A run of very winnable games between now and then, if we are bottom 3 by 31 October we are in a lot of trouble,  of course, not likely to go on a run to make top 4 but we could be comfortably mid table.

For me, 31 October is when Tony/Shad need to make their first big call of the season, stick or twist with Scott.

However, before then, I hope they give him the tools to not have to do this job with his hands tied behind his back which is the position he is in without having the CB's needed.

In Sept 2001, we lost 3 1 at home to Arsenal and after 9 games we had 7 points. We finished the season in 13th position and went on to stay in the Premier League for 12 more seasons.  Let's not get too gloomy after one game**.  COYW!  049:gif

in 2001 we had good players, we just don't have the quality like steed boa goma finan Clark and  Saha In this squad.

Agreed and in 2001 the league was nowhere near as strong. The race for CL spots this year is maybe the tightest ever - Chelsea have spent huge money on some of the highest rated players in Europe, Arsenal, Utd, Spurs, all going for two spots (if we're assuming Liverpool and City will be the tops two). Speaking of which, they are two of the top three clubs in Europe themselves. Then you have the likes of Leicester and Everton with big money players, the fighting dogs of Burnley et all who are well used to scrapping to stay up. There are no easy points in the league at all, and we simply can't leave it to come back or expect to come back like in 2001. There just isn't the games. Lose against Leeds and Villa in the next couple of weeks and I'd say we were as good as down before we've even got started.

That's how serious the situation is.

Wasn't overly concerned about the Arsenal result, had hoped the lads would put up a good fight.  Was much more concerned about the games following Arsenal.  True, not a good result today, but I didn't think it was a disastrous outing.

That said, is this squad ready to compete during this stretch of point gathering opportunity?  Our lack of another quality CB and another back were glaring today as the first two goals conceded were terrible.  If FFC can't capture a reasonable number of points over the next 6-7 games, this season will be a mighty struggle.  Need to start showing results starting with next game v Leeds.

If we can get 1 point against the top 6 it'll be an improvement on last time at least
