How Fulham plan to admit 2,000 fans to Liverpool game

Fulham intend to admit fans for the visit of Liverpool to Craven Cottage on December 12 – and this is how they're planning to do it.

How will lucky fans be chosen?

They will be 2019-20 season ticket holders whose names will be entered into an electronic draw – a bit like Premium Bonds – and then issued with a 'digital match ticket' for use on their smartphone.

Why last season's ticket holders and not this?

Because the club didn't issue any 2020-21 season tickets, well aware they might be handing revenue back in considerable lumps of money – as other clubs are finding out.

Will fans attending the Liverpool match be excluded from the next home game so others can have a turn?

In a word: unlikely.

The club want the draw to be totally random.

So, in the same way a lottery winner could enter the following week after their jackpot success, so can all season-ticket holders, regardless of whether they get two tickets in a row.

What about socially distancing measures?

Only two stands will be open: the Putney and Hammersmith Ends at either end of the ground.

Given the capacity is upwards of 5,000 fans each, a thousand in each means one person to every five seats, unless members of the same family win tickets. They will be allowed to sit together.

All spectators will have their temperature checked on entry.

What are the arrangements for getting in and out of Craven Cottage?

There are likely to be instructions that go with the digital ticket about staggered arrival.

But the club admits they've yet to work out the fine detail on leaving the ground at the end of the game.

Chances of a burger and a Bovril?

Surprisingly, the club is planning to open concession stands.

The logic is that takeaways stayed open throughout the pandemic, and Fulham are working ways to make sure those missing a Cottage pie can once again dig in.

Chelsea Product Aina Gives Three Reasons He Could Not Turn Down Fulham

Chelsea Academy product Ola Aina has given three reasons he could not turn down a move to Craven Cottage in the summer transfer window.

The Nigeria international arrived at Fulham on loan from Italian club Torino with an option to buy him permanently at the end of the season included in the deal.

Apart from the Fulham training ground being three minutes from his family home, Aina revealed that he opted to return to the Premier League because he is pals with some players in the Fulham squad and the club have a good history.

The 24-year-old banged in his maiden goal in the Premier League as Fulham registered a 2-0 win over West Brom, scoring with a sensational thunderbolt from just outside the box.

Speaking to Fulham Fix : Episode 14, Aina explained : "Yes definitely a straightforward one for me, one it being so close to the area that I basically live in, two obviously I know some of the players here.

"Obviously I know about the manager and his history in football and three, everyone knows about Fulham so it was just an opportunity that I thought I definitely can't turn down and it would help me a lot in developing as a player"

Aina has started the last seven matches contested by Fulham in all competitions ahead of Monday's visit to the King Power Stadium where they face Kelechi Iheanacho's Leicester City in the Premier League.

GW10 Captains: Vardy to thrive against Fulham

The Scout says Leicester star is a prime contender for the armband in his home fixture

A home encounter with Fulham has made Jamie Vardy (£10.2m) the top target among Fantasy Premier League forwards for Gameweek 10.

The Leicester City striker has earned over 165,000 new owners ahead of Friday's 18:30 GMT deadline.

Vardy has produced double-figure hauls in three of his seven starts this season.

The underlying numbers show why. He has been supplied with 13 big chances, more than any other player in Fantasy.

Fulham, meanwhile, have struggled in defence this season.

They have conceded 18 goals, 53 shots on target and 21 big chances. All those totals are among the bottom two sides.

More away joy for Fernandes?

Bruno Fernandes (£10.8m) will also be heavily backed for Manchester United's visit to Southampton.

The Portuguese was the most-selected captain in Gameweek 9 and rewarded his owners with an 11-point return at home against West Bromwich Albion.

He has been a huge success on his travels this term, recording double-figure returns in all three of his away appearances.

Fernandes has produced 14 shots and created 12 chances in the last four Gameweeks. Both those totals are among the top three players in FPL.

Goals at Goodison?

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£7.9m) and Patrick Bamford (£6.1m) provide further options as Everton welcome Leeds United to Goodison Park.

Calvert-Lewin has scored or assisted in eight of the first nine Gameweeks, claiming 13 points against Fulham last weekend.

Bamford, meanwhile, has scored six of his seven goals this season on the road.

The Leeds forward has averaged 9.8 points per away match.

Scott Parker must start Fulham ace Ruben Loftus-Cheek vs Leicester

After an impressive display from the bench in Fulham's 3-2 defeat against Everton last weekend, Scott Parker must trust Chelsea loanee Ruben Loftus-Cheek with a start in the Cottagers' next game against Leicester City.

The West London club travel to the King Power Stadium on Monday in the hope of picking up their first away win of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

Parker's side produced a promising second-half display against the Toffees in their last fixture but despite pushing hard for an equaliser in the late stages of the game, they fell to a 3-2 defeat.

One man who impressed with his display against Carlo Ancelotti's side was Loftus-Cheek, as he came off the bench to score Fulham's second goal, which earned him a 7.71 rating from WhoScored.

The England international was far better than teammate Mario Lemina, with the Gabonese midfielder earning a shocking 6.23 rating for his performance in the same game, so surely Parker won't opt to start the Southampton loanee again on Monday night.

Following the game, the Fulham manager was full of praise for Loftus-Cheek, saying:

"I thought he was brilliant. Ruben came in and we've worked really hard together, in terms of the information I'm trying to give him and how he can have a big impact on the pitch.

"Sometimes I feel as if Ruben has a tendency for games to drift by him, and today was everything that we spoke about with him.

"He came on and made a real difference. He looked every bit of a top, top player.

"He got the ball, was brave, scored a goal, got in the box, and was dynamic in between the lines.

"He's got a real ability and he'll be big for us this year. He needs to keep working on it and keep listening to what we're saying.

"No doubt he'll keep improving like we've seen today." (per West London Sport)

You could also argue that Loftus-Cheek has a lot to prove during his time with Fulham, as he will no doubt be pushing for a spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the Euros next summer, so will be desperate to impress.

The injury-prone 24-year-old must also ensure that he performs with Fulham, otherwise, he may well be axed by Chelsea boss Frank Lampard next summer, considering the number of top-quality players the Blues brought in over the summer.

Therefore, Parker should reward his impressive display against Everton with a start against Leicester City on Monday in the hope that he can inspire the Cottagers to just their second Premier League win of the season.

Fulham defender Tete edging towards return

Fulham have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the clash with Leicester City on Monday night.

Everyone came through unscathed after Sunday's 3-2 home defeat by Everton – and just as good, there's light at the end of the tunnel for Kenny Tete.

The right-back tore a calf just before half-time in the 3-0 home defeat by Aston Villa at the end of September and needed specialist treatment.

However, the player who cost Whites around £2m from Olympique Lyonnais in the transfer window has returned to "modified" training, according to head coach Scott Parker, who hasn't ruled out a return before Christmas.

'He's slowly coming back into training – albeit modified training," Parker explained.

"Kenny's working hard with rehab and he's slowly drip-fed himself up.

"He's on the right path, and yes, it's been too long, but with these sorts of things you need to tread carefully and not take too many risks."

Fulham working on solution to worrying penalty problems
The Cottagers have missed their last three attempts from the spot.

Scott Parker is desperate to find a solution to Fulham's escalating penalty problems.

The Cottagers have missed their last three spot-kicks and Parker admits scoring from 12 yards has become an issue at the club.

Aleksandar Mitrovic began the season as Fulham's designated penalty taker but he skied one which cost them victory at Sheffield United.

Ademola Lookman took over at West Ham but his attempted Panenka went horribly wrong, and then Ivan Cavaleiro slipped as he took one at Everton last weekend.

Those misses potentially cost Fulham five points, which would have taken them well clear of the relegation zone rather than the 18th position they currently occupy.

"At this moment in time it's well-documented that we've had some problems," said Cottagers boss Parker.

"We've missed our last three, culminating in points being dropped. When you look at it there's no denying there's been a bit of an issue here.

"If those penalties had gone in they'd have maybe contributed five points. So certainly there is something here we need to look at and it's something we are doing.

"We are trying to work out what the best processes are, the best penalty takers. It's the same as it would be if you concede a lot from set-plays, or were conceding goals due to a deficiency and working out the best solutions. This is no different.

"Of course there is a psychology behind it, in terms of who feels they are best equipped to take a penalty. And then we work backwards from there."

Fulham's players have plenty of time to hone their technique, as they do not play until Monday evening when they travel to Leicester.

"We are practising them, but we practise most weeks," added Parker.

"Who's going to take the next one? I'm not going to give you a name. It's down to who feels they can step up."

Pre-Leicester Press Conference

Fulham Head Coach Scott Parker addressed a range of topics in Thursday's pre-Leicester City press conference.

Fans potentially returning to matches...

"It's a breath of fresh air. It's what we all want. It's what the fans want, certainly us as a team we want nothing more than for the fans to come back into stadiums, so that news in terms of where we are in London is perfect. Fans are why we play the game, so it's good news and hopefully we're on an upward curve now."

Leicester City...

"They're a very good side. Brendan [Rodgers] has done a fantastic job there. They've got a lot of quality in their ranks and it will be a tough game for us. Another tough game. We understand that, but as always, these are the challenges that we embrace this year. It's a challenge that we look forward to. This is why we worked as hard and as relentlessly as we did last year to get out of the Championship, to play in these sorts of games every week."

How close Fulham are to clicking...

"I feel as a team we're going in the right direction. It's the fine margins, it's the nous sometimes in this league. You can't afford to lose a minute of concentration in this division. You can't afford to be the wrong side of someone or to make individual errors, because you get punished. At times this year we've fallen short on that in terms of understanding. But in saying that, I think anyone who watches us play who has half a clue on football, will see where some of our deficiencies are, but will see clearly where we are as a team, what we're doing, and how good we are at times. That takes courage with the way we play, and we've caused many teams a lot of problems. I feel we're definitely on the right track."

Penalties...

"We're practising, but we always practise penalties. We'll put a process in place and work out who we think is best equipped to take the penalty. It's down to who feels the most confident, who feels that they can step up, and we'll work from there. That will decided in the weeks and days leading into games. A decision on the penalty taker will never be taken on the spur of the moment."

Kenny Tete...

"Kenny came in, played the first couple of games and got an injury. It was disappointing and when you miss a quality player you want him back as quick as possible. But you have to be careful, be sensible with that decision and not rush. As soon as he's ready and in a fit enough state to come and add his quality and help us, that decision will be made. He's just slowly coming back into training with us now, albeit modified training. He's been working hard with the rehab department, he's on the right track now and I can't see it being too long."

Premier League predictions: Lawro v Maximo Park frontman Paul Smith

Tottenham are the Premier League leaders going into Sunday's game against third-placed Chelsea, but which London side will come out on top at Stamford Bridge?

BBC Sport football expert Mark Lawrenson said: "This is a great match-up. Tottenham are very capable of shutting teams out but Chelsea have got a real cutting edge at the moment.

"A lot will hinge on who gets the first goal. I have a feeling it will be Chelsea.

"By the time this game is played, Liverpool could be back on top, and it is possible Spurs, Chelsea or Leicester could be leaders by Monday night.

"I'm really enjoying it being so open. I still think when every team is fully fit and has hit their stride, Liverpool are still the best side but that situation may never happen.

"We could have four or five teams still in the title race in the last couple of months of the season, which would be brilliant - especially if we have got fans back at games by then."

Lawro is making predictions for all 380 Premier League matches this season, against a variety of guests.

This weekend, he is up against Maximo Park frontman Paul Smith, who is a lifelong Middlesbrough fan.

Smith told BBC Sport: "When I was growing up everything was always about the Boro.

"I'm from Billingham, which is a small town nearby, so I didn't have much choice in the matter when I was a kid. Playing football in the yard, everyone would be talking about them.

"It was in the late 1980s when Bruce Rioch was in charge. The club had almost gone bust in 1986 and the gates to our old Ayresome Park ground were padlocked. I remember watching it on the local news, and there was all the uncertainty about whether we would survive.

"We had come through it but we were in a rut in the old Third Division and Rioch had no money to spend. He built his team using a lot of teenagers, so there was a real connection with them, because they were mostly local.

"Things took off and it was a special time. Rioch is well known for instilling discipline, but we had an amazing team spirit. We had some very talented young players too like Gary Pallister, Colin Cooper, Stuart Ripley and Tony Mowbray - aka 'The Redcar Rock' - and of course Bernie Slaven scoring the goals.

"Slaven had written to every Football League club for a trial and we were the only ones to reply. For him to then go on and get the goals to get us up the divisions and into the top flight was just an incredible story.

"He was my hero. When I played as a kid I was usually up front, so I was always Slaven in the playground.

"I kind of ended up on the wing when I was older though because I was pretty fast and loved taking people on, so I guess I turned into Ripley in the end. That's how I saw it anyway."

Local businessman Steve Gibson helped save the club from liquidation and by the mid-1990s he had overseen a brave new era on Teesside, with Bryan Robson in charge and a new home for Boro at Riverside Stadium. They were soon back in the Premier League and making exciting Brazilian signings like Juninho, Emerson and Branco.

"There have been some great players down the years," Smith added. "Like Slaven, Cooper has always been a favourite of mine because he was such a stalwart. Those childhood players stick in your mind because you have their posters on the wall, but I have ended up getting to know him pretty well too.

"But there have been plenty of others, as I've got older, watching people like Alen Boksic. It was open to question whether he was that interested in playing for us but when he did play, wow, his control and movement was just so good.

"Then there was Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Mark Viduka too. I couldn't quite believe his first touch.

"It was a total pleasure watching the players I have just listed when it was going your way, but when it wasn't going your way, there were players who gave it all, all of the time, like your Coopers and even Juninho. He never gave less than 100%. He was always incredible.

"They stand out because they forge a real connection with the club."

LAWRO'S PREDICTION

Leicester City v Fulham (17:30 GMT)

Leicester ended up being well beaten at Anfield last weekend but the chance Harvey Barnes had to equalise for them at 1-0 was massive. If he'd scored then, there might been a bit more doubt in the Liverpool defence.

The Foxes didn't give much service to Jamie Vardy as they chased the game but I don't see this one going the same way.

I know Leicester's home form hasn't been brilliant, but I look at Fulham and they are so open.

Lawro's prediction: 2-0

Paul's prediction: I enjoy watching Leicester and they should be in control of this one because Fulham are so open. 3-1

Fulham's missed penalties costing precious Premier League points, says Scott Parker

A lack of scoring touch from the spot and in open play has hampered Fulham's return to the top flight

Scott Parker is desperate to find a solution to Fulham's escalating penalty problems.

Parker says there is 'understanding and clarity' over who takes Fulham's next penalty

Fulham will stick with the same small group of penalty takers when they face Leicester on Monday – despite the fact Whites have missed three in a row.

Ivan Cavaleiro was the latest culprit when he slipped at the crucial moment from 12 yards against Everton on Sunday.

Before that, Ademola Lookman and Aleksandar Mitrovic missed from the spot – and Scott Parker admits it's cost the club five precious points in their bid to avoid relegation.

However, the head coach has no intention of widening the group, who he insists have been practising hard to make amends.

"The decision on who takes penalties will never be taken on the pitch," he said.

"It's decided in the days leading up to a game. The understanding and clarity leading up to Monday night will be there; and we practice that process; the run-up, or whatever it may be.

"That group of players is the same group is the same as it was at the start of the season, and I'm sure all clubs have them.

"At Manchester United I'm sure there are four likely penalty takers, at Tottenham, whoever it might be, there are players very comfortable taking penalties, like set-plays, and some who are not.

"This is no different and I understand why it's highlighted because we've missed the last three".

Parker's mentioning the run-up is no co-incidence as Cavaleiro's miss was largely attributed to his acute angle of run-up that saw him kick the ball with his right foot against his slipping left and over the bar.

Parker states that the penalty taker will remain from the same group of select players, does that mean Cav., Lockman, Mitro and Cairney.
He also says it will not be a late on field decision so how will the choice be made from those players, difficult to think of any better method than drawing one of the four names from a hat.

by not giving you one? if you've not got a smart phone you can't use the track & trace app so that could/will be used as a reason?
