yes he's English but he's a US international so he's another American on our books in my eyes.

A decent addition to the squad, we now have 22 full-aged players so we need at least three more full aged players and I'd like at least another two youth players, like S.Sessesgon, ready play on a premier league bench if required.

If I recall correctly Joe Bryan got injured within the first few games of the PL season and we didn't have any specialist cover, trying a combo of MLM and Sessegnon. We certainly 2 quality players in each full back position. Let the best man start.

Bryan (if he stays), Robinson and Odoi are possibles for the left back position. Can't think of a time when the left back place has been so well covered.
