Report: Fulham can sign ex-Real Madrid man for £8m, he earns £150k a week

Fulham can sign Paris Saint-Germain's France international goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for a bargain £8 million this summer, according to L'Equipe.

While the newly promoted Cottagers were never likely to repeat that disastrous summer splurge of 2018, when they wasted more than £100 million on the likes of Jean Michael Seri and Andre-Franck Zambo Anguissa, it's fair to say Scott Parker and co were expecting a bit more action in this transfer window.

The only new faces so far are Mario Lemina and Antonee Robinson, the former joining on loan and the latter from crisis-club Wigan for just £1.5 million.

Matia Perin, Callum Wilson, Ollie Watkins, Ben Gibson and Grady Diangana have all slipped through the net too.

However, a deal to sign a three-time Ligue 1 winner who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid would represent a sizeable step in the right direction.

After Sky claimed Fulham had entered talks with PSG, L'Equipe reports the Champions League runners-up are willing to sell academy graduate Areola for a bargain £8 million.

The 27-year-old has fallen behind Keylor Navas in Thomas Tuchel's pecking order, while Sergio Rico signed a permanent deal at the weekend.

It remains to be seen whether Fulham can afford to pay Areola's £150,000-a-week wages – or whether he would be keen to join a team that faces a relegation battle.

Rennes are also interested and the Brittany-based outfit will be playing Champions League football next season.

Interestingly, however, Areola recently purchased a house in London.
