Fulham-Bound Winger Lookman Left Out Of RB Leipzig Squad To Face Bayer

Premier League new boys Fulham are close to completing the signing of Ademola Lookman.

German newspaper Bild has reported that the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup winner will be loaned out to the Cottagers for the remainder of the 2020-2021 campaign, with RB Leipzig set to pocket two million euros as loan fee.

Lookman has seen his playing opportunities limited ever since he returned for a second spell at RB Leipzig in the summer of 2019, making a paltry two starts from a possible 47 across all competitions last term.

A year ago, RB Leipzig paid eighteen million euros to sign Lookman permanently on the back of a successful loan spell in the second half of the 2017-18 season.

With his move to Fulham imminent, manager Julian Nagelsmann has left the Anglo-Nigerian out of the matchday squad to face Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday afternoon.

Lookman, who is scheduled to undergo a medical with Fulham in the coming days, has a contract with RB Leipzig until June 2024.

Fulham signed Ola Aina on a season-long loan deal from Torino this month but the Super Eagles has yet to make his competitive debut for the London club.

Aston Villa handed double injury boost for Fulham, Bjorn Engels back training

Aston Villa injury news - The latest on Villa's injured stars as Dean Smith's side prepare for Carabao Cup action on Thursday

Aston Villa are training at Bodymoor Heath this morning as they prepare to face off with Fulham on Monday evening.

Dean Smith's side are fresh from two victories within four days following wins against Sheffield United and Bristol City in Premier League and Carabao Cup respectively.

Bertrand Traore lit up Ashton Gate on Thursday and is in line to make his Premier League debut for Villa at Craven Cottage on Monday - that's despite taking a painful whack in midweek.

Elsewhere, Ezri Konsa was a bit of a concern against Sheffield United as he stepped back out for the second half clutching his gluteus (bum muscle).

Ahead of Premier League game No.2 for Villa, here's a round-up of the injury issues and what's been said:

Ezri Konsa
Target return date: He'll be fine for Fulham on Monday (September 28). Konsa's back now after feeling a twinge during the 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

What's Dean Smith said: "Ezri's wasn't a hamstring. He had a strain in his glutes which he's had treatment on over the last few days and he's back training today."

Bertrand Traore
Injury: Ankle

Target return date: Fulham on Monday (September 28). Pushing for a start but might be on the bench after his 70-minute debut at Bristol.

What's Dean Smith said: "Bert's fine. He picked up a whack to the ankle but he's training today. It's not too early [for his first league start], he's trained really well, he looks fit and he certainly made a good start."

Bjorn Engels
Injury: Thigh strain.

Target return date: First day back at training today (September 26). Could be in line to play against Stoke on Thursday (October 1).

What's Dean Smith said: "Bjorn's back. He's got his first day on the grass with us today."

Wesley
Injury:Knee ligament damage sustained in the 2-1 victory at Burnley on Janaury 1, 2020.

Target return date: January 2021. Wesley returned from Brazil last week to continue rehabilitation back at Bodymoor Heath.

What's he said: "I didn't even want to know the severity (of the injury). I was having a good time, scoring goals, I didn't want to know at that time.

"The doctor explained to me that I broke my ligaments. I kept crying every day, worried, I would even play ball again. But my family supported me."

What's Dean Smith said: "He is back now with us but is not back training in any shape or form. The swelling has gone down on his knee now but it was quite a bad injury he suffered.

"We believed it was going to be a 12-month injury and nothing has told us otherwise yet. He is getting full range into it and hopefully he will be back as soon as possible."

Tom Heaton
Injury: Knee ligament damage sustained in the 2-1 victory at Burnley on Janaury 1, 2020.

Target return date: Leicester City (a) on Saturday, October 17.

What's he said: "It's a difficult one to pinpoint. I think the start of the season, unfortunately, has come too soon. When lockdown happened I earmarked it as a possibility.

"It's landed a little fortunately with the fixtures, not playing the first week (due to Man City postponement). We've only got three league games up until the international break. At the minute I've got my eye set on that, whether the medics agree I'm not so sure.

Everton and Fulham looking to sign Jean-Clair Todibo

Everton and Fulham are thought to be interested in signing the Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo.

The 20-year-old centre back was on loan at Schalke last season and he was quite impressive in the German League.

There is no doubt that Todibo has the talent to make the step up to the Premier League. It will be interesting to see where he ends up this summer.

Everton are easily the more attractive option for the player and a world-class manager like Carlo Ancelotti could help the Frenchman develop.

However, Fulham might be able to offer him more game time as compared to the Toffees. Everton already have Keane and Mina as their starting centre backs.

The 20-year-old must look to join a club where he can play regular first-team football and it will be interesting to see if Everton can provide him with such assurances.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton have offered to sign the player on loan with an option to buy.

Meanwhile, Fulham are looking to sign the player permanently this summer and Barcelona a likely to favour the London club's approach.

Barcelona need the money to sign Eric Garcia from Manchester City and Everton will have to be the asking price for Todibo if they want to sign him this summer.

Fulham to sign Ademola Lookman on loan from RB Leipzig

According to German outlet Bild, Fulham are set to land the signature of Ademola Lookman on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig.

The Cottagers have signed five new players this summer in the form of Alphonse Areola, Antonee Robinson, Ola Aina, Mario Lemina and Kenny Tete.

However, none of them are offensive signings and they are likely to bolster the attack before the transfer deadline next month.

As per Bild, the Cottagers have reached an agreement with Leipzig over a loan deal for Lookman, who was previously in the ranks of Everton.

Lookman returned to Leipzig permanently last summer after previously impressing for them on loan in 2018, where he bagged five goals and four assists from 11 league outings.

The 22-year-old has since struggled to establish himself, having failed to make any contribution in 13 appearances and he now appears on the cusp of returning to England.

Scott Parker's side have made a disappointing return to the top-flight with back-to-back losses and they definitely need more firepower in the attack.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has continued his good form from the promotion-winning season with a couple of goals already, but the club still need more creative players in the squad.

Lookman has not made much of an impact in the Premier League judging by his time at Everton and it remains to be seen whether he can make the most of his loan stint at Craven Cottage.

Fulham will reportedly pay £1.83m (€2m) to sign Lookman on loan.

Everton flagging, as Fulham threaten to snatch deal for Tomori alternative

Everton are set to re-open talks with Barcelona to sign central defender Jean-Clair Todibo after hopes of landing Chelsea's Fikayo Tomori faded, according to a report.

Carlo Ancelotti was hopeful of bringing Tomori to Goodison to continue his Everton revolution. But Chelsea are now reluctant to do a deal with fellow defender Antonio Rudiger now looking to move.

Rudiger's departure would reduce Frank Lampard's options at the back so Chelsea are understandably reticent about letting Tomori depart as well.

It means Everton are now focusing again on Todibo.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano suggests the Toffees have offered a loan deal with an option to buy later at €18m.

However, Barca are keen to raise funds immediately. They want to sell Todibo on a permanent deal so they can move to sign Eric Garcia from Manchester City.

Garcia was previously on Barcelona's books. He told Pep Guardiola some time ago that he wouldn't be signing beyond his current deal which expires at the end of this season. And that means City may want to cash in now.

Everton have tracked Todibo for some time. The player is a Toulouse academy graduate and France youth international. He moved to Barca on a free in July 2019 but was loaned to German Bundesliga side Schalke in January.

He played eight times for the club but did enough to be voted by fans as their March Player of the Month.

Todibo has made just four appearances for Barca.

Fulham also interested in Todibo
However, Everton appear to have a rival bidder for the services of Todibo.

Romano also reports on Twitter that Fulham have entered the race to sign the 20-year-old.

The Cottagers have conceded seven goals in their opening two Premier League games. What's more, they are already in the bottom three after losing both matches.

Boss Scott Parker wants to strengthen before the October 5 transfer deadline and it is believed they are in talks to land the Frenchman.

If Fulham can put up the money now, they could be favourites.

Ademola Lookman: Fulham in advanced talks over taking RB Leipzig player on loan
Watch Fulham vs Aston Villa on Monday. Coverage begins on Sky Sports Premier League and Main Event at 5pm; kick-off 5:45pm

Ademola Lookman joined RB Leipzig from Everton on a permanent deal having impressed on loan

Fulham are in advanced talks with RB Leipzig over the loan signing of Ademola Lookman.

The 22-year-old was left out of Leipzig's squad for their Bundesliga game at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

The German club said he was not selected "due to ongoing transfer discussions".

Lookman left Everton for Leipzig in a £22.5m deal last summer having previously impressed on loan but has struggled to make an impact for them since making the move permanent.

He failed to score in 13 appearances in all competitions for them last season and has not featured in any of Leipzig's three league and cup matches in the 2020/21 campaign.

Sky Sports News previously reported that Fulham are in talks to bring Lookman back to the Premier League on a season-long loan.

Fulham have lost their opening two matches on their return to the Premier League but will look to pick up points when they take on Aston Villa at Craven Cottage on Monday - live on Sky Sports.

Scott Parker's side have progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, however, where they will face west London rivals Brentford at the Community Stadium on Thursday - also live on Sky Sports.

Fulham taking a chance on this 22-year-old English starlet would be a worthy move if it works

Why Fulham should push hard to sign Ademola Lookman on loan
According to Sky Sports, Ademola Lookman could be heading back to the Premier League as Fulham are in discussions with RB Leipzig. A loan deal is being talked about as Fulham look to bolster their squad for the 2020/21 season.

Profile
Ademola Lookman is a 22-year-old English forward who plays for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. He started his youth career at Waterloo FC in 2008 before moving to Charlton Athletic in 2014.

After a year with the U-18's, he was promoted to the senior side. He went on to make close to 50 appearances for the club. Everton secured his services in January 2017. (h/t Transfermarkt)

However after just a year, he was loaned to RB Leipzig. He was brought back after the six month loan deal and went on to feature for Everton the following season. In total, he has 48 appearances for Everton. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Leipzig finally signed him on a permanent basis last summer. Across his two stints with the club, he has featured 24 times, scoring 5 goals and providing 4 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Lookman has 31 youth caps to his name for the England side. He is yet to debut for the senior team.

Would Fulham benefit from this?
After gaining promotion twice in three years, Fulham would want to avoid the drop again. They have done some good business this season and Ademola Lookman can be another bit of that if a deal goes through.

Capable of playing anywhere across the front line, Lookman would add depth and versatility to the squad. His numbers may not be glittering but he definitely has the potential to be a good winger and has experience in the Premier League as well.

Verdict
At just 22 years of age, Fulham would get a prospective player who can blossom into a fine forward under the right guidance. He has been relatively injury-free throughout his career and it was only certain blips in form that resulted in less game time over the last couple of seasons.

Leipzig have a good number of established wide players like Emil Forsberg, Marcel Sabitzer, etc and that has also contributed to Lookman being overlooked.

Fulham would surely benefit from a player like Lookman. He is young, versatile and has good potential. Add to that he has Premier League experience. That is something Fulham will surely need if they are to avoid relegation this season.

Mitrovic to silence Premier League doubters

Aleksandar Mitrovic is 'easily' good enough to score goals at the highest level believes Fulham boss Scott Parker with the former Newcastle star scoring twice last week

Scott Parker claims Fulham hotshot Aleksandar Mitrovic is still way off fulfilling his immense potential.

In a clear warning to the rest of the Premier League, the Craven Cottage boss is convinced his already-prolific Serbian striker will only get better now he is back among the elite.

Two seasons ago, Mitrovic notched 11 goals in the top flight but was unable to save the Londoners from crashing straight back into the Championship.

But after the ex-Newcastle man, 26 earlier this month, opened his 2020-21 account with a double in last weekend's 4-3 loss at Leeds, Parker is backing him to grab considerably more this time round.

Ahead of tomorrow's home clash with Aston Villa, the Fulham chief declared: "As a player and person, there's still so much growth in there for someone so young - even if people don't see him like that.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has thrived since joining Fulham from Newcastle (Image: Getty Images)

"When he's as good as he is now, it's scary how much improvement I can still see in him - where he can get to and how much better he can be.

"I'm looking forward to seeing what he's got this year. It's a big challenge - he puts that on himself really - but I have no doubt he'll do well."

Despite Mitrovic blitzing 51 goals in 96 league games for Fulham to date - and a stunning 37 in 53 appearances for Serbia - doubts persist that he can produce those sort of figures in the top flight.

All of which provides major motivation for the £22million ex-Partisan marksman, according to Parker.

"Mitro will be the first to say this year will be a big test for him," said the former England and West Ham midfielder.

"He's scored goals in the Championship and for Serbia - everyone knows that. The next stage is the Premier League.

"There's big pressure on him to score goals in this league. But he's someone who can easily do that in this division."

With club captain Tom Cairney dropped for the trip to Elland Road, Parker handed Mitrovic the armband - further testament to the forward's unwavering commitment to the cause.

Parker explained: "He's somebody who works at his craft. He's a great boy. He wants to be involved all the time in everything.

"He's a real driver and is going to be so important for us this year. Vitally, vitally important. He knows that, we know that.

"But we need to give help along the way - with others chipping in from other areas."

'I won't be negative, but we have to be realistic': Scott Parker tells Danny Murphy how he plans to keep Fulham up after difficult start to life back in the Premier League

Fulham have lost their opening two matches of the season vs Arsenal and Leeds
Scott Parker's side are gearing up to face Aston Villa at home on Monday
Parker has called on his players to have the 'right mindset' for the tasks ahead

Scott Parker's first England cap against Denmark in 2003 happened to be my last. I remember us training in keep-ball boxes. Whereas I'd had a panic the first time I joined Rio and Becks in the circle, Scotty was comfortable right away: crisp passing, bam-bam-bam.

He was a tough competitor. We often came across each other in midfield, and there are strong parallels in our careers too.

Besides the England overlap and playing for Charlton and Tottenham, we share a close connection with Fulham.

Danny Murphy caught up with Scott Parker over video about his task in hand with Fulham

Parker told Murphy that Fulham have to be realistic this season in the Premier League

I played at Craven Cottage towards the end of my career and reached a European final under Roy Hodgson. Scotty has gone a step further, hanging up his boots there and then becoming manager.

After promotion to the Premier League in his first full season, he's now tasked with trying to stay there. So far, they've been beaten by Arsenal and Leeds at Elland Road, with Aston Villa at home up next on Monday evening.

It wasn't any surprise when Scotty came up on the video link that he looked as dapper in a light blue shirt and grey jacket as we see him in post-match interviews.

'I suppose I'm aware of how I should represent Fulham,' he said with a smile. 'I remember Louis van Gaal wearing a tie for every press conference. It must have left an impression because I like to look smart even if I get a bit of stick.'

He shouldn't worry. Scotty's sartorial elegance is beyond reproach and he assured me he won't be rocking a Pep bodywarmer any time soon.

Of course, he's in a serious business: Fulham have been promoted and relegated four times in recent years and keeping them up, providing stability, isn't going to be easy given the strength of competition.

To add to the difficulty, they only had five weeks between winning their play-off final against Brentford and kicking off again against Arsenal.

'I had to give the players a break to mentally refresh after a long season, but it was only two weeks,' said Scott.

'Physically, it's not been too bad, but having only three weeks of pre-season is a challenge to incorporate new signings and those who have come back from loan.

Parker's Fulham side have lost their opening two matches of the Premier League campaign

'The main thing for us this season is to have the right mindset, understanding what the Premier League is all about.

'The expectation in the Championship last season was to win. We needed that bit of arrogance. It was the best way to achieve promotion.

'Now we need a sense of realism. I'm not going to be negative and say it's fine to lose three or four on the bounce, of course not, but if it happens, we have to cope with it. I've been involved in relegated teams and they are the ones where a few defeats cripple you and you allow it to become a spiral.

'Win one game every three and you stay up. So if we lose a couple, we know that winning the next one means we are back on the horse.

'Last season was different. Three defeats in a row and it was crisis. Aleksandar Mitrovic, the other players, they'd be having meetings to find out what was happening.'

I was critical of Fulham's recruitment when last promoted two years ago. They spent good money on players with no Premier League experience and paid the price.

Parker says his team have to be wary not to allow heads to drop after a difficult start to season

Scott still needs more signings in this window, but as a former player who wants the club to do well, I'm cheered by Fulham snapping up Mario Lemina on loan from Southampton.

'I'm sure you're like me, Danny, when you see a midfielder, you can spot within two or three actions, "Yeah, he's a good player",' said Scott.

'You see certain things and I got that with Mario after I'd watched him. I think he realises he's the type who needs to be at 100 per cent to be really on his game. If he's fit, sharp and in a good place, he'll be vital for us. It's a big year for him.

'We can only bring in players who understand what they are going to face — and are equipped for it.

'Of course, we'd all love that big star who has just shone in the Champions League, but it won't work if they are too advanced of Fulham.

'Some Premier League teams will be better than us technically, so we must make it up in other areas: preparation, tactics, mentality, work ethic.

Parker stands out due to his keen sense of style and is looking to bring stability back to Fulham

'There is a process at Fulham how they sign players. The owner is the owner, but I do have a say and will give my opinion.'

Fulham tried to take the game to Arsenal on the opening day and paid the price by losing 3-0. At Leeds, they came back from 4-1 down to narrowly lose 4-3, but I still thought they were a little gung-ho.

It's all about getting the balance right. Mikel Arteta didn't apologise for parking up for long periods against Manchester City in last season's FA Cup semi-final, and neither should he because Arsenal won.

'You can always point to technical flaws when you concede, but sometimes it is about having a bit of nous,' said Scott, whose own playing career also took him to Chelsea and Newcastle.

'If someone a lot quicker than me was running past, I might have pulled his shirt. I sometimes worry my team now are a bit naive. We were against Leeds, conceding two goals from set-plays when we needed to be switched on.' It's a shame fans won't be at the Cottage on Moday night. Newly promoted clubs get a boost from the atmosphere that crowds create.

'The empty stadiums probably have had an influence,' added Scott. 'It's one of the reasons we've seen a lot of goals go in. You know what it's like being on the pitch, in the arena, it can blur you. It worked in our favour at Leeds Their fans would have been pumped at 4-1 and they might have gone for six or seven.

Parker will be counting on Mitrovic to provide the goods for Fulham in the Premier League

'We'll lose that advantage against Villa but we are all having to deal with it. I think Villa have recruited well: Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins. I know Watkins from the Championship and like him. He's meant to be a diamond of a kid as well.'

I was lucky to captain a very good Fulham side who reached a European final under Roy Hodgson. We had a core of good professionals like Mark Schwarzer, Paul Konchesky, Damien Duff.

It'll take Scotty time to build that. Like me, he's a believer in youth and gave Harvey Elliott his Premier League debut at 16, but throwing academy players into the Premier League is a lot harder.

I can see he shares the affinity I have with Fulham, the family feel, the beautiful cottage by the Thames. But he's also cold-eyed enough to want to import some of the standards he's picked up at bigger clubs.

'In your Fulham team, the players were the drivers to success,' he said. 'It was the same at Sheffield United last season.

'I'm enjoying the job massively and, like you, love a lot of things about Fulham. But I still see there have to be improvements. My experiences and knowledge tell me there is a long way to go.'

Report: Fulham close in on deal for Ademola Lookman who missed weekend clash

According to Kicker, Fulham are on the verge of securing a loan deal for RB Leipzig winger Ademola Lookman with the player in advanced talks with the London club.

The former Everton man has struggled to get going at Leipzig.

Lookman once looked like a potential superstar in the making during his early days at Everton, helping the Toffees defeat Manchester City 4-0 in 2017.

But since then the 22-year-old has had one setback after another.

Lookman is in need of a fresh start, and Fulham are seemingly willing to provide him with a route back to the Premier League as they eye a loan deal.

Sky Sports claim the Whites are in advanced talks to sign him.

And the latest from German editorial Kicker say a loan deal is on the verge of completion as Lookman was absent of Leipzig's clash at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Fulham are in need of extra creativity as they plot their Premier League survival.

Scott Parker's side were toothless in their opening day 3-0 defeat at home to Arsenal, before losing their subsequent encounter at Leeds United 4-3.

After leaving Merseyside in a £22.5 million deal, Lookman has played just 300 minutes of league football; starting just once under Julian Nagelsmann at Leipzig.

The former Charlton Athletic man has something to prove, and Fulham could be the ideal destination with the winger likely to get plenty of opportunities to shine.

Scott Parker hoping for big season from 'vitally important' Aleksandar Mitrovic

Fulham manager Scott Parker believes Aleksandar Mitrovic will be "vitally important" for the club this season and insists there is more to come from the Serbia striker.

Mitrovic netted his 50th goal for the club in the Carabao Cup victory over Ipswich on September 16 in what was his 102nd appearance since joining from Newcastle – initially on loan – in January 2018.

The 26-year-old was also the Championship's Golden Boot winner last season with 26 goals and played a crucial role in Fulham's promotion campaign.

When asked about what Mitrovic brings to the side, Parker said: "I think as a player and as a person there's still so much growth there and in someone still so young.

"I think it's probably scary to think that there is still – I see so much more improvement and where he can get to and how much better he can be, as good as he is."

Fulham struggled the last time they were in the Premier League, in 2018-19, and Mitrovic netted just 11 goals, however the manager expects him to perform better this season.

""I think Mitro will be the first to say it, it's a big test for him this year, and a big challenge," he said.

"He's scored goals in the Championship and I think everyone knows that he can do that, and the next stage is now the Premier League. Last time he was here he scored goals, internationally he's scored some. But there will be a big pressure on himself this year to try and score goals in this league and certainly I feel that he's someone who can do that in this division.

"Great great boy who wants to be involved all the time in things and a real driver for that. He's going to be vitally important for us this year, vitally vitally important and he knows that and we all know that.

"So we need to give him some help along the way and with like I say chipping in from other areas of the pitch, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he's got this year, he's got a big challenge in front of him and he puts that upon himself. So I have no doubt he'll do well."
