Ollie Watkins: Fulham join race to sign Brentford striker
Fulham face competition from Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and fellow promoted side West Brom

Fulham have entered the race to sign Ollie Watkins from Brentford and are in talks with the Championship club over the striker.

Watkins became a target for several Premier League sides after the Bees missed out on promotion to the Premier League, losing in the play-off final to Fulham earlier this month.

The 24-year-old was second in the Championship scoring charts last season, his 25 goals leaving him behind only Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Fulham face competition from Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and fellow promoted side West Brom to sign Watkins, who Brentford value in excess of £25m.

Scott Parker's side are also interested in signing Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, who is likely to secure a return to the Premier League following the Cherries' relegation from the top flight.

Brentford's impressive 2019/20 campaign, which saw them narrowly miss out on automatic promotion before suffering play-off heartbreak, has generated interest in several of their key players.

West Brom are interested in signing full-back Rico Henry along with Watkins, while forward Said Benrahma is also attracting attention from Premier League clubs.

Both the Premier League and Championship seasons begin on the weekend of September 12.

Report: West Ham and Fulham considering offers close to star’s £18m asking price

West Ham United, Fulham and an unnamed English club are seriously considering moving forward with formal proposals for the Sporting winger Jovane Cabral, according to reports in Portugal.

A Bola claims those offers would be close to what the Sporting administration intends to negotiate for –  €20 million (around £18m), plus clauses.

Both West Ham and Fulham have already been linked with moves for Cabral in the summer transfer window, but there is little indication, as yet, as to the identity of the third alleged suitor.

Cabral scored or made nine goals in 16 league games for the Portuguese giants last season, all but three of which arrived in an eight-match spell following the June restart.

Despite that, there are no guarantees the 22-year-old would walk straight into the first elevens of West Ham or Fulham, should he join either club.

West Ham’s wide options already comprise Andriy Yarmolenko, Robert Snodgrass, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Grady Diangana, with Fulham counting Anthony Knockaert, Ivan Cavaleiro, Neeskens Kebano, Bobby Decordova-Reid and Aboubakar Kamara among theirs.

Jenz Joins FC Lausanne-Sport

The Club can today confirm that Under-23s centre-back Moritz Jenz has joined Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport on a permanent deal.

Moritz joined Fulham at the age of 16 and after spending time with the Under-16s, signed a scholarship deal in the Summer of 2015.

He was made Under-18s captain a year later and his consistently strong performances saw him continue to climb the ranks.

We would like to thank Moritz and wish him all the best for the future.

Fulham enter Watkins race

Fulham are the latest Premier League side to register their interest in Brentford forward Ollie Watkins, according to reports this afternoon.

The Whites are understood to have made an approach to their local rivals regarding the availability of the 24 year-old, who scored 26 goals as the Bees’ hopes of making the Premier League were dashed in the closing weeks of the regular season before Thomas Frank’s side were beaten by Joe Bryan’s brace in the play-off final at Wembley.

Fulham are in discussions with Brentford about Watkins, who has also attracted interest from the likes of Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and West Brom. Villa are thought to be at the front of the queue to sign the former Exeter City forward as boss Dean Smith was the man who took Watkins to Griffin Park in July 2017 for a reported £1.7m fee. The Midlands club have been rumoured to be ready to table an £18m offer – with Brentford understood to be hoping to recoup £50m for Watkins and winger Said Benrahma if the pair make expected moves to the Premier League this summer.

Watkins scored 26 goals in 78 senior appearances in three years at Exeter and was gradually converted from a left-wing role to a more orthodox centre forward last year. He finished second to Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic in the Championship scoring charts this season – and the Cottagers are now keen to try and pair them together ahead of the new Premier League campaign next month.

Opinion: Why QPR star Eze is not what Fulham need right now

Ebere Eze is wanted by Fulham, who appear ready to close the gap on the £20m asking fee demanded by QPR.

But why?

A Premier League club would argue that two for every position is a given, and that’s where the coveted 22-year-old fits in.

But make no mistake.

Fulham captain Tom Cairney and Eze are pretty much the same player.

Neither are lightning quick, but both have a magnificent first touch; along with vision and control of the space in midfield.

They each bag their fair share of goals.

Last season, Cairney hit eight in all competitions from 43 appearances, but was thought by many Whites fans to be a steady 7/10, and not quite the same force that sent Fulham to the Premier League in 2017.

Not that goals were a problem to Scott Parker’s side.

After all, they finished with Aleksandar Mitrovic as the Championship’s leading scorer on 26, and winner of the Golden Boot.

Eze’s fine contribution of 14 goals for the R’s was more varied.

Shots from distance, Cairney’s forté, as well as close-in finishes from every angle were a godsend to a club short of firepower, especially after Nahki Wells’ departure to Bristol City in January.

Eze has also played on the wing, notably on the left, but Cairney too has done his stint hugging the Cottage right touchline when required.

The latter has a contract keeping at Fulham until 2024, and Cairney in the role of understudy is unlikely.

He is a Cottage favourite, and being left out at the expense of an Eze would not sit well with the 29-year-old.
Fulham captain Tom Cairney

The current Fulham set-up utilises two speedy wingers with Cairney at the centre of midfield, and often a second forward playing off Mitrovic.

Is this where Eze could be used instead? Or would he be willing to warm a Premier League bench – at least at the outset?

Would the ambitious talent think his chances better somewhere else like Crystal Palace or West Ham, where his first-team hopes might be realised all the sooner?

As it stands, both Eze and Cairney in the same Fulham team appears far-fetched.

But both in the same club would send out a serious message Fulham have no intention of repeating their hapless 2018-19 role as the Premier League’s cannon fodder.

Fulham looking to go big with interest in 2 EFL strikers valued at £28.8m

Sky Bet Championship Play-Off winners Fulham aren’t content with resting on the laurels of Aleksander Mitrovic and are said by West London Sport to be going huge to land the twin talents of Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and Brentford hotshot Ollie Watkins.

Fulham were relegated two seasons ago from the Premier League, with Mitrovic their main source of firepower in the top-tier, as he was in last season’s Championship. However, Scott Parker’s boys are leaving nothing to chance and are credited with an interest in both Wilson and Watkins in a move that would add serious fire to the Cottagers attack.

West London Sport’s Lyall Thomas says that Fulham “have made an approach” for near-neighbours Brentford’s goal-laden striker Ollie Watkins. The former Exeter City man, bought by the Bees for £1.8m scored 26 goals in a stellar season last time out. Numerous clubs have a degree of interest in Watkins but Fulham are the first side to have been credited with a move of sorts.

The Cottagers are also interested in relegated Bournemouth’s striker Callum Wilson. Wilson signed for the Cherries in 2014, joining them from boyhood club Coventry City. Since signing for Bournemouth, Wilson has made 187 appearances, scored 67 goals and provided 30 assists. 126 of those games, 41 of those goals and 16 of those assists have been in the Premier League

Should Fulham be successful in landing both, they will have a formidable front three next year and one that you’d fancy to scare some sides half to death.

Report: Fulham in talks to sign Aston Villa and Leeds target Ollie Watkins

According to reports from Sky Sports, Fulham have joined the race to sign Ollie Watkins from Brentford in the summer transfer window.

The report claims that the newly-promoted Premier League side are in talks to sign the 24-year-old versatile forward.

Watkins is wanted by several Premier League sides after the Bees missed out on promotion to the Premier League, losing in the play-off final to Fulham earlier this month.

Fulham are looking to bring him to Craven Cottage this summer, but face competition from Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and fellow promoted side West Brom.

According to Phil Hay of the Athletic, Leeds are also interested in signing Watkins who is valued by Brentford in excess of £25m. However, the Whites are closing in on a deal for Valencia winger Rodrigo, and sees Watkins only as an ‘alternative option’.

Watkins was simply outstanding for the Bees last season. He was second in the Championship scoring charts last season, having scored 25 goals leaving him only behind Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic.

According to reports from Express and Star, Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is interested to sign Watkins. He remains Villa’s first-choice target, although Smith could opt for someone with a proven Premier League experience.

Leicester chasing Bryan

Leicester are lining up a move for Fulham left back Joe Bryan as they prepare for life without Ben Chilwell, according to a report from the Sun tonight.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers views Fulham’s Wembley promotion-winning hero as a potential replacement for Chilwell, who is rumoured to be close to sealing to Chelsea. The tabloid names Atalanta attacking full back Robin Gosens as Leicester’s number one target – but with the Italian club slapping a £27m price tag on one of their prize assets and a host of suitors across Europe interested in signing the 26-year-old, City have drawn up alternative plans.

Bryan has featured prominently on Leicester’s radar for a while – with Rodgers an admirer of the former Bristol City full-back long before his Wembley brace that sealed Fulham’s promotion back to the Premier League earlier this month. Leicester are keen to see whether Antonee Robinson’s arrival at Craven Cottage could tempt Fulham to part with Bryan, but the Sun suggests that the Londoners would only consider offers of around £15m. Bryan struggled in the top flight during his first season in west London but has firmly established himself as Scott Parker’s first choice left back – making 80 appearances and scoring four goals for the Whites.

Roma Have Figure In Mind For Fulham Linked Patrik Schick

Roma have set a steep asking price for striker Patrik Schick, who is interesting Fulham and Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old striker spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig and scored ten times in 22 appearances in the Bundesliga as he impressed.

He is not part of Roma’s plans going forward and the club are actively seeking to sell him in the ongoing transfer window.

Bayer Leverkusen are pushing to land the player this summer, but they are facing competition from Fulham, who also have their eyes on Schick.

Roma are ready to let him go, but according to Italian outlet LaRoma24.it, the Serie A giants have set their stall out for €30m before agreeing to sell the forward.

Schick still has two years left on his Roma contract and at 24, he is young enough to further develop into a top forward.

Roma believe that €30m is a fair price for Schick and are prepared to hold out for that sum.

Leverkusen are close to agreeing on a deal to sell Kai Havertz to Chelsea and will have the funds to sign the Czech Republic forward.

Fulham however boast Premier League finances after winning promotion last season.

QPR winger Eberechi Eze on verge of £19.5m move to Crystal Palace - ignoring interest from Fulham and West Brom

Crystal Palace are close to competing the £19.5m signing of QPR's Eberechi Eze
The 22-year-old had his heart set on Palace despite interest from elsewhere
Fellow Premier League clubs Fulham and West Brom were also keen on Eze
He will have a medical in the next few days and personal terms will be agreed

Crystal Palace have had a £14million bid accepted by QPR for winger Eberechi Eze.

The fee will rise to £19.5m for the 22-year old who also had interest from Fulham and West Brom but had set his heart on Palace.

Eze will have a medical in the next few days, and personal terms will be agreed between both parties.

Eberechi Eze is closing in on a move to Crystal Palace this summer from Queens Park Rangers

QPR manager Mark Warburton confirmed at the weekend that the club are listening to appropriate offers for the player.

Any situation for any player is resolved when the value of a player is met, that's how you resolve a situation,' Warburton told Sky Sports.

'You make sure the value is appropriate, the value is correct, and when that value is met we wish everyone the best of luck going forward. That's the way it is at QPR.'

Palace have also bid for Mainz striker Jean Philippe Mateta, in the region of £14.5m.

Why Lionel Messi should sign for Fulham

We never thought we’d ever see the day where Lionel Messi might ever consider playing in anything else than Barcelona’s iconic red and blue stripes, however after Tuesday night’s news that Messi dusted off his fax machine and sent in a transfer request to the powers that be, every super club on the planet will have taken notice.

Yes, much bigger fish will be circling to offer Leo one of the most lucrative contracts in sporting history, but here are five reasons why the banks of the River Thames is the ideal location for this world beating number 10.

1) Retirement Home of Champions
He may seem immortal when on the pitch, but at 33, Lionel Messi is not getting any younger. He needs a club where he can play out his final years in luxury.

Fulham has commonly been the football equivalent of a SAGA holiday, we’ll take good care of you, but we’ll also respect your dignity. George Best, Bobby Moore, Rodney Marsh, Damien Duff, Dimitar Berbatov and Danny Murphy have all enjoyed their time at Fulham whilst being slightly past the peak of their powers.

Watch this video below of Best and Marsh taking the piss out of Hereford United and tell me that doesn’t look fun?

2) Beautiful Player, Beautiful Location
Just like the Sagrada Familia in Barca, the Cottage is a historical place of worship that hasn’t been finished yet. When it comes down to it, there aren’t many finer places to show your skills than little old Craven Cottage by the river.

Also, I’m sure the Fulham WAGs will be more than happy to show Mrs Messi where the secret stash of Prosecco is kept in the famous pavilion.

3) Low Pressure
In recent years, Leo has looked like a man who has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Barca and Argentina have been counting on him to single handedly carry them to glory.

At Fulham, you’d undeniably be our best player, but there won’t be any real pressure. You can perform well one in every five games, get us to 40 points and we’ll be just fine. Pura vida!

4) The Cottage Carousel
Scott Parker loves possession, like, he really loves it. We don’t always do that much with all the possession, but we can definitely make sure the ball is at your feet a lot. We made 1000 passes in a game last year against Millwall, and with Messi in the side, I don’t see why we can’t get that to 2000 against a Palace or a Burnley.

We’ll lose 1-0, but with stats like those, who cares?

5) An Iconic Partnership Made Possible
One of the greatest tragedies of our time, is that Lionel Messi wasn’t born in the same era as Diego Maradona and therefore we never saw them share a pitch together.

However, we have the next best thing, Josh Maradonomah. Imagine Josh and Lionel both waiting outside the penalty box. You wouldn’t know which of them is going to take the ball, maze past the entire defence and slot it in the corner.

Your Turn TK
There we have it, five excellent reasons why the G.O.A.T. should weave his way to the black and white side of SW6. Also, we’ve had a word with the landlords of the Golden Lion, Fulham’s iconic boozer, and they’re more than happy to change the name to ‘The Golden Lionel’ if you put pen to paper. What greater honour could there be?

Tony Khan, make the phone call, find that £200 million down the back of Dad’s sofa and send Señor Messi this list. It’s truly a match made in heaven.

P.S Tom Cairney, you might need to give up that number 10 shirt mate. Just do it, don’t make a fuss.

Leicester eye Bryan as Chelsea close in on Chilwell

Joe Bryan is among the potential replacements for Ben Chilwell being considered by Leicester.

Chelsea are close to completing a deal to sign England left-back Chilwell, 23, from the East Midlands club.

And Leicester have identified Bryan, 26, as a possible signing.

Bryan was Fulham’s play-off final hero, with his two extra-time goals clinching victory over Brentford at Wembley and the Whites’ return to the top flight.

He has made 78 appearances for Fulham since being signed from Bristol City two years ago.

Fulham recently signed left-back Antonee Robinson from Wigan.

Meanwhile, the Whites have made an approach for Brentford star Ollie Watkins and are also interested in Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

But they will miss out on QPR forward Ebere Eze, who is set to join Crystal Palace.

Leicester City 'target Fulham's play-off hero Joe Bryan and Atalanta full-back Robin Gosens' as Brendan Rodgers eyes replacement for £50million Chelsea-bound Ben Chilwell

Leicester City are set to lose Ben Chilwell to Chelsea this summer for £50million
Brendan Rodgers has drawn up a list of candidates to replace the outgoing star
Joe Bryan fired Fulham back into the Premier League during the play-off final
Robin Gosens has impressed during Atalanta's run in Europe this season

Joe Bryan and Robin Gosens are at the top of Brendan Rodgers' wishlist as Leicester City prepare to replace the outgoing Ben Chilwell.

Chilwell is on the verge of completing a £50million move to Chelsea, one that will see the Foxes stripped of options at left-back.

However, The Sun reports that a list has already been drawn up, with Fulham's Bryan and Atalanta stopper Gosens at the head of it.

Leicester City will target Joe Bryan as they look to replace outgoing defender Ben Chilwell

Bryan proved to be Fulham's promotion hero earlier this month, as he grabbed the two goals that sent the west London club back to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old joined the Cottagers from Bristol City for just over £6m back in 2018, and the Sun report that a bid of somewhere close to £15m could be to tempting for Fulham to turn down.

Meanwhile, Gosens starred in the Atlanta side that reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Robin Gosens is another potential replacement for the Chelsea-bound England full-back

He cost the Serie A side just £800,000 back in 2017, but is now valued by his club at close to £27m.

At Leicester, 19-year-old Luke Thomas has signed a new deal after he impressed towards the end of the season.

Predominantly used as a left midfielder, Thomas made three appearances in July as the season played out to a conclusion. He can also cover at left back.

Chilwell is on the verge of joining the Stamford Bridge outfit in a £50million move this summer

Rodgers will need the chance to spend in order to fill the void that will be left at left-back

Fulham interest in EFL-bound attacker remains in wake of emerging Ollie Watkins news

AFC Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson remains of interest at Fulham, as the Cottagers plan on strengthening their squad ahead of a return to the Premier League.

There were contrasting fortunes for Bournemouth and Fulham last season in their respective divisions. The Cherries were relegated back into the Championship, with Fulham escaping the second-tier at the first time of asking.

Scott Parker has Aleksandar Mitrovic leading the line for Fulham, but there’s interest in signing another forward to ease the goalscoring burden on the Serbian.

As per Sky Sports’ Transfer Centre (25/08, 16:50), there’s still an interest in Wilson, who has been with Bournemouth since 2014 and has played the bulk of that stint in the Premier League.

In 171 league appearances for the Cherries, the 28-year-old has 61 league goals. 20 of those came in the Championship in 2014/15 as Bournemouth won promotion, with the England international’s best Premier League tally coming just two seasons ago.

In 2018/19, he struck 14 goals in 30 Premier League appearances.

It’s noted that alongside Wilson, Fulham are in talks with Ollie Watkins at Brentford.

Last season, the 24-year-old scored 26 goals for the Bees, who were beaten in the play-off final by Fulham.

The Verdict

You’d imagine that it would be one from Wilson or Watkins for Fulham, they don’t need both given Mitrovic’s presence in the squad.

In Wilson, you have a player that’s proven in the Premier League and about to hit the peak of his career, but in Watkins, you’ve got spades of potential and he could get to the level Wilson is at.

However, Fulham fans can’t turn their nose up at either, both would be such good signings ahead of their Premier League return.

‘I like the sound of this potential deal’ – Watford initiate transfer talks to sign 26-year-old: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘The Verdict‘ series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Watford have opened talks with Fulham in an attempt to sign centre-back Alfie Mawson, as per Football Insider.

The 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact at Craven Cottage ever since his big money move in 2018, with several injury niggles combined with poor form hampering his progress in west London.

New Hornets boss Vladimir Ivic will be looking to mould together a squad that can challenge for an immediate return to the Premier League, and Mawson seemingly is seen as someone who can add an element of experience to their backline.

So, what do you make of this from a Watford perspective? Good potential signing?

The team here at FLW take a look….

Ned Holmes

This could be a very shrewd signing from Watford.

Mawson has fallen out of favour at Fulham over the past few seasons and with Scott Parker’s side securing promotion to the Premier League, you feel it may be hard for him to fight back into contention.

That should mean that he’s available and if Watford can get him back to the sort of level he was playing at for Swansea, it would be an excellent signing.

At his best, Mawson is a physical and commanding centre-back, who is confident with the ball at his feet and comfortable bringing it out of defence.

Clearly, a player like that would be appealing to any side in the Championship – particularly for Watford who are looking to rebuild somewhat following relegation.

The Hornets have got some decent options at centre-back but their defence was an issue last season and Mawson could be just the sort of leader to help transform it.

It’s a risk given he’s not looked his best at Fulham but one worth taking for me.

Jacob Potter

I like the sound of this potential deal.

Mawson wasn’t given enough of a chance to impress with Fulham in the second-half of the 2019/20 season but I think he could be a solid addition to the Watford team.

The Hornets need players that are experienced in the Championship, and Mawson fits that description well.

He also has experience of playing in the Premier League whilst with Swansea City, so I can understand why Watford are looking at signing him.

At the age of 26, he’s still got a lot to give, and will be eager to get his career back on the right path after it somewhat stalled with Fulham.

If he can get back to his best relatively quickly with Watford, then this could prove to be one of the signings of the season.

George Dagless

I think it could be a good signing.

First of all, I think we’ll perhaps see him struggling to get into the Fulham side for next season if he stayed. He didn’t really get into it in the Championship, especially once Michael Hector arrived, and so at a higher level that becomes even tougher.

He is, though, still a good player with a lot to offer and if he could find a bit of confidence and form I am sure we’d see him excel for Watford.

They’ll be needing new signings in the coming weeks and I think Mawson could end up being a good arrival eager to prove a point.
