Fulham missed out on not signing Divock Origi from Liverpool in the summer

With Scott Parker's side having scored just seven goals in their first eight Premier League fixtures, it seems as if the Cottagers may well be regretting not adding to their striker options in the summer transfer window, with them missing out on Liverpool striker Divock Origi.

Scott Parker's side failed to bring in a single striker during the recent transfer window, with Transfermarkt suggesting that they have just Aleksandar Mitrovic and 17-year-old Jay Stansfield as natural centre-forwards in their squad.

The West London club were linked with a move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi by The Mirror, alongside the likes of Leeds, Aston Villa, Brighton and Newcastle but he ended up staying with the Merseyside club.

The Belgian forward will no doubt long be revered by Liverpool fans for his goal in their Champions League final win against Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 but with the recent arrival of Diogo Jota, it seems unlikely that he will ever be able to nail down a starting spot in Jurgen Klopp's side.

The Belgian international hasn't made a single appearance in the Premier League so far this season and has played just once in the Champions League, where he failed to have much impact in the Reds' win against FC Midtjylland (per WhoScored).

Following the Champions League final, Alan Shearer was full of praise for the striker, saying:

"Origi produced an outstanding finish once again. I was at the semi-final against Barcelona at Anfield and he was immense. To produce another incredible finish in the final is massive credit to his drive and belief.

"When he was away on loan he couldn't even get any game time — and he has it tough in this Liverpool team as that front three are impossible to budge.

"But what a two months it has been for him. He has written himself into the history books at Liverpool Football Club." (per The Sun)

The former Lille man arrived at the Anfield outfit in the summer of 2014 and in his six years with the club, he has gone on to make 143 appearances, contributing 35 goals and 13 assists (per Transfermarkt).

Considering he is valued at £14.4 million and has 19 goals in the Premier League in his career, you can definitely argue that he would have been a sensible, affordable option for the Cottagers in the summer market.

However, a deal could not be done and now Parker's side look painfully thin in the attacking department, with their reliance on Mitrovic to score goals in the top-flight not paying off so far, considering the Serbian has just two goals to his name this season, both of which came in the 4-3 defeat against Leeds United (per WhoScored).

Therefore, if the 25-year-old becomes available again in the January transfer window, we feel that the Cottagers should do everything they can to bring him to Craven Cottage.

'Beyond question' - Nottingham Forest fans have their say on Anthony Knockaert's future

The French winger is on loan from Fulham until January

Anthony Knockaert has made five appearances for Nottingham Forest since joining on loan from Fulham.

Heralded as a massive coup when he joined, the 29-year-old has yet to produce his best form consistently despite a promising debut against Derby County.

With his loan set to expire in January, Forest fans have been debating whether they would like to see his stay extended on our Facebook page.

John Bouri: His quality historically is beyond question at this level. However coming to a below par performing team so short on confidence is not so easy for any player. Put him in a high pressing attack minded team and he'll be the best of his type in this league and an asset

Matthew Hopkins: He probably needs some time. He hasn't been playing all that much previously. He's undeniably quality but not shown it yet. He will come good.

Jon Macaulay : Trying too hard, showed glimpses in last two games, needs game time.... defo keep

Justin Hayes: Needs a few games to get an understanding of the players around him....runs they/he makes etc. I'd like to see him stay for the season but that's it as he's out of our price bracket long term. If we go up, we need better, if we don't he's expensive & would upset our ffp imo

Neil Saunders : Agree with what people saying so far not really hit the form he can play at but what I will say watching the games the quality he puts in to the box off set pieces etc we've not had since reidy in my opinion

Ian Tyler: I would extend. The talent has been proven and takes 2 players out as there is a need to double up on him. Creates room naturally. It's not always when you have the ball you have to look what's happening off the ball too.

Jon Hobley : He's obviously a good player and we have seen glimpses but he will gel and I think, he'll be a regular starter that'll make a difference.

Javier Alejandro : He's been good. I don't get why people say he's been poor. I see him as a solid player.

David Weston: Think we should keep him, we haven't been playing well as a team so far, & I think he can definitely be a difference maker

Debra Smith : Not sure we have seen the best of him yet. If he can produce his best then it is worth keeping him but he hasn't convinced me just yet.

OPINION: Derby County should consider two-time Championship promotion winner

Derby County are in the hunt for a new manager to replace Phillip Cocu, who was sacked last night after a poor start to the season.

Wayne Rooney has emerged as the early frontrunner for the vacant position as he looks to kick-start his managerial career. The72 have picked out five early candidates for the job.

One name they should consider is two-time Championship promotion winner Slavisa Jokanovic.

The Serbian boss is currently managing in Qatar at Al-Gharafa, but could Derby try and tempt him back to England?

Jokanovic, who is 52 years old, first came to the second tier with Watford during the 2014/15 season and got them automatic promotion before leaving at the end of that campaign. He then took charge of Fulham in December 2015 and guided the London club to the top flight via the Play-Offs in his first full season in charge.

The Cottagers opted to sack in November 2018 after a slow start to life in the Premier League.

Jokanovic then moved to Qatar in July last year and has since won 51% of games there.

Before his move to England, the ex-Chelsea midfielder also had spells as a manager at Partizan, Muangthong United, Levski Sofia and Hercules.

Derby need a change of direction after Cocu's tenure and Jokanovic is someone who is experienced in the Championship. However, most signs to the Rams turning to Rooney, in what would be a similar appointment to that of Frank Lampard a couple of summers ago.

Everton: Toffees fighting Fulham to sign Gleison Bremer in January

Everton are reportedly fighting Fulham to sign Gleison Bremer in the January transfer window, according to Tuttosport (via Football Italia).

As per the news outlet, the 23 year-old is apparently open to a move to the Goodison Park faithful to play under Carlo Ancelotti, although Torino are planning to offer him a new deal.

The Italian boss is also reportedly a big admirer of Bremer, and so a battle may well commence between him and Scott Parker to try and sign him once the window opens in January.

Bremer has been a rock this season

Indeed, Bremer has been a beast so far in the 2020/21 term for Torino, as he has won a quite impressive 3.5 duels a game in the Serie A, as well as averaging 5.2 clearances and 2.2 interceptions per match (Sofascore).

However, there may be a question mark as to whether the Merseyside club need to sign another central defender, given that they already have the likes of Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina already on their books at the moment.

Bremer may be a good squad player to have

Nonetheless, Bremer may be a good squad player to have around for the Toffees in case one or more of the centre-backs mentioned above were to get themselves injured for a sustained period of time.

Although he has no experience of playing in the Premier League before, the Serie A is still of a high quality, and with his 6 foot 2 frame, he should have the physical capacity to cope in the top flight.
