Hopefully it's really not the end of his career, that'd be sad.

He literally is at a point where he may not be able to play no more?

Mawson has had another knee op and there is no timescale as to when and if he will return.

How did he pass our original medical. I imagine we will have insurance on him if he is forced to retire.

He was injured when we signed him, I think it was a 'common injury', TK looked past that and concentrated on age, stats, season with Swansea etc. Steadman chappy is the expert on 'knee injuries', he operated on Bullard, who played again.

The post op rehab is the crucial part of recovery and it is tough on the player (as the excellent Marlon Fossey offal video showed) and is where recovery can be assessed.  As before I really wish Alfie Mawson the very best outcome no matter how long it takes.

Posted something on similar lines before. His original injury was sustained during Swansea's run in. The specialists gave him the all clear to finish the season on the understanding he'd need an op as soon as the season finished
The injury was pretty routine although as someone on here with far greater medical knowledge than me pointed out, knee surgery is never that simple
To be fair to Tony Khan, & I'm no fan the medical people at Fulham & specialists gave him the nod, he was well down the line with his recovery when we signed him & no problems were predicted
The player felt he wasn't 100% when he returned to playing, he was in discomfort & playing in pain. The specialists insisted there was no problem but we know what happened
Bootgate was something put out by Ranieri which was bollocks & did Mawson no favours whatsoever. Something went in his knee a few minutes before half time, In the break he tried taking his boot off to put pressure on his foot & in doing so his knee went. So not quite getting injured putting his boots on which did the rounds.
He was playing really well for Bristol City & felt he was as fit as he's ever been. Unfortunately his knee went again, it completely locked ,he's going to have to have all his cartilage out. Its pretty much what Paul McGrath & Ledley King had  He's been told his going to have issues when he finishes playing but he'll be able to recover & play on
He's also been told he might "only" be out for 6-8 weeks so we'll see what happens. He's absolutely gutted about how it all turned out, he was desperate to do well for us but he's had zero luck. Hopefully this latest op gives him the chance to crack on

Dodgin

Good luck to him and a return to first team football

Nice post, my only worry is how his knee will react to it. Hopefully only 6-8 weeks but I'd imagine it will be longer just purely due to the trauma in his knees

DanVerSar

The Bristol City Press Officer said that "It's a knee injury but not a knee ligament injury."

He has returned to Fulham for treatment/rehab and is hoping to back to Bristol City. Very vague on timescales though. Hopefully it is just 6-8 weeks as mentioned in some posts above.

I hope he gets through this. All the best Alfie!

Feel so sorry for him - hope you recover quickly Alfie and get back the form you showed at Swansea
