We genuinely must have one of if not the worst penalty record in football right now. Both in terms of scoring and saving them.

All his good work this season, thrown away. He's going to be in a lot of memes.

Actually so pissed off. We're not going to play many "easier"  away games than west ham this season.

Uhm...not sure which year you think this is.  West Ham are on form.    There is no way this would have been an "easy" away fixture.

They lost by a goal to Liverpool and Arsenal, drew with Spurs and Man City...

Bloody awful penalty.

So gutting as well as we deserved at least a point from that game.

An excellent 90 minutes undone by 4 minutes of madness.

Surely our subs should be used more effectively to freshen legs than as just a seeming afterthought ?

I have always thought Cairney is our best penalty taker, not Mitrovic.  I guess Lookman must have impressed in training, but that "effort" will probably see him never being entrusted again.  Galling to read the BBC text correspondent's "hahahahaha" and to think of the likely schoolboy sniggering of Lineker, Wright and Shearer on Match of the Day tonight. Hope it is Danny Murphy.

At least Declan Rice shows a bit of decency: ""Look at his all-round performance he was top class, Ademola Lookman shouldn't be too down on himself."

There should be fines handed out for penalties that either do not hit the target or are just plain dogshit like that one

100% disagree on Cairney, his one footedness means you always know where his pens will go, i.e. bottom right corner - I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s all he’s ever aimed for with his pens for us.

We certainly shouldn’t hang the boy out to dry- he is doing everything he can- just don’t think we should have changed itMitro is far more experienced

What do you mean by this? Isn’t it clear almost always what foot a player is going to use? And does that mean that you know what way the penalty will go? If Cairney could only use his left foot to aim right, how on earth did he score that goal against palace, because that went just inside the left post, not the right. I can’t make any sense of your comment at all.

Confused as to why Mitro isn’t taking that?

Tonight we’ve seen two set pieces taken by the wrong players. Free kick by Mitro not Cairney on edge of area and penalty by Lookman not Mitro. Cost us three points.

Sort it out Parker!

However, positives were that we defended well as a team. Areola, Aina, Cairney, D Reid and Mitro played very well.

Didn't Mitro shoot his last penalty attempt over the bar?

Scored every penalty prior to that and is our golden boot winner last year! Clearly the man to take it and I’m amazed we learned nothing from the AK penalty saga.

Anyway.. hate to lock this thread once I’ve posted (so you can’t reply!) but it’s quite late so join us on the main discussion forum for some more debate!
